Miller, Myron J.

Myron J. Miller’s Funeral To Be Held Wednesday 
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Howe mortuary for Myron Jay Miller, widely known Boulder county resident, who died
Monday, Nov. 4, at the sanitarium from injuries sustained in an automobile accident Oct. 25. Boulder Lodge 45, A. F. and A. M., will have charge of the services, assisted by Rev. Angus C. Hull, pastor of the First Baptist church.  Mount Sinai Commandery, No. 7, Knights Templar, will provide an escort. He was also a member
of Royal Arch Masons and the Eastern Star and their members will attend the funeral.

Mr. Miller was born in Nevada, Mo., April 1, 1880.  With his parents, he moved to Lyons, Kan., when he was but a child.  In 1883 they moved to Colorado going to Gold Hill from Denver. Most of Mr. Miller’s life was spent in mining.  In 1909 he met and married Jessie Colleen Atterbury. To this union four children were born.  They are Charles Benton Miller, deceased; Dora Colleen Ferguson, Lillian Gertrude Helburg and Myron J. Miller.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller moved to California in 1918 and stayed until 1930 when the Colorado mountains called him back.  He mined but a short time after his return. He was at one time in line for offices in Masonic bodies but declined to serve though urged to take an active part. He was popular and his death came as a shock. The accident was not reported to Sheriff Richart until Sunday afternoon, the latter official said Monday, and when he called on Mr. Miller could not secure a coherent account because of Miller’s serious condition.  Officers are still investigating.  Taken from Elmer Curtis Swallow scrapbooks. The Larimer County Sun Newspaper (Wellington) Page 1. FANNY G. PATTERSON, COLORADO PIONEER, DIES AT BOULDER HOME Funeral services for Mrs. Fanny G. Patterson, for 40 years a resident of Wellington, were held in Boulder Monday at 10 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, Rev. H.M. Walters officiating. Interment was made in Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins, Colorado, at 12:30 Monday afternoon after a brief graveside service. Mrs. Patterson during her long residence here tool an active part in club and political circles, for many years being Republican precinct committeewoman. Pallbearers were D.S. Aldridge, Wm. Bevington, G.A. Goodding, A. J. Piatt, C.F. Osborn and E.A. Shinn. The Boulder Daily Camera Newspaper published the following regarding Mrs. Pattern's death: Mrs. Fanny Snell Patterson died this morning at the home of her sisters, Mrs. John Kirton and Miss Alice Snell, of 1411 Mapleton after a week's illness. She had moved here from Wellington two years ago to make her home with her sisters. Born in Plymouth, England, Feb. 7, 1871, Mrs. Patterson came tot he United States with her parents, the late Mr.a nd Mrs. John Snell, when she was six months of age. The parents moved with their family to Central City when she was but two and later came to Boulder. Before her marriage Miss Fanny Snell was an able and competent compositor in the Boulder Daily Camera. She later married J.M. Patterson, who had been a pioneer miner in Gilpin and Boulder Counties, and who became one of the founders of the town of Wellington. His death occurred May 5, 1929. Mrs. Patterson's only survivors are her two sisters.

The Denver Rocky Mountain News Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999 - Page 18B Wheeler, pioneer female Colorado barber, at age 99 By Bob Jackson - News Staff Writer Lillian Beckley WHEELER, thought to be the first black woman to get a barber's license in Colorado, died Friday in Colorado Care Manor after a long illness. She was 99. Memorial services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Fairmont Cemetery. Mrs. WHEELER, who was born in Pontotoc, Miss., on July 6, 1900, and educated there, moved to Boulder with her husband, Thomas Mason WHEELER, and their two children in September 1924. Her husband died Sept. 18, 1979. Mrs. WHEELER had a beautician's certificate from a Chicago beauty college. She said she did hair for most of her the 100 or so blacks who lived in Boulder during that time. Mrs. WHEELER, who earned her license Feb. 3, 1943, retired from barbering 16 years ago. She sold the shop bearing her name in the Dahlia Shopping Center to Stanley STEWART whom she trained, in 1983. "When I started working for her I was working three jobs trying to make it," said STEWART. "She told me to quit the other jobs and to work here and if I concentrated on it, I won't get rich, but would make a decent living." STEWART said Mrs. WHEELER helped him through tough times. "When my mother passed, she told me don't worry about a thing, you still have a mom," he said. During an interview last year, Mrs. WHEELER said she liked caring for hair. "I like pampering with hair and making it look good," she said. "I wouldn't enjoy cutting a man's hair all off." Mrs. WHEELER didn't remember how many haircuts she gave during her 40 years of barbering. "But I do know if I had the dollars from giving volunteer haircuts in hospitals and to sick people at home, I wouldn't have to worry about nothing the rest of my life," she said during the interview. "Barbering was an excellent life and I made a lot of friends." So many friends, in fact, that Denver Mayor Wellington WEBB proclaimed a day in honor of her98th birthday. KDKR-AM (1510) honored her on Mother's Day as Mother of the Year. "Mrs. WHEELER has been an entreprtuer, inspiration, role model and mentor of many citizens of the city and county of Denver," WEBB said last year. Mrs. WHEELER was a beautician first, then decided that she liked barbering better. "Using those iron-hot curlers and combs on hair created a lot of smoke and the smoke made me cough. So I quit doing women's hair and started barbering," she said last year. Mrs. WHEELER was a member of Shorter AME Community Church and a member of Shorter's The Loyalties Organization. She was also a member of Eastern Star and the Delta Mother's Patrons Club. She is survived by a daughter, Mabel LEATHERS of Okolona, Miss.; a granddaughter, Frances Farris BAILEY of Denver; a grandson, Clyde LEATHERS of Nashville; three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren

Treva VonCannon McNaney, a former Boulder resident who recently returned to North Carolina, died Thursday in Asheboro, N.C., following a long illness. She was 64.

She was born Aug 20, 1919, in Randolph County, N.C., the daughter of Arley and Rhodema Luther VonCannon.

Mrs. McNaney formerly was a secretary at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

She came to Boulder in 1954 from Washington, D.C.

She is survived by her husband, William Edward McNaney; two sons, Michael E. McNaney of Boulder, and Lowell C. McNaney of Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Mattie Progdon and Ima Briles, both of Asheboro; and two brothers, Clayson VonCannon and Farley VonCannon, both of Asheboro. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel in Asheboro, with the Revs. Joseph Ledwell and Leonard Cranford officiating. Burial will be in New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the City of Faith Cancer Research Center, 8181 S. Lewis, Tulsa, Okla., or to New Hope Memorial Fund, Route 8, Asheboro, N.C. 27203.

COPELAND. In Longmont, Wednesday, November 14, 1917, George Rovilio Copeland, aged 69 years, 2 months and 17 days.

Mr. Copeland was well known in Longmont for he has been the janitor of the Columbine school since its erection, and previous to that, was janitor of the Academy building when the district used it for school purposes, before it was used as St. Joseph's academy, in all about 12 years.

Mr. Copeland was a devout member of the Methodist church. He was born in Cortland, N. Y., and was the youngest member of McPherson Post, No. 6, G. A. R. having served in the 22d Iowa Infantry for 18 months. He was less than 16 years of age when he enlisted. He was a member of the G. A. R. Drum Corps for several years.

Mr. Copeland's kindly face will be missed at Columbine school and church circles, and remembered with the same kindly thoughts.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. J. L. Hedbloom and Rev. W. D. Waller.

This undated obituary is from an unknown newspaper and was pasted in a family Bible. Other sources suggest that the actual date (of death) is 21 Feb., 1902. I don't know for a FACT that the death occurred in Boulder County, but the obituary does mention Lafayette. I'd like to know where J.W. Pyle was buried. "Stricken Down By Heart Trouble" J.W. Pye died at his home in this city this morning after several weeks of illness. Heart disease afflicted him while he was working as jeweler in the jewelry house of R.M. Crosby & Co. several weeks ago. A few days ago, a friend who called was not recognized by the sick man. Mr. Pyle came here from Lafayette, being deputy assessor under Assessors Metcalf and Golden. Then he went back to his watchmaker's trade. "He conducted a jewelry store at Lafayette and resided at Denver, Leadville and other Colorado towns. He leaves a lovely wife and one child. Mr. Pyle was about 48 years of age and was an affectionate husband and father and a genuine gentleman."

Mrs. Ormena Douglass, who passed away Thursday, January 9, 1914, at her home on Coffman Street, was well known, especially among the old timers. Her age was 76 years, 4 months, and 1 day.

Mrs. Douglass had been in apparent good health, and was doing her own household duties every day. While preparing dinner, she went into the kitchen, when Mr. Douglass heard her fall. He went to her immediately, and found her dead upon the floor.

Mrs. Douglas was born in New York state in 1837. She was married in 1869 to William Stoddard, and came to Longmont in 1871, about the time the colony arrived. In 1873, Mr. Stoddard dropped dead from heart trouble, leaving his wife and two children, our Chauncey D. Stoddard, now employed in the post office, and one of the managers of the Isis theatre. The other, now Mrs. Luella Robbins, living at Nampa, Idaho, the wife of Chas. L. Robbins.

Three years after her husband's death, Mrs. Stoddard married Chester W. Douglas, and by this name most of us have known her.

Mrs. Douglas was a warm-hearted woman loved for her kind and pleasant disposition, and an active member of the W.W.C. and the Eastern Star. (Daughter of John D. Hall of VT & Sylvia Kibbe of NY)

The old lady has been suffering from various ailments of late, showing that nature was giving out. She was born in China, NY, May 18, 1814, and has been living with Mrs. Douglas the past five years. Her husband was lost in a great snow storm in Iowa, December 1871.

She leaves 2 sons and 6 daughters, Mrs. Douglas, the oldest, and Mrs. Messenger being the only ones in Longmont; 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, a total of 29 living descendants.

Funeral services will be held at the house at 2:30 this (Friday) afternoon.

STODDARD, Chauncey D.

Death of Chauncey D. Stoddard R.K. Pierson received a telegram last Friday morning from the secretary of the Elks at Ashland, Oregon, stating that Chauncey D. Stoddard was found dead in his tent at 4:35 Thursday afternoon. Mr. Stoddard held the office of Inspector of State Highways since last June, and it seems that it required active supervision, for he worked two shifts a day, of eight hours each, sleeping when he could in a tent. A second telegram to Mr. Pierson stated that the cause of death was acute pneumonia, and that the body would be shipped to Longmont in care of the Elks. While Chauncey Stoddard had been away from Longmont, except for a short visit, for about four years, for he left about a year after his mother died, he is so well and favorably known that he deserves more than a passing mention.

Chauncey D. Stoddard was born in Marshalltown, Iowa forty-eight years ago, the 5th of last May. He was about two months old when his parents came with him to Longmont with the Colorado Colony, his father passing away about three years later.

Chauncey Stoddard has been an active young man, and his cordial, frank, and open nature has made many friends who will always remember him with pleasure.

M. Stoddard served in the state militia in the Cripple Creek strike, and was First Sergeant in the army in the war with Spain, serving in the Philippines. He was awarded a Bronze Medal "For his services, his sacrifices, and dangerous discharge of his duties as an American Soldier." The document is dated December 1, 1899.

On his return from the Philippines, he went into the service of the post office department in Longmont, which place he held for fifteen years. It was during this time that he became interested with others in the Motion Picture of Longmont. Upon giving up his position in the post office and selling his motion picture interests, he decided to go to Ashland, Oregon where he had bought a fruit farm. This happened four years ago.

Mr. Stoddard was Past Exalter Ruler of the B.P.O Elks of Longmont, as well as an enthusiastic member of that order.

Upon receiving notice of the death of Mr. Stoddard, Mr. Pierson wired Chauncey's only sister and nearest relative, at Nampa, Idaho. Mrs. C.L. Robbins, and she took a night train fro Longmont, arriving here Sunday. He was the step-son of C.W. Douglas.

The body was received by F.R. Shaw on Wednesday, and funeral services were held at the Congregational Church in Longmont, Rev. Monroe Markley officiating. As the physician's certificate did not arrive with the body, according to the state law, the Internment had to be postponed. So, escorted by the Elks fraternity after the funeral service, the remains were taken to Shaw's mortuary.

In Longmont, Monday, July 30, 1923, Chester W. Douglass, aged 86 years, 2 months and 8 days. Mr. Douglas, well known war veteran and pioneer, answered the last call at midnight Monday night and is at rest.

Chester W. Douglas was born in Franklyn County, New York, October 6, 1836, and at the age of eight years moved with his parents to Waukegan (Lake County), Ill. making the trip overland.

At the time of the Civil War he enlisted with the 21st Illinois Infantry and served until the war was over. His brothers were also Mountaineers in the war and the youngest, Oscar, gave his life for his country following the battle of Bull Run.

Mr. Douglas was married in Waukegan to Marilla Bryant, who died October 1, 1866, leaving two children, Hattie and Chester, both of whom have passed away. A grandson survives, Everett Chamberlain, son of his daughter, Hattie, who lives in California.

In 1874, Mr. Douglas came to Longmont and here he has made his home for 49 years. For a short time he was associated with Byron L. Carr in mining at Gold Hill, but for a number of years he was a jeweler and in business with Jud Terrell.

Two years after coming to Longmont he was married to Mrs. O. Stoddard who passed away in January 1914.

Mr. Douglas was a member of the G.A.R. and held many positions in the order, playing the fife always on Memorial Day. He was also a Mason and the funeral, which was held yesterday, was conducted by the Masonic Order, Rev. Monroe Markley conducting the service at the church. Besides the grandson, he is survived by one niece, Mrs. J.J. McDougall of Longmont. He also leaves a step-daughter, Mrs. Luella Robbins

Monroe Allen, 65, died at the local hospital Sunday morning after a ten-day illness.

Mr. Allen, who underwent amputation of his left leg a year ago, had only been ill since Thanksgiving day. He suffered a stroke December 1 and was removed to the hospital at that time.

Born in Blair, Nebraska, May 20, 1881, Mr. Allen had lived in Colorado for the past 40 years, operating meat markets here and in Ault. He returned to Longmont seven years ago. He worked for Kuner-Empson and operated a small farm southwest of Longmont before retirement a year ago. Since then he made his home with his sister, Miss Eva Allen, at 36 Harrison avenue, and for the past few months at 728 Collyer street. Surviving relatives are a son, Robert Allen, serving with the armed forces in India; and three sisters, Mrs. P. E. Callender and Mrs. Iola Brokaw, both of Bellingham, Washington, and Miss Eva Allen of Longmont. A brother, Clifford Allen, died in a fall from a bridge in Oregon a month ago.

Services will be held Tuesday (tomorrow) morning at 10 o'clock from Prohs funeral home. Rev. Claude Kinsley, pastor of the Methodist church, will officiate. Internment will be in Mountain View cemetery

Mrs. Rooks was a member of the Boulder Valley Christian Church, the Boulder Rebekah Lodge No. 5, and the Territorial Daughters of Colorado. She is survived by four sons, Charles R., Ernest Lloyd, Delbert C. and Lyndle E. Rooks, all of Boulder; three daughters, Thelma Lauer of Yuma, AZ, and Alta Hoover and Rena Marie Rooks, both of Boulder; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Two sons and two grandsons preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Howe Mortuary Chapel in Boulder. The Rev. Gerald A. Gibson of the Boulder Valley Christian Church will officiate. Burial will follow the service in Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder.

BURIAL: Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 28, 1988, at Howe Mortuary Chapel in Boulder. The Rev. Gerald A. Gibson of the Boulder Valley Christian Church officiated with burial following the service.

Pallbearers were her grandsons: Wayne Biehn, Richard Rooks, Jim Lauer, Dean Rooks, and grandsons-in-law, Kim Brandt and Jim Lippincott. Burial was at Green Mountain Cemetery, Boulder, Colorado, beside her husband.

CRUSHED UNDER TRACTOR -
Colorado Man Fatally Injured When Machine Backs Over Him -
At age 54, Charles Edward Rooks was fatally injured shortly before noon on June 29, 1946, when a tractor accidentally slipped into gear and backed over him on the J. P. Blevins farm a mile south of Lyons. With wounds in the chest and abdomen, a broken left arm, and the flesh severed from the lower part of his right leg, Rooks was taken to the Lyons hospital, where he died at 12:20 p.m.

Rooks and his brother-in-law, Monte Blevins, tenant on his father's farm, had just started to plow a wheat field with a tractor and one-way plow. Seeing that the rows were crooked, Rooks dismounted from the tractor to adjust the connection between it and the plow. While he was kneeling on the ground, the clutch on the tractor slipped into reverse gear, backed up, and crushed Rooks underneath.

Blevins ran to a nearby field and hailed Forrest Ebright, who sent for a Crawford and Miller ambulance. Rooks was conscious on the way to the hospital but died shortly after being admitted.

The victim had arrived Monday with his wife Effie, and daughter, Rena Marie, to visit his sisters, Mrs. Blevins and Mrs. John Huber of Lyons. Rooks was a watchman for the Industrial Mining Supply Company in Boulder, Colorado. He was born June 22, 1892, in Fairplay, Missouri, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Other survivors are five sons, Charles R., Lloyd, Delbert C., Lyndle E., and Leon E., all of Boulder, Colorado; two daughters, Mrs. Dale Lauer and Mrs. Byron Biehn, Boulder, Colorado; and a brother, John Rooks, Bellingham, Washington.

A son, Donald, was killed a month ago in Japan.

BURIAL: Funeral services were held at Howe Mortuary with the Rev. Robert L. Foster of the First Christian Church officiating. Interment was in Green Mountain Cemetery.

Charles Gustafson, Former Street Superintendent, Dies
Charles Gustafson, able Boulder City Road supervisor from July 1 1924, until retiring because of ill health Sept. 1, 1944, died this morning [Oct. 5, 1948] in a Denver hospital. He had been living since his retirement with a daughter, Christine, who is a member of the faculty of the Junior college at Casper, Wyo. When he became ill he was taken to a Denver hospital.

Mr. Gustafson was active in mining in Boulder county until becoming street superintendent. He and Julia Hammer were married Sept. 22, 1901 in Boulder, and made their home at Gold Hill before they moved to Boulder. Mrs. Gustafson died July 16, 1944, after a long period of ill health.

Surviving Mr. Gustafson are five children -- three sons and two daughters. The sons are John and Adolph, graduates of the University and engineers with the U. S. Reclamation Service in Denver, and Carl, employed at Casper. The daughters are Ann, who served as a Wave in the U. S. marines during War II and who is a secretary with the Reclamation Bureau in Denver; and Christine of Casper.

Mr. Gustafson was born in Sweden Sept. 29, 1870. He was brought to Boulder county by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Gustafson in 1884. [See note below]

Funeral services are to be held from Howe mortuary Friday at 3. Rev. H. M. Walters, rector of St. John's Episcopal church, will officiate along with Boulder Lodge No. 45, A. F. & A. M. Interment will be in the family lot, Green Mountain.

NOTE: His parents NEVER left Sweden. He came alone at the age of 15 and lived with an aunt and uncle. This information came from his son John and daughter Christine, written in letters independently of each other. Also, the daughter of his aunt and uncle, Anna Williamson, wrote the same thing in a letter. One additional proof is a letter written by his sister from Sweden in 192?; in it she mentions that Charles and Julia had sent a gift for "Mother's birthday."

July 1944 Mrs. Charles Gustafson Mrs. Charles Gustafson died July 16 at the Community hospital following a long period of ill health.

Mrs. Gustafson was born at Boulder, Feb 3, 1877. Her maiden name was Julia Hammer. She was educated in the Boulder schools. As a young woman, she taught school in Utah and later at Gold Hill.

She married at Boulder to Charles Gustafson, Sept. 22, 1901, and they lived at Gold Hill following her marriage, until 1925, when the family moved to Boulder.

Mrs. Gustafson was not active in organizations of any kind, devoting herself entirely to her family and friends.

Her husband, Charles Gustafson, was for many years engaged in mining activities in Boulder county, and has been superintendent of streets for Boulder since July 1, 1928.

She is survived by her husband, five children and four grandchildren. Daughters are Ann Gustafson, now a sergeant in the Women's Reserve of the United State marine Corps, and Christine Gustafson, a teacher in the high school at Grand Junction, Colo. There are three sons, John and Adolph, both employed by the U. S. Reclamation bureau at Denver, and Carl, employed by the Coliseum Motor company of Casper, Wyo. There are four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Howe mortuary Tuesday at 2:30. Rev. H. M. Walters of St. John's Episcopal church will officiate. The body will like in state until the hour of the services. Interment Green Mountain.

Ernest T. Hill Dies Suddenly At His Home Ernest T. Hill, of 2125 S. Walnut Sct [sic], a long time employe [sic] of the Public Service Co. of Colorado in Boulder, died suddenly at his home Monday afternoon [Aug 21]. Born in Medina, Ohio, May 24, 1900, he was the son of John T. [D.] Hill and Charlotte E. [Kenyon] Hill. He came to Boulder in 1936 from Denver where he had operated a greenhouse [Sheridan Greenhouse]. At the time of his death he was street foreman for the gas department of the Public Service co. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, the Boulder Elks Lodge No. 566 for 18 years, and the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was married to the former Margaret B. Hannan in Denver April 19, 1922. She survives as do three sons and three daughters. They are Chief Petty Officer Jack T. Hill, with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam and a 20-year veteran of that service, who will be here for the funeral; Robert P. and James L. Hill, both of Boulder; Mrs. June Hughes, also of Boulder; Mrs. Gilbert (Elizabeth) Sour, National City, Calif.; and Mrs. Richard (Jacqueline) Mikes of Thornton. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A daughter, Peggy Jean [Margaret Emogene] Hill, died when she was 20 [1947]. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Geddes-Hibbard Mortuary.

Hill [correct name: Ernest T.] at 950 Green Mountain avenue [correct address was 1567 9th Street] Sunday evening [Aug. 12]. He had been ill two weeks. Born in Chicago, Ill., July 3, 1862, Mr. Hannan had been employed by the United States post office service for 43 years [in Chicago] before retiring. He came to Boulder [from Denver] five years ago. His wife, Mrs. Margaret [Kane] Hannan, preceded him in death ten days, her death occurring Aug. 2. Surviving besides Mrs. Hill are three other daughters, Mrs. Virginia Greeno, Miss Marian [Marion] Hannan, all of Boulder, and Mrs. Genevieve Tullis, of Chicago. Rosary services will be held at Allardice mortuary Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Requiem Mass will be held at Sacred Heart church on Thursday at 9 a.m. Rev. Father Paul Fife will have charge of the services. Interment will be in Green Mountain Cemetery beside his wife.

Mrs. Hannan, a psychology teacher [incorrect, she was an author and speaker], resided at 1543 Pine, having moved there recently from 1038 University. She was born in Tonica, Ill., Aug. 24, 1872. Besides the husband survivors are four daughters--Miss Marion Hannan, who is recovering in a Denver hospital from severe burns suffered recently in a doctor's office in Denver, where she was employed; Mrs. Margaret Hill, Boulder; Mrs. Virginia Greeno, Boulder, and Mrs. Genevieve Tullis, Chicago. Body will be at Allardice mortuary. Funeral later.

Mrs. Lottie Rimer, 77, wife of the late George W. Rimer of Longmont, died at her home, 513 Terry Street, at 8:30 p.m. Monday. Mrs. Rimer, who had been in failing health for several years, was born at Clinton, Missouri, August 17, 1875. She had lived in Longmont since 1912. A member of the Methodist church in Missouri, Mrs. Rimer also was a past noble grand of the Rebekah lodge in Niwot and a member of the Mutual Improvement club in Longmont. A well known resident of Longmont, Mrs. Rimer was stricken suddenly Monday afternoon while visiting with friends. She failed to respond to treatment and died a few hours later. Although she was in poor health for many years, her death was unexpected. Surviving relatives are one daughter, Mrs. Rozella Hottel of Longmont; two grandsons, Ted Hottel of Longmont and Bill Hottel of Fort Collins; four great-grandchildren; one cousin, Mrs. Alva Reed, Denver; one brother and one sister, living in California, and one sister in Iowa. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. from Lewellen Funeral home, Rev. David Evans of First Congregational church officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View cemetery.

DEATH CLAIMS GEORGE RIMER EARLY TODAY George W. Rimer, 76-year-old retired Longmont business man, died at his home, 513 Terry Street, at 2:10 a.m. today. He had been in failing health since last September. Mr. Rimer was born in Lexington, Illinois, August 5, 1872, and came to Colorado in 1906 from Clinton, Missouri. He settled first at Loveland and later moved to Boulder and then to Niwot. He took up his residence here in 1912. He established a paint and wall paper business in 1912 Fourth avenue, now occupied by the Red Cross and Welfar offices. He continued in that business until 1928, when he sold out to the present Longmont Paint and Glass company. At that time Mr. Rimer entered the insurance business, which he continued until his health failed last September. Mr. Rimer was active in lodge work here and was a member of Longmont lodge No. 29, I.O.O.F., for over 35 years. He was past grand and past trustee of the organization. He also held membership in St. Vrain lodge A.F.&A.M. since 1920 and was a member of Royal ARch Masons No. 8. He was a member of the Methodist church in Clinton, Missouri. Surviving relatives are his wife, Mrs. Lottie Rimer of Longmont; one daughter, Mrs. W.E. (Rozella) Hottel, Longmont; two brothers, H.F. and R.E. Rimer of Seattle, Washington; and two sisters, Mrs. George M. Brinkman and Mrs. Fritz Rumel of Los Angeles. Two grandsons, Ted and William Hottel of Longmont, and three great- grandchildren also are living. A son died several years ago. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from Lewellen Funeral home, Rev. Gabriel S. Upton officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View cemetery with Masons in charge of committal services at the graveside.

Survivors include his former wife, Joan Eola Gladwell of Hotchkiss; a son, Robert Parke Hill II of Grand Junction; two brothers, James Hill of Boulder and Jack Hill of Arizona; two sisters, Jackie Mikes of Thornton and Betty Hill of California [deceased 1987]; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday at Crist Mortuary Chapel, 34th Street and The Diagonal Highway, Boulder. A funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. at the mortuary with the Rev. She was born June 3, 1899 in Chicago, the daughter of William Hannon [Hannan] and Margaret Cane [Kane] Hannon [Hannan]. She married Ernest T. Hill in November 1921 [19 Apr 1922] in Denver. A homemaker, she moved to Boulder from Denver in 1936. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and two daughters. Survivors include three sons, James L. Hill and Robert P. Hill, both of Boulder, and Jack T. Hill of San Diego; two daughters Elizabeth Sauer [Moore; deceased December 1987] of National City, Calif., and Jacqueline Mikes of Thornton; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Green Mountain Cemetery, 290 20th Street., Boulder. The Rev. William Youngblood of Mountain View United Methodist Church will officiate. Howe Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Jack Telford Hill-March 2, 1930 - Feb. 22[17], 2002. Jack Telford Hill of El Cajon, Calif., and formerly of Boulder, died of liver cancer Friday, Feb. 22[17], 2002, in El Cajon. He was 71. The son of Ernest T. Hill and Margaret B. Hannan Hill, he was born March 2, 1930, in Denver. He married Patricia DeCosta on Dec. 3, 1950, in Las Vegas. His family moved from Denver to Boulder in 1936. Mr. Hill remained in Boulder until 1947. He attended Boulder High School for one year. He served in the Navy for 30 years and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He earned several military medals, including the National Defense Service medal, the United Nations Korean medal, the Vietnam Service medal and the Good Conduct Medal [3 times]. Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Hill of Ramona, Calif., Jacqueline Carrigan of Moses Lake, Wash., and Virginia Travis of Germantown, MD.; a brother, James L. Hill of Boulder; a sister, Jackie Mikes of Thornton; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1963; a brother, Robert Hill of Boulder; three sisters, June Hughes and Margaret E. Hill, both of Boulder and Elizabeth Moore of San Diego. Interment will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego. Contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454. Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Lila P. CHANDLER, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P.K. FISHER, of Alamosa, died in Denver - Friday morning, October 21st, age 33 years and two days. The funeral services were held in Denver, Dr. Wilcox of the Trinity M. E. church officiating. The interment was at Boulder under the auspices of the Rebecca Lodge, of which Miss CHANDLER was a member. The deceased was born in O'Brien county Iowa, but had made her home in Colorado for a number of years. She was of a happy, cheerful, contended disposition and though she knew death was not far distant a year ago by reason of a weak heart, never lost courage and that Christian spirit and faith which marked her character. She will be sadly missed by many who know her because of her genial ways and good heart. Miss CHANDLER was staying with her sister, Vel FISHER, while Mr. and Mrs. FISHER were making their home in Alamosa. The family have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their hour of bereavement; but they may be assured that Miss Lila had not lived in vain, and though taken from earth in the noontide of life has left a monument of unselfishness and cheer.
