RUSSELL DAILY NEWS, 20 April 2002 Obituary of MIRIAM FOSTER BALL Miriam Foster Ball, 82, 1016 West 35th Street, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at Hays Medical Center. She was born Feb. 1, 1919, in Colorado Springs, Colo., the daughter of William T. and Sarah Gorham Foster. Miriam attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo., and Ft. Hays State University. She married Charles D. McCullough on August 20, 1938. They were divorced. She married Chester W. Ball on Oct. 4, 1946 in Phoenix, Arizona. He died Feb. 28, 1974. Miriam was a banker and a retired farmer and stockman. She was chairman of the Board of the Gorham State Bank, served two terms on the Board of Trustees of the Fort Hays State Endowment Association, and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hays, a member of Smoky Hill Country Club, and was mentioned in Who's Who of American Women, Second Edition 1961 - 62. She is survived by: three daughters, Margery Enke, Livermore, Colo., Sandra Leas, Hays, and Candace Ball, Carbondale, Illinois; one stepson, Gary Ball, Denver, Colorado; one stepdaughter, Janice Grafton, Simsbury, Conn; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and by cousins, Robert and Marian Layher, Hays, and Rosemary Landon, Colorado Springs, Colo. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 25, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Hays, with Rev. Dick Glasgow officiating. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Brock's North Hill Chapel, Hays. The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Fort Hays State University Endowment Association.
