Brief History from Kansas State Historical Society:

 Hodgeman county was organized on March 29, 1879, by T. W. Pehman; James Gilland; J. W. Harlen; S. J. Eakin; L. E.
Carter; J. R. Wilson; S. A. Sheldon; Samuel Townsend; T. R. David; and Clawson Parker. Named for Amos Hodgeman,
Captain of Company H, 7th Kansas Cavalry, the legislature originally did not include the "e" in the name, but later it was
added. The county contains the cities of Jetmore and Hanston.
