Traci Kenley
Hastings resident, Traci Lynn Kenley died Aug. 17, 2000, in an auto accident near Glenvil. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday at the Edgar Cemetery. Traci was born Sept. 23, 1971, to Bill and Sharon (McLaughlin) Kenley in Hastings. She lived on a farm southeast of Edgar, then moved to Hastings after high school graduation. She attended Edgar Elementary School and graduated from Sandy Creek Junior-Senior High School in 1989. She attended Central Community College in Hastings and also earned a bachelor's degree in human and social service administration from Bellevue University. She worked at Good Samaritan and Martin Luther Home in Hastings. At the time of death she had been employed at the Hastings Regional Center as a psych technician since 1991. Survivors are her parents, Bill and Sharon Kenley, Edgar; three brothers, Bill and Dick, Edgar, Dan, Fairbury and one sister, Mrs. Gene Runge (Linda), Hutchinson; and special friend, Doug Wolfe, Hastings. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Paul and Helen McLaughlin, Edgar, and William and Grace Kenley, Edgar. Williams Funeral Home, Edgar, is in charge of arrangements.

Rex Tophigh
Rex Tophigh 76, died in El Dorado Hills, Calif., July 28. He was born Oct. 28, 1925 in Hardy. He had been a resident of El Dorado Hills since 1993, and lived in Foster City, Calif., for 25 years. He was a building contractor for 45 years in the state of California. His hobbies included fishing and golf. He was an active member of SIRS No. 49 in Folsom and a member of Folsom Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, Roy Tophigh; daughters, Dana Everson, Karen Smith and Holly Abplanalp; seven grandchildren; sisters, Erna Hayes, Superior and Ethel Crook; and two stepdaughters, Carol Morgan and Sue Olfers; six step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Private graveside services were held at San Joaquin National Valley Cemetery with a memorial service at a later date.

Ruth Wehrman
Ruth Elaine Wehrman, 71, was born Nov. 21, 1930, in Nelson, to William and Nora Janssen, and died in the Good Samaritan Center, Simla, Colo., July 25. She grew up in Missouri with two sisters and a brother. She graduated from Nelson High School and attended Kearney State College, before marrying John R. (Dick) Wehrman on Aug. 8, 1950. They began their lives together in Nelson and moved to Colorado in 1954. Their marriage produced three children. Together, Ruth and Dick began their own business, where they worked together until they retired in Elbert, Colo. She was a deacon of her former church, a den mother, an active member of the Elbert Presbyterian Church and the Ladies Aide. She enjoyed oil painting, gardening and bird watching. Survivors include her husband, Dick, children, John Jr., Jim and Mrs. Rick Suder (Beth) and five grandchildren and sisters, Loreen Adamson and Nellie Littrell, Nelson. Memorial services were held by Dr. Karen Johnson at the Elbert Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Nelson Cemetery.

Arnold Bohling
Superior resident, Arnold "B" Bohling,87, died Thursday at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital, Superior. Services were Monday at Salem Lutheran Church north of Superior with the Rev. Dan Hays officiating. Burial was in the Davenport Cemetery. Mr. Bohling was born June 25, 1915, to Frederick and Martha (Glawatz) Bohling at Sedan. He attended St. Peter's Lutheran Elementary School in Davenport and graduated from Davenport High School in 1935. He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad prior to enlisting in the Navy soon after Pearl Harbor. He served as a gunner's mate aboard the USS McCalla during the Pacific campaign. He was married at Davenport on June 20, 1947, to Beth (Snyder) Bohling. They resided in Hastings until moving to Deshler in 1954 when he became a Standard Oil agent. In 1957 he was transferred to Superior, where they lived at the time of his death. Survivors are his wife, two daughters, Sharon Bohling, McCook, and Martha Bohling, Indian Hills, Colo., two grandsons, Robert Bohling, Hastings and Jason Wessel, Harvard, three great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Nita McKee, five brothers and four sisters.

Velma Harms
Velma Maria Harms, 83, the daughter of Henry and Martha (Brettman) Bethke, was born Aug. 2, 1919, on the family farm near Deshler. She died Friday at Parkview Haven Nursing Home, Deshler. She was the third of five children born in her family. Velma was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler, and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Kiowa. She attended school at Carleton and Sedan through the fifth grade and completed the eighth grade at Kiowa. She then helped at a cousin's family by doing the milking, helping care for the children, doing household chores, washing and ironing. She married Gustav Harms on Aug. 18, 1940, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Davenport. This union was blessed with three children, Virginia, Dennis and Julia. They lived their married life in the Kiowa area, farming and milking cows. They attended Bethleham Lutheran Church until its closing in 1967. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Deshler. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Albert, Harold and Melvin Bethke. She is survived by her husband, Gas Harms, Davenport, children Mrs. Frank Geib (Virginia), Leavenworth, Dennis Harms, Davenport and Mrs. Levi Krause (Julia), Louisville; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Clarence McGhghy (Mildred) Hebron. Services were held at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Deshler, with the Rev. Duane Fahr officiating. Interment was in the Bethlehem Lutheran Kiowa Cemetery, rural Thayer County. Ahrendts Funeral Home of Deshler, was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothea Rogers
Dorothea Caroline Margaret Rogers, 84, the daughter of Fredrick and Katherine (Grummert) Hornbussel was born March 27, 1918, on a farm near Superior. She died Wednesday, Aug. 7 at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital. One of eight children, she was baptized and confirmed at the Salem Lutheran Church, Superior. She was educated at Beaver Rural School and graduated from Superior High School. On March 10, 1941, in Twin Falls, Idaho, she married Bud Rogers. Four children were born to this union. Preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, LeAnn K. Emal; three brothers, Fredrick, George and Edwin; and two sisters, Erna Schiermeyer and Lenore Bruce. Survivors include her husband, Bud, daughter, Mrs. Carl Kalinowski, (Lynda), Omaha; son, Randl, Hastings; daughter, Mrs. Robert Cassidy (Jean), Lincoln, Neb.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Robert Knott (Pauline), Omaha, and Rosella Martin, Superior. Services were held Saturday from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, with Pastor Leslie Warner officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Sam Swartz
Sam Swartz, a U.S. Army veteran and member of the Superior High School Class of 1938, died Thursday morning in a Veterans Hospital. A former resident of Deshler, he was currently living Desert Hot Springs, Calif. He had operated plumbing businesses in both Deshler and California.

Kenneth Reynolds
Kenneth E. Reynolds, 71, Abilene, died Jan. 15 at Memorial Hospital, Abilene. He was born July 22, 1931, at Cuba, the son of Herbert and Eleanor (Klaumann) Reynolds. He graduated from Cuba High School. March 4, 1951, he married Shirley Kindler at Lebanon. They lived in Cuba five years moving to Illinois where he worked with registered cattle as a herdsman. He later worked at the Carl Sandberg Jr. College, Galesburg, Ill., as a maintenance man. They moved to Abilene in 1995. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Abilene, a member of the Good Sams Recreational Vehicle Club since 1972, serving as Illinois Assistant State Director, State Patch Packer, and Illinois State Director. After moving to Abilene he was Kansas Assistant State Director for six years. He was also a member of the Air Capital Carnival Glass Club. Surviving besides his wife are a son, Larry, Tonganoxie; a daughter, Linda Gleason, St. John; two brothers, Ray Reynolds, Agenda, and Carol Reynolds, Derby; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Leroy Reynolds. Services were at First United Methodist Church, Jan. 20 with the Rev. Rick Saylor officiating. Graveside services and burial were in Esbon Cemetery, Esbon. Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, was in charge of arrangements.

Laurrita Yarber
Laurrita D. Yarber, 82, died Jan. 22 at Long Term Care Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit. She was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Randall, the daughter of Miles McCracken Thornton and Loeta Dell Espelund. She married Floyd H. Yarber. He died Aug. 26, 1983. She was a lifetime resident of Randall, except during her husband's military career when they traveled the world. After her husband's retirement, she returned to Randall, where she lived until moving to Mitchell County Hospital Long Term Care. Survivors include two sisters, Lucile Plowman, San Leandro, Calif.; Florence Fitch, Portland, Ore.; and a brother, Melvin Thornton, Randall. She was preceded in death by parents, three brothers and a sister. Private family services are planned at a later date. Burial will be in West Lutheran Cemetery, Randall. Blachly and Buoy Funeral Home, Jamestown, are in charge of arrangements.

Dennis Zachgo
Dennis Keith Zachgo, 53, Tipton, died at his home Jan. 19. He was born Feb. 16, 1949, to LeRoy and Bonita Mintier Zachgo. He attended school at Vesper Grade and High School and Sylvan Unified High School. He played college football at College of Emporia and attended Fort Hays State University. On Aug. 7, 1971, Dennis married Twila Ulin. The couple resided at Hays, where Dennis worked for Allied Construction Co. In 1973 they moved to Tipton where he worked for Kent Manufacturing and Treb Construction. During this time he also farmed with his father-in-law, Woody Ulin. At the time of his death he was manager at the Farmway Coop Elevator, Hunter, where he worked for the past 15 years. Dennis attended Grace Chapel United Methodist Church, Hunter, and was a member of the Tipton Lions Club. He was on the school council, was the city judge, an EMT for Tipton, and a volunteer fireman for Tipton and Hunter. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and golfing. Preceding him in death were a brother, Larry, and his parents. Survivors include his wife of Tipton, two sons, Brian, Fort Atkinson, Wis., and Kelly, Geneva, Neb.; a daughter, Amber, Manhattan; two grandchildren; a brother, Ron, Salina; and a sister, Trish Waterman, Jewell. The funeral was Jan. 22 at Grace Chapel United Methodist Church, Hunter, with Marian Walker officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Hunter. Arrangements were made by Domoney Mortuary, Downs.

Ryan Struckhoff
Ryan John Struckhoff, 17, Kensington, died Jan. 21 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney, Neb. He was born Jan. 14, 1986, at St. Anthony Hospital in Hays to John and Bobbi Struckhoff, Kensington. Ryan became a confirmed member of the Kensington United Church where he was a junior deacon. At Kensington High School he was a member of KAYs, FFA, SADD and Pep-Club. He participated in football, basketball, track and golf. Survivors include his parents; sisters Alyssa and Ashley; brothers Ragen and Reece, all of the home; grandparents, Milton and Charlotte Detwiler and Bob and Barbara Struckhoff, all of Athol; great-grandparents, Maude Keller, Lebanon, and Dale and Dorothy Detwiler, Kensington. Services were Monday at Kensington High School Gym with Pastors Dale McCain and Lance McDowell presiding. Burial was in the Myer-Pleasant View Cemetery, Athol. Simmons Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Freda Anderson
Freda Helen Anderson, 88, the daughter of John H. and Ver Berna C. (Hofts) Windhorst, was born Nov. 15, 1914, on the family farm at Deshler. She died Saturday at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville. Feb. 20, 1949, she married Harold E. Anderson at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Deshler. They had three children, James, Lyle and Marylee. She and Harold first lived on a farm five miles south and one mile west of Courtland. In 1953, they purchased the farm two miles south of Courtland where they lived until 1986 when they retired and moved into town. For 18 years, Freda was head cook at the Courtland High School lunchroom. She will be remembered for her love of baking, especially Swedish tea rings and rye bread. She was an active member of Ada Lutheran Church, Ada WELCA, Naomi Circle, and Welcome In Club until she moved to the Belleville Health Care Center on Sept. 4, 1999. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1991; an infant brother, Elmer; her sister, Esther Lipker. She is survived by her children, James Anderson, Bonsall, Calif.; Lyle Anderson, Courtland; Mrs. Dale Fischer (Marylee), Doniphan; brothers, Erwin Windhorst, Deshler, Eldon Windhorst, Hebron and Roy Windhorst, Deshler; and six grandchildren. Services were held Wednesday at the Ada Lutheran Church, Courtland, with Pastor Shelby Bailey officiating. Burial was in Ada Lutheran Cemetery, Courtland. These arrangements were by Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral home, Belleville.

Robert Cooper
Robert Ernest "Bob" Cooper, 73, the son of Ralph and Alberta (Long) Cooper, was born March 26, 1930, near Marysville. He died Thursday, April 10, at the Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home, Hebron. He moved with his parents to Superior, Neb., where he graduated from high school. He was a member of Superior High's undefeated football team in 1949. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church at the time of his death. On July 30, 1950, he married Marilyn N. Wilken at Grace Lutheran Church, Hebron. This union was blessed with two daughters, Janice and Rebecca. The couple started married life in Superior, moving to Belleville and Hebron and in 1988 to Clayton, N.M., for five years before returning to Hebron. He was a Debus bread truck driver for 10 years and then began his 30 year career as an independent insurance agent. During this time he was named to the "Millionaire Round Table" twice. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and taught youngsters how to hunt safely and catch the "big ones." He was preceded in death by his death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, Hebron; daughters, Mrs. James Buller (Janice), and Rebecca Strothkamp, all of Hebron; three grandchildren; a great-grandson, two brothers, Thomas or Rochester, Wash., and Jerry of Seattle, Wash. Services were held Sunday at Grace Lutheran Church, Hebron, with the Rev. Richard Pfleiderer officiating. The body was cremated. Price Funeral Home of Hebron, was in charge of arrangements.

Travis Ford
Cpt. Travis A. Ford died April 4, 2003, while defending his country over the skies of Iraq. He was born Nov. 19, 1972, to Harold and Josephine Ford in St. Paul. He grew up in Ogallala, where he excelled in athletics. Upon graduating in 1991, Travis enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as an engineer equipment operator. While in the Reserves, he attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where he earned a bachelor's degree in accounting. He was an avid Huskers fan and a member of the Nebraska Yell Squad. He was also a member of Phi Gamma Theta social fraternity. In August, 1996, Travis married Deon Tipton of Superior. In April 2001, their daughter, Ashley Morgan was born. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boxing and time with family and friends. In May, 1997, he was commissioners as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He attended Field Artillery officer's Basic Course at Fort Sill, Okla., and was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines. He then served as a forward observer and later as the executive officer of Echo Battery. He was accepted for flight training through the Fleet Accession Program in Pensacola, Fla. In March, 2002, he earned his Wings of Gold. Following his additional training at camp Pendleton, Calif., he was assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter squadron 267, flying the Ah-1 Super Cobra helicopter. In January, 2003, Capt. Ford deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Survivors include his wife, Deon, their daughter, Ashley, of Oceanside, Calif., his mother, Josephine, Ogallala, and his brothers, Alex, San Diego, Mike, Belton, Mo., Todd, Grant, and Matt, Chadron. Services were held Wednesday at the Berean Church , North Platte, Burial was in Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Carpenter Memorial Chapel, North Platte, is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Gonder
Charles Averell Gonder was born in Carrol County, Mo., on May 31, 1919, to George and Elizabeth Bell Gonder. He died April 11, 2003 at Hemphill, Texas. He attended schools in Carrollton, Mo., as an honor student and attended the University of Missouri. He was united in marriage to Eleanor Nadine Musick in Carrollton, Mo., in 1937. This union was blessed with four children. He was a navy veteran and served in the Pacific at Pearl Harbor. After returning from the war, he was a supervisor with Co-op Oil Refineries for many years in Phillipsburg, Kan., and later at Coffeyville, Kan. To Averill, or "Pop" Gonder as he was known to his family, was a fierce competitor and loved any kind of game. He especially loved cards and had master credits in bridge., He enjoyed all sports and was known for his athletic abilities. Outdoors was where he wanted to be as an avid hunter and fisherman. He continued to play golf and go dancing until a few weeks before his death. He was an accomplished musician and played many musical instruments including the violin, guitar, banjo, piano, organ and keyboard. He was an innovator and in the early fifties built his own version of a pop-up camper that fit on the back of a pickup. He named the camper the Mrs. G' in honor of his wife, Eleanor, who assisted him with the project. He later took over more ambitious projects and built a pontoon boathouse, giving his family and friends hours of enjoyment. He assembled a "kit" T.V. and built the cabinet for the family's first television. Friends questioned this ambitious project and asked why he just didn't buy a T.V. His answer "because it cost less and it was a challenge." He was especially proud that at the age of 80, never having any computer experience, he checked out a book to study and with one hour of instruction was "surfing the net with the best of them." This gave him an opportunity to keep in close contact with family, especially his grandchildren. He was always active in church work where he shared his musical talent. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eleanor; son, Charles Averill Gonder, Jr.; and brother, Truman Dale Gonder. He leaves to mourn his daughter, Patricia Cleveland, and her husband, Conley, Webber, Kan.; Barb Tweedy, Republican City, Neb.; Kathy Gonder, Mankato, Kan., brothers, Dr. William and Mrs. Gonder, Jefferson City, Mo.; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Burl Musick, Carrollton, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Coffeyville, Kan. Services will be at Ford Wulf Bruns Mortuary, Coffeyville, Kan., today (Thursday).

Donna Hare
Donna Frances Roe Hare, 76, Charlotte, N.C., died Friday at Wilora Lakes nursing home. A memorial service will be held at Calvary Church of the Nazarene, at 4 p.m. on Saturday. A graveside service will be held at Olive Hill Cemetery southwest of Superior at a later date. Born Dec. 19, 1926, in Jewell County to the late Francis Leroy Roe and Gladys Chamberlain Roe, Donna attended high School in Superior and graduated from business college in Lincoln, Neb. She married Charles Louis Hare, Sr. on July 4, 1946, he died in September 1995. She is survived by her children; Charles Hare, Jr., Austin, Texas; Elizabeth Brunmeier, Raleigh, N. C.; Michael Hare, Atlanta, Ga.; Maribeth Hare, Salina, and Charlene Williams, Charlotte, N.C.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren as well as a sister, Fern Graham, Sun City, Ariz., and aunts, Verla Roe, Superior and Winifred Uhley, West Covina, Calif. Arrangements are by Carolina Funeral and Cremation Center.

Allen Harriger
Allen Samuel Harriger, 88, the son of Fredrick A. and Lena (Waterman) Harriger, was born Dec. 28, 1914, in Beaver Crossing. He died Thursday at his home in Superior. He attended Exeter Public School and graduated from Exeter High School. He married Eleanor McCowin on Dec. 18, 1942 in Curtis, Neb. He enlisted in the United States Army on March 28, 1942, and was honorably discharged on Jan. 16, 1946. He was employed with the Chicago North Western Railroad serving as a depot agent. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, VFW, Legion, Kiwanis, IOOF, Elks, Masons and the Superior Country Club, all of Superior. His hobbies included golfing and fishing. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Eleanor on Jan. 1, 1994; and one brother, Henry. Survivors include his two sisters, Mrs. Harold Mathews (Medora), York, and Irene Ivers, Richland, Wash. Services were held Monday from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, with Pastor Dorthea Fairbanks officiating. Interment with flag presentation by the American Legion St. Mihiel Post was in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Helena Nejeschchleb
Helena Danisow Nejeschchleb was born May 9, 1916, in Smolensk, Russia, to Jacob and Vera Danisow. She died in Marantha Manor, Springfield, Mo., on Apr. 9 at the age of 86 years, and 11 months. She was the oldest daughter of five children; three brothers, and one sister. Helena lived on a farm that raised thoroughbreds, wheat, oats, and apple orchards. She had many fond memories of riding horses bareback, helping her father tend to the other animals, and working in the fields. She married Robert Spellman in 1933, and had two children: Valentina and Adolph. Robert died in a tragic drowning accident in 1941. She later married Dimitri Laluk with whom she had twin boys, with Tony the only one surviving. Dimitri was killed in 1945, during World War II, in Italy. However, Helena, her children, and parents had immigrated to West Germany in 1943, where they remained until Feb. 1952. She later married Gabriel Nejeschchleb and they proceeded to leave for America. Helena's parents stayed behind. Helena and her family arrived in Mankato, in Feb. 1952. She cooked and Gabe did maintenance work for Jack Turner for several years. As time passed, Helena worked at the Jewell County Hospital as a cook and kitchen supervisor. She loved her job, the patients, and her co-workers. Helena's hobbies included baking, gardening, visiting with friends over coffee and cake, and taking long walks with the neighborhood ladies. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. In 1998, Helena moved in with her daughter Valentina and son-in-law, James Vaughan. She traveled extensively with them to Canada as well as other states, and took many trips to the Branson shows. Helena was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, and infant son. Helena is survived by: daughter, Valentina Vaughan, Springfield, Mo.; two sons, Adolph Laluk, Superior, Neb., Tony Laluk, Wichita; nine grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Funeral mass was held Apr. 12 at 11 a.m., at St. Theresa's Catholic Church,Mankato, with Father Allen Scheer officiating. Vigil services were held Apr. 11 at 8 p.m. at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato. Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato. Melby Mortuary, Mankato was in charge of arrangements.

Kester Johnson
Kester D. Johnson, 95, the son of Lawrence and ArBelle (Lawson) Johnson was born Aug. 17, 1907, at Waterville, Kan. He died Wednesday, April 9, at the Good Samaritan Center, Superior. He is survived by his wife, Mae Johnson, Superior, sons; Jerry Johnson, Superior and Robert Johnson, Oceanside, Calif.; a sister, Alice Buresh, Lincoln, Neb., and three grandsons. Anna Kathman
Anna F. Kathman, 81, of SilverRidge Assisted Living Community, Gretna, Neb. died April 9. Rosary service was Friday at Butler-Volland Chapel, Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial was in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Neb. Anna F. Kathman was born May 1, 1921 in Winnett, Mont., to Carl and Ada (Byford) Schmidt. She married George A. Kathman on May 19, 1942 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Helena, Mont. They moved to a farm south of Lawrence, where they farmed until their retirement in 1979 and then moved to Hastings. She was member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, Oct. 15, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Virginia Joblonski. Gail Kincheloe
Gail Leon Kincheloe was born June 25, 1939 at the home of his parents, Glen Wilbur and Celia C. Norton Kincheloe, west of Ionia, in Odessa Township, Jewell County. He died Apr. 11 in the Salina Regional Health Center, at the age of 63 years. He attended Ionia elementary school and graduated from Ionia Rural High School in 1957. Gail was inducted in the Army in June 1962, receiving training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Fort Gordon, Ga., and Fort Sill, Okla., before being sent to Karlsrub, Germany. He serve there until May 1964 when he received his honorable discharge. A highlight was a trip with two friends to Paris and on to the Rock of Gibraltar. Gail has had many occupations in his lifetime: farming, employment at Richardsons's Mfg., Cawker City; construction with Kents of Tipton; as a backhoe operator near Ithaca, N.Y. and with Central Colorado Construction Co., managed by Lewis Williams, a good friend. Health conditions forced his retirement from work in 1978. Gail was honest, dependable, cheerful, good natured, lover of nature and animals. He always made sure that his pets, dogs and many cats, were well taken care of. He enjoyed relatives and special friends and spent many hours on the phone to them. He was a mechanic for cars, trucks and tractors. He enjoyed watching the weather and predicting what would happen. He always kept up on the latest news. His hobbies were traveling, Denver Broncos football on TV, listening to daily news and weather, fishing, cooking, crossword puzzles, computer games, music and keeping in touch with family and friends. Gail was preceded in death by grandparents, Floyd and Celeste Stites Kincheloe and Ralph and Louise Haseltine Norton; father, Glen W. Kincheloe and a favorite niece, Anita Louise Slaughter. Survivors include: his mother, Celia Norton Kincheloe, Cawker City; daughter, Lana R. Mabrey, Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.; step-son, Capt. Ronald M. Jones, Mannheim, Germany; sister, Marjorie Slaughter, Laramie, Wyo.; a grandson; four aunts; nieces and nephews. Gail was privileged to have ancestors who fought for and settled in America so he could enjoy membership in the Society of Sons Of the American Republic. Being of English descent he was a direct descendant of twelve Mayflower Pilgrims and had life memberships in the Kansas Pilgrim Descendants Society and in the General Mayflower Society of Plymouth, Mass. Funeral services were held Apr. 15 at United Methodist Church, Ionia, with Pastor Laura Fricker officiating. Honors rendered by American Legion Post #279. Interment in Ionia Cemetery. Arrangements were made by McDonald Roberts Funeral Service.

Grace Walum
Grace LaJune Crooks Walum, 87, the daughter of Vernie H. and Gladys M. (Lewis) Gallop, was born June 16, 1915, on a farm in Boyd County. She died April 8 at the Nelson Good Samaritan Center. She attended Moniwi Grade School and graduated from Lynch High School in 1934. She married Kenneth (Ted) Crooks on Nov. 30, 1935, in Gering, Neb. This union was blessed with three children, Pat, Kenneth and Linda. They lived in Lynch, Neb., until his death in 1965. Grace moved to Kent, Wash., in 1968. She married Elmer Walum in March, 1988. They moved to Nelson in 1992. Grace was a beautician, worked as a receptionist and was a member of the Rebbeka Lodge. She had recently moved to the Nelson Good Samaritan Center. Preceding her in death were her parents her first husband, Ted, on June 22, 1965; second husband, Elmer, on April 26, 1996, and one brother, Wilbur. Survivors include her daughters, Mrs. Duane Ehlers (Pat), and Mrs. Floyd Tucker (Linda), and a son, Kenneth, all of Nelson; four stepchildren all of Seattle, Wash.; eight grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one sister, Babe Baker, Seattle. Services were held Sunday from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ with the Rev. Dr. Ralph Sturdy officiating. Services were also held Monday from the United Methodist Church, Lynch , with Pastor Donna Carpenter officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lynch, Neb. Alexyss Andersen, the infant daughter of Jack Bernal and Amie Andersen, was born at rest Saturday at Lincoln, Neb. Survivors include her parents; grandparents, Cindy Kievernagel, Nelson; Bryan and Rebecca Andersen, Ong; great-grandparents, Gene and Gloria Andersen, Ong, and Floyd and Linda Tucker, Nelson. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m at Klawitter-Price Funeral Home Chapel, Nelson. Pastor David Sellers will officiate. Burial will be in Ong Cemetery.

Iris Cosand
Iris Cosand, 84, died July 2 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney, Neb. She was born to Phila (Marshall) and Clark Calahan on Nov. 16, 1918, at the Calahan farmhouse in Burr Oak. She married George Cosand Jr. on Sept. 5, 1937. She was the clerk of the court in Jewell County from 1954 until 1963. She was active in the Christian Church of Burr Oak and 4-H Club. She donated her time delivering meals for the elderly in the area and volunteering at the hospital. Her hobbies included painting, poetry and crafts. Iris owned and operated the Ye Old Craft Shop, Burr Oak, for almost 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Iris is survived by her children: Gary Cosand, Carol Cosand and Steve Cosand, all of Burr Oak; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Korb, Burr Oak; and a special friend, Richard Canfield, Burr Oak. A memorial celebration of life was held Tuesday at the Christian Church, Burr Oak, with Richard Cox officiating. Inurnment was in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak. Melby Mortuary, Mankato, was in charge of arrangements.

Thelma Echternach
Thelma Ilene Echternach, 87, the daughter of Samuel and Marie (Panzer) Killough, was born June 26, 1916, near Guide Rock. She died Thursday at Crete Area Medical Center, Crete, Neb. She attended school in Guide Rock and worked at the creamery in Superior, babysat for numerous families and cleaned the local doctor's office. She was a member of the Rebecca's and the Superior Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo and doing crossword puzzles and word searches. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Edward Russell and Raymond Echternach; step-son, Ray Echternach; five sisters, Mable Sibert, Esther Bowlin, Pauline Killough and Norma Stearley; and two brothers, Orvil and Kenneth Killough. She is survived by her son, Lathan Russell, Casa Grande, Ariz.; step-sons, Charles and Bob Echternach; step-daughters, Marlys Brown and Bonnie Wissler; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. Services were held Monday at the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel, Superior, with Pastor Leslie Warner officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Joseph Kosmacek
Joseph F. Kosmacek, 81, the son of Frank and Mary (Lukas) Kosmacek was born April 15, 1922, at Spring Ranch. He died Wednesday, July 23, at the Rosebrook Care center, Edgar. He graduated from Antioch School in 1936. He was called into the United States Army in 1942, serving until 1946. While in the army, he attained the rank of technical sergeant. Joe had been stationed at Camp Polk, La., Camp Cooke, California and Fort Knox, Ky. He landed in England with the 11th Armored Division under the command of Gen. George Patton. They fought in France, Belgium and Germany with combat in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. Returning to the States in January, 1946, he lived and farmed near Glenvil until 1991 when ill health changed his plans. Failing health took him to the Rosebrook Care Center for 3 1/2 years. He was a seed corn dealer, school and township board member and an antique tractor collector. He was a member of the Fairfield American Legion for more than 50 years and a member of the Deweese VFW. Survivors include his brothers, Frank, Jansen; Rudy, Marietta, Ga.; and sisters, Agnes Haba, Lawrence, Neb., Mary Witte, Hastings, and Dorothy Kosmacek, Glenvil. Services were held Saturday at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Deweese. Father Dennis Hunt officiated. Burial with military graveside services was in the Blue Hill Cemetery. Williams Funeral Home of Edgar, Neb. was in charge of arrangements.

Pauline Simmelink
Pauline Dorothy Simmelink, 83, Jewell, died July 27 at Beloit. She was born Feb. 12, 1910, at Ionia to Ed and Ida Brinkworth. Pauline married Maurice Simmelink Sept. 10, 1930. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1980. She lived all of her life in Jewell couty, mostly in the Ionia area. She was a member of Ionia United Methodist Church. She was active in church activities, quilting groups and Stitch and Chatter Club. Her hobbies included cooking, especially coconut cream pies, and homemade noodles. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; two brothers, Edgar and Vernon Brinkworth, and a great-grandson, Joshua. Services were yesterday (Wednesday) at Ionia United Methodist Church with Pastors Charles Reed and Jim Rice officiating. Burial was in Ionia Cemetery. Kleppinger Funeral Home, Jewell, was in charge of arrangements.

Archie Tucker
Archie Burman Tucker was born on Aug. 31, 1919, in a farm home northwest of Ionia and departed this life July 24, 2003. He was the fourth of seven children born to Ed and Gladys Tucker. He grew to manhood in his teen years and worked for a number of farmers in the area. In the late 1930s Archie made four annual trips to the State of Washington to work at the J.M. Smucker apple processing plant. Archie was called to serve in the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was assigned to the Army Medical Corp and was stationed at the Kit Carson Army Post in Colorado Springs. Archie received his honorable discharge from the army in 1946. While serving in the army, Archie married Rosella "Rosie" Zadina on Dec. 24, 1942. This marriage was blessed with two sons. After Archie completed his military service, he and Rosie returned to Kansas and engaged in farming on a farm that they rented east of Esbon. In 1949 they purchased their farm home north of Ionia, which they continued to farm until Archie retired in 1984. One of Archie and Rosie's most memorable days was in December 1982 when they celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary at the Ionia School. Rosie passed away after a long illness in 1984. The two years following Rosie's death was a very difficult time for Archie. In 1986 Archie met Gertrude Toner of Wray, Colo., and they were married on Sept. 20. Archie and Gertrude continued to live on the farm for the next five years. They moved to Gertrude's home in Wray in 1991. Archie and Gertrude celebrated their 10th Wedding Anniversary in 1996 by having a reception and dance at the Elk's Lodge in Wray. This was a very special occasion for both of them. The marriages to Rose and Gertrude brought many years of great joy to Archie's life. He was very pleased with how the children from both of these families bonded together. Archie took great interest in the activities and careers of his children and grandchildren. He extended his love for family to include that of his nieces and nephews. His nieces and nephews often recount fond memories of camping trips, wedding dances and past Christmases. Archie enjoyed life to its fullest and tried to see that others around him also enjoyed themselves. During Archie's 83 years of life, he gave many special gifts to friends and family, but none was more special than the Christmas of 1996 when he gave his immediate family copies of a book he wrote titled "My Life's Journey." This book provided his family with many great stories about himself, family members and 75 years of family history. Archie attended the Methodist Churches in Wray and Ionia. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Wray. Those that are left to mourn his passing include his wife, Gertrude; two sons, Johnnie and wife, Sue; Tommie and wife, Geneva; one granddaughter, Carolyn Adams and husband, Eddie; one grandson, Eddie Tucker; and a great-granddaughter, Chailyn Cummings; step-children include Barbara Witte and husband, Dean; Dean Toner and wife, Diana; Judy Bates and husband, Ed; seven step-grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mayme Reinert, Mary Fiene and Ruby Hesting and one brother, Buford Tucker. Preceding Archie in death were his parents; his first wife, Rosie; a sister, Ruth Underwood; a brother, Walt Tucker; a stepson, Dick Toner; and a step-grandson Bill Witte. Funeral services were held at the Ionia United Methodist Church at 10 a.m., July 26, 2003, with the Rev. Thadd Hinkle officiating with burial in the Ionia Cemetery. Casket bearers were Eddie Hall, Burl Hall, Danny Simmelink, John Zadina, Matt Hesting and Eddie Tucker; honorary pallbearers were Bud Zadina, Leon Falk and Dewey Underwood. Music was furnished by Thadd Hinkle, accompanied by Ann Colson.

Raymond Balty
Raymond M. Balty, 91, Rock Island, Ill., formerly of Jewell County, died Sept. 27 in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Services were at 2 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, Ill. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at Melby Mortuary, Mankato, with graveside services at 11:30 a.m., in Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak.

Fred Comer
Fredrick Edward Comer, 67, the son of Fredrick Eugene and Lena Mae (Young) Comer, was born Sept. 15, 1936, at Anderson, Ind. He died Sept. 23, at his home in Superior. One of four children, he graduated from Yorktown High School, Yorktown, Ind., on May 9, 1955. He married Arlene Ruth Deterding on Sept. 1, 1957, at Deshler. This union was blessed with a daughter, Terri. He served in the United States Air Force as a small arms instructor, and was honorably discharged in 1968. He was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. After the Air Force he managed the Texas International Gun Club at San Antonio. In Oklahoma City he managed a gun club that held live pigeon and trap/skeet shoots. In Superior he worked at Red Ehlers Service Station. He moved to North Platte in 1975 and began counseling with Alcoholics Anonymous and to control his alcohol addiction. He then became an AA counselor in North Platte, and later moved to Oxnard, Calif., and continued in AA counseling with the Pasadena Police Department. He returned to Superior in 1998 where he resided until his death. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Bill. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Carl Suchsland (Terri), Superior; two granddaughters, Mrs. Tim Shaw (Elizabeth), Omaha; and Dawn Suchsland, Kearney; two sisters, Mrs. Dick Delong (Beverly), Indiana; and Mrs. Ron Carr, (Dowana), Coweta, Okla. Services were held Saturday from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, with Pastor Mark Diehl officiating. Interment with full military rites by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard was in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak.

Inez Flinn
Inez Crystal Flinn, 88, a resident of The Dalles, Ore., died at a local care facility Sept. 15, 2003. She was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Jewell County Kansas, the youngest of eight children to William and Laura (Rogers) Ritter. She grew up and graduated from high school in Esbon, Kan. She attended teacher's college at Fort Hays State College in Hays, Kan., then taught in a one-room school in Kansas. She married Bill Kniesteadt on May 26, 1936, in Mankato, Kan., and they moved to The Dalles in 1947. She worked with her husband at the Liberty Club until they started Bill's Coney Island Diner on the West End of town. She was a substitute teacher for schools in Wasco County for many years and was a police matron for five years in the late 1960s. She later worked as a full time reading teacher for Mosier Schools. After her retirement she worked part-time at the Wasco County - The Dalles Library until age 85. She was an auxiliary member of the American Legion, Eagles and Moose Lodge and was past president of the Emblem Club. She enjoyed her family, bingo and playing cards. Inez is survived by her son, Jake Kniesteadt and his wife, Pam, Gervais; her daughters, Martha Kniesteadt and her husband, Ernie Kingsbury, Bend; and Elaine Kniesteadt, Castle Rock, Colo.; six grandchildren, Jenny, Katie, Lisa, Joe, Dana and Jeff; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Gabriella and close friend, Arlene Wilkinson, The Dalles. A celebration of life with Moose rites was held at The Dalles Moose Lodge Sept. 27. Private interment was at The Dalles IOOF Cemetery with Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Daryl Haegert
Daryl L. Haegert, 68, Garnett, died Sept. 17 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 7, 1934, in Esbon, to A.O. Haegert and Ethel Noreen Sloan Haegert. He grew up in Lebanon, graduating from Lebanon High school in 1952. He received a bachelor's degree from Kansas State University in 1956 a master's degree in 1963. He received his doctorate from the University of Kansas in 1971. He was a teacher, principal and superintendent at various schools in Kansas from 1957 until he retired in 1992, at which time he moved to Garnett. Daryl married JoAnne Rundell at Manhattan Sept. 3, 1955. He was preceded in death by his parents. Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Dirk Haegert, Emporia, and Darin Haegert, Torrance, Calif.; daughter, Jo Green, Roeland Park; brother, Daniel Haegert, Esbon; and three grandchildren. Services were at First United Methodist Church, Garnett, with the Rev. Gale E. Mack officiating. Burial was at Sweet Home Cemetery, Lebanon.

Jack Haskins
Jack J. Haskins, 69, Winsted, Conn., died Sept. 25 at home. He was born Sept. 1, 1934, in Formoso, the son of the late Mable (Greenberg) and Joel Haskins. He grew up in Kansas and attended local schools before graduating from Emporia State Teacher's College. Local survivor is his uncle, George Greenberg, Mankato. Other survivors are his wife of 37 years, Sheila (Mooney) Haskins, a daughter, Astrid (Haskins) Robitaille and a granddaughter. He was predeceased by a son, Joel E. Haskins. He was employed in the insurance industry, retiring from American States Insurance Company in 1996. He was a member of Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club and Church of Christ.

Larry McCord
Larry Dale McCord, 61, the son of Russell Dale and Viola (Moffitt) McCord, was born Dec. 17, 1941, at Odell. He died Sunday at Brodstone Memorial Hospital, Superior. He attended elementary school in Superior and graduated from Superior High School with the Class of 1961. He graduated from Kearney State Teacher's College with a bachelor's degree in teaching and business. He enlisted with the United States Navy on Feb. 24, 1966, and was honorably discharged on Aug. 10, 1971. On June 18, 1972 he married Patricia Anne Eagleton in Superior. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion St. Mihiel Post and member of the Nuckolls County fairboard, Nuckolls County Museum Board, Nuckolls County Historical Society, V.F.W., Elks Lodge, Eagles Club, Superior Country Club, Superior Ambassadors, First United Methodist Church for 20 years, American Draft Horse Association, member and past president of the Nebraska Retail Grocers Association and was presented an honorary admiralship in the Nebraska Navy by Gov. Mike Johanns. Preceding him in death was his father, Russell, on Sept. 9, 1996. Survivors include his wife, Pat, Superior; daughter, Mrs. Scott Peterson (Cassidy), Waterford, Mich.; son, Shannon, his mother, Viola, both of Superior; and a sister, Mrs. Wylie Jensen (Janice), Superior. Services were held Wednesday from the First United Methodist Church in Superior, with Pastors Dorthea Fairbanks and Mark Diehl officiating. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery with full military rites. Megrue-Price Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Moralez
Barbara L. Moralez, 54, Denver, died Sept. 16. The daughter of Herbert Ross and Carol Brindle Ross Johnson, was born near Formoso, March 17, 1949. She graduated from Mankato High School with the Class of 1967. She was preceded in death by her father, Herbert Ross, and a grandnephew, Ryan. Survivors include her husband, Richard Moralez, Denver; mother, Carol Johnson, Courtland, two sisters, Laura Ross, Denver, and Pat Nielander, Belleville; and her step-mother, Charlotte Pounds, Shawnee.

Lenora Reinke
Lenora R. Reinke, 90, formerly of Gooding, Idaho, died Sept. 5, in Twin Falls, Idaho. She was born Dec. 25, 1912, in Byron, to Herman and Guistine Peters. She married Martin H. Reinke, Clover, Idaho, on Jan. 17, 1937, at St. Peters in Byron. They returned to Idaho to farm at various locations in Magic Valley. They retired to Gooding, Idaho. Her husband preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1994. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Gooding, Idaho. She is survived by her three children, Mrs. Kenneth Smith (Donnetta), Twin Falls; Mrs. Robert Reinke (Ardella), Gooding and Mrs Steven Lewis ( Donna), Boise, Idaho; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Adella Gebers, Nora; two sisters-in-law, Theresa Peters, Superior; and Martha Goltermann, Hamlin, N.Y.; one brother-in-law, Walter Reinke Gooding, Idaho; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held Sept. 10 at the Elmwood Cemetery, in Gooding; with Pastor Byron Sunderman of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Kimberly, Idaho, officiating. A memorial service followed at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Gooding.

Clarence Simmons
Clarence Junior Simmons, 66, the son of Clarence E. and Helen A. (Stephens) Simmons, was born Feb. 23, 1937, at Mankato. He died Thursday at Brodstone Memorial Hospital, Superior. Raised on a farm west of Burr Oak, he attended school in Burr Oak. He enlisted in the United States Navy on March 14, 1958, and was honorably discharged June 28, 1963. He married Alma Joann Vader March 18, 1977, at Smith Center. He was a truck driver for George Brothers Trucking, Sutton. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Don Simmons. Survivors include his wife, Joann, Nelson, his children, Vickie Simmons, Fay Simmons, Tina Simmons, Ronald Simmons and Sam Simmons, all of California; Julie Weber, Nelson; Jennifer Simmons, Guide Rock; Jeff Vader, Nelson; Treva Shotts, Superior; and Randy Vader, Profit Point, Texas; brothers and sisters, Paul Simmons, Porterville, Calif.; Calvin Simmons, Amarillo, Texas; Mrs. Bruce McCullough (Margaret), Superior; Martha Smith, Hastings; Ila Rohla, Mankato; Sharon Brown, Hastings; Mrs. Terry Vincent (Carol), Las Vegas, Nev., and Betty Gonzela, St. Petersberg, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Daniel Trickey
Daniel Rawlins Trickey died unexpectedly Sept. 22, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kan. Born April 14, 1952, in Fort Riley, Kan., he was the son of Ralph Elwood Trickey and Marion Louise Lesher. He graduated from Denver West High School in 1970. On January 24, 1974 he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and began a lifelong walk in the Glory of God. He began working in the printing industry at age 13 and after graduation, he continued in that occupation. On May 7, 1976, he married Christine Kay Hancock in Denver. To this union were born two children, Elizabeth Ann and Paul Daniel. Daniel's career took him to Hays in 1978 where he began working for Printcraft Printers. He and Christine also established a wedding and portrait photography business in Hays. In 1989 the Lord led Daniel and Christine to Great Bend where he continued his occupation in the printing industry. In 1991 he transitioned into ministries of benevolence which grew into the Lasting Life Ministries and the Hungry Heart Soup Kitchen in 1996. In 1991 he also became a minister in the Crossroads Foursquare Community Church in Hoisington. Two years later he was appointed senior pastor of this congregation where he served until his death. Daniel believed in reaching out to everyone to bring the message of the Lord's goodness and glory. This belief was put into action in his daily management and hands-on work at the Hungry Heart Soup Kitchen At the time of his death he also served as manager of Lasting Life Ministries. In addition, he was treasurer for the Hoisington Ministerial Alliance and was an active member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, desktop publishing, computer graphics and was a devoted fan of the Denver Broncos. Daniel's love for his family was only overshadowed by his love for Christ. He was a dedicated husband and father who served as a partner to Christine in all aspects of their home life and parenting. He knew he was blessed by his family and did not hide his joy in them. Daniel also developed a special relationship with Christine's parents and sisters and they thought of him as a son and brother. Daniel was a servant and faithful friend to all and he touched hundreds of lives in his short 51 years. All were better people for having known him and by following his example. But foremost, he was a slave to the ambition of the Lord Jesus Christ. Besides his wife of Great Bend, survivors include daughter Elizabeth and husband, Mike Schneiweis, and their children Curtis Michael and Cierra Dawn, Great Bend; a son Paul, of the home; his father Ralph, Denver; three sisters-in-law and their husbands; a niece and two nephews, many cousins and a host of loving friends. He was preceded in death by his mother in 2001, a brother, Marcus Ralph in 1994, and an infant brother Glenn Everett. Services were Thursday at First Assembly of God Church, Great Bend. Officiating were Pastor Loren Houltberg, Pastor Mike Strosnider and Pastor Mike Joiner. A graveside ceremony and interment were at Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Jewell County. Clarence Wilton
Clarence Roscoe Wilton, 98, the son of Clarence and Addie (Hayes) Wilton, was born May 18, 1905, north of Bostwick. He died Saturday at Brodstone Memorial Hospital, Superior. He attended the Bostwick school. On March 14, 1931, he married Ila Belle Rogers. They made their home near Bostwick and raised four children. C. R. "Whitey" as he was known, farmed in the Bostwick area until 2001. He was a lifetime member of the Nebraska Farmer's Union. He enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant daughter, Shirley Ann, seven brothers, Edwin, Levi, Rex, Charles, Saul, James B., and Cyrus; and four sisters, Gail, Minnie, Jennie and Margaret; and a grandchild. Survivors include his wife, Ila, Superior; four children, Harold, Superior, Gilbert, Denver, Mrs. Dewayne Barleen (Colleen), St. Paul; and Roger, Superior; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Services were held Wednesday,, from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, with Pastors Leslie Warner and David Watters officiating. Interment was in the Bostwick Cemetery.

Robert Wright
Robert Wright, 74, son of William Merrill Wright and Leslie (McCorkle) Wright died June 15, 2003, in Riverside, Calif. He was cremated. His remains were interred Sept. 29 in Evergreen Cemetery, Superior. Survivors include a niece, Jane Eno, Lincoln and a nephew, Neil Trabert, Jr.

Carolyn Adams
Carolyn Fay Adams, 59, the daughter of Richard and Wilda (Smith), Gelvin, was born Jan. 29, 1944, at Mound City, Mo. She died Friday at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital, Superior. Carolyn Grew up and attended school in Omaha. On May 20, 1961, she married James H. Adams, at Papillion, Neb. To this union were born four daughters. Together Carolyn and James lived in Lexington, Neb. for 31 years before moving to Superior in 1997. She was a member of the Living Faith Fellowship Church in Superior. Carolyn was a cat lady, and could never turn a stray away. She had a love for hard work and landscaped her yard with three ponds, numerous flower and plants. During the last two years she and James delivered the Omaha World-Herald in the area. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Sandy Baker, one brother, Richard; and a sister, Donna Durand. Survivors include her husband of Superior; daughters, Mrs. Keith Moody (Angie), Superior, Mrs. Bobby Rippey (Ronda), Jewell, and Sharla Wattier, Superior; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Christie Gelvin and Lachele Myers, Superior. A memorial service was at 1 p.m., Wednesday at the Living Faith Fellowship Church, with the Rev. Patsy Busey officiating. Interment was in the Washington Cemetery, south of Byron. Jenny Barnett
Jenny A. Barnett, 34, Hays, died last Wednesday, at the Kansas University Medical Center. She was born Sept. 30, 1969, in Concordia, the daughter of Gene and Ann (Jeppesen) Barnett. She was a graduate of Concordia High School and attended Cloud County Community College and Fort Hays State University. She moved from Concordia to Hays in 1990. She was an employee of Central Plains Lab for 11 years and was a member and Sunday School teacher of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hays. She is survived by her parents, Gene and Ann Barnett, Concordia; one brother, Darrell Barnett, Concordia; one sister, Linda Conyac, Stockton; two nephews and two nieces. Services were held Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hays. Graveside committal services were at the Kopsa Cemetery, Cuba.

Crystal Bennor
A funeral for Crystal Bennor, 85, Gillette, Wyo., was held Tuesday at the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery Shelter, Gillette, Wyo., with Pastor Gordon Harper of the Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church of Gillette officiating. Interment followed at the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. She died Friday at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital. Crystal Larene Bennor was born April 27, 1918 to Clarence Arlington and Alice Marie (Long) Edson in Northport, Neb. She was the youngest of five children born to this union. When Crystal was two years old, the family moved to Rogers, Ark., for a short time. In 1922, the family moved to Lincoln, Neb. While in Lincoln, Crystal started school. In 1924, the family moved to a farm in Bostwick. Crystal attended school at Bostwick through the 10th grade. Her junior and senior years of high school were accomplished at Superior High School, from which she graduated in 1935. Following high school graduation, Crystal took one year of normal school training and then taught school for one year. On April 18, 1936, Crystal married Leland Walter (Curly) Burge at Mankato. Curly and Crystal established a home in Bostwick. Curly worked for Ideal Cement for 35 years prior to his death in 1974. While in Bostwick, a son, Donald Dee was born. In 1938, the family moved to Superior and in 1940 a daughter, Catherine Larene, was born. The Burge family was active in First Baptist Church, Superior. Crystal taught Sunday school, was the church pianist and organist, served on various boards and committees, and both Leland and Crystal were youth leaders. Following Curly's death in 1974, Crystal moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., to be near her daughter. In 1979, She married Chris Houtwed and moved to Ruskin. Chris died following a move in 1984 to Superior. Crystal moved to Gillette, Wyo., in 1987, to again be near her daughter. In 1991, Crystal married Ellis Bennor. Crystal and Ellis were active in Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Gillette and the Senior Center. Crystal's deteriorating health kept her more and more confined the last two years. She died stay active by phone and e-mail with her church family, friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands; and four siblings. She is survived by her husband; her son, Don Burge, St. Peters, Mo.; her daughter, Mrs. Gordon Harper (Catherine), Gillette, Wyo.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

JoAnne Howard
JoAnne Lynne Howard, 38, Hastings, died Thursday at Mary Lanning Hospital after a short battle with cancer. Services were Monday at the brand-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating. Burial was in the Red Cloud Cemetery. The daughter of Joseph E. and Kathleen (Goos) Howard, she was born Dec. 22, 1964, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Neb. The family moved to Mankato when she was three months old. She attended school there through the seven the grade. In 1978 she and her mother moved back to Hastings. She was a 1983 graduate of the Hastings Senior High School and a 1991 graduate from Central Community College, Hastings, with an associate's degree in accounting. In recent years she worked at several local convenience stores. She also was a member of the Citizens' Police Academy Association in Hastings and the Eagles Auxiliary. She is survived by her mother, Kathleen, Hastings; two sisters, Arlene, Lincoln, and Kimberly, Arkansas; one brother, Clay, Arkansas; and grandmother, Gertrude Howard, Hastings. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jake and Fern Goos.

Virginia Miller
Virginia Alice Miller, 86, the daughter of Eugene and Ella (Walker) Myrick, was born Nov. 8, 1917, at Michigan City, Ind. She died Saturday at Perkins Pavillion, Hastings. She married William Miller on April 15, 1940, at DeSoto, Mo. She lived in DeSoto where William (Bob) was from until moving to Superior and then later Hastings where she lived until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Jennie Worley and Louise Black Bonnet; and one brother, Morgan Myrick. She is survived by her son, Pressley Miller, Kansas City; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two brothers, George Myrick, Thousands Palms, Calif.; and William Myrick, San Diego, Calif. Graveside services were held Tuesday at the Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, with Pastor Dorthea Fairbanks, officiating. Megrue-Price Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Elaine Roper
Elaine I. (Hansen) Roper, 70, Davey, died Nov. 6. She was born in Superior on Sept. 29, 1933. She was the daughter of E. A. and Emma (Mikkelsen) Hansen. She graduated from Hardy High School, attended Kearney State Teachers College and taught for two years at Weimer Rural School. On 1954, she married Harold E. Roper in Hardy and moved to Ogden, Utah. They returned to Lincoln in 1955. She attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She worked as a PBX operator, receptionist and in the trust department at Union Bank & Trust Co. After their retirements, she and Harold raised llamas on their acreage outside of Lincoln. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, traveling and time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Lincoln for 47 years and served on the church council and various committees and was active in the Lydia and Esther circles. Survivors include her husband; a son, Steve, Ann Arbor, Mich.; daughter, Mrs. Larry Bragg (Suzy), Kearney; five grandchildren; and a brother, LeRoy Hansen, Hardy. Services were Nov. 10 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. Pastor Lowell Hennigs, officiated. Burial was in Lincoln Memorial Park.

Nita Roth
Nita Rose Roth, 71, the daughter of Joseph and Hazel (Black) Bartcher, was born April 12, 1932, on a farm near Lebanon. She died Friday at her home in Edgar. She attended rural schools near Lebanon and graduated from Red Cloud High School. She worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot near Hastings. On April 13, 1955, she married Wayne "Buzz" Roth. They lived in Colorado Springs for 15 years until Buzz's retirement. Nita and Buzz then moved to Fairfield, in 1970 and to Edgar in 1993. She also worked for Leveage tools and had been employed at the Nelson Good Samaritan Center in Nelson, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Oct. 19, 1996; two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her son, Randy, Edgar; sisters, Bonnie Bartcher, Kansas City, Mo, and Delores Noller, Hebron; and five grandsons. Graveside services were held this Tuesday at the Edgar Cemetery. Pastor David King officiated. Williams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lynette Trujillo
Lynette Jeanne Trujillo, 54, died Nov. 20 at her home in Beloit. She had cancer. She was born April 23, 1949, to Robert Blaine and Betty Ola Lienberger St. John at Beloit. Lynette graduated from Fairfield High school in Fairfield, Neb. She moved to Boulder, Colo. in 1968 and became a hair stylist, working in various beauty salons and assisting area funeral homes with hair styling. In May 2002 she moved to Beloit. She married Mike Miller. They had two children. The marriage was dissolved. Nov. 14, 2003, she married her longtime friend and caregiver, Danny Trujillo. Before her illness her hobbies playing golf, bowling and craft projects. Lynette is survived by her husband, Danny, of the home; parents, Robert and Betty St. John, Randall; children Blaine Miller, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Mrs. Brenden Mannell (Brenna), Des Moines, Iowa; brothers, Steve St. John, Hastings, Neb., Randy St. John, Lincoln, Neb.; Tony St. John, Salina; Shannon St. John, Beloit; a sister, Bonnie Wach, Hastings, Neb.; and a grandchild. Throughout her life she made many close friends including Mike Murphy, Lafayette, Colo. Services were Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. at McDonald Funeral Home, Beloit, with Father Henry Baxa officiating. Interment of cremains was in Randall Cemetery, Randall. McDonald-Roberts Funeral Service, Beloit, were in charge of arrangements.

Edith Adamson
Edith M. Adamson, 89, daughter of John and Annie (Kehrs) Adamson, was born Sept. 26, 1914 at Chester. She died March 22, at Pikes Peak Care Center, Colorado Springs, Colo. Edith graduated from Chester High School. She then attended Colorado College, Colorado Springs, graduating in 1940. She taught school in the Colorado Springs area until her retirement in 1977. She was a member of the Alpha Beta Kappa Sorority, and the District 11 Sorority. She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth; and three sisters,, Viola, Jessie and Evelyn. Survivors include a sister, Wilma Orr, Lincoln, Neb., two nephews and four nieces. Graveside services were held Saturday at the Chester Cemetery. Interment followed. Services were under the direction of the Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart-Surber Funeral Home, Chester.

Elwin Lamb
Elwin Boyd Lamb, 79, died March 23 at Medicalodge, Clay Center, Kan. He was born June 2, 1924, in Jewell County, son of Rufus and Mayme (Gutscher) Lamb. He married Celia Fox June 11, 1950. Elwin, Celia and family resided in Burr Oak before moving to Clay Center. He was a mechanic for the Kansas Department of Transportation and also farmed and did radio and television repair. Survivors besides his wife of Clay Center are two daughters, Mrs. Gailen Tyrell (Mitzi), Wakefield, Mrs. Gary Kearn (Melodie), Clay Center; two sisters, Doris Rogers, Abilene, and Marie Marshall, Superior; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son Michael, an infant daughter, Machelle, and a sister. Funeral services were March 27 at the Wesleyan Church, Clay Center, with Pastor Wayne Sams and Pastor David Redman officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center. Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, Clay Center, was in charge of arrangements.

Frances Stradley
Frances M. Stradley, 90, daughter of Calvin C. and Lucy May (Ferguson), Dake was born Nov. 27, 1913, at Hastings. She died Saturday at the Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home, Hebron. Frances attended the Lowland Rural School and graduated from the Chester High School in 1931. She attended Peru Teachers College after which she taught rural school in Thayer County for three years. On May 27,1934, she married Clinton M. Carpenter. To this union two sons were born, Lindon Clarence and Lester Wayne. They made their home in Osceola, Iowa. Mr. Carpenter died in 1943. On July 26, 1950, she married Harry Stradley. To this union one son was born, Carl Leroy. The married couple made their home in Hubbell. He died Feb. 14, 1996. Frances attended the Hubbell United Methodist Church and was church pianist for 40 years. She also enjoyed singing old hymns, helping friends, family and neighbors, making rag rugs and quilts and mowing the yard and teaching and playing the piano. Frances wrote the Hubbell News for the Chester, Hebron, Chester and Belleville papers for many years and also was a member of the Hubbell Board of Education. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lester Carpenter in 1948, brothers, Adrian Dake in 1993 and Kenneth Dake in 1987; and her husbands, Clinton M. Carpenter and Harry Stradley, two granddaughters, one grandson, a step-daughter in-law and step son-in-law. She is survived by two sons, Lindon Carpenter and Carl Stradley, of Hubbell; step-daughter, Mrs. Virgil Werner, Hubbell, step-son, Leo Stradley, Whittier, Calif.; one sister, Martha Agee, Wheatridge, Colo., seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Services will be 11:30 a.m., Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Chester. Pastors Eldon and Mary Beth Nicholson will officiate. Friends may call at the Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Kan. from 9 a .m. until 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Interment will be in Hubbell Cemetery.

Brandy Wilton
Former Superior resident, Brandy Michael Wilton, 36, the son of Richard and Sharon (Moran) Wilton, was born Dec. 26, 1967, at Superior. He died Friday, March 26, at Monarch Hospice House, Lincoln, Neb., after a four year battle with cancer. He graduated from Superior High School in 1986. Following graduation he served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Acadia. He was recruit petty officer. Feb. 14, 1992, he married Tracie Mendenall in Superior. They were divorced in 2002. Brandy was a broadcaster at KRFS, Superior; KEGS, Emporia, and KHLS, Wichita. He was employed by A-1 Fiberglass and later at Swift-Echrich in Hastings until illness forced him to quit. He was a member of the Capitol City Christian Church, Lincoln. Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Daniel Fullerton (Brooklyn) Lincoln, and Becka Whatley, Hastings; nephew and niece, Nicholas and Alaina Fullerton, Lincoln; grandparents, Chester and Eleanor Moran and Ralph and Esther Wilton, Superior. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Arthur and Stena Moran and Marie Wortman. Services were held March 30, from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, with Pastors Ken Fairbrother and Jim Stark officiating. Pallbearers were Michael Hager, Brian Diehl, Dave Wilton, Terry Ground, Travis Renken, Ron Ahrens, Tony Akasmit and Tony Martin. Honorary Pallbearers were Elmer Striker, Pat Avey, Mike Fausch and Bill Rogers. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery with full military rites.

Ervin Windhorst
Ervin John Windhorst, 91, the son of Henry and Verbena (Hofts) Windhorst, was born on a farm near Byron, Oct. 22, 1912. He died March 25 at Parkview Haven, Deshler. He was one of six children born to his parents. He attended Riber School District 91 and Ruskin High School. He married Agnes Daisy Ocobock July 19, 1935, at the United Brethern Church, Republic. This union was blessed with two children, Darlene Irene and Darrell Lee. In younger days Ervin helped on the family farm and later worked as a broom winder at the Deshler Broom Factory. The family moved to Wichita, in 1940 where Ervin worked at Boening Aircraft for five years. In 1947 he moved his family back to Deshler, where Ervin was employed by Galmore Construction for some time. In 1955 he went to work for Richard Reinke as plant superintendent at Reinke Manufacturing, Inc. He retired from Reinke Manufacturing in April, 1981. Ervin enjoyed playing baseball, traveling and watching sporting events on television. Ervin and Agnes enjoyed doing to dances. He was a past member of the Lion's Club, a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Deshler, where he served on the church council and was an usher. He was admitted to Parkview Haven Nursing home July 31, 2000. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Agnes on Nov. 24, 1997; daughter, Darlene (Fintel) Heckenlively; one brother, Elmer, two sisters, Esther Lipker and Freda Anderson and one son-in-law, Harold Fintel. He is survived by his son, Darrell Windhorst, Stromsburg; and seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eldon Windhorst, Hebron, and Roy Windhorst, Deshler. Services were held Monday at Peace Lutheran Church, Deshler, with the Rev. Phillip Nielsen officiating. Interment was in the Deshler City Cemetery. Ahrendts Funeral Home, Deshler, was in charge of arrangements.

JoAnn Winn
Former area resident, JoAnn Elaine (Chapman) Winn, 53, of Twin Falls, Idaho, died March 21, in Paul, Idaho, as a result of an automobile accident. Services were Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rupert, Idaho, with the Rev. David Poovey officiating. Burial was in Paul Cemetery. Mrs. Winn was born Feb. 12, 1951, to Ralph and Dorothy Chapman, in Superior. She graduated from Clay Center High School in 1970 and later from beauty school. She then became a licensed practical nurse. On June 1, 1985, she married Jim Winn. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Rupert, Idaho. Survivors are her husband; one son, Jason, Paul, Idaho; her mother of Twin Falls; three brothers, Ron, Fairfield, Idaho; Richard, Mesquite, Nev., and Mike, Twin Falls, seven sisters, Pat Shadduck, Superior, Sunny Dick, Pasco, Wash.; Linda Fiscus, Twin Falls, Judy Karson, Medford, Ore.; Debbie Molar, Alda, Idaho; Becky Brown, Wichita, and Jean Jackson, Hastings. Dennis Biltoft
Dennis Lorren Biltoft, 60, died, May 14 in Birmingham, Ala., after a short battle with cancer. Following graduation from Ruskin High School in `1962, he graduated from aircraft mechanical school. He then joined the Air Force, served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Helen biltoft, and a step son, Billy. Survivors include his wife, Clara, Birmingham; daughter, Mrs. Buster James (Cynthia), Pinson, Ala.; and step daughters, Patricia Shepherd and Karen Howton, Birmingham; sister Mrs. Gary Lindstrom (Donna), brothers, Ray Biltoft, Hardy; Darrell Biltoft, Nora; three grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. Services were held May 18 in Birmingham. Burial, with military honors, was at the Baptist Church Cemetery, Double Springs.

Vernis Davis
Vernis Virgil (Vernie) Davis, 77, died May 20 at Smith County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center. He was born April 3, 1927, in Benkelman, Neb., the son of Joseph Oscar Davis and Eva Magnetta (Kenney) Davis, better known as Sam and Maggie Davis. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Army. He served during World War II and was stationed in Japan during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He received the Asiatic Pacific Champion Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and an Army Occupation Medal. He left the military with an honorable discharge on Oct. 17, 1946. Vernis married Joelene Mae Hayward at Phillipsburg July 2, 1954. They resided in Lebanon most of their married life. He was employed by Abbots Dairy, Kenney Bock Construction, Bell Telephone and retired after 20 years at Mini-Max Provisions of Smith Center. His hobbies included camping and fishing and coyote hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Hollis, Arden, Delmer and Dean and a sister, Irma Burgess. Survivors besides his wife include two daughters, Mrs. Barry Hunt (Debbie), Lebanon; Pam Davis and friend, Erika Tedder, Smith Center; son, Vernie Davis, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and two grandsons. Vernis requested cremation with no public viewing or service. A private family service will be held at a later date and inurnment will be in the Home Sweet Home Cemetery, Lebanon. Monday Vernis was honored with the presentation of the flag to his wife, Joelene Davis, at her home. Melby Mortuary, Mankato, was in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Fogo
Lillian H. Fogo, 93, died May 21 at her home in Esbon. She was born Aug. 10, 1910, in Esbon, the daughter of John and Mary H. (Votova) Hajny. She graduated from Esbon High school and married Frank Fogo, Burr Oak. They moved to Tillamook, Ore., where Frank was killed in a logging accident. Lillian returned to Esbon with three small children: Doris, Rosemary and Donald. One son, Dale, is buried in Tillamook Ore. She worked for the Esbon School District for many years. E.M. Griffitts
E.M. (Merle) Griffitts, 99, died May 18 at Hilltop Lodge Nursing Home, Beloit. Mr. Griffitts was born May 8, 1905, in Erie, the son of Wesley Virgil Griffitts and Anna Carolina-Willomina (Samp). He attended school at Lovewell and graduated from Sinclair Rural High School in 1924 with 12 years of perfect attendance. He graduated from Concordia Business College and worked with his father for many years in the grocery business. He was the custodian for the Randall Schools until his retirement in 1975. He married Fern Solomon on Nov. 23, 1937, in Concordia. He was a member of Randall Community Church, Randall. Survivors include two daughters, E. June Kaspar, Independence, and Mona Wengler, Wichita; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Merle was preceded in death by his wife and a daughter, Joanne Monk, and his parents. Funeral services were held at Randall Community Church, Randall, May 21 with Pastor Dan Daniels officiating. Burial was in Randall Cemetery. Patsy Jennings
Patsy Lee Jennings, 68, the daughter of Donald Dwight and Freida Abilgail (Davidson), Abernathy, was born June 24, 1934, at Casper, Wyo. She died May 22 at her home in Guide Rock. She graduated from the Glenrock, Wyo., high school with the class of 1952. She was employed for a time as a secretary with the Tri-Good & True Oil Company in Wyoming. She later managed a bar in Jefferson City, Mo.; she owned and operated a restaurant in Warsaw, Mo., and also was a union cement finisher in Phoenix, Ariz. On May 20, 1967, she married John Allen Jennings, at Las Vegas; In 1984 they moved to Guide Rock to make their home where she was vice-president of Albernathy, Inc., raising greyhounds. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, John on March 17, 1998, a son, Brian K. Jennings; and a sister, Elsie M. Cantrell. Survivors include her daughter, Lori Fry, Wichita; sons, David Abernathy, Buckeye, Ariz.; and Danny Jennings, Louisburg, Kan.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Donald T. Abernathy, Lander, Wyo..; and James C. Abernathy, Sarasota, Fla. Graveside services were held Saturday from the Guide Rock Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Fairbanks of the Guide Rock United Methodist Church officiating. The Simonson-Williams Funeral Home of Red Cloud was in charge of arrangements.

Waldine Jones
Waldine (Dean) LeRoy Jones, 82, the son of Archie and Myrtle (Nichols0 Jones was born April 9, 1922, at his parents home northeast of Nora. He died May 16 at the Good Samaritan Center, Nelson. He graduated from Nora High School. He married Doris Leslie Aug. 18, 1946. This union was blessed with three sons. He married June Dewsinberry in 1975. On Feb. 19, 1984, he married Patricia Macdonald. Dean lived and farmed his entire life near Nora. He was a member of the Nora United Methodist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Boyd Jones, and one sister, Winifred Shipherd. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; sons, Phillip (Bud) Jones and Frank Jones, all of Nora; and Craig Jones, Beatrice; step-children, Mrs. Roger Oberle (Holly) and Todd Steller, Lincoln, Neb.; Mrs. John Failla (Whitney), Chatham, N. J.; Mrs. Mike Nordeen (Lauren), Wheatland, Wyo.; and Mrs. Gary Lindan (Kathy), Cimarron; four grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Archie Neighbors
Archie Ray Neighbors, 72, the son of Archie and Myrtle (Gilbraith) Neighbors, was born March 8, 1931, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He died May 20 at the Rose Brook Care Center, Edgar. Raised in the Oakland, Iowa, area. He worked for Pete's Grain in Council Bluffs and served in the United States Marines. In October, 1955, he married Loraine Thomas. They moved to Fairfield in 1982 and settled in Edgar in 1983. He had been at Rose Brook Skilled Services since May 18, 2003. He and Loraine managed "Neighbors Kitchen" in Edgar for two years. Ray wrote songs and poems, never knew a stranger and remembered each of his new friends by name. He attended the Edgar Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Loraine, Edgar; daughter, Mrs. Duane McCauley (Susan), and Mrs. Clark Stertz (Debra) both of Edgar; Tiena Neighbors, Lincoln, Neb.; brother, Charles Fred Neighbors, Council Bluffs, Iowa; seven granddaughters and two grandsons. Services were held Tuesday at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel, Edgar. pastor David King officiated.

Arlyn Deen Ray
Arlyn Deen Ray, 48, died May 6 in Wichita. He was born July 28, 1956, in Wichita to Marvaline J. Bannon, Haysville, and the late Robert Gibson. He graduated from Campus High School in 1973 and Butler County Community College in 1976 with an associate of arts degree in journalism. He was a plumber, working for the family business, the Haysville School District and was a member of Haysville Plumbing Board. He was an active member in the Teacher's Union IAM Local No. 639. At the time of his death he was attending Wichita State University, working for a master's degree in social services. Arlyn married Stacy (Means) Leazer on June 29, 1996. He was a member of the British Car Club, Paul McCartney Fan Club and the Star Trek Federation Club. Besides his wife, he is survived by stepchildren, Auzia and Geoff Leazer; his mother, Marvaline Ray, Haysville; brothers, Robin, Wichita; Terrill, Alexandria, Va.; and a sister, Marcy Ray, Wichita.

Kenneth Simms
Kenneth Arthur Simms, 85, youngest child of Clarence B. and Edith (Leeding) Simms, was born Sept. 1, 1917, at Republic. He died Wednesday, May 21, at the Republic County Hospital, Belleville. He graduated from Republic High School and attended Kansas State University for one year. On Dec. 26, 1940, he married Josephine Hofts at Washington, Kan. To this union four children, Douglas, Roger, Bryan and Jennifer were born. He farmed the family homestead for 65 years. He was a member of the Republic Methodist Church, served on the Republic School Board was active in the high school alumni association, and was a livestock leader for the 4-H clubs. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Roger in 1997; his sister, Arlene Shannon; and his brothers Earl and Gerald. Survivors include his wife, Josephine; two sons, Douglas, Belleville and Bryan, Republic; his daughter, Jennifer Isaacson, Salina; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Services were Friday at the United Methodist Church, Republic, with Pastor Joyce Beam officiating. Burial was in the Lake Cemetery, rural Republic. Gene White
Gene Dempsey White, 79, the son of George and Mildred (Brown) White, was born on April 19, 1930, at Axtell, Neb. He died May 14 at Beverly Healthcare Lakeview, Grand Island, Neb. He graduated from Hastings Senior High. He married Sadie Fry and served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1954. He owned and operated K & K Market in Hastings. Gene was a member of the Hastings American Legion and Ducks Unlimited Chapter. Preceding him in death were his parents, and one sister, Evonne Richter. Survivors include his children, George White, Hastings, Les White, Los Angeles, Mrs. Rich Linguna (Sharon), Mesa, Ariz; Mike Long, Hawthorne, Calif.; Patrick Long, Lincoln, Neb.; and Rob Long, Mesa, Ariz.; one brother, Jack White, Clinton, Tenn.; and 10 grandchildren. Ivan Troudt
Ivan Ray Troudt, 82, the son of George and Bernice (Crigler) Troudt, was born Nov. 29, 1921, on the home place, three miles west of Nelson. He died Sept. 28, at Brodstone Memorial Hospital, Superior. He attended school in Nelson and graduated from Camas High school, Washington. He served in the United States Navy from Aug. 10, 1942 to Oct. 21, 1945. He married Fern Thayer July 20, 1943, at the Superior Methodist Parsonage. This union was blessed with three children. He was employed by Nuckolls County doing road work, the ASCS office and was a bus driver and custodian for the Nelson Schools. He was a 50-year member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Leroy (Buster) Troudt, three sisters, infant, Helen Troudt, Vivian Wilson/Wroughton and Nellie Meyer. Survivors include his wife, Fern, Nelson; three daughters, Mrs. Phil Sykes (Bonnie), Norfolk; Mrs. Ron Sukstork (Sandy), Cedar Bluffs; and Mrs. Jack Oberlander (Pam), Fargo, N.D.; 10 grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Bonnie Fuller
Kenneth Bonnie Fuller 86, one of six children born to Verne and Anna Belle (Butler) Fuller, was born Sept. 29, 1918, in Jewell County. He died Oct. 5 at Bryan LGH Medical Center, Lincoln, Neb. He grew up on a farm in Jewell County, and was a graduate of Belvidere High School. He then went to California where he built houses with his cousins. During WWII he joined the Air Force and was a flight engineer on B-29 airplanes for four years. In 1944 he married Dorothy Rock and to this union three daughters were born, Barbara, Nancy and Janice. Dorothy died in 1980. In 1989 he married Lola Gritten. They made their home at Superior. After returning from the war, he started farming and raising cattle which he continued until his retirement. In his retirement he enjoyed restoring pedal tractors, woodworking and antique cars. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion, and Eagles. He served on the Hardy co-op and church boards. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, (Floy), his parents, a brother, (Danny), first wife (Dorothy), and daughter, Barbara. He is survived by wife, Lola, Superior; daughters, Nancy Johnson, Lincoln, Neb.; Mrs. Carl Watts (Janice), Fairfield; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Arthur Senseney (June), Wood River; Mrs. Marvin Robinson (Carol), Henderson, Nev.; and Mrs. Hubert Simonsen (Virginia), Superior. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday from t he United Methodist Church, Superior. Pastor Dorthea Fairbanks officiated. Burial with graveside military honors by Ft. Riley honor guard in the Hardy Cemetery. Williams Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Earl Adamson
Earl Wright Adamson, 83, the son of H. McKinley and Annie E. (Wright) Adamson, was born June 15, 1921, on the family farm southeast of Nelson. He died Oct. 6, at the Good Samaritan Center, Nelson. He graduated from Nelson High School in 1939. He served in the United States Navy from Oct. 26, 1942 through Dec. 3, 1945. He was proud to have served his country and about being involved in building the first dry dock in the Pacific. He married Betty Jacobitz on Sept. 4, 1944 at Mankato. This union was blessed with two daughters. A lifelong member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ, he served on the church board and was a member of the Masons, VFW, American Legion Post 7197, Farmers Union Board, Nelson Cemetery Board and the Shetland Pony Breeders Association. He lived in the communities of Nelson and Nora, and Cherokee, Iowa. He entered the Nelson Good Samaritan Center on July 26, 2004. He loved animals and always had some somewhere he was feeding and taking care of. He was especially fond of his ponies. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and board games. He was dedicated to preserving the history of his family and ancestry as well as his heritage way of life. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Dale. Survivors include his wife, Betty, Nelson, and two daughters, Mrs. Mike Thayer (Karen), Nora, and Mrs. Dennis Follmer (Kathy), Davenport; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Newel Wilhelms (Helen), and Halle Grummert, both of Superior; and one brother, Joe Adamson, Lincoln, Neb. Services were held Saturday from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Berry officiating. Masonic service conducted by the Nelson Lodge. Helen Gingrich
Helen M. Gingrich, 91, the daughter of George and Nell (Bryant) Bayles was born May 11, 1913, at Fairfield. She died at her home in Overland Park. Raised in the Fairfield area, she graduated from Fairfield High School. She married LeVerne Gingrich, June 13, 1936, at York. This union was blessed with the birth of two children. The couple moved from Fairfield to York then to Omaha. Shortly after LaVerne's death in 1986, Helen moved to Overland Park, to be nearer her children. She had been a member of the National Grange at Elkhorn; past president of the Omaha China Painting; past matron of Eastern Star; lifetime member of PTA, Omaha; and Country Side Community Church of Omaha. Survivors include her children, Mrs. Jack K. Lausterer Jr., (JoJanet), and Thomas V. Gingrich, both of Overland Park; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ed Bussell (Verda), Edgar. Services will be held this Friday at 2 p.m. at the Fairfield Cemetery. Pastor Lloyd Boyce will officiate. Williams Funeral Home, Edgar, is in charge of arrangements.

Daryl Allington
Daryl Dean Allington, 73, the son of Guy Mark and Freeda Ethel (Roberson) Allington, was born Aug. 21, 1931, near North Branch. He died Oct. 9, at the Good Samaritan Center, Superior. He attended rural schools including Portland Heights near Superior and graduated from Superior High School with the class of 1949. He served in the United States Army from May 1952 until May 1954 when he was honorably discharged. He was stationed at Camp Roberts, California and then in Germany for 1 1/2 years. On June 27, 1954 he married Joline Loop at the Union Church, Hardy. This union was blessed with two children. He was a farmer and rancher until ill health forced him to retire. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion and the VFW all in Superior. He was a Portland Heights school board member, a past Commander of the American Legion and was a member of the American Legion house committee. He traveled over the continental United States extensively. He traveled to Hawaii, Canada and while in Germany visited Switzerland and Italy. Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister born at rest; a step-mother, Carrie (Danielson) Allington; and step-brother, Marvin Danielson. Survivors include his wife, Joline, Superior; sons Joel, Hastings and Tony Valparaiso; five grandchildren; and a step-sister, Mrs. Chester Chopp (Norma), Narka. Services were held Oct. 12, from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel, Superior, with Pastor Dorthea Fairbanks officiating. Interment with military rites was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Superior.

Rose Herbek
Rose Herbek, 92, Nelson, died Monday at Nelson. Services are Saturday at 10:30 a.m., the Rosary will be at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Nelson. Father Philip Luther will officiate. Burial will be in Nelson Cemetery. Friends may call Friday at the Klawatter-Price Funeral Home, Nelson.

Lloyd Marihugh
Lloyd William Marihugh, 97, died Oct 3 at Lebanon. He was born June 1, 1907, to Elmer and Cora (McCleeary) Marihugh at the family home in Odessa Township, Jewell County. Lloyd attended Dentonia Grade School and Mankato High School. He attended Kansas State College in Manhattan. Lloyd married Margie Enola Ormsbee Dec. 8, 1929. Lloyd was a farmer, raising wheat and Hereford Cattle. He retired early from farming. He and his wife traveled extensively, visiting every state except Hawaii and Alaska. They toured Canada and Mexico and since 1952, spent winters in California, Texas and Florida, with most of the time in Pharr, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings and his wife on Nov. 11, 1996. Lloyd is survived by his son, Robert Allan, Lebanon; two grandsons, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters. Private services will be at a later date. Inurnment will be in the Odessa Cemetery, rural Jewell County. Melby Mortuary, Mankato, is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Frye
Donald R. Frye, 56, Salina, died Oct. 2 in Salina. He was born Nov. 2, 1947, in Mankato, the son of the late Francis W. Frye and Melba (McKenney) Frye. Mr. Frye was a mechanic for Philips Lighting, Salina, at the time of his death. A memorial service is at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina. Survivors include his wife, Marge, of the home; a daughter, Jennifer Frye, Wichita; a sister, Myra Bolt, Clearwater, Fla.; his step-mother Lorraine Frye, Winfield; a step-sister, Mary Nichols, Winfield; and a step-brother, Mike Dillon, Manhattan. Ryan Mortuary & Crematory is in charge of the funeral arrangements. There will be no visitation.

Harli Weber
Harli Weber, 3 months and 23 days, died Monday at the Thayer County Memorial Hospital, Hebron. The daughter of Charles and Natasha (Piel) Weber, she was born June 18 at Bellevilile. Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at the Megrue-Price Funeral Home, Superior. Pastor David Sellers will officiate. Visitation is Thursday until 9 p.m. and Friday until service time. Elwood Clark
Elwood James Clark, Jewell, died Oct. 26 at Hilltop Lodge, Beloit. He was the only son of five children of Mont and Altha (Betts) Clark. Elwood attended Spring Creek country school and graduated from Jewell Rural High School in 1940. On May 28, 1944, he married Inez Flinn. He took over his parents farm near Jewell at an early age and farmed until 1957 when he began working for the Jewell Elevator where he worked until he retired in 1981. He was a member of Jewell Christian Church and Jewell Saddle Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth Theil and Dorothy Clark. Survivors, besides his wife, include four children, Joy Salsman, Richard Clark, James Clark and Wayne Clark; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Bera Heinlen and Rosina Anderson. The funeral was Friday at Jewell Christian Church.

Chester Senti
Chester LeRoy Senti, 88, Downs, last surviving son of Peter Senti and Jennie (Huitig) Senti, died Oct. 20. Chester was born Nov. 21, 1915, and lived his entire life in the Dispatch area. He went into the service in March 1942 and served with the 357th Infantry Regiment of the 90th Division. He served on Normandy Beach and was awarded three combat medals, the Bronze Star, American Theatre Service medal, European African, Middle Eastern Service medal with five Bronze Stars. Returning to his home on Big Oak Creek west of Dispatch, Chester took up his life's work, farming. He married Gladys Hillman on June 3, 1955. He retired from farming in 1990 but continued to live in the country until 1994 when he and his wife moved to Downs. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Dentonia, and later Downs Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and four brothers, Harold, Owen, Donald and Fred Senti. Services were Oct. 23 at Downs Christian Church with the Rev. David Hardy officiating. Burial was in the Prairie Grove Cemetery, Cawker City. Domoney Funeral Home, Downs, was in charge of arrangements.

Marion "Mae" Eggers
Marion Anna Johanna Eggers, 89, the daughter of Cord and Caroline (Hansjuergen) Asche, was born Feb. 20, 1915, near Deshler. She had six brothers and sisters. She died Oct. 24, at Parkview Haven Nursing Home, Deshler. Raised on the family farm, she completed eighth grade at a country school. Like most daughters of her age and generation, her formal schooling ended there as she was needed to help in the house and with her brothers and sisters. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church west of Deshler. On Jan. 25, 1937 she married E. A. "Boob" Eggers. He was in the trucking business and managed the Ruskin Elevator for $50. a month. They didn't have enough money to get married until "Boob" was able to sell a load of his own hogs for $236. They drove his big truck to Fairbury, on a Monday morning looking for a preacher. The preacher told them they needed a license from the courthouse. Then the preacher found a witness and they gave the preacher $3 for marrying them. They bought the furniture they needed at the Fairbury Montgomery Ward store. They had $11 left over and went to the jewelers and bought two wedding bands. Then they headed to Ruskin where "Boob' had rented a house for a month. They were blessed with two sons, Bob and Roger. They moved to their home west of Ruskin before Roger was born and stayed there the rest of their married life. Mae enjoyed following her sons many sports activities. She had a big garden and canned a lot of produce. She raised chickens and sold eggs and also butchered chickens. For 20 years she did her wash in the "wash house." They eventually started raising race horses. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1987, with friends and family at Bethany Lutheran Church, which had been their church home all of their married life. "Boob" died May 11, 1996, After being in poor health for a few years. Mae's mind declined steadily after that and she moved to Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler Oct. 5, 1998. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her siblings; a grandson, Kord Eggers. She is survived by her two sons, Bob, Westminster, Colo.; and Roger, Lemoyne, Neb.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services were held last Wednesday at the Bethany Lutheran Church, with Pastor Evelyn Phillips officiating. Interment was in the Deshler City Cemetery. Ahrendts Funeral Home, Deshler, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert "Jack" Montgomery
Robert E. "Jack" Montgomery, 98, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy (Ely) Montgomery was born June 13, 1906 Nelson. He died Thursday at the Nelson Good samaritan Center. He grew up in Oak and Nelson and graduated from Nelson High School. Jack married Lois Williams on June 25, 1938 at Nelson. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Wyoming where Jack found employment for a short time with the railroad. Jack and Lois returned to the Oak area in the 1940s where Jack took over the family farm and remained there until failing health took him to the nursing home. He bad been an active member of the Nelson Masonic Lodge, having received his 75-year membership pin; he was also a long time member of the Nelson Eastern Star. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on March 26, 1986; brothers, Fritz and Dick Montgomery and a sister Grace Williams. He is survived by nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends. Services were Monday at the Edgar Cemetery. Pastor Steve Matthews officiated. Lyle Williams
Raymond Lyle Williams, 81, died Oct. 27. He was born May 2, 1923, at Superior to Sylvia (Payne) and Raymond Williams. He grew up in Superior and graduated from Superior High School in 1941. He married Frances Elaine Kenley of Davenport, on Oct. 4, 1941, at Belleville. To this union five children were born, Judith Ann, Kathryn Kay, Paula Jean, Christine Elaine and John Mark. As a young man, he worked at G. R. Dodd's Ice Cream and Ice Plant and the cement plant and the Hastings Naval Ammunition depot and with the railroad. His love for baseball, gardening and dancing has been passed down to his children and grandchildren. He entered the navy on April 10, 1944, and did his basic training at Farragut, Idaho. He was stationed at San Pedro, Calif., and Great Lakes, Ill. He served on the SS Veren Dwyre, the SS Swarthmore and the SS Arcadia Victory participating in the American and European theaters, the American Victory and Pacific. He received an honorable discharge as a Seaman First Class in January, 1946. Upon returning to the states Lyle's career with the power industry began. During his 34 years with Consumers Public Power and Nebraska Public Power District he worked as a lineman, local manager and heat and cooling specialist in the towns of Superior, Humphery, Newman Grove and Norfolk respectively. Memberships included American Legion, VFW, Fireman and other civic groups. He was a member of the Westridge United Methodist Church, Norfolk. Survivors include his children Mrs. Robert Ranes (Judy), Lin,coln, Neb. Mrs. Dean Hallgren, (Paula) Lakeville, Minn. Mrs. Brad Osmond, (Chris), and John, Columbus; a sister Mrs. Fritz Wehrman (Betty Lou), Nelson, and brother-in-law, Bill Kenley, Edgar; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years and a daughter, Kathy, who died March 5, 1959 at the age of 14; two grandsons, a brother, Jack and a sister, Eleanor Craig. Services were held at Johnso-Stonacek Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, Oct. 30, with the Rev. Carol Jean Stapelton, Osmond, officiating. The Rev. Mark Diehl, Superior, officiated at the graveside services held at Evergreen Cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post 35 55 and American Legion St. Mihiel Post 103 of Superior.

Chris Nelson
Chris P. Nelsen, 91, Superior, died Sunday at Superior. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel, Superior. Pastor Jack Roe will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Superior.

Katherine Olson
Katherine Sarah Olsen, 87, daughter of Oscar Kendall and Lissie Mann Kendall was born July 30, 1917, at Brewster, Kan. She died Saturday at the Mitchell County Long Term Care, Beloit. She received her education in the Concordia Public Schools. She married Omar D. Olsen Aug. 5, 1937. To this union four children were born, Carol, Larry, Hans, Sonja. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sisters, Mary Katherine and Alice. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bob Brandt (Carol) and Mrs. Gary Keeling (Sonja), both of Superior; two sons, Larry and Hans, both of Scandia; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Cecil Fesseden, Monticello, Minn.; Maudie Smith, Clyde; Dorothy Reeder, Oklahoma, Stella Wait, Salina; two brothers, Ted Kendall, Oklahoma, and Oscar Kendall, Belleville. Services were held Tuesday at the Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart-Surber Funeral Home, Scandia, conducted by the Rev. Ray Gilstrap. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery, Scandia.

James Rodehorst
James R. Rodehorst, 69, Nelson, died Saturday at Superior. Services will be today (Thursday), at 10:30 a.m., at the Nelson Community United Church of Christ. The Rev. Dr. Stephen Berry, the Rev. Rob Thornton, Pastor James Wilsey and Don Kyer will officiate. Burial with full military rites will be in the Clay Center Cemetery. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home, Nelson, is in charge of arrangements.
