ADAMS 06 Oct 1915 William Adams, aged 32 years, an Indian instructor at Carlisle PA for 12 years, died today at Haystack Mountain Sanitarium after an illness of 4 months. He came to Cumberland while enroute to his home in Oklahoma and was admitted to Allegany Hospital and then transferred to the TB Sanitarium. One brother survives in Oklahoma. The funeral is tomorrow with burial in Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery.

BACHMAN 06 Oct 1915 Louis Vincent Bachman, aged 20 years, the only son of Mr & Mrs John Bachman, died today at Western Maryland Hospital of internal troubles following a severe attack of typhoid fever. Born in Cumberland in 1894, he was a plumber for J B McFarland Co. Services are at German Lutheran Church with Rev C F Bergman and burial in the German Lutheran Cemetery.

BACHMAN 19 Oct 1915 Mrs Annie M Bachman, aged 66 years, wife of William Bachman, died this morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs Charles Danner of 256 N Mechanic Street. She had been in ill health for some time. She is survived by her husband, and these children: Mrs William Heck; Mrs Charles Danner of Cumberland; Mrs Elmer Steinley of Frostburg. Also, sisters, Mrs P J Sealers of McKeesport and Miss Sophia Burns of Pittsburgh. Services from the home of her daughter and at the German Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery.

BAER 23 Oct 1915 Samuel Adam Baer, aged 69 years, professor at the State Normal School #2, died at his home 57 Union Street, Frostburg last night from paralysis. His wife and 3 children survive: Mrs James Kinsloe of Charlotte NC; Capt Joseph A Baer of Fort Ethan Allen VT; Carl A Baer and electrician of Philadelphia. The funeral is tomorrow from St Paul’s Lutheran Church and burial in Reading PA Cemetery.

BEALL 06 Oct 1915 Mrs Walter R Beall died at her home in Carlisle PA. Her husband, who died 10 years ago, is a child of the late Adolphus Beall and a brother of Mrs J W S Cochrane.

BLAKER 13 Oct 1915 Mrs Nellie May Blaker, aged 24 years, wife of Carl P Blaker of Ridgeley WV, died at Western Maryland Hospital where she had been taken for treatment of blood poisoning from a pimple on her face. Swelling and other pimples appeared and she was hospitalized. She is survived by her husband, a small boy, Oliver Frederick and a girl, Nellie Frances. Also, her parents, Mr & Mrs Daniel C Twigg of 105 Arch Street; a brother, Ira Twigg; and sisters, Mrs G C Harshberger; Mrs S W Blacher; and Miss Pearl Twigg of Cumberland and Mrs Charles Chestnut of Keyser. The funeral is from the home of her parents and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

BLAUL 13 Oct 1915 William Blaul, aged 38 years, son of the late Frank Blaul, died last night at Western Maryland Hospital following a protracted illness for which an operation proved unsuccessful. He was unmarried and is survived by Step-mother, Mrs F Blaul; brothers, Frederick and August Blaul; sisters, Mrs John C Shaffer of Tiffin OH; and Mrs Clifton White, Mrs Charles Schaidt, and Miss Matilda Blaul, all of Cumberland. The funeral is from the home on N Mechanic Street and services in the German Lutheran Church and burial in German Lutheran Cemetery

BLUBAUGH 04 Oct 1915 Mrs Ida Blubaugh, aged 49 years, wife of Charles H Blubaugh, died Saturday (01 Oct) of typhoid fever, at her home on the Baltimore Pike, 6 miles out. Besides her husband who is ill with the same disease; children surviving are: Thomas and Walter Blubaugh at home; Mrs Charles Stafford of Irons Mt; Mrs Ephraiam Stafford of Warrior Mt; Jacob, Arthur, Bessie, Clara, and Martha Blubaugh at home. The funeral and burial is at Pleasant Grove Church and Cemetery.

BRANT 11 Oct 1915 A J Brant, aged 89 years, died yesterday at his home on Bedford Street. He was a Union Veteran a member of the 7th PA VOL, fighting at Antietam, Bull Run, Chancelorsville, Gettysburg, and Wilderness, where he was wounded. He is survived by 5 sons and 3 daughters; Peter; Leonard; Theodore; and D H Brant of Cumberland; and Grant Brant of Mt Savage; and Mrs Victoria Stein; Mrs Amanda Hickle and Mrs Jessie Forbeck of Cumberland. Burial is to be made in the Wilson Cemetery on the Bedford Road.

BYERS 09 Oct 1915 Mrs Margaret Byers, aged 65 years, wife of the late William Byers, died yesterday at her home on Scotch Hill, Lonaconing. Born in Scotland in 1850, she came to this country when quite young. These children survive: Mrs William Thompson and Mrs William Abbott and John, Adam, William, and James Byers of Lonaconing. The funeral is from the home with Rev H L Earnst and burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

CALE 07 Oct 1915 Eugene Edward Cale, 2 month son of Mr & Mrs William J Cale of 139 Walnut Street, died at the home following a brief illness.

CARDER 28 Oct 1915 John B Carder, aged 37 years, a former resident of Cumberland, died in Pittsburgh. . He was employed at the Stein Undertaking Co before removing to Pittsburgh. The body will be brought back to Cumberland for services and burial The body will lay at the home of Mrs Mary Hollenberger, 15 Chestnut Street. Funeral services will be at Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

CARSCANDEN 23 Oct 1915 Mrs Mary J Carscanden, aged 64 years, wife of the late Thomas Carscanden, died today at her home on 13 Lee Street following a long illness. These sons and daughters survive: John H Carscanden; Thomas A Carscanden of Cumberland; Robert S Carscanden of St Louis MO; Mrs James Willison of Oakland MD; Mrs Leon Osborn of Fairmont WV; Miss Mary and Miss Fannie Carscanden at home. Services at Emmanuel Episcopal and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

CATLETT 13 Oct 1915 Mrs Rhoda Catlett, aged 63 years, wife of Charles Catlett, died today at the home of a son, Frank Catlett following an illness of 4 weeks. She is survived by Clark Catlett, Frank Catlett and Miss Effie Cartlett, all of Cumberland. The funeral is from the home 140 Offutt Street with Rev Wheeler of the M E Church, South and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

CATTLE THROUGH CUMBERLAND 30 Oct 1915 A herd of 125 cattle were driven through the streets of Cumberland on a drive by Walter and Howard Cessna to their farm in Rainsburg PA. This cattle drive reminds old timers of the younger days of Cumberland. The cattle have grazed in the summer and fall on the Allegany Mountains near Thomas WV and include bulls, heifers, and steers of the Poll-Angus breed. [ A four paragraph article].

CECIL 14 Oct 1915 Mrs Emily Cecil, aged 62 years, wife of the late William Cecil, died yesterday at her home in Cresaptown following a lingering illness. She is survived by children: William Cecil of Midland; Theodore Cecil of Braddock PA; and John, Frank, and Mrs Albert Alvey at home. The funeral is from the ME Church at Cresaptown and burial in the church cemetery..

COLE 11 Oct 1915 Edward R Cole, a paper hanger, died last night by taking laudanum at his home in Westernport. He is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Bonnett, and 5 children. The funeral is from his home at Oak View on Tuesday.

COUTERS 26 Oct 1915 Mrs Marie Couters, aged 20 years, wife of Charles Couters, died at the home of her father, Charles Edmondson of 462 Race Street, last night following an illness of several weeks. She is survived by her parents, husband, and brothers: Charles E Edmondson of Baltimore; and S W Edmondson of Pittsburgh; and sisters, Mrs Joseph Buttimore of Woodlawn PA; Mrs William Bell of Cumberland; Miss Gladys Edmondson at home. The funeral is from the home of her father and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev David G Pile.

CROWFIS 19 Oct 1915 Hazel Irene Crowfis, a 7 month old daughter of Mr & Mrs Samuel J Crowfis, died at the home on Wineow Street. The funeral is Thursday and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

DAVIS 04 Oct 1915 Mrs Della Davis, aged 33 years, wife of William Davis of Baline WV, died Saturday (01 Oct) at the Western Maryland Hospital following a lingering illness. Her husband and 4 small children survive. The funeral is to be in Blaine WV.

DAVIS 07 Oct 1915 and 11 Oct 1915 Mrs Mary Davis, aged 58 years, wife of Thomas P Davis, died last night at her home in Oldtown after a lingering illness. These children survive: Mrs R J Cross of Wilmington DE; Mrs J J Parlaman of Cumberland; Misses Anna and Frances Davis; and also William, George P, Elmer C, W Herman, John and Ernest Davis of Oldtown; also brothers and sisters, Mrs Catherine Little of Spring Gap; Matthew Herpich of Connellsville; George Herpich of Indianapolis; and C G and Louis Herpich of Cumberland. Funeral services at the Mt Tabor Church at Spring Gap and burial in the church cemetery under direction of Rev Arborgast.

DOERNER 27 Oct 1915 Mrs Anna H Doerner, aged 68 years, wife of George Doerner of 542 Greene Street, died today following an illness of 11 months. She is survived by her husband, and these sons and daughters: John C Doerner of FL; George Doerner of NY; Firman Doerner at home; Raymond Doerner of Baltimore; Mrs Peter Lippold of Bedford Road, Cumberland and Mrs Lucy Herzog, wife of Dr B T Herzog of Baltimore, and also 5 grand children. Services to be held at Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

DOLLMEYER 11 Oct 1915 Mrs Louise Dollmeyer, wife of the late Philip Dollmeyer, died Friday (8 Oct) at her home in Parkersburg WV from hemorrhage of the brain. She is the mother of William F Dollmeyer, manager of the Lonaconing office of WV & MD Gas Co. She was born in Wertemburg Germany in 1841, and came to Wheeling WV when she was 6 years old. She married and moved to Parkersburg in 1861. She is survived by 2 sons; Albert Dollmeyer of Parkersburg and William F Dollmeyer of Lonaconing and 3 daughters, Mrs T H Wiley; Mrs L G Underwood; and Mrs C S PAHL of Parkersburg.

ELLIOTT 29 Oct 1915 Mrs Elmarie Elliott, aged 81 years, wife of Thomas Elliott of Cumberland Valley, died at her home last night following an illness of a few days. Surviving are one son, Ross Elliott at home and 3 daughters; Mrs Reed Miller of Centreville; and Mrs Thomas Hardinger and Mrs Rose Drenning of Cumberland Valley. The funeral is from the Bethel Church with Rev Pierpont and burial in the Bethel Cemetery.

FAHERTY 21 Oct 1915 Mrs L C Faherty, 27 years of age, died yesterday at her home in Hamilton, near Baltimore, from pneumonia following an operation. She was Miss Mary Ways, a daughter of Mr & Mrs George Ways of George Street in Cumberland. Her parents, husband, and 2 children survive. Services are in Hamilton and burial in Bonnie Brae Cemetery with services in St Dominick’s Church.

FARRELL 06 Oct 1915 M J Farrell, 63, the father of Rush Herbert Farrell of the Western Maryland RR and of 369 Bedford Street, died Sunday (3 Oct) in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. He is survived by a widow and 4 sons; R H Farrell of Cumberland; George A Farrell of McKeesport; Arthur J Farrell and Joseph Farrell of Pittsburgh; and also 4 daughters, Mrs T V A Maloy; Miss Unita Farrell and Miss Ella Farrell of Pittsburgh. A High Mass will be celebrated at St Paul’s Cathedral in Pittsburgh.

GETSON 11 Oct 1915 Earl Franklin Getson, aged 2 years, died at the home of Mrs Thomas Lloyd at Scotch Hill. The father was killed 2 months ago and the family has been living in the Lloyd household since then. Burial in Greenmount Cemetery on the Baltimore Pike in Cumberland.

GLINE 22 Oct 1915 Mrs Christine Gline, former resident of Frostburg, died Wednesday (20 Oct) at the home of a son, Fred Gline of Federalsburg MD. She is survived by sons, Benjamin of Garrett PA; Fred and John Gline of Federalsburg; and Henry Gline of Ormond Street, Frostburg; and daughters Mrs William Tiley and Mrs John Elerick of Hickman, Delaware. Services at the home of her son Henry and burial in the Episcopal Cemetery at Mt Savage.

GRIMM 27 Oct 1915 H Martin Grimm, the B&O RR brakeman who died in the emergency room of the hospital at Morgantown, was brought to Cumberland on the train and taken to the home of parents, Mr & Mrs J I Grimm, 321 Grand Avenue where services will be held tomorrow with Rev H V Wheeler and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

GROVES 01 Oct 1915 Harry Groves, aged 50 years, fell from the Western Maryland RR trestle over the Potomac River into the river receiving injuries from which he died today at the Western Maryland Hospital. He is survived by a son, Harry Groves, a brakeman for the B&O RR and sister, Mrs Sarah Shannon of Springdale Street, Cumberland. The funeral is from the home at 16 Vine Street and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

GUNTER 13 Oct 1915 Mrs Leah Gunter, aged 56 years, wife of Thomas Gunter, died at her home in Linners MO on Monday (11 Oct) of a complication of diseases. Mrs Gunter was born in Frostburg and a daughter of Mr & Mrs Joseph Yates of Grahamstown. Besides her husband, she is survived by 2 sons, Benjamin Allard Gunter and Richard Gunter; and 4 brothers, Joseph Yates if Williamsburg IA; Owen Yates of California; Joseph Yates of New Cambria MO; and Isaac Yates of Linners MO; and sisters, Mrs Griffith Powell of New Cambria MO; Mrs Richard Gunter; Mrs Phillip Offman; and Mrs John C Harris of Frostburg.

HANSROTE 13 Oct 1915 James H Hansrote, 1 year old son of Mr & Mrs George F Hansrote of 25 Weber Street, died today. The funeral is from the home and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

HARVEY 15 Oct 1915 John F Harvey, 26 years of age, of 10 Weber Street, a helper in the B & O RR shops, died yesterday at Allegany Hospital following a short illness of a mastoid abscess. He is survived by his wife, his parents, and a number of brothers and sisters. The funeral is from St Patrick’s Catholic Church with Rev Father Liddy of Altoona, a cousin, and burial in the church cemetery.

HARWOOD 14 Oct 1915 William Cook of Elkins WV, a former resident of Frostburg and a son of William H Cook of the Frostburg City Council, stabbed and killed Miss Marie W Harwood, aged 22 years, at the home of her sister, Mrs Charles Ritter in Elkins WV following her refusal of his offer of marriage. He then fled into the mountains.

15 Oct 1915 William C Cook of Elkins WV has been captured. He came to the home of Mrs I K Dye, the general manager of the Coal & Coke RR and was bleeding of the left wrist from an attempt at self destruction. The authorities were called and he was arrested.

HELBLING 23 Oct 1915 Mrs Jerome F Helbling died at her home in Hazelwood PA today after an illness of several months. She is a former Eckhart resident, the daughter of the late Otto Helbling and Mrs Margaret Ahrberg who survives her daughter; and husband, and two children; and sisters, Annie and Ella and brother John all of Pittsburgh. Mr Helbling is with the signal department of the B & O RR. Burial in Hazelwood PA cemetery.

HENRY 28 Oct 1915 Mrs Ella E Henry, 40 years of age, wife of Mr Clark E Henry, assistant superintendent of Prudential Insurance Co, died at her home on S Mechanic Street last night following a 9 week illness. Besides her husband, 3 children survive: Pearson aged 13 years, Eva aged 11 years, and Verna aged 5 years. Services are at Emmanuel Episcopal Church and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery under direction of Rev Walter McKinley of Westernport.

HILL 15 Oct 1915 Robert Hill, aged 43 years, a married miner of Midland, was killed yesterday in an auto accident east of Hagerstown. A wife and sons, William and Earl Hill survive. Mrs Hill was formerly Miss Belle Montgomery of Midland. His aged mother, Mrs Mary Hill also survives at Midland. Also, brothers, John Hill of Steubenville OH; James and William Hill of Homestead PA; and sisters, Mrs Matthew Martin of Gilmore; Mrs Andrew Brode of Frostburg; Mrs George Brode of Frostburg; Mrs J H Robinson of Lonaconing; and Miss Sarah Hill at home.

HOUSEL 13 Oct 1915 Miss Katie Housel, aged 42 years, daughter of Mr & Mrs Solomon Housel, died at her home on Bowery Street, Frostburg of cancer, suffering a long time.

HUFF 29 Oct 1915 Leonard W Huff of Ridgeley WV, 83 years of age, died at the home of a son, Mr L Wesley Huff following a 1 week illness. A Civil War veteran of the Union Army, his wife was Elizabeth Davis of Patterson’s Creek. The following children survive: LW Huff; H G Huff; Mrs A B Baker of Ridgeley; Mrs John Lease of Bier MD; Mrs Jerry Taylor of Dawson MD; Mrs J T Lease and Mrs Isaac Lease of Cresaptown; Mrs Edward Ack of Luke MD; and Mrs John Logsdon of Patterson’s Creek. Also, a brother, Thomas Huff of IL and a sister, Mrs Martin Paxton Of TX. The body will be taken to Patterson’s Creek for services and burial.

JEFFERS 11 Oct 1915 Mr T B Jeffers, in his 76th year, died yesterday at his home in McCoole. His wife and 2 children survive. The funeral is tomorrow.

JOHNSON 22 Oct 1915 Miss Margaret Johnson, formerly of Patterson’s Creek, died at her home in Frost KY in her 77th year. Her nephew, James Johnson of Keyser, received the message. The body will be transported here for the funeral in the Johnson home on Fort Avenue, Keyser and burial in the cemetery at Eusebia.

KAIAL 30 Oct 1915 Joseph Kaial, 38 years of age, a German, died yesterday at the Haystack Mountain Sanitarium of tuberculosis. The deceased, a mute recently removed from Baltimore and lived at Mapleside. His wife and these children survive: Misses Jary, Josephine, and Michael Kaial. The funeral is from St Mary’s Catholic Church and burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery.

KENNELL 28 Oct 1915 Gretta Louise Kennell, a 10 month old daughter of Mr & Mrs A C Kennell, died today at her home, 80 Decatur Street. The body will be taken to Meyersdale PA for services and burial.

KUHLEY 08 Oct 1915 William Clyde Kuhley, a one year old twin son of William L & Lula E Kuhley of Cumberland, died at the home of grand parents James W Lyons of Elk Garden WV. Burial and services in Elk Garden.

LEASURE 18 Oct 1915 Preston Leasure, 18 years of age, died yesterday of injuries suffered in "E" yard at B & O RR. He is survived by his father, Isaac Leasure of Oldtown, brothers, Robert G Leasure of Bellvue Street, Daniel and John Leasure of Oldtown; 3 sisters, Mrs Marion Dicken of 110 Columbia Street; Mrs F R Kifer of LaVale; and Mrs Columbus Nixon of Oldtown. The funeral is from the home of his sister, Mrs Milton Dicken, 110 Columbia St and burial in German Lutheran Cemetery.

LIGHT 15 Oct 1915 William F Light, aged 88 years, died Tuesday (12 Oct) at his home at Light’s Crossing near Orleans Crossroads. His widow, the former Miss Rose Householder of PA ,were married Nov 20, 1851 and 13 children were born of this union. They survive: GW Light; Howard F Light; and Mrs G W Apple; and Mrs Adam Roby of Cumberland; Henry F Light and John W Light of Paw Paw; William F Light of Orleans Crossroads WV; and Clifton Light at home; Peter M Light; Mrs Burris Shipley of Martinsburg; and Mrs James Youngblood of Cacapon Valley WV; and also 34 grand children and 21 great grand children. He was a Civil War Veteran, enlisting as a scout and promoted until he made Captain of Company 58. He worked for the B & O RR rising to conductor after 20 years. He farmed at Orleans Crossroads until his death. Services at Mt Zion M E Church at Crossroads.

McLUCKIE 14 Oct 1915 Mr George McLuckie, aged 79 years, died Monday (11 Oct) at the home of son, George H McLuckie Jr at Bellvue PA. Mr McLuckie is a former resident of Lonaconing. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs Agnes Bell and Miss Margaret McLuckie of Pittsburgh; sons, George Jr of Bellvue PA; John; William Edward; and Alex McLuckie of Pittsburgh; and step-son, James Donaldson of Lonaconing.

McMULLEN 11 Oct 1915 Hugh M McMullen, is a democratic candidate for comptroller. A photo and biograph of 5 paragraphs is presented.

METZ 15 Oct 1915 Two young boys, Joseph Metz, age 9 years and Edward Metz, aged 12 years , sons of Mr & Mrs AL Metz of Jackson Street, Lonaconing, leapt from the train trestle into the waters of the George’s Creek to avoid being struck by an engine of an approaching train. They were rescued from drowning by Malcolm Crosser, who conducts a grocery store nearby. [Article has 3 paragraphs].

MILLER 18 Oct 1915 James O Miller, aged 18, son of Mr & Mrs Michael Miller of 69 Ascension Street, was fatally injured attempting to board a westbound freight of the B & O RR at Okonoko WV, after a fishing trip. His right leg was severed and he had numerous cuts and bruises about the head and body. Besides his parents, he is survived by 2 sisters; Miss Elsie Miller and Mrs Virgil McElfish of 14 Park Street. The funeral is from Kingsley M E Church and burial is at Rose Hill Cemetery.

MILLER 19 Oct 1915 Mrs Josephine Miller, 45 years of age, wife of W H Miller and a daughter of Jacob Speelman, died at her home in Connellsville of paralysis. Surviving are her husband; 1 son, Hamilton R Miller; and 1 daughter, Mrs H C Cochrane of Pittsburgh. Services were held at her home there and the body transported to Cumberland for burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

MILLER 25 Oct 1915 Walter J Miller, aged 47 years, a mason and contractor, died today at his home on N Mechanic Street following a illness of 1 week. Surviving are his wife, Theresa Miller; one daughter, Miss Loretta and a son, Joseph Miller; also, brother, Alvin Miller; and sisters, Mrs Jerome Burkey of Cresaptown; Mrs Harry Strominger and Mrs Barbara Mack of Cumberland. Services and burial at Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church and Cemetery.

PERRIN 28 Oct 1915 Frank G Perrin, aged 60 years, formerly living on the Bretz Farm, 7 miles out of Cumberland on the Baltimore Pike, died on Tuesday (26 Oct) at his new home, 4 miles southeast of Everett PA following a long suffering illness of inflammatory rheumatism. His widow, the former Miss Lizzie Felton and these surviving children: Mrs Thurman E Dolan of Baltimore Avenue; Mrs Leslie Hinkle of Baltimore Pike; and Howard Perrin of Water Street. His remains were brought to Cumberland on the Pennsylvania RR and burial was made at Mt Pleasant Church.

POTTS 13 Oct 1915 Mrs Magdalene Potts, about 45 years, wife of Jonas Potts, died Friday (8 Oct) at her home near Little Orleans MD following a sickness of 2 days. Surviving are her husband; son, Albert and; daughter Mrs A T Clay of Cumberland. Mrs Potts was formerly Miss Keefer and for 10 years lived in Cumberland with Mrs Dennis O’Neal.

RIZER 04 Oct 1915 Charles L Rizer, aged 69 years, son of Martin Luther Rizer, a pioneer resident of Cumberland, died yesterday at a sanitarium at Corry PA. He was a tinner and a roofer and served in the Civil War in Co C, 2nd MD Reg. His wife, the former Amanda Butt and children: William P Rizer; Harry C Rizer; Ralph L Rizer; and Mrs William Martin; and several grand children survive. Also surviving are, sisters, Mrs Laura V Hinkle and Mrs Lucy Munn of Chicago. A brother H Clay Rizer of Piedmont died about 2 years ago. ROBERTS 06 Oct 1915 Mary Ellen Roberts, aged 76 years, wife of the late John L Roberts of Martinsburg WV; died last night at the home of a daughter, Mrs C W Hobday on 220 Grand Avenue following an illness of 6 weeks. Two children survive: Charles E Roberts of Mt Airy MD and Mrs Hobday. Funeral services are in Martinsburg at the German Reformed Church and burial in Green Hill Cemetery.

ROGERS 01 Oct 1915 Mr Sol Rogers, aged 70 years, died yesterday at Keyser and is survived by 3 children: Dwight Rogers, and Mrs C L Everhart of Keyser; and Charles Rogers of Philadelphia.

SCHAIDT 11 Oct 1915 Miss Margaret Schaidt, aged 29 years, daughter of Mr & Mrs Conrad Schaidt of Williams Road, died at Allegany Hospital after a brief illness. Her parents and these brothers and sisters survive: Henry Schaidt of Warren OH; Peter Schaidt; Mrs Fred Wolfe and Mrs L T Cosgrove of Cumberland. The funeral is held at the home of Edward Cosgrove on Broadway Circle off Williams Road and services at the German Reformed Church with burial in the church cemetery.

SCHILLER 11 Oct 1915 Solomon W Schiller, aged 36 years, of Glencoe PA and a brother of Norman B Schiller of Holland Street, Cumberland, died Saturday (9 Oct) at the Western Maryland Hospital following a serious operation. The funeral services are at Glencoe with burial in the Johnsburg Cemetery.

SCHILLING 22 Oct 1915 Mrs Barbara Schilling, aged 68 years, wife of Edward Schilling, died yesterday at her home 410 Greene Street. She is survived by her husband, and son, Sylvester Schilling; and her daughters, Mrs C Guy Bringle and Mrs H B Williams. Also, a brother, Conrad Rudolph of the city, and sisters, Mrs K Dawson of Rose Hill Avenue, Cumberland; Mrs Oscar A Richards of Pittsburgh; and Mrs Magge Flury of Cannonsburg PA. SCOTT 24 Oct 1915 Robert Scott Sr, a native of Scotland, aged 79 years, died at his home 124 S Water Street in Frostburg following an illness of 1 week. He has lived in this area for 40 years. His wife died 2 years ago and he has been making his home with Mr & Mrs John Morgan. Surviving are 6 children: John Scott of Chicago; William Scott of Wheeling WV; David Scott and Robert Scott of Linton IN; Mrs Jennie Williamson of Waynesboro PA; and Mrs George Anthony of Jasonville IN. He is a retired miner. The funeral is from his home on Water Street and burial in Allegany Cemetery with Rev Mr Lindamood of the Grace ME Church, South.

SLOAN 01 Oct 1915 John Sloan, aged 39 years, son of mr & Mrs Duncan N Sloan, formerly of Lonaconing, died of cancer of the stomach at his home in Detmold last night. He was a coal miner. His first wife, Miss Elizabeth Wells died leaving him with small children. His second wife, Mrs Florence Ternent Clark, widow of the late John Clark, survives him with the 4 children of the first marriage: Stella, Michael, Thomas, and John Sloan Jr. Also, brothers, Duncan N Sloan Jr; James Sloan; and William Sloan of Lonaconing; and Thomas G Sloan of Hagerstown. He took great interest in raising chickens and won numerous prizes in poultry shows. The funeral is at the home and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev Thomas Wheeler.

SPIES 26 Oct 1915 Floyd W Spies, infant son of Henry and Daisy Spies of Fayette Street Extended, died Sunday (24 Oct) following a short illness. The funeral is from the home and burial in the German Lutheran Cemetery.

STANLEY 23 Oct 1915 John Jennings Stanley, infant son of Mr & Mrs Thomas Stanley died Thursday (21 Oct) at his home on Spring Street, Keyser. The funeral was today.

STEWART 20 Oct 1915 Miss Ella Stewart, aged 31 years, died today at the home of her sister, Mrs Ollie Goss of 50 Wineow Street following an illness of eleven weeks. A brother, Joseph C Stewart, and sister, Mrs Ollie Goss survive. The funeral is from St Patrick’s with burial in the church cemetery with Rev O‘Hara.

STREET 12 Oct 1915 John Street, aged 4 years, son of Mr & Mrs Eli Street of Blair Street, Frostburg, died of diphtheria today. Burial is from the home to Allegany Cemetery.

TAYLOR 27 Oct 1915 Foreman Taylor of South Branch is 103 years of age and in good health. A photo of he and his two sons, Willie Taylor and Brook Taylor, both of whom live nearby, some of the descendants and a 9 paragraph biography.

THOMPSON 25 Oct 1915 T M Thompson, aged 45 years, of Durbin WV died Saturday (23 Oct) in Western Maryland Hospital of paralysis. His body will be transported to Elkins WV for services and burial.

THORP 05 Oct 1915 Mrs Susanna Thorp, aged 81 years, died yesterday at the home of a son, Charles E Thorp in McCoole where she was an invalid and ill for the past year. She was a daughter of the late Samuel Ruckman of Hampshire Co, came to Keyser in April 1874 and to McCoole in 1879. Seven children survive; 4 sons and 3 daughters; Mrs John Sluss of Cumberland; Mrs T O Stine of Cumberland; Mrs C J Miller of McCoole; J W Thorp of Cumberland; John S Thorp of Fairmont; and James Thorp and Charles Thorp of McCoole. The funeral is tomorrow with interment in Dayton Cemetery.

TRAIN HOLDUP 08 Oct 1915 The westbound B & O train was held up by bandits at Central WV, 52 miles west of Grafton by separating the engine and mail cars from the passenger cars and driving the engine a mile from the rest of the train and looting the mail car.

TURNBULL 22 Oct 1915 John Turnbull, 2 year old son of Mr & Mrs Robert Turnbull of Laurel Hill, died Wednesday (20 Oct ) of Bright’s disease. Burial in Laurel Hill with Rev Stanley H Jewell.

TURNER 02 Oct 1915 Mr Joshua Turner, aged 83 years, died at the home of a son, William Turner of Shade Mills, 8 miles west of Frostburg on Thursday 30 Sep. He was of a pioneer family of Garrett Co. Surviving are: Henry, George, William Turner and Mrs Annie Durst all of Shade Mills; Mrs Sarah Frost of Frostburg; Mrs Jennie Weaver of Thomas WV; Mrs Laura Layman of Newell Iowa; and Silas E Turner of Milledgeville IL. The funeral is from the German Reform Church, New Germany with Rev Munn.

VALENTINE 14 Oct 1915 Jacob Albert Valentine, aged 67 years, died today at his home on Ann Street following a 4 week illness from an injury occurring 2 years ago while working in the freight department of the B & O RR. His wife and 6 children survive: Walter V; Russell B; and Spear Valentine-all of Cumberland; and brothers, Frank of Sheridan PA and John Valentine, ½ brother, Elmer Valentine; a sister, Mrs Nina Springer of Fairmont WV; ½ sister, Mrs Henry Welch of Cooks Mills PA. He was with the B&O RR for 21 years and had been the farmer at the Almshouse for 10 years prior to that. Services are from the home and services in Kingsley Church and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

WALTERS 08 Oct 1915 Mrs Ursula A Walters, aged 80 years, widow of Thomas D Walters, died today at the home of a son, B Frank Walters at 240 Center Street, following a 4 week illness. These children survive: Mrs H C Hyde of Cumberland; B Frank Walters of Cumberland; Mrs Julia Mills of Philadelphia; Mrs Lena G Scherch of California; and Mrs Henrietta Vickers of Massachusetts. Services with Rev Loomis of the Baptist Church and Rev J L Ward of the M P Church and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

WEIMER 21 Oct 1915 John S Weimer, an old citizen of this area and a huckster from Clear Ridge, Bedford County PA, died last Frday (15 Oct) at Clearville PA. He was a substitute in the Civil War. He was a son of the late Solomon Weimer. Brothers, Solomon of Chapman’s Run and Barney Weimer of McNeill WV survive. Mrs William Fletcher of Pratt MD, deceased, was a sister. Several children survive, among whom is Daniel Weimer of Clearfield PA who is also a huckster.

WEISKETTLE 16 Oct 1915 Charles W Weiskettle, aged 79 years, died last night at his home 39 Independence Street after an illness of 3 weeks. He was a machinist by trade. A wife and one son, George W Weiskettle; and 2 sisters; Belle and Minnie Weiskettle; and 3 grand children survive. The funeral is form the home and burial in German Lutheran Cemetery.

WENEKEL 05 Oct 1915 Henry Weneckel, aged 69 years, died at his home in Mt Savage of pneumonia. He also suffered from cancer of the throat. Surviving are sisters; Mrs Margaret Ewald and Mrs Sofia Shaffer. The funeral is Thursday at St George Episcopal Church and burial in the cemetery associated with the church.

WINTERROTH 30 Oct 1915 George Winterroth, aged 38 years, a glass worker, died at his home on Apple Alley following a brief illness. Besides his parents with whom he resided, are brothers; Daniel, and Conrad Winterroth and sister, Miss Katie Winterroth, all at home.

 WOVAL 19 Oct 1915 The funeral of a Polander, Joe Woval, aged 45, who met death in the ash pit at the B & O RR shops, occurred today at Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.

ZIMMERLY 28 Oct 1915 Miss Alice Zimmerly, aged 70 years, died this morning at her home on the Baltimore Pike following a short illness. She is survived by 5 sisters: Mrs John Shipley of CA; Mrs Cornelius Smith of OK; Mrs James Hartzell of St Louis MO; Mrs William R Deetz of Cumberland; and Miss Marshaline Zimmerly at home. Services are Saturday at her home and burial in Greenmount Cemetery with Rev Snyder.
