ALLEE 29 Dec 1915 William T Allee, aged 67 years, a retired carpenter, died of paralysis yesterday at his home 162 = Maryland Avenue, Cumberland. Besides his wife, a son, William Allee and a daughter, Miss Helen Allee survive. Also, these brothers, Edwin Allee of Chillicothe OH; Elmer Allee of Cincinnati OH; and 7 sisters, Mrs Charles Bennett of Washington DC; Mrs J W Sniffin of Marietta OH; Mrs Elmer Foote of Cincinnati OH; Misses, Mary, Cora, and Anna Allee of Marietta OH; and Mrs George Pinchenchant of Dayton OH. The funeral is from the home with services at Emmanuel Episcopal Church and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev Hicks officiating.

BAKER 04 Dec 1915 Sanford Baker, aged 55 years, died yesterday at the Western Maryland Hospital of pneumonia after several weeks of illness. The burial and services will be in Romney WV.

BENNETT 23 Dec 1915 Charles F Bennett Sr of Eckhart died Tuesday (21 Dec) after a short illness superinduced by a fall last month. Born in Bedford Co, PA on 7 Aug 1830; he came to this area at age 24 following the carpenter trade until retiring at an advanced age. His first wife died on 11 Apr 1865, and he is survived by these children; Mrs James Wonn and Mrs A L Porter of Eckhart; Charles and Cleveland Bennett of Eckhart; William and Burnham of Frostburg. He married Miss Anna Egan of Vale Summit MD in 1891, and she also survives. The funeral is from St Michaels Catholic Church in Frostburg.

BERRY 06 Dec 1915 Mrs Susan Horn Berry, a pioneer woman of Frankfort WV, and a daughter of Mr & Mrs Abner Horn, and a widow of James Berry who died 5 years ago, is feted by a wood cutting party of 11 men at her home. She had ten children, five of whom still are living; Mrs Sarah Baker, Mrs Anna Emmart, and George Berry of Frankfort, Thomas Berry of McCoole, and Jacob Berry of Cumberland. BIGAN 22 Dec 1915 Mrs Mary Magdalena Bigan, aged 52 years, a native of Cumberland, died on Sunday (19 Dec) at Indian Creek PA. A sister of Charles J and William Dahl of this city, and also, an aunt of Mrs Margaret Zihlman, wife of State Senator Zihlman. She was a daughter of the late Mr & Mrs Frederick Dahl. Her husband died several years ago. She is survived by these children; Edward and Cora Magdalena; and also 2 sisters; Mrs C Strickel of Mill Run and Mrs J W Cole of Leisenring #1; and brothers, Daniel Dahl of Meyersdale PA and Philip Dahl in the West. Services at Connellsville Catholic Church and burial in St Josephs Cemetery, there.

BLANK 03 Dec 1915 Miss Elsie Blank, aged 22 years, daughter of Mr & Mrs Samuel Blank, died Wednesday (01 Dec) of spinal meningitis after an illness of three days. She lived on the family farm, about 2 = miles north of Mt Savage. She is survived by her parents, and six sisters, Mrs Emma Patterson, Mrs Gertrude Patterson of Youngstown; Mrs Anna Pritchard of Frostburg; Ethel, Dorothy, and Thelma Blank at home; and five brothers, Earl and Russell of Youngstown; Edward of Frostburg; John of Pittsburgh; and Theodore at home. Her funeral and burial are at St George Episcopal Church and Cemetery with Rev Robert J Nicholson.

BORTZ 28 Dec 1915 Miss Ethel Bortz, aged 21 years, daughter of Mr & Mrs William Bortz of Cumberland Valley PA, died at Western Maryland Hospital following an operation for an ulcerated stomach. She was ill for about 6 weeks. Besides her parents, are 2 brothers, and 5 sisters; S W Bortz of Galesville WI; George L Bortz of Cumberland Valley PA; and Misses Mary, Isabel, Alwyn, Rose, and Dorothy Bortz, all at home.

BOSTON 27 Dec 1915 John Boston, formerly of Lonaconing, was found dead, hanging from the bars of a window of his room at the Sylvan Retreat yesterday. He was committed to the asylum only since Aug 1. Bed sheets were wrapped around the bars and his neck. The coroner determined that suicide by a broken neck was the cause of death. "Jack" Boston was 51 years of age and was termed deficient. His parents died years ago and he lived with a brother, Thomas E Boston, who conducts a meat market at Lonaconing. Another brother, Elliott R Boston is also an inmate at Sylvan Retreat. Three sisters also survive; Mrs Adam Nelson of NE; and Mrs John Richmond of Lonaconing and Mrs Mollie Richmond of NH; and brother William Boston of NE. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

BOYD 13 Dec 1915 Mr Robert M Boyd, aged 62 years, died 12 Dec 1915. Residing at Cripple Creek and Denver CO, a son of the late Thomas A Boyd of Detmold, he was the first mayor of Lonaconing. He married Miss Belle Kirkwood and has one grown son, Robert and one daughter, Helen. Sisters are; Mrs Agnes Kirkpatrick, widow of the late John Kirkpatrick; Mrs Henry Reidler of Lonaconing ; Mrs J B Middlecoff of Minneapolis MN; Mrs Lillian Anderson of Los Angeles; and brothers, John and James Boyd of Kansas City. Interment is at Denver.

BRANDT 29 Dec 1915 Mrs Lizzie C Brandt, aged 60 years, wife of Charles E Brandt, died of the grippe at her home, 147 Walnut Street. She is survived by her husband and these children: Stanley R Brandt of Duluth MN; Albert L Brandt of Cumberland; Miss Eva M Brandt, at home. Also these brothers and sisters; W H Head of Elkins WV; C R Head of Horton WV; Mrs W H Virts of Keyser WV; Mrs Ida Butler of Cumberland and Mrs August Wolfe of Keyser WV. Funeral is from the home with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

BULLOCK 14 Dec 1915 Mrs James O Bullock, aged 68 years, wife of Dr James O Bullock of Lonaconing, died at her home on Douglas Avenue yesterday after an illness of 11 weeks after falling on a rug in her home. She is survived by sons; Robin Bullock of NY and Julius Bullock of Princeville IL. Funeral services are at the M E Church in Lonaconing with Rev Thomas Wheeler and the body is to be shipped to Princeville IL for burial.

BURNER 30 Dec 1915 Mrs Tirzah May Burner, aged 34 years, died at Vienna VA of heart trouble yesterday. She was a Miss Pfeiffer, a daughter of J C Pfeiffer of the Western Maryland RR, now of Vienna VA, where the daughter was visiting. Her husband, E D Burner, employed by the B & O RR , received a postal card announcing the safe arrival of his wife and 3 children, and then, a telegram notifying him of her death. Besides her husband and parents, children, Lula, John and Walter survive.

CAGE 27 Dec 1915 Allen Leroy Cage, aged 11 years, a son of Mr & Mrs Daniel Cage of Virginia Avenue, died Dec 23 at his school in Owings Mills MD. The body is being brought to Cumberland for burial.

CARROLL 29 Dec 1915 Miss May Carroll, aged 72 years, died last night at the Allegany County Alms House of a complication of diseases. She had lived her for 10 years. The body will be taken to Frostburg, her former home, for burial.

CHANEY 06 Dec 1915 Mrs Margaret E Chaney, aged 61 years, widow of C Graham Chaney, died yesterday at her home, 7 Charles Street, Frostburg after an illness of four months of liver and kidney disease. Born at Cornwall, England, she came to America at age 10 years and has lived here since. All of her children survive; Mrs Clara Hart and Prof. Richard F Chaney of Frostburg; John F Chaney of Piedmont; and Mrs C E Stotler of Cumberland. Services at First English Baptist Church and burial at Allegany Cemetery.

CHAPMAN 17 Dec 1915 William Chapman Jr, aged 54 years, died Friday (10 Dec) at his home in Cincinnati OH. Born at Grantsville, he was the son of the late William & Rachel Chapman. Survived by his wife and two sons; also, sisters, Mrs Ella Snyder of N Mechanic St Cumberland; Mrs Jacob Kellar and Mrs Mollie Woodruff of Buchannan WV. Also, a niece, Mrs G M Zeller Jr of Frostburg and nephew, George A Mays of Cumberland.

CHEUVRONT 03 Dec 1915 Mrs Phoebe Cheuvront, aged 79 years, died Wednesday (01 Dec) at St Josephs Hospital, Baltimore. She is survived by two sons, Charles of Baltimore; and Edward of Cumberland; and one daughter, Eula of Riverside CA; and two brothers, Merser Hollis of Washington and George Hollis of McKeesport PA; and one sister, Mrs Kate Troupe of Thomas WV. The funeral is to be in Hillside MD.

CLABAUGH 22 Dec 1915 Fenton Clabaugh, aged 77 years, died at the Confederate Soldiers Home at Pikesville MD on Sunday (19 Dec). A native of Cumberland, he had lived on Decatur Street, but the family has been away from here for some time. He was an uncle of Justice Harry M Clabaugh of Washington DC, a former Attorney General of Maryland. The body was brought here for burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

CLISE 04 Dec 1915 Mrs Michael Clise, aged 56 years, died today at her home in Miller, near Midland from cancer. Prior to her marriage, she was Miss Mary A Winter. Her husband and one daughter, Mrs Alexander McGee of Midland, survive. Also, four brothers, Robert of Vale Summit; Elijah, Jacob, and Walter Winters of Midland and one sister, Mrs G Morten.

COLE 27 Dec 1915 Thomas Cole, aged 76 years, died of heart disease on Sunday (26 Dec) at his home on Lee Street. A resident of Cumberland for 20 years, he worked as a blacksmith for the Western Maryland RR at Ridgeley before retiring 6 years ago. He was a member of the Coles Cavalry during the Civil War. He is survived by his wife and children, William H Cole of Cumberland, an attorney; Mrs Mary T Frantz of Cumberland; Mrs A G Crabbe and Mrs George S Mullin of Hyndman. Services are from the home with Rev Joseph Dawson and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

COSGROVE 27 Dec 1915 John Cosgrove Sr, aged 48 years, died Christmas Day at his home in Detmold from pneumonia. A coal miner, he lived here all of his life. A wife and 3 children survive: John Cosgrove Jr of Pittsburgh who was with his father at the last. The funeral is from St Marys Church at Lonaconing and then to Frostburg for burial.

CREEL 17 Dec 1915 Mrs Sarah C Creel, aged 76 years, wife of E B Creel, a war veteran and retired RR engineer, died last night at her home, 429 Grand Avenue. Her husband and daughter, Mrs H L Snyder of Grand Avenue and a son of a prior marriage, W C Waterton. The funeral is from the home with Rev Frank C Killmon and burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.

CRUPPER 24 Dec 1915 Mrs Sarah Annie Crupper, aged 73 years, died last night at the home of a son , Charles Crupper, 309 Maryland Avenue. She was the wife of the late William Crupper. Death was caused by heart failure. She is survived by these children; Charles Crupper; Mrs James Jones; and Mrs Lewis Rice all of Cumberland; and Mrs Harmon Englehart of Pittsburgh. The funeral is from the home with Rev Wheeler and burial is in the German Lutheran Cemetery.

DAUGHERTY 13 Dec 1915 Mrs Mary J Geneva Daugherty, aged 65 years, wife of the late Patrick Daugherty, died at her home on Sunday 12 Dec 1915, at 226 Greene Street, after several months of illness. She and her husband moved to Cumberland several years ago from Frostburg. These children survive: Misses Marie J; Ella B; John F; and Robert Daugherty, all at home. Sisters, Misses Matilda and Anna Caton; and brother, Edward Caton. The funeral is at St Patricks Church and burial in Sts Peter & Paul Cemetery.

DAVIS 13 Dec 1915 Mrs Orpha Davis, 85 years of age, died Saturday (11 Dec). Born near Ridgeville on April 9, 1830, she married James F Davis in 1848, and has lived at Pleasant Dale, Romney, Antioch, and lastly, Keyser. Surviving are children; Mildred F of Cumberland; and Charles E and William S David of Keyser; and also a brother, J R Harrison of Keyser; and a sister, Mrs V E Ward of Bellefonte OH; and 25 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. Burial is in Queens Point Cemetery beside her husband who died 26 years ago.

DEFFINBAUGH 27 Dec 1915 Mary Jane Deffinbaugh, 2 years, 6 months, a daughter of Mr & Mrs Albert Deffinbaugh, died Christmas Eve of the croupe. Besides the parents, she is survived by a sister, Beatrice and brothers, George, Roy, James, John, and Paul.

DEVALL 06 Dec 1915 William Duvall, infant son of Mr & Mrs William Duvall died yesterday at home in Spring Gap after a brief illness.

DONAHUE 27 Dec 1915 Miss Julie Marie Donahue, aged 18 years, died Saturday (24 Dec) following a brief illness at her Beans Cove PA home. Besides her parents, Mr & Mrs William Donahue, she is survived by these brothers and sisters, James, Samuel, Thomas, Neil, Augustus, Thomas, and John Donahue; and Miss Emma Donahue. Services at the Catholic Church at Beans Cove and burial in the family cemetery.

 

DURR 24 Dec 1915 Mary Durr, aged 10 years, died at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore where she was taken for treatments. She had been living the past 4 years with Mrs Henry Struble of Linden Street. The father lives at Pocahontas PA.

ECKHARD 27 Dec 1915 Thomas Frank Eckhard, aged 74 years, of Irwin PA, died Saturday (24 Dec) at Western Maryland Hospital from cancer of the throat. The body will be shipped to Irwin PA for burial.

EVANS 23 Dec 1915 Charles H Evans, aged 41 years, died yesterday at Western Maryland Hospital of Brights disease. His wife and these children survive: Charleen, Beulah, Harold, and Glenn; and his parents, Mr & Mrs Francis Evans of New Martinsville WV; and these brothers and sisters; Mrs Pierce of Lancaster OH; Mrs Georgia Wyate of Wheeling WV; Mrs Nora Hayes of Charleston WV; and Henry and Clarke Evans of New Martinsville WV. He conducted a grocery store on Greene Street. The funeral is from the home on Union Street and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery,.

FEELEY 27 Dec 1915 Thomas G Feeley, aged 40, died today at Western Maryland Hospital where he was taken for treatment from the McKaig Foundry after he appeared there to get warm. He had suffered from dropsy and had slept in a box car the prior night. His wife and 2 step-children, Raymond Johnson and Miss Myrtle Johnson survive. Burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery.

FINZEL 22 Dec 1915 Edward Finzel, aged 58 years, died Monday (20 Dec) at his home in Finzel MD after an illness of 7 years. A native of Germany, he came to this country at age 1 and lived at Finzel all of his life. His wife and 5 children survive; Joseph Finzel of Frostburg; Henry Finzel of Finzel; Mrs John Warner and Mrs Ira Finzel of Frostburg; also, a brother, Mr Henry Finzel of Finzel; and sister, Mrs Conrad Keidel of Berlin PA. The funeral is from the home with Rev Edward Hochstetler, a Dunkard pastor, and burial in the family plot in Finzel MD.

GARVIN 18 Dec 1915 Edward Garvin, 54 years of age, died last night at the home of his sister, Mrs John Smith, 23 Beall Street, where he made his home. He had been ill for several months. A twin brother, Thomas Garvin died only 3 years ago. Surviving are 4 brother and 4 sisters; Mrs John Smith and Mrs John Boettner of Cumberland; Mrs Thomas Willett of Ridgeley WV; Mrs John Mullen of Pittsburgh; and, William Garvin of Ridgeley WV; Joseph Garvin of Borden Shaft; John Garvin of Pittsburgh; and George Garvin of Arkansas. The funeral and burial are at St Michaels Church and Cemetery, Frostburg.

GATES 07 Dec 1915 Mrs Arbizinda Gates, over 90 years of age, died Saturday (4 Dec) at the home of James Reese of McCoole. She had been a nurse for the Reese family for three generations and lived in the home as an invalid for the past few years. Burial in Greenwall Cemetery on Patterson Creek.

GERSON 10 Dec 1915 Martha Gerson, 16 month old daughter of Mr & Mrs Myers Gerson of 56 Ormond Street, Frostburg died yesterday after ingesting strychnine while playing in a bedroom with her four old brother, Samuel. The father is a merchant of Frostburg. Her parents, five brothers and three sisters survive.

GRADY 16 Dec 1915 The funeral of Mrs Ella E Grady, aged 59 years, who died yesterday at her home, 242 N Centre Street was held at St Patricks Church and burial in Sts Peter & Paul Cemetery.

GRAHAM 09 Dec 1915 Mrs Matilda Graham, aged 65 years, died yesterday at her home in Chicago. Her first husband was Mitchell McClintock and her second husband was Douglas Graham Sr. She is survived by these children; Mrs George W Davis of Johnstown PA and Mrs John R Meager of Wrights Crossing near Frostburg; and also William McClintock of Chicago and Jeremiah McClintock of Castleman PA. Services from Steins Chapel and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev Joseph Dawson. Obit article also 13 Dec 1915.

GROSS 29 Dec 1915 Henry J Gross, aged 65 years, died today at his home, 4 Miltenberger Street after a 4 week illness. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Johanna Gross. He was a member of the GAR and served in Co. B, MD 3rd Rgt.. Burial is in Frederick MD.

GUNNING 09 Dec 1915 Mrs Robert Gunning, aged 50 years, wife of Robert Gunning and only daughter of Mrs Catherine Hagle and the late John Hagle of Lonaconing, died Tuesday (7 Dec) at her home in Ethel WV. Mr Gunning is the son of Mrs and the late Prof. William Gunning. Surviving are; Mr Gunning; these children; William and Robert and Margaret, Stella, and Edna Gunning; and her aged mother. The funeral is from the home of her mother on Douglas Avenue, Lonaconing, and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev H L Earnst officiating.

HAGER 23 Dec 1915 James Hager, a 2 year old son of Mr & Mrs William Hager of Paca Street, died this morning after an illness of some time. Burial is tomorrow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

HARRIS 08 Dec 1915 Mrs John Harris, aged 73 years, died today at the home of a daughter, Mrs James W Lewis, 245 Welsh Hill, Frostburg. She had been ill since Friday with pneumonia. Before marriage, she was Miss Mary Ann Matthews, a native of Wales who came here 50 years ago, settling in Frostburg. Surviving are, two daughters, Mrs James M Lewis of Frostburg; and Mrs George F Walker of Denver CO and one sister, Mrs George Cotrell of Ellerslie; and 2 grand children and 6 great grand children. Pallbearers are grand children; Harry and Frank Dando; and George and John Lewis.

HERPICH 20 Dec 1915 Mrs Margaret Herpich, aged 77 years, died yesterday at the home of a daughter, Mrs Elizabeth Scheermesser of Independence Street. Her husband, Matthew Herpich died 56 years ago. One daughter, Mrs Nicholas Scheermesser; and these grand children; William A; Walter E; Raymond; and Charles Scheermesser and Misses Margaret and Anna Scheermesser and Mrs Phineas Getzendanner. The funeral is from St Lukes Lutheran Church and burial in the family lot of the church cemetery.

HOPBELL 28 Dec 1915 Mrs Mary Hopbell, wife of Henry Hopbell Jr of Lonaconing, aged 27 years, died of kidney infection on Sunday (25 Dec) in Miners Hospital, Frostburg. Before her marriage, she was Miss Mary Coleman, a daughter of Mrs Margaret Coleman, who survives, along with her husband and 6 small children. Also, 3 brothers, Gibson Coleman of Ben Rush WV; William Coleman of Star Junction PA; and Frank Coleman of Lonaconing.

HOWELL 19 Dec 1915 Thomas Watson Howell, 34 years of age, a miner of Barton was allegedly murdered yesterday by a bullet in the center of his head at the saloon of James McCormick of Reynolds. John McCormick and Joseph Winkler are arrested and are being questioned in the case. He is a son of the late Jefferson Howell who was a civil war veteran. He is survived by his mother, and 7 brothers and 4 sisters; Charles, John, Joseph, Henry,. George, William and Orval Howell; and, Mrs Henry Vaughn of Covington KY; Mrs James Clark of Barton; Mrs John Porter of Barton; and Mrs Charles Green of Frostburg. The funeral is from the home and burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. 21Dec1915 The conclusion is that this was a suicide at the "Red Onion" saloon.
JENKINS 28 Dec 1915 Abraham Jenkins, aged 58 years, died of miners asthma in Chicago IL last Friday (23 Dec). He was visiting a nephew, John E Chubb, a traveling salesman for the Griscom-Russell Co. of Chicago.

JOSE 18 Dec 1915 James Jose of Mt Savage died yesterday after an illness of several months. He worked for the C & P RR as a wreck master before retiring 10 years ago. He was twice married, survived by his wife, the former Mrs Derrick and a son, Thomas Jose of Dunbar PA. The funeral is from the ME Church with Rev R J Nicholson and interment in the Methodist Cemetery.

KEARNS 27 Dec 1915 Mrs Jacob Kearns, formerly of Cumberland, died last Wednesday (22 Dec) in Baltimore. She is survived by children: Mrs J F Bennett and Mrs George Seibert of Cumberland; Mrs Charles Kennell and Mrs Charles Shipley of Baltimore; Mrs A F Landert of Washington DC; and J M Humphrey of Washington DC; the funeral is from the home of Mrs T C Burken of Martinsburg and burial in the Green Hill Cemetery.

KENNEDY 16 Dec 1915 The funeral of Harris Harry C Kennedy, aged 34 years, who died yesterday at the TB Sanitarium on Haystack Mountain, was held at the home of a brother, Mr George Lindeman, 324 Virginia Avenue and burial is in Hyndman.

KEPHART 13 Dec 1915 Mrs Marie Kephart, aged 85 years, died at her home, 50 Decatur Street last night of a complication of diseases. Six children survive: Miss Mame Kephart; Mrs Katie K Withers; Mrs Bertie Dyche; Mrs Warren Mellinger; William Kephart; and Mrs Charles Steiner- all of Cumberland. Her husband, George B Kephart died 19 years ago. The funeral is from the home with Rev Martin L Enders and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. The pallbearers are, George Steiner, Woodward Dyche, and Warren Dyche- all grand children; and also, Vance Laney, Arthur Laney, and William DeVreis- all nephews.

LAWRENCE 15 Dec 1915 Edward J Lawrence, aged 30 years, husband of Eva Lawrence (nee, Wilhide) died in Pittsburgh Monday (13 Dec). The funeral is from his home, 2411 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, and interment was private.

LOHR 17 Dec 1915 Miss Nellie G Lohr, aged 23 years, of Allegany Mines, died on Wednesday (15 Dec) at the Homeopathic Hospital in Pittsburgh after an appendix operation. She is survived by her mother, Mrs Catherine Lohr and several brothers and sisters.

MacFARLANE 15 Dec 1915 Mrs James MacFarlane, aged 64 years, died at her home in Mt Savage yesterday following a 4 month illness of paralysis. She was born in Mt Savage, a daughter of the late James Baker and is survived by her husband and 5 daughters; Mrs Henry Rizer of Cumberland; Mrs Hugh Hinchcliffe of Cleveland OH; Mrs Albert Watchman of Pittsburgh; Miss Verna MacFarlane of Pittsburgh; and Miss Anna MacFarlane at home. Also surviving are 2 brothers; Lewis Baker of Mt Savage and Arthur Baker of Frostburg. The funeral and burial are at St George Episcopal Church at Mt Savage.

MALAMPHY 17 Dec 1915 Ormand Malamphy, aged 5 years, a son of Mr & Mrs M J Malamphy, died today at his home on Evitts Creek. The cause of death is whooping cough. Funeral services are at the home of J W Wolfe 24 Park Avenue and burial in St Patricks Cemetery.

MARKS 22 Dec 1915 Mrs Henrietta Marks, aged 72 years, died last evening at the home of a son, William Marks of Hazen, 7 miles from Cumberland. Death was due to a complication of diseases. Burial will be in Irwin PA>

MARTZ 01 Dec 1915 Mrs Gertrude Bertha Martz, aged 50 years, widow of Peter Martz, died today at Allegany Hospital where she was being treated for typhoid fever and pneumonia. Surviving are, an adopted daughter, a Nun in the Ursuline Convent at Lexington KY, and brother, Charles Helmstetter; and a sister, Mrs Frederick Moffly of Williams Street. The body was sent to her home, 290 N Mechanic Street and services will be held at Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

McATEE 17 Dec 1915 Mrs Ruby McAtee, aged 19 years, wife of Thomas McAtee of Oldtown, died last night at Allegany Hospital where she had been cared for only a few days. The body is at Stein Mortuary and to be transferred to Oldtown for services and burial.

MILLER 17 Dec 1915 Mrs Margaret E Miller, aged 87 years, widow of John W Miller, died Tuesday (14 Dec) of debility at the home of a son, William A Miller at Berkeley Station WV. She is survived by; two sons; James Miller of Millinger TN and William A Miller of Berkeley Station WV and a daughter, Mrs James Donaldson of Hedgesville WV. A brother, Armstead Wilson of Cherry Run WV and step-children, John R Miller of Shepherdstown WV and Mrs Lucas Appel of Cumberland.

MONTGOMERY 14 Dec 1915 J L Montgomery, aged 40, the General Manager of Sterling Cola Co of Daniel Boone KY, which is owned by the Mellinger brothers of Cumberland, and the former manager of the Union Mining Co of Mt Savage, was fatally injured in an automobile accident in Madisonville KY. He is survived by his wife and 2 children. Services and burial in Pennsylvania.

OSBURN 20 Dec 1915 Mrs Amanda Osburn, widow of Sylvester Osburn, a former resident of Cumberland, died last night at Youngstown OH where she made her home with a step daughter. Her husband died in the fall of 1913. Surviving are 4 children: Mrs Samuel Smith of Youngstown OH; William Osburn of Austrailia; Sylvester Osburn of Cumberland and Robert Osburn of Lula OK. The body will be returned to Cumberland for burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.

PAGENHARDT 06 Dec 1915 Mrs Lee Pagenhardts funeral was from the home of a sister, Mrs Powers of Piedmont on Sunday with services in the ME Church, South by Rev Compton Postern.

PATTON 15 Dec 1915 Mrs Henrietta C Patton, aged 71 years, died today at the home of a daughter, Mrs Jessie M Handell of Fayette Street Extended. These children survive; Alexander Patton of New Castle PA; Mrs Jessie Handell of Cumberland; Mrs Ruth Perry of New Castle PA; Mrs Katherine Straus of Youngstown PA and Claude and Oscar Patton of New Castle PA. The body was taken to New Castle Pa for burial.

PAUL 18 Dec 1915 Christian Paul, living at Sand Patch, died Thursday (16 Dec) after a one month illness. He is survived by his wife and 4 sons and 3 daughters.

PORTMESS 30 Dec 1915 John R Portmess, aged 58 years, a well known artist and photographer, died at his home last night on Altamont Terrace from a heart attack. Born in Hampshire Co, WV, he relocated in Michigan, Keyser WV, Parkersburg WV, and finally in 1908, in Cumberland. Funeral is at Central ME Church South, on George Street and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery..

RALEY 17 Dec 1915 Frank Raley, a child, who was badly scalded, died at Miners Hospital and the funeral was held from the home of Mr & Mrs Hannon Miller with Rev P G Saffron and burial in Allegany Cemetery.

ROBERTS 20 Dec 1915 Lemuel Francis Roberts, aged 59 years, died today at the Haystack Mt Sanitarium of tuberculosis. Born in Flintstone, he was the son of John E & Jane Roberts. He was a watchman for the Queen City Brick and Tile Co at Evitts Creek. His wife, the former Mary A Bennett, and these children survive: Vincent E; Samuel S; Thomas P; Lemuel Francis and Misses Mary; Edith; and Grace Roberts. Also, brothers; Elias Roberts of Flintstone; William Roberts of Hewitt PA; and Isiah Roberts of Mahaffey PA. The funeral is from St Patricks and burial in the church cemetery.

ROBERTSON 29 Dec 1915 Mrs Mary Robertson, aged 66, wife of Moses Robertson of Paw Paw, died yesterday at the home of a daughter, Mrs Walter Wilt of 22 Oldtown Road. Her husband and daughter survive. She was suddenly taken ill while on a visit. The funeral services will be in Paw Paw.

ROBINSON 20 Dec 1915 Uriah Robinson, aged 71 years, died Friday (17 Dec) at the family home, 176 W Main Street, Frostburg, following an illness of one week from pneumonia. He was born in Washington PA and came to Frostburg as a boy, and married Miss Elizabeth Lambert. He served in Co. A, 3rd MD and took part in Hunters Raid. These children survive: Mrs Clever Richardson of Frostburg; and George and Frank Robinson at home. Also, half-brothers, Webster Folk and Frisby Folk of Frostburg. The funeral is from the home with Rev M H Beidleman and burial in Allegany Cemetery.

ROHMAN 12 Dec 1915 Henry Rohman, 40 years of age, a former resident of Cumberland, was instantly killed on the Monogahela Connecting Railway of Pittsburgh where he was employed as a freight conductor. He is survived by his wife, Anna Murphy Rohman, and also brothers, Casper, John and Nicholas Rohman; and sisters, Mrs Charles Dahl and Mrs John Nehring, all of Cumberland. Burial to be made in Pittsburgh and services at St Stephens Church.

ROWE 27 Dec 1915 Mrs Elizabeth Rowe, widow of the late William Rowe, died at her home 14 = Fulton Street, aged 77 years. She is survived by these children: Fred W Rowe, a mail carrier of the city; Miss Margaret Rowe, a teacher at Centre Street School; and Miss Mazie Rowe, all at home. Services are at St Patricks Catholic Church.
SHAW 13 Dec 1915 Mr John H Shaw, formerly of Lonaconing, now of Washington DC and a son of Mr & Mrs George H Shaw of Barton and Frostburg. He married Miss Minnie Mulford and has several children.

SHEETS 06 Dec 1915 Samuel Sheets of Greens Addition, Westernport, died at his home Saturday (04 Dec) after an illness of several years. He was 59 years of age and a carpenter until a few months ago. A wife and 3 children survive: Mrs Annie Lyons of Spruce Street; Vernon Sheets of Kitzmiller MD; and a small daughter at home. Also several brothers and sisters survive.

STANDISH 27 Dec 1915 William Standish, aged 49, a former Frostburg citizen died at Ofalon MO last week. He was a son of the late John Standish and his mother was formerly a Miss Mary Ward. Surviving are a sister, Mrs William Ferguson of Pittsburgh and a brother John Standish of California. Burial was in Allegany Cemetery, Frostburg. STEALEY 06 Dec 1915 William Stealey, aged 61 years, a wreck master for the Western Maryland RR, died Thursday (2 Dec) at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore of paralysis. He was struck by a crane in the head several months ago, lapsed into a coma last Sunday, and did not recover. His wife and seven children survive: Mrs Bessie McKenzie of Dayton OH; Edward Stealey of Ridgeley WV; Misses Sarah, Anabel, Edith, Clara Stealey and Troxell Stealey at home. Also, sisters, Mrs Annabelle Hursey of Asheville NC; Mrs Emma Wiley of Waynesboro PA; Mrs T G Brady and Miss Fannie Stealey of Washington DC; and a brother, Nathan G Stealey of Clarksburg WV. The funeral is from the St Johns M E Church, South at Piedmont WV. Interment in Philos Cemetery.

TAYLOR 20 Dec 1915 Thomas Taylor, aged 72 years, died this morning at Allegany Hospital of pneumonia. He is a native of Ireland and was employed by the Georges Creek and Cumberland RR and also the Western Maryland RR. His wife died several years ago and he is survived by step-sons; George, Sam; and John Trost. The funeral and burial at St Patricks .

THOMAS 17 Dec 1915 Mr John Thomas, aged 48 years, died yesterday at his home on Douglas Avenue, Lonaconing, following a long illness. An unmarried son of the late William and Rebecca Thomas, he was born in his grandfathers log home, the late Mr & Mrs Richard Harvey, and lived here all of his life. He worked for the American Coal Co in the Jackson Mine. One brother and two sisters survive; Mrs Mary Howard, widow of James J Howard and Miss Annie Thomas and James Thomas of WV.

THOMPSON 11 Dec 1915 Mrs Hattie Thompson, aged 35 years, wife of William C Thompson, died yesterday at her home, 118 = Elder Street following a short illness. She is survived by her husband and several children.

TIMMONS 08 Dec 1915 Joseph Timmons, aged 76 years, died yesterday at his home, 129 Wood Street, Frostburg. Born in Staffordshire, England, he came to America at age 3 with his parents and settled at Mt Savage. He served 3 years with the Union in Co G, 2nd MD Vol, PHB, during the Civil War. He was a senior vestryman of St Johns P E Church after a career of mining. Surviving are children, John W; Isaac; George; and Walter Timmons and Miss Margaret Timmons and Mrs Carl Pfister of Frostburg; Mrs May Langford of Baltimore and also, sisters, Miss Fannie Timmons of Mt Savage; and Mrs Mary Jukes of Cumberland. The funeral is at St Johns M E Church and burial in Allegany Cemetery.

TIPTON 20 Dec 1915 Mrs Charles Tipton, aged 35 years, of Allegany Grove, died of abscess of the brain last night at Allegany Hospital. She is survived by her husband and 2 children. The body was taken to the home of her mother-in-law at Lavale and the funeral will be at Lonaconing.

 

WARD 01 Dec 1915 J B Ward, aged 82 years, died at his home at Dans Run WV after a lingering illness. Three sons and 4 daughters survive at Dans Run.

WELKER 08 Dec 1915 William W Welker, aged 40 years, died today at Western Maryland Hospital where he had been suffering from paralysis. A former resident of Keyser and owner of the Neptune Restaurant, the family moved to Cumberland on Laing Avenue since his illness. Surviving are his wife and these children; Lloyd, William W, Harold, Richard, and Blanche Welker. Also, a sister in Brunswick and one in Frederick. Serving in the Spanish-American War, he was in the Navy for 11 years on the battleship Oregon and in the Army for 4 years. The funeral is from the home, 118 Laing Avenue and services in the Central ME Church, South and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

WHITE 06 Dec 1915 Mrs Eleanor Eloria White, aged 60 years, wife of Lee White of Berkeley Springs, died yesterday at Allegany Hospital of Brights Disease. Services and burial in Berkeley Springs.

WHITE 15 Dec 1915 James H White, a son of Mr & Mrs Robert White of Lonaconing, died Sunday (12 Dec). His widow and 8 children survive. Services are from the home in Harperville, a suburb of Lonaconing, by Rev Stanley H Jewell and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

WINTERSTEIN 09 Dec 1915 Miss Minnie Winterstein, aged 20 years, daughter of Mrs Susan Winterstine of Ridgeley WV, died yesterday at Western Maryland Hospital from the effects of bichloride of mercury tablets. She is survived by her mother, her step-father, and five brothers. Funeral services at Calvary M E Church and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

WITT 23 Dec 1915 C N Witt, a former resident of Cumberland, died Tuesday (21 Dec) at his home in Detroit MI. He is a cousin of J George Zilch of Cumberland.

WOODS 27 Dec 1915 Thomas Woods, aged 8 years, a son of Mr & Mrs John Woods of Wood Street, Frostburg, died yesterday of diphtheria. The parents and 2 sisters survive. Funeral services by Rev W H Lindamood and burial is in Johnson, Garrett Co..

YAMMAN 27 Dec 1915 Mrs William Yamman died on Friday (24 Dec) and was buried form the home of a sister, Mrs Harry Land on Jackson Street, Frostburg and interment was in Allegany Cemetery.

YOMER 24 Dec 1915 Mrs William Yomer, aged 37 years, formerly of Lonaconing, died yesterday of heart trouble at the farm of her father, Mr Joseph Harris, near Cumberland. Her husband and one child survive. The body was taken to Lonaconing for services and burial.
