AKERS 16 Feb 1916 Keyser- Mr J C Akers, aged 80 years, died Monday (14 Feb) at his residence from pneumonia. A wife and eleven children survive at South Keyser.

AKERS 22 Feb 1916 Keyser- J C Akers, born at Fulton Co on 17 Jun 1836, married Miss Williams in 1869 at Everett PA, and came to Keyser in 1898, died yesterday. He is survived by 11 children; Edgar Akers of Carbondale OH; Marshall Akers of Brunswick MD; Mrs A J Allen of W Mansfield OH; Arthur Akers of Alliance OH; Mrs C R Owens of Shepherdstown WV; Mrs M B Baker of Washington DC; and Arlington Akers, Charles Akers, Chester Akers, Mrs Palmer Paris; and Mrs Bert Brennen of Keyser. Burial services at the ME Church in Keyser.

ALBAUGH 21 Feb 1916 Mrs Ida Albaugh, aged 56 years of Reynolds MD, died yesterday at Western Maryland Hospital following a brief illness. Burial is in Berkeley Springs WV.

ALLEN 04 Feb 1916 Piedmont- Edward Allen, a son of Mrs John Allen, was fatally injured while sledding as he ran into the automobile owned by Allen L Luke and died at Keyser Hospital.

BANE 24 Feb 1916 Keyser- Mr Daniel Bane, aged 83 years, a prosperous farmer died Tuesday (22 Feb) at his home near Burlington. Surviving are two brothers, Abner Bane and John Bane. Burial services at the Dunkard Church at Beaver Run.

BARRETT 03 Feb 1916 John Barrett, aged 21 years, a son of Mr August Barrett of Bean s Cove, died this morning at the home of J J Brooks on Columbia Street, following a brief illness. He was a car repairer for the B & O RR. He is survived by his father; and brothers, Harry and August Barrett of Cumberland; and = brother, Paul Barrett of Bean s Cove.

BLOCHER 16 Feb 1916 Frostburg- James W Blocher, aged 40 years, a Garrett Co. farmer, died at Miners Hospital yesterday from cancer of the stomach. He resides near Avilton and is survived by his wife, 4 brothers, and 1 sister; Bradford Blocher and Bruce Blocher of Garrett Co; Scott Blocher and Harry T Blocher of Chicago; and Mrs W Turner of Shade Mills. Services are at St Ann s Catholic Church at New Germany.

BLUBAUGH 28 Feb 1916 Frostburg- Mrs Mary Elizabeth Blubaugh, aged 83 years, died on Saturday (26 Feb) at her home at Wright s Crossing of old age. Surviving children are; Charles Blubaugh and Lee Blubaugh and Misses Mattie Blubaugh and Alice Blubaugh. Also, sisters, Rebecca Workman of Lonaconing and Mrs John Heban of Frostburg; and brothers, Mr Daniel Sheriff of Lonaconing and Isaac Sheriff of Cambria City WV.

BRUMBAUGH 17 Feb 1916 Mrs Ellen Brumbaugh, aged 65 years, 5 months, and 2 days, died at her home on Monday (14 Feb) on Railroad Street of dropsy. One adopted daughter, three grand children; and one step-sister and two step brothers survive. Burial is in the Hyndman cemetery.

BUELL 08 Feb 1916 Mrs Mary Eliza Buell aged 71 years, widow of James P Buell, died yesterday at her home at South Branch after a lingering illness of four years. Surviving children are; Mrs Sue C Koerner; Mrs Kate Swisher of Cumberland; Miss Maud Buell at home; T Lawson Buell of Patterson s Creek and 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Services at Springfield Presbyterian Church.

BUELL 09 Feb 1916 Dr M Catherine Buell died Monday (7 Feb) at Allegheny Hospital and the body was shipped to Marietta OH for services and burial.

BURKEY 28 Feb 1916 Corrigansville- Augustine Burkey celebrates his 81 birthday at his home in Corrigansville with his family and many friends. [Article has four paragraphs].

CANNON 11 Feb 1916 Mrs John H Cannon, aged 61 years, a wife of a farmer living at Rawlings MD, died today following a brief illness.

CLARKE 17 Feb 1916 Lonaconing- John Clarke, aged 57 years, died yesterday at the home of his brother-in-law, John Donald on Park Avenue from pneumonia. He moved from Barton only six months ago and his wife has been deceased only a few weeks. Surviving are five children; Edgar Clarke, Osborne Clarke, Harry Clarke at home; Mrs Frank Athey at Lonaconing; and Mrs Robert Guy at Reynolds. Also, four sisters and four brothers; Mrs D C Wenner of Cumberland; Mrs W E Donahue of Westernport; Mrs Edward Jones, R L Clarke, and George Clarke of Lonaconing; Miss Gertrude Clarke and Edward Clarke of Barton. Services at St Mary s Catholic Church and burial in Allegany Cemetery, Frostburg.

CROWE 03 Feb 1916 Frostburg- George Maxwell Crowe, aged 75 years, died yesterday at his home in Borden Mines. A Civil War veteran, he served in Co. C, 2nd MD Regt., Potomac Home Brigade. His wife and these children survive; Mrs Clark Neff; Mrs George Griffith; Richard L Crowe; Allen Crowe; and Oscar Crowe. Also, one brother, Luther Crowe of Frostburg; and one sister, Mrs Albert Stratton of Meyersdale PA.

DAWSON 24 Feb 1916 Keyser- William Dawson died yesterday at Hoffman Hospital following an appendix operation. A son of Mr & Mrs William Dawson on Mineral Street, he was a clerical employee of the B & O RR.

DEAN 22 Feb 1916 Mt Savage- Mr Vernon Dean of Pittsburgh died yesterday. A former resident of Mt Savage, he married four years ago to Miss Mayme Gallagher who survives with one son. She is a niece of J P Farrell who will leave for Pittsburgh with his daughter Mrs Michael Fannon for the funeral.

DESANT 24 Feb 1916 Keyser- Mrs Josephine Desant of Oakmont died of pneumonia at Hoffman Hospital on Tuesday (22 Feb). Her husband, Joseph Desant had just recovered from that illness. Two children are currently ill with it and one child died a week ago from it. Services are at the Church of the Assumption and burial in St Thomas Cemetery.

DIEHL 10 Feb 1916 S. Taylor Diehl, aged 67 years, a resident of Friends Cove PA, died at his home on Monday (7 Feb) at Charlesville PA from paralysis. He was the only son of Solomon Diehl. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Mattie Pennell and ten children, five of whom are still at home. Services are at the reformed Church there.

FATKIN 22 Feb 1916 Mrs John Fatkin of Borden Shaft, died at her home today following a short illness. She is survived by her husband and five children; Misses Jennie Fatkin, Mildred Fatkin, and John Fatkin, James Fatkin, Joseph Fatkin. Brothers and sisters are; Mrs John Ort; Mrs Martin Condry; Mrs Mary Price, and John Chapman, James Chapman, Joseph Chapman, George Chapman, David Chapman, and Daniel Chapman. Also, her mother, Mrs Jane Chapman. Burial is in Allegheny Cemetery.

FELTON 28 Feb 1916 Charles C Felton, aged 5 years, a son of Mr & Mrs Conrad Felton of 48 N Lee Street died last night of whooping cough. A younger son also suffers. Services and burial at Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church and Cemetery.

FITZPATRICK 01 Feb 1916 Lonaconing- Thomas Fitzpatrick, aged 34 years, died today at Allegheny Hospital of an ulcerated stomach. He was a dock boss at Ocean Mines. His wife and four children survive. His body was brought to the home of his father-in-law, Daniel Nolan, Big Vein Hill for services. His parents, Mr & Mrs Michael Fitzpatrick of Lonaconing; and these brothers and sisters survive: John of Pittsburgh; James and Matthew of Lonaconing; Mrs P Devine of Lonaconing; Mrs J B Lohr of near Mt Savage; and Genevieve, Nora, and Mamie at home. Burial services at St Mary s Catholic Church.

FOSTER 05 Feb 1916 Mrs Mary Foster, aged 85 years, a former resident, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs William Jackson at Marion IN on Thursday (27 Jan). She had fallen and broken a hip and complications set in. Another daughter, Mrs Laura Sailors of Marion and a son, George W Foster of Marion survive. Also surviving, a sister, Mrs Mary Hipp and a grand son, Albert H Rinker of Marion.

FOSTER 16 Feb 1916 Mrs Mary Foster, a former resident, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs William Jackson of Marion IN of injuries from a fall and a broken hip. Surviving daughters are; Mrs William Jackson and Mrs Tania Sailor of Marion IN; Mrs Carrie Sibley of McKeesport; and a son, George Foster of Marion IN. Services are at St Mary s Catholic Church.

FRANCIS 05 Feb 1916 Miss Grace Francis, aged 35 years, a former resident, formerly employed at Lazarus Millenary store and also, owner operator of her own millenary store on Frederick Street, died at her home in Germantown PA, near Philadelphia. Her death was self-inflicted with a tube placed in her throat connected to a gas stove. She had been engaged to a man who she had helped financially and discovered that he had been twice married and divorced. She is survived by a sister, Mrs James Warner of Pottstown PA; and an uncle, Jonathan Jamison of NY; and a cousin, William Jamison of Germantown PA. [Article has 10 paragraphs].

GARLITZ 23 Feb 1916 George W Garlitz, aged 56 years, of 17 Arch Street, died of a stroke yesterday. A wife and these children survive; Mrs Clarence Chaney of Frostburg; Mrs Thomas Wilhelm of Oakmont WV; Mrs Veindetta Crozier of Ontario, Canada; Miss Arminda Garlitz of Detroit MI; and Harvey Garlitz, Ira Garlitz, Enzer Garlitz and Thelma Garlitz at home. Services at St Mary s Catholic Church and burial in St Patrick s Cemetery.

GREENHORN 28 Feb 1916 Lonaconing- Mrs Alexander Greenhorn, aged 56 years, died Saturday (26 Feb) of apoplexy at her home on Douglas Avenue. Her husband and these children at home; Misses Alice Greenhorn and Ethel Greenhorn; and John Greenhorn; Thomas Greenhorn; and Alex Greenhorn. Also these brothers and sisters; Mrs Louis Speiers and Thomas Dixon of Nyssa OR; Mrs John McMillan and Mrs Vernon Adams of Pierce WV and Archie Dixon of Washington DC. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

HAMILL 05 Feb 1916 Eckhart- Mrs Amelia Hamill, aged 76 years, died Thursday (3 Feb) at the home of a daughter, Mrs Levi Carter. She spent her early life in Elk Garden and Westernport, moving here only 12 years ago. She suffered from Bright s disease the past four years. Surviving children are; Mrs A J Smallwood of Clarksburg WV; Mrs Levi Carter of Eckhart; Edward Hamill of Keyser; and also, a brother, William Whetsell of Elk Garden; and sisters, Mrs Charles Ervin of Elk Garden; Mrs Mary Burke of Gormania; and Mrs Margaret Baldwin of Mt Lake MD; and 12 grandchildren, with 3 great grandchildren. Burial is in the Porter Cemetery.

HARTMAN 10 Feb 1916 John D Hartman, aged 82 years, was killed last night by a B & O RR train, the Duquense Limited, at the Baltimore Street crossing. His wife died two years ago. A Union Veteran, he had applied for residence at the Old Soldiers Home in Washington DC. The remains are at the Butler Morgue for the disposition advice of relatives at Woodstock VA . Efforts to reach relatives failed so the burial is in Allegany County Cemetery.

HAUPT 19 Feb 1916 Mrs Kate Haupt, aged 67 years, formerly of Allegany Mines, died at the home of a son, George Haupt at Thomas WV. Also surviving are a son, Frank Haupt at Allegany Mines and a daughter, Mrs Charles Whetstone of Frostburg. Another son, the late Joseph Haupt was foreman of Keely Mine #2 of the Union Mine Company. Burial and services are at Thomas WV.

HERGOTT 07 Feb 1916 Mt Savage- Edith Hergott, aged 9 years, a daughter of Mr & Mrs Frank Hergott Jr, died yesterday from infantile paralysis, suffering since age 4 years. Surviving sisters are Barbara and Dorothy. Services at St George MP Church.

HILL 07 Feb 1916 Mrs Robert Hill, an aged lady and former resident of Frostburg, died on Friday (4 Feb) at Monongahelia PA. The late Thomas Hill of Frostburg was a nephew.

HORNER 09 Feb 1916 Henry Horner, aged 70 years, died of la grippe at his home 390 N Center Street yesterday. He had a shoe repair shop in the Weisbrod Building on N Center Street from which he retired after 35 years of work. He is survived by a wife and one daughter. Services and burial in Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

JEFFRIES 24 Feb 1916 Mrs Christine Jeffries, aged 82 years, died today at her home three miles east of Cumberland. The funeral is held at Mt Hermon Church.

JOHNS 21 Feb 1916 Frostburg- Mrs Mary Johns died last night at the home 18 E Main Street. She was the widow of Christopher Johns who died some years ago. She operated a restaurant and ice cream business on Main St until closing due to health. Surviving children; Misses Laverne Johns; Nellie Johns; Charles Johns; Leslie Johns; and Ellsworth Johns. Also, brothers, Peter Carroll of Frostburg and Joseph Carroll of B C Canada; and sisters, Mrs John Spates of Washington DC and Alice Carroll of BC Canada. Burial in St Michael s cemetery.

JOHNSON 17 Feb 1916 Lonaconing- Moses Johnson, aged 58 years, died at his home in Pittsburgh on Tuesday (15 Feb). He formerly lived at Lonaconing and was an engineer for B & O RR for 35 years. Besides his wife; he leaves five daughters; Mrs Mary Boyer; Misses Louise Johnson; Marian Johnson; Rebecca Johnson; and Anna Johnson; and also six sons; William Johnson; Charles Johnson; James Johnson; Robert Johnson; Edward Johnson; and Joseph Johnson.

KALAL 18 Feb 1916 Mrs Carrie Kalal, aged 38 years, a widow of Joseph Kalal, died yesterday at Haystack Sanitarium. Her husband died at the same institution on 29 Oct 1915. She is survived by these children; Michael Kalal; Misses Mary Kalal and Josephine Kalal, now living with their aunt, Mrs John Sedars of Mapleside. Also survived by her mother, Mrs Mary McKenzie of LaVale; a brother J A McKenzie of Cumberland; and sisters, Mrs John Sedars; Mrs Joseph Reitmier; Mrs James Leasure; and Mrs Edward Grabenstein. The funeral is at the St Mary s Catholic Church.

KARNS 11 Feb 1916 Charles P Karns, aged 40 years, employed by the Taylor Tin Mills, died following an operation for appendicitis at the Western Maryland Hospital. He is survived by a wife and two children. Also, brothers, William Karns of Cumberland; Amos Karns, Hiram Karns, and James Karns of Berkeley Springs; and a sister, Mrs Clark of Huntingdon WV. Burial is in Greenmount Cemetery.

KEAN 11 Feb 1916 James W Kean, aged 53 years, driver of the fire truck at Central Fire Station, died at his home, 94 N Center Street of heart disease today. He was a son of the late Patrick Kean and Mrs Mary Kean of 27 Beall Street. Surviving are, his wife and these children; George Kean in Mexico; John Kean of Beall Street; Patrick Kean of Oldtown; Mrs Ella Fisher of Beall Street; Mrs Mary Ann O Neil of Frederick Street; Mrs Kate Thomas of Paca Street; Mrs Elizabeth Morrissey of Pittsburgh. Burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery.

KELSO 21 Feb 1916 Mrs M C Kelso, aged 95 years, died at Chicago on Feb 15. The burial was at Bath, Ontario, Canada. Mr E B Miller of Cumberland was a nephew.

KENNELL 14 Feb 1916 Mrs Samuel Kennell, aged 64 years, died Saturday (12 Feb) at her home near Wellersburg PA from complications of a lingering illness. She is survived by her husband and these children; Mrs Frank Geatz of Wellersburg; Elmer Kennell of Connellsville; Henry Kennell and Clarence Kennell of Wellersburg. Burial is in the Geatz Cemetery.

KERNS 26 Feb 1916 Mrs Nellie Kerns, aged 75 years, wife of the late Abner Kerns, died yesterday at her home 511 Springdale Street of a lingering illness. Survived by these children; Jesse Kerns, John Kerns, and Mrs Frank Holler, all of Cumberland . Burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery.

KIRK 15 Feb 1916 Martin E Kirk, aged 31 years, died at the home of his father, James Kirk on Maryland Avenue after a three months illness. He was in charge of the concessions for the Hagenback-Wallace Circus, but left their employ due to illness. Surviving are his father; a sister, Mrs Edna Reed and a brother, Hugh Kirk in Omaha NE with the vaudeville circuit. Burial and services are in St Patrick s Catholic Church.

LEMMERT 09 Feb 1916 Mt Savage- Jacob Lemmert, aged 83 years, suffered a stroke on Sunday and died yesterday at his home. He was born in Metz, Germany, and came to this country at the age of 8 years, surviving children are; Christopher Lemmert; William Lemmert; John Lemmert; Jacob Lemmert; Charles Lemmert; Arthur Lemmert; Miss Alice Lemmert; and Mrs Joseph Neder- all of Mt Savage. Services and burial at St George MP Church.

LENOX 07 Feb 1916 Mrs Mary E Lenox, aged 79 years, died at her home in Savage, Howard Co., MD on Saturday (5 Feb). She was the mother of Mrs E D Colgate and Mrs B F Shaffer of Cumberland, and a sister of the late Henry A Coleman. Her husband, John H Lenox died three years ago. Other surviving children are; Mrs William B Hayworth and George A Lenox of Catonsville MD; Mrs Albert Biggs of Washington DC; Mrs A T Waskey; Mrs C W Haslip; and Miss Fannie Lenox; all of Savage MD and John D Lenox.

LEWIS 07 Feb 1916 An infant son of Mr & Mrs Thomas G Lewis of 700 Lafayette Avenue, died Saturday (5 Feb) and burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery.

LINDAUER 01 Feb 1916 Mrs Joseph Lindauer of Frostburg, a daughter of the late Sigmund Tanzer and Mrs Sigmund Tanzer of Philadelphia, died at Atlantic City NJ. She is survived by her husband and three small children and her mother and sisters; Mrs W Blumenthal; and Miss Gertrude Tanzer; and a brother, Earl Tanzer. Mr Lindauer has left for Atlantic City upon hearing the news. She was well known in Frostburg and Philadelphia and is related to most of the influential Hebrew families. She is buried at the Jewish Cemetery on the Baltimore Pike in Cumberland.

LOGSDON 03 Feb 1916 Allen W Logsdon, aged 48 years, of Huckleberry Alley, died last night of erysipelas. He was born 25 Oct 1897, and was the stable foreman for the Cumberland Brewing Company. His wife and three children; Leo, Joseph, and Elizabeth survive; plus two sisters and one brother- all residing at Mt Savage. Funeral services and burial in St Patrick s Catholic Church.

LOWERY 17 Feb 1916 Hyndman- Mr Joe Lowery, aged 35 years, died at the sanitarium of tuberculosis. A wife and four small children survive. He was a fireman on the B & O RR. Burial services are in Meyersdale at the Catholic Church.

LUMAN 18 Feb 1916 Solomon Luman, aged 80 years, a resident of Cumberland Valley, died Thursday (17 Feb) at his home near Centreville of a stroke. Twice married, he leaves a widow and two children; plus, six children of his prior marriage. Burial is in the Centreville Cemetery.

LYNCH 05 Feb 1916 Lonaconing- John Lynch, aged 55 years, died yesterday at his home on Jackson Street from an attack of La Grippe that lasted for ten days. His wife and one son, Samuel Lynch survive. Burial is in Oak Hill Cemetery.

MARTIN 28 Feb 1916 Keyser- Mr Solomon Martin, aged 74 years, was struck by a helper engine in the Piedmont yards last Saturday (26 Feb) and died at the hospital of the injuries.

MASCIO 25 Feb 1916 Frostburg- Mrs Tony Mascio, aged 47 years, of 53 McCullough Street died at her home yesterday. Her husband and four small children survive and one sister, Mrs Mike Romicomo of Kent OH. Burial is in St Michaels Cemetery.

MASON 02 Feb 1916 Hyndman- Mrs Sarah Mason, aged 38 years, wife of O N Mason, died Monday (31 Jan) of TB at her home. Her husband and three children; John, Minnie, and Clark; and her mother. Mrs Lavinia Speelman survive. Burial in the Cooks Mill Cemetery.

MATTINGLY 22 Feb 1916 Mrs Annie Mattingly, aged 73 years, wife of Henry Mattingly, died today her home in Narrows Park from pneumonia. She was born Miss Callahan in Scotland where her Irish parents were residing prior to emigrating to America and came with to settle in Mt Savage. She married 45 years ago and settled in the James Mattingly homestead, two miles beyond Ellerslie on the Wills Creek, moving to LaVale only 16 years ago. Surviving are her husband, a brother James Callahan of Dennison OH and another brother, the late John Callahan of Illinois was a deputy sheriff in Allegany County in 1877-79. A nephew, Rev Jerome Mattingly of Lancaster OH will celebrate mass at St Patrick s Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.

McGINNIS 24 Feb 1916 Keyser- Mr J McGinnis died Monday (21 Feb) at his home on D Street of Pneumonia and services are held in the home with burial at Queens Point Cemetery.

MORRIS 26 Feb 1916 Keyser- Lena Morris, 14 years old, daughter of Mr & Mrs Ervin W Morris died Thursday (24 Feb) at home on Vernon Street of Pneumonia.

MURPHY 16 Feb 1916 Midland- Miss Agnes Catherine Murphy, aged 20 years, daughter of Thomas Murphy, a former resident, now of Austen WV, died Sunday (13 Feb). Parents, two brothers and three sisters at Austen WV survive. Burial is at Neuburg WV.

NORTON 14 Feb 1916 Lonaconing- John Norton, aged 58 years, died Saturday (12 Feb) at home in Detmold following an illness of 9 months from cancer of the stomach. He was manager of the Ice Plant. Survived by his wife; and daughter, Jean; and sons, John Norton and Joseph Norton of Wendell WV; Gilbert Norton of Gunn WY; Reuben Norton of Reliance WY; and Albert Norton, Edward Norton, Robert Norton, Alvin Norton and Ernest Norton at home. Burial is in Oak Hill.

NORTON 25 Feb 1916 Thomas H C Norton, aged 69 years, a former B & O RR agent at the Greenspring Station, died yesterday at his home in Paw Paw of liver trouble from which he suffered for three months. He leaves a wife and several children.

O FLYNN 24 Feb 1916 Piedmont- Michael O Flynn, aged 45 years, a coal miner employed at Bloomington was found dead one mile west of Piedmont at WV Junction in the car shops of the Western Maryland Railway. He and nephew, James O"Flynn were sleeping in the shops and had been drinking heavily the prior evening. The medical examiner ruled extreme alcoholism as the cause of death. A practice of some men in the area was to prey upon foreign men by posing as revenue officers and arresting them and confiscating their liquor and sharing it among themselves. His body was moved to his brothers home in Beryl. [Article is of 4 paragraphs].

ORDNER 03 Feb 1916 Joseph Ordner died at Duquense PA on 29 Jan. He was 68 years old and leaves these children; Mrs Rebecca Noble; Mrs Minnie Taylor; Mrs Jacob Heckman and George and Paul Ordner- all of Duquense. A sister, Mrs Harry White of Hazelwood PA is a former resident of Mt Savage also. A late brother from Cumberland was George Ordner. Burial services at St Joseph s Catholic Church in Duquense.

ORRICK 08 Feb 1916 Mrs Charles James Orrick, aged 65 years, died at her home in Los Angeles, CA. She is a sister of the late A R Lewis and Jesse Lewis, prominent businessmen of Cumberland. Her surviving son is; Jesse L Orrick of Cumberland, and daughters, Mrs James M Sloan Jr and Mrs Virginia Carpenter of Riverside CA. Burial is in California.

PANCAKE 15 Feb 1916 Keyser- Mrs Ann Pancake, aged 77 years, widow of Andrew J Pancake, died Saturday (12 Feb) at the home of a daughter, Mrs E V Miller. Surviving children are; Frederick Pancake and John Pancake of Keyser; Andrew Pancake of New Creek; Mrs Edward Rogers of Flora IL; Mrs E V Miller and James Pancake of Keyser. The body was sent to Pancake WV for services and burial.

PORTER 07 Feb 1916 Mt Savage- Stephen Porter, aged 70 years, died last night at his home. An employee of the C & P RR for 56 years, he had retired only last Monday. Besides his wife, these children survive; John Porter of Pittsburgh; Douglas Porter of Hyndman; Albert Porter of Richmond; Lewis Porter of Mt Savage; Mrs Frances Little of Elkins WV; Mrs Leroy Goodrich of Cumberland; Mrs George Williams of Frostburg; Mrs Patrick Reynolds of Mt Savage; and also brothers, George W Porter of Mt Savage; and Andrew Porter of Lonaconing. Burial services at St Patrick s Catholic Church.

REDDINGTON 24 Feb 1916 Piedmont- Thomas Reddington, formerly of Piedmont, now of Weston WV, was buried Wednesday (22 Feb). He was a retired B & O RR engineer. The funeral was held at St Peter s Catholic Church and burial in the cemetery connected with the church.

REIDEL 19 Feb 1916 Israel Reidel, aged 74 years, died at Allegheny Hospital after a stroke one week ago. He followed the trade of a baker, but for several years, he and his wife were in charge of the Emergency Hospital which closed in 1915. He was a member of the Union Army serving from 1861 to the end of the war in Co. A; 93rd Rgt., PAV in the infantry.

RICHARDS 21 Feb 1916 Lonaconing- William Richards, aged 39, who operated a restaurant on Main Street for years, died of pneumonia last night. He is survived by a wife and three children; Thomas Richards, William Richards, and Emma Richards- all at home. Also, his parents; brothers, John Richards and Walter Richards of Lonaconing; and sisters, Mrs Emma McCormick of Barton Mrs John Guynn of Lonaconing; and Mrs George Whitfield of Lonaconing.

ROBINETTE 01 Feb 1916 Jasper C Robinette of 2 miles east of Chaneysville PA, died Sunday, January 30, at 82 years, 8 months, and 27 days, from old age. Born at Murley s Branch, he was the son of George F and Roseanna Robinette. He lived in Maryland most of his early life, moving to Southampton Township, PA, later in life. He was married three times; 1st to Roseanna Twigg with one child born of this union, and both are now deceased; 2nd to Elizabeth Rice of Murley s Branch and three sons born of this marriage, Henry, Mathias, and Francis. On 12 Jun 1869, he married Mary Roland, wh survives with ten children born; Michael of Everett; Cornelius of Lee s Creek OH; Alice, wife of DB Stone of Huntingdon PA; Emma, wife of A L Tewell; Elizabeth, wife of Frank Adams; and Julia, wife of George Adams- all three from Chaneysville; and Owen, Esther, and Cecil at home; plus, Ella now deceased. Also 40 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Also, tow sisters, Mrs William Golden and Mrs William Karns, both of Cumberland. He was a veteran of the Civil War, serving in Co. D; 2md Regt., Army of the Potomac. The funeral is at Chaneysville with Rev John Bennett and burial in the church cemetery.

RUBY 12 Feb 1916 Neri Ruby, aged 60 years, was killed in an auto accident three miles East of Cumberland on the Baltimore Pike returning to his home at Neri PA, near Elbinsville PA. While negotiating a curve at the brow of a hill near the farm of Eliza Nave, he applied the brakes and the car overturned twice, crushing his skull. He is survived by his wife and son, RR Ruby, and daughter, Mrs John Rummer of Virginia Avenue. Also, brothers, Marion Ruby of Elbinsville and Harry Tilden Ruby of Frostburg; and sisters, Mrs Luther Robinette; and Mrs McCormick Robinette of Utah City, UT; Mrs Oliver McCoy of Corrigansville; Mrs Ezekiel McCoy and Mrs John Norris of Cumberland; Mrs Asbury McCoy of Flintstone; and Mrs Frank B Davis of Neri. SCOTT 21 Feb 1916 Dr Buckner F Scott, aged 38 years, died at his home in Terra Alta WV today. He had been treating his illness for two weeks. Surviving are his wife; his parents, Dr & Mrs S M Scott; and one brother. He was a graduate of West Point and was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Spanish-American War.

SHAVINSKE 24 Feb 1916 Frostburg- Leo Shavinske died Monday (21 Feb) a brother, Stephen Shavinske survives. Burial in St Michaels Cemetery.

SOMMERVILLE 03 Feb 1916 John Sommerville III, aged 18 years, the only son of the late John Sommerville Jr and Margaret McAlpine Sommerville of Lonaconing, died of pneumonia at Annapolis while a student of St John s College. This ends a long line of family with the name of John Sommerville. Surviving sisters are Ruth aged 15 and Elizabeth aged 12. Uncles are William M Sommerville and Harry B Sommerville, both of Cumberland . Burial is to be in Allegheny Cemetery, Frostburg.

SPEARS 21 Feb 1916 Lonaconing- Mrs Jean McIndoe Spears, , wife of Richard G Spears of E Main Street, died of apoplexy. Her husband and these children survive; Miss Anna J Spears of Philadelphia; George B Spears of Hong Kong; Miss Ethel M Spears; William M Spears of Lonaconing; and James F Spears of Cumberland. Also, brothers and sisters; Mrs James Blackman of Beaver City NE; Miss Marian McIndoe of Lonaconing; Col. James F McIndoe in the US Army at Kansas City; and William A McIndoe of Lonaconing. Funeral is from the home and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

TABLER 25 Feb 1916 Jean Leora Tabler, aged one month and 22 days, daughter of Mr & Mrs Ralph Tabler of 245 Bedford Street, died yesterday of pneumonia. Two other children have whooping cough and one with measles and Mrs Tabler is ill too. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

VAN PELT 18 Feb 1916 Westernport- Mr Charles Van Pelt, aged 53 years, of Hammond street died Tuesday (17 Feb) from injuries he received three weeks ago from a fall of rock in the mines of Piedmont & Georges Creek Coal Co. He was born at Rockingham VA, on 05 May 1843, and was 52 years, 9 months and 12 days of age. A wife, a son, and three daughters survive. Burial is in Philos Cemetery.

VEIS or ZEIS 07 Feb 1916 Walter Veis, aged 12 years, a son of Lawrence Veis of Pinto MD, died at Allegheny Hospital following several days of illness.

WAGONER 10 Feb 1916 Keyser- Bernice may Wagoner, aged 5 years, daughter of Mr & Mrs Russell G Wagoner, died Tuesday (8 Feb) after an illness of diphtheria. Burial is in Queens Point.

WAGUS 05 Feb 1916 Midland- Henry Wagus, aged 75 years, who died on Wednesday (2 Feb) will be buried from his home at Koontz Addition and there to Vale Summit for the funeral at the ME Church.

WALTERS 26 Feb 1916 Charles Henry Walters, aged 44 years, died today at his home on Cresap Street from the effects of a life of being an invalid. His parents and two brothers survive, one at Ursina PA.

WARE 21 Feb 1916 Henry Ware, aged 57 years, a postmaster at Williams PA, was struck by a B & O RR tool car on Thursday and died yesterday at Western Maryland Hospital from injuries. He was well advanced in years and had defective hearing and walked into the approaching vehicle. His body was taken to Hyndman for burial in the Mt Zion Cemetery along the Bedford Pike.

WILKINSON 28 Feb 1916 Lonaconing- John Parker Wilkinson, aged 72 years, died today of a complication of diseases at the home of a daughter, Mrs William Brown of Gilmore. Also survived by sons; William Wilkinson of Franklin and Parker Wilkinson of Akron OH. Burial in the Morrison Cemetery of Reynolds.

WOODS 25 Feb 1916 Dorothy Woods, one year old daughter of Mr and Mrs J M Woods, died today at her home, 2 Averitt Avenue of pneumonia .

YOUNG 07 Feb 1916 Samuel D Young, aged 70 years, died yesterday at his home on Thomas Street of pneumonia. He was the superintendent of the Canal Towage Co boatyard. Born at Washington Bottom, he came here in 1879, and in 1872 married Mary May Canfield of Paw Paw, a daughter of the late Dr. Canfield. His wife and these children survive; Mrs E L Barnham of NY; Mrs William Kelly of Cumberland; John H Young of San Francisco; Lewis Young; Samuel D Young Jr; Fred Young; and Russell Young, all of Cumberland.
