ATKINSON 27 May 1916 Frostburg- Alice Atkinson, eight year old daughter of Mr & Mrs Charles Atkinson of Hope Road died today at Miners hospital from meningitis. Survived by her parents, and sister, Helen Atkinson. Burial in Allegany Cemetery.

BAGLEY 05 May 1916 Mrs Susan Jane Bagley, aged 90 years, the widow of William Bagley, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs Rebecca Brenning at Bedford. James Bagley of Cresaptown is a son. Services are in the Catholic Church of Bedford.

BARNES 05 May 1916 Lonaconing- Mrs J Frank Barnes died 15 April at her home in Illinois. She was a daughter of the late James Lochead.

BATH 11 May 1916 Frostburg- John Bath, aged 50 years, a native of England and former business man of Frostburg, died today at his home in Altoona PA. He conducted a pool room in Frostburg before leaving 12 years ago. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Mattie Mullan of Frostburg; and a daughter at Altoona PA. Also, survived by a brother Thomas Bath of Frostburg; and sisters, Mrs Robert Noel of Baltimore; Mrs Daniel Lapp of Homestead PA; Mrs Samuel Bowen of Carlton PA.

BENNETT 15 May 1916 John R Bennett, aged 46 years, died Friday (12 May) at Fairmont of paralysis. He was a son of the late Patrick Bennett of Fairmont. A widow; and one daughter, Miss Amelia Bennett; and his mother, Mrs Amelia Bennett survive. Services at St Peters Catholic Church- Fairmont.

BERRY 03 May 1916 Charles Robert Berry Sr. , aged 66 years, died yesterday at Miners Hospital Frostburg from injuries received as a mule kicked him on Sunday (30 Apr) at the mines at Barton. Surviving are his wife and these children; William Berry of Lonaconing; Edward Berry; Henry Berry; James Berry; and Miss Helen Berry all at home; Mrs Dohme of Lonaconing; and a daughter in Westernport. He had recently moved to Barton from Alaska WV. The body is at the Eichorn mortuary in Lonaconing. Burial in Oak Hill.

BLAKE 08 May 1916 Mt Savage- Angela Marie Blake, a three month old daughter of Mr & Mrs Joseph Blake of Mt Savage, died Saturday (5 May) and burial was made in the St Patricks Cemetery-Mt Savage.

BLANKER 26 May 1916 The three day old child of Mr & Mrs S W Blanker of 297 Columbia Street died today of heart trouble. Burial is at Rose Hill Cemetery.

BRANT 01 May 1916 Melvin G Brant, the 10 month old son of Mr & Mrs Charles Brant of Valley Road died yesterday after a brief illness. Burial in Bald Hill Cemetery.

BRENNAN 29 May 1916 Mrs Ellen Brennan, an aged lady of Lonaconing, was found dead in her bed today. Death is thought to have occurred on Friday (26 May). She had suffered heart troubles. She is survived by her daughters, Mrs Elizabeth McPartland of Lonaconing; Miss Mary Brennan of the Eastern Shore; and sons, Edward Brennan of the US Army; and John Brennan and Neal Brennan of NY. Burial in St Michael_s Cemetery.

BROWN 16 May 1916 Frostburg- Mrs Floyd Brown, formerly Miss Kate Davis of Grahamtown, died Saturday (13 May) at Wheeling WV. Her mother, Mrs W L Davis lives in Amsterdam OH now. A sister, Mrs Arthur Rizer lives in Frostburg.

CALLAN 16 May 1916 John Callan, aged 87 years, of Little Orleans, died at his home May 09 after a five week illness. His widow and these children survive; Mrs George McDaniel of Little Orleans; Mrs John Manious and Mrs Charles Hershey, both of Hagerstown; and John Callan of Pittsburgh; James Callan of Hagerstown and George Callan of Cincinnati OH.

CAREY 24 May 1916 Piedmont- Mrs Margaret Carey, a widow of the late B&O RR engineer James Carey, died today at her home on Fairmont Avenue after a month of illness. She is survived by her mother, Mrs Bridget Carney who lived with her; her husband; and three sons, Francis Carey; Joseph Carey; and Emmet Carey; and one daughter, Evelyn Carey. Also, brothers, John Carney of Cumberland; and Michael Carney and Thomas Carney of Piedmont; and one sister, Mrs Joseph Carbine of Hagerstown. Burial services at the St Peter_s Catholic Church.

CARNEY 01 May 1916 Mt Savage- William Carney, former resident of Mt Savage for 50 years, died at his new home in Youngstown OH. He is survived by his widow, the former Miss Catherine Dolan and two daughters all of Youngstown. Also, a sister, Mrs Anna McHugh of Cumberland; and brothers, Michael Carney of Nebraska and Thomas Carney of Cumberland.

CARPENTER 25 May 1916 John Carpenter, aged 72 years, died Tuesday (24 may) at his home in Hyndman after a lingering illness. He was a medicine salesman in the area. Surviving are his wife; one son, Howard Carpenter in OR; also, three brothers, William Carpenter of Hyndman; Samuel Carpenter of Mann_s Choice; and Abe Carpenter in the west. The funeral is in Hyndman.

CARPENTER 25 May 1916 Dr George Henry Carpenter, aged 73 years, a native of Mount Craford VA, died yesterday at Allegany Hospital. He had a practice of medicine at Moorefield WV; at Sydney IA; and at Cumberland MD during the years. He had married Miss Hannah Susan Heishell who died several years ago. Hi is survived by these children; Dr James H Carpenter of Salisbury MD; Rex G Carpenter of Monticello KY; Mrs G Marshall Everson of Pittsburgh; Mrs Louis J Hawkins of Charleston WV; Mrs Sallie E Chambers; and Mrs R McNeill of Moorefield WV. CLOSE 24 May 1916 Mrs Grace Close, aged 21 years, wife of Everett Close of Centerville P A and is survived by her father, her husband, and a two month old child. Burial services in the Centerville Lutheran Church.

CONLEY 01 May 1916 Thomas Conley, aged 53, from the Pittsburgh area, died today at Western Maryland Hospital of rheumatism. The body is being held at John C Wolford's undertaking establishment until brother, Patrick Conley, also of Pittsburgh, can be reached.

CROMWELL 19 may 1916 Oliver Cromwell, aged 81 years, formerly a general foreman of B & O RR shops at Cumberland, died in Elm Grove near Wheeling WV. He is survived by a wife and three sons and three daughters; Samuel Cromwell, Benjamin Cromwell, and Hobart Cromwell and Mrs Nellie Glaser; Misses Blanche Cromwell and Edith Cromwell - all of Elm Grove. The late A J Cromwell of Baltimore and the late George W Cromwell, Chief of Police at Cumberland were brothers.

DARNELL 23 May 1916 Mrs Thomas L Darnell, 86 years of age, died at Raleigh NC on Sunday (21 May). Mr Darnell died several years ago and had operated a photo studio while living here. Mrs Darnell was a native of VA and had moved with her husband to Washington DC after the war and conducted a dry goods store. She is survived by these children; Lewis Darnell of Cleveland; William W Darnell of Radford VA; Victor Darnell of Washington DC; and Mrs Rose Morgret, wife of William A Morgret of Cumberland; Mrs Herbert Lewis of Washington DC; Mrs A J Thomas; and Misses Maude Darnell, Bertie Darnell; and Lucy Darnell of Raleigh. Burial is to be in Raleigh with her husband with a likely removal of both at a later date to the family plot in Washington DC.

DAWSON 11 May 1916 Keyser- Mr & Mrs Henry C Dawson, formerly of Barton, now of Reese_s Mills WV, celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. A loving cup, which is engraved May 10, 1866-May 10, 1916, was presented by their children: Lillie, Leonard; James; John; Edith; Emma; Edna; Clarence; Ernest; Samuel; Ora; and Ida. DEAN 15 May 1916 George Dean, aged 20 years, of Brunswick MD, died Saturday (13 May) at Allegany Hospital following an illness of long suffering and from pneumonia. Burial services at Brunswick.

DRUMMOND 27 May 1916 Frostburg- Patience Virginia Drummond, a five year old daughter of Mr & Mrs James Drummond died today at Miners Hospital where she was operated upon for decay of the leg bone. She is survived by her parents and sisters, Margaret Drummond and Alice Drummond.

ERNST 15 May 1916 Mrs Dora Ernst, aged 21 years, a daughter of Mr & Mrs Robert Walsh of Borden Mines was shot and killed by her husband, William H Ernst, aged 23 years, at her home in Pittsburgh. They were married for two years and had an adopted daughter. Besides her parents; these siblings survive; Emmet Walsh; Gilbert Walsh; Clifford Walsh; and Prentice Walsh of Borden Mines; Mrs Andrew Siefert of Frostburg; Mrs Luther Yeider of Hoffman Mines; and Miss Alma Walsh at home. FLETCHER 17 May 1916 Miss Florence Fletcher, aged 22 years, a daughter of Baltzer Fletcher, died Sunday (14 May) at Bedford PA. She is survived by her mother and one brother.

FOSTER 16 May 1916 George Foster, a Mt Savage native formerly living in Cumberland, died Wednesday (10 May) in Marion IN. His mother died recently and he is survived by sisters; Mrs Richard Sibley of McKeesport; Mrs Laura Sarton of Marion OH; and Mrs Dora Jackson of Urica OH.

GEPHART 19 May 1916 Oliver C Gephart, aged 97 years, died today at his home on Washington Street. A native of Charlestown WV, he came to Cumberland at age 15. His late wife was a Miss Mary Wagoner. He is survived by daughters, Mrs Henry C Gillette and Miss Susan M Gephart- both residing with their father; and a son, George F Gephart of Bedford Street. [ Photo and article of five paragraphs].

GLASS 19 May 1916 Mrs John Glass, aged 19 years, of Berlin PA, died today at Allegheny Hospital after re-entering following a operation performed in January. The body is at Stein_s mortuary pending word from relatives.

GRIFFITH 19 May 1916 Frostburg- David Alexander _Buster_ Griffith, aged 3 years, a son of Mr & Mrs D I Griffith of 30 Hill Street, died yesterday of cerebral meningitis after an illness of five weeks. Burial in Allegheny Cemetery.

GRINDELL 13 May 1916 Frostburg- William Harold Grindell, aged 3 years, a son of Mr & Mrs Howard Grindell of Grahamtown died today of pneumonia. Burial is in Allegany Cemetery.

HINKLE 11 May 1916 Mrs Gertrude Hinkle died at Harpers Ferry yesterday. She had just returned from Baltimore having had treatments. A daughter, Mrs Victor Smith of South Branch and an adopted daughter, Miss Mary Hinkle of Cresaptown survive.

HOLZEN 29 May 1916 Bernard Holzen, aged 26 years, died May 21,1916.

HOWARD 15 May 1916 Edward S Howard, a businessman of Piedmont, died Saturday (13 May) at the home of a sister, Mrs John F Finan of Decatur Street. The funeral is from ST Patrick_s Church. [Article is 5 paragraphs].

HUFF 27 May 1916 Frostburg- Ida D Huff, a six week old daughter of Mr & Mrs Benjamin Huff of Grahamtown, died yesterday of infantile problems. Burial in Allegany Cemetery.

HUNTER 12 May 1916 Mrs Harriet A Hunter, aged 68 years, died yesterday at Washington DC. She is survived by two sons and four daughters. The late James A Milholland was a brother. Burial is in Washington DC.

ISANOGLE 03 May 1916 A. Baker Isanogle, aged 38 years, a resident of Martinsburg, died at Atlantic City, NJ on Saturday (29 Apr). A son of the late Joseph Isanogle and Mrs E J Isanogle, he was in the hotel business for many years. He formerly managed the Windsor Hotel when owned by C C Cox. He is survived by brothers, John Isanogle in Washington DC and Henry Isanogle in Columbus OH. Burial is in Green Hill Cemetery, Martinsburg.

JOHNSON 03 May 1916 Mrs Mary Johnson, aged 47 years, wife of Charles S Johnson of the Cumberland Police Force, died at her home, 127 Madison Street following a two year illness. She is survived by her husband; a son, Frank Johnson; and daughters, Mrs Doyle Roby of Baltimore; Mrs Walter Reihl; and Misses Margaret Johnson and Pearl Johnson. Also, a brother, Lewis C Shaw of Frederick Street; and sisters, Mrs R W Stewart of Elgin IL; Mrs S E Hearth of Frederick Street; Mrs Elmer Rice and Miss Elizabeth Shaw of Spring Street. She had been married 30 years yesterday. Burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

KING 17 May 1916 Joseph R King, aged 62 years, a former resident, died Sunday (14 May) at his home in Leadsville WV. Born at Rochester NY in 1854, he is survived by a wife and six children; Hallie King; Alberta King; Carl King; Cecil King; Joseph King; and Edith King. Also surviving brothers and sisters; James King of Cumberland; John King of Paw Paw; Mrs Lizzie Farlow of Paw Paw; Mrs Marlow Ambrose of Maplewood Gardens, Elkins.

LANGFORD 06 May 1916 Frostburg- Thomas Langford, aged 39 years, died today at his home on Grant Street of a general breakdown. A native of Wales, he came here 22 years ago and was in the grocery and feed business. A wife and three children survive; Cope Langford; Jeanette Langford; and Elson Langford. Also, a brother, Allen Langford of Frostburg and a sister, Mrs John Cook of Frostburg survive. Burial in Allegany Cemetery.

LEASURE 29 May 1916 Warren Leasure, 2 years old died on May 20, 1916.

LEIGHTY 15 May 1916 Freeman Leighty, aged 58 years, died at Confluence on Saturday (13 May) following an operation. His wife and one daughter survive. Also surviving, sisters, Mrs George King and Mrs Tillie Hart of Mt Lake Park.

LEWIS 26 May 1916 Bessie May Lewis, aged 32 years, colored, a daughter of Mrs Magnolia Denmark of Cumberland died Tuesday at her home in Washington PA. Burial is from her mother_s home, 13 Ann Street with burial at Sumner Cemetery.

LOAR 12 May 1916 Mrs Elizabeth Loar, aged 83 years and 27 days, of North Glade, died Tuesday (9 May) of old age ailments. She was born in Allegany County (now Garrett Co.) On April 12, 1833. Her funeral was yesterday.

LONG 24 May 1916 Katie Long, aged 80 years, widow of Isaac Long, died Tuesday (23 May) at her home in Daniels Mills WV. She is survived by daughters, Mrs Benjamin Largent of Daniels Mills; and Mrs Mary Lease of Pinto MD; and four sons, M A Long; and Philip Long; both of Ocean MD; and Thomas Long and Jesse were brothers.

MARTINS MOUNTAIN 29 May 1916 A bus from Flintstone to Cumberland ran out of control descending Martin Mountain. The driver opened the door and announced to the passengers to jump. Badly injured, was Ella Beck aged 22, a daughter of Daniel Beck of Baltimore Pike. Also injured were Samuel P Berry, aged 65 of Flintstone and Alonzo Bucy of Flintstone. Uninjured passengers who did not jump were W P Lough, Consor Kifer and Richard G Bucy of Gilpin; Raymond Perdew of Pratt; and Walter Anderson of Cumberland; and driver Allen Murray of Mt Savage.

MATT 15 May 1916 Joseph G Matt, aged 58 years, proprietor of the Palace Hotel, 214 N Center Street died on Sunday (14 May) following an eight week illness. He is a son of the late John T Matt and of Caroline Matt, who survives. He is survived by a son, Carl Matt; and three daughters, Mrs J W McGraw; Mrs Preston H Holmes; and Miss Lura Matt. Also, bothers; John T Matt of Everett PA; Frank Matt and George Matt of Cumberland; and sisters, Mrs Harriett Price and Mrs Elizabeth Montel- both of Parkersburg; Mrs Frank G Lippold of Greene Street; and Mrs Ignatius B Stagmeier of N Centre Street; and Miss Theresa Matt of Cumberland. Mr Matt survived his wife by only 16 months, as she died Jan 14, 1915. Burial in Sts Peter & Paul Cemetery.

McBRIDE 12 May 1916 Albert McBride, aged 72 years, died on Wednesday (10 May) at the home of a daughter, Mrs Arch Longerbeam at the Six Mile House on the National Pike. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs Arch Longerbeam and Mrs Milton Claycomb of Ft Wayne IN. Burial is at Cook_s Mills PA.

McCANN 25 May 1916 Pittsburgh- Christopher McCann, aged 73 years, died Monday (22 May) and burial mass was at St Johns Catholic Church.

McDONALD 26 May 1916 James Wilson McDonald, aged 42 years, a native of IL and a yard brakeman at the WMRR, was found dead today between the tracks near Virginia Avenue. He is survived by his wife, the former Anna Fazenbaker of Keyser, and a daughter, aged 16 on Potomac Street. Also, brothers, William McDonald an attorney at Keyser; John McDonald and David McDonald attorneys in OK; a sister, Belle McDonald a nurse at Keyser; and Mrs O F Smith of Pittsburgh. McDOWELL 25 May 1916 Pittsburgh- Eliza A McDowell, a daughter of Janet Ross McDowell died Sunday (21 May) at the residence, 513 Federal Street in McKeesport. Burial n Ridgeland Cemetery.

McFERREN 23 May 1916 Alexander McFerren died in Washington DC on Sunday (21 May). He was a son of the late John McFerren, who had moved to Cumberland in 1808 with his family. He is survived by a son, Charles McFerren of Riverside Place. Burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery.

McKENZIE 29 May 1916 Mrs Harriet A McKenzie, wife of Daniel R McKenzie of Cresaptown died Saturday (27 May) following a brief illness. These children survive; Mark C McKenzie; Thomas McKenzie and Beulah McKenzie. Also brothers, M M Greenwade of Cincinnati OH; and D T Greenwade of Keyser. Burial in Queens Point Cemetery.

McKONE 17 May 1916 Westernport- Joseph J McKone, aged 59 years, died yesterday at his home in Westernport following a six month illness. A native of Cumberland, he was once employed by the James Clark Distillery Co before beginning a candy business in Piedmont. Surviving are a wife and two sons; J J McKone of Tunnellton WV; Wilmont McKone of Westernport; and a daughter, Mrs Thomas Whalen at home. Also, four sisters, Mrs M P Kearney of Hot Springs AR; Mrs Emma Knell of Baltimore; Mrs Charles P Harvey of Parkersburg WV; and Miss Ellie McKone of Piedmont. Burial in St Peters Church of Westernport.

McMULLEN 05 May 1916 Mrs Ella McMullen, a sister of Denton Smith of Belle Grove, died in Altoona PA aged 63 years.

MOWERY 26 May 1916 Mrs Miranda Mowery, aged 45 years, died yesterday at her home 1016 Virginia Avenue following a long illness. Twice married, her first husband was the late Jacob Kessler. She is survived by her second husband, Solomon Mowery; a son, Jacob Kessler; and a daughter, Mrs Russell Swartley. Burial is at Rose Hill Cemetery. WERTZ 26 May 1916 Miss Melvina Wertz, aged 73 years, died yesterday at the home of a sister, Mrs S W Oster of Cumberland Valley PA. Surviving are sisters, Mrs S W Oster; Mrs Anna Oster; Mrs Amanda Smith; Mrs Rachel Mauk; and Mrs Mary Beagle. Burial services at the Bortz Lutheran Church in Cumberland Valley.

NATHAN 29 May 1916 Grantsville- Justice Peter Nathan died 25 May at home of paralysis. He was 69 years of age and unmarried. Survived by brother, Michael Nathan of Grantsville; and sisters, Mrs Margaret Fuller of Detroit MI and Mrs Mary Miller of Grantsville. Burial in Grantsville Cemetery.

NEDROW 04 May 1916 _Hague_ Nedrow, a son of Mr & Mrs J H Nedrow of Garrett, an assistant manager of the RR Station at Garrett, leaped from the train at the Garrett station and was killed this morning as the train was traveling rapidly and he hit his head on an obstruction. He was returning from a trip to Rockwood to visit his sweetheart on the # 90.

NICHOLSON 11 May 1916 Richard H Nicholson, a two year old son of Mr & Mrs Herbert Nicholson of Somerset PA died today at Western Maryland Hospital from meningitis tuberculosis. Burial to be in Somerset PA.

NOLTE 05 May 1916 Louis Conrad Nolte, aged 69 years, died at Warwood, a suburb of Wheeling WV, where he moved from Cumberland some 33 years ago. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Ella Ellsworth of Wheeling, and six children. He was a relative of Harmon Nolte of the Cumberland Police Force.

O'BRIEN 03 May 1916 John O'Brien, aged 89 years, died yesterday at the home of son-in-law Dominick Sebold, 283 Columbia Avenue from his infirmities. He was retired for 16 years as a B & O RR bookkeeper. He leaves four children; Mrs Dominick Sebold; Miss Bridget O'Brien of Connellsville; John O'Brien of Roanoke VA; and Martin O'Brien of Newark OH. Burial is in St Patrick's Cemetery.

 O'DANNELL 09 May 1916 Frostburg- Mrs Edward O'Dannell, aged 86 years, died today at her farm in Vale Summitt. She was formerly, Miss Elizabeth Winters and is survived by one sister, Mrs Hector Stewart of Baristown IA. Nieces living in the Allegany County area are; Mrs C H McEvay of Cumberland; Miss Mary E Winters and Mrs J N Frantz of Cumberland and Miss Ethel Winters of Frostburg.

OATES 23 May 1916 Frostburg- William T Oates, aged 92 years, died at Meyersdale PA on Friday (19 May). A native of Cornwall, England, he lived in America for 70 years. He resided here until 27 years ago and was employed as a carpenter. He is survived by a son, John Oates of Meyersdale; and a sister, Mrs Simeon Hooking of Johnstown.

OLIVER 23 May 1916 Mt Savage- Benjamin Oliver. Aged 2 months, a son of Mr & Mrs Bert Oliver, died on Saturday (20 May). The burial is in the Methodist cemetery.

PAUL 06 May 1916 Miss Mary Paul, aged 90 years, died yesterday of dropsy. A brother, John Paul and a sister, Miss Anna Paul survive. Funeral services are at the P E Church.

PERCY 10 May 1916 James Horfer Percy, aged 77 years, died yesterday at his home, 3 Charles Street o f heart trouble. He was born near the Six Mile House and was a son of James and Eleanor Clary Percy. For a number of years, he and sons James and John operated a large sand bank near the Six Mile House, where he owned about 300 acres of land. He was a nephew of the late Judge Douglas Percy of Frostburg and a cousin of Mrs William H LeFevre of Cumberland. He is survived by a wife, the former Miss Louise Cruikshank of Harrisburg PA; and two daughters, Miss Eleanor Swan Percy, a graduate nurse; and Miss Louise Gilpin Percy; and also a sister, Mrs Sidney Wolfe of Washington DC. PERCY 19 May 1916 Mrs Anna Elizabeth Percy, aged 72 years, widow of William Percy, died today at the home of a daughter, Mrs E Gladstone Hitchens, 65 Union Street from pneumonia. Mr Percy was drowned in the C & O Canal on May 26, 1897. A native of Indiana PA, she is a daughter of the late Rev Henry Bishop who performed her marriage on April 23, 1867. Surviving are a son, George Percy of Columbus OH; and two daughters, Mrs E Gladstone Hitchens and Mrs Rosamond Edwards, wife of Upton B Edwards of Frostburg. Also, a sister, Mrs William A Warner of Detroit MI; and sisters-in-laws, Mrs Douglas P LeFevre and Mrs Douglas G Percy of Cumberland . Nephews include, John K Shaw Sr of Shaw Coal Co and Charles Shaw.

PHILLIPS 25 May 1916 Eckhart- Thomas G Phillips, aged 52 years died yesterday after a five year battle with cancer. His wife and these children survive; Hattie Phillips of Elkins WV; Amelia Phillips, Leona Phillips, Ella Mae Phillips, Fayette Phillips, Catherine Phillips, Charles Phillips, Thomas Phillips, Andrew Phillips, and William Phillips - all of Eckhart. Also, a brother, Eli Phillips of Frostburg; and sisters, Mrs Clara Dolan of Stone KY; Mrs Jane Williams of Cumberland; and Mrs Frank Cleveland of Springport IN. Burial is in Allegheny Cemetery.

PURINGTON 13 May 1916 Frank W Purington, aged 36 years, died yesterday at Haystack Mountain T B Sanitarium. Two brothers survive, G D Purington and E E Purington. Burial is at Rose Hill Cemetery.

RAMSEY 11 May 1916 Mrs Jeremiah Ramsey, aged 86 years, a former native of Frederick MD, died Tuesday (9 May) at her home in Bedford PA. Her husband, a shoemaker, died six months ago. She was Miss Anna White before marriage. Three daughters survive. Thomas Shires of Cumberland is a grand son.

RAWLINGS 23 May 1916 Newton T Rawlings, aged 82 years, a farmer died today at his home in Pinto MD. He was a descendant of Col Moses Rawlings of Revolutionary War fame. He is survived by two brothers, A C Rawlings of Rawlings MD; and George M Rawlings of Pinto MD; and sisters, Mrs M L Sprigg of Cumberland; and Mrs Louisa R Kings of Pinto. A nephew is, Lloyd L Rawlings , a teller of the 1st National Bank. Burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery.

REYNOLDS 04 May 1916 Mrs Sallie White Reynolds, aged 60 years, wife of DeWarren H Reynolds, died today at her home, 129 Washington Street following a six month illness. Born at Wheeling WV on Sep 2, 1856, she was the daughter of the late Andrew & Virginia E White and moved to Cumberland in the 1880's, teaching school until she married. She is survived by her husband and these children; Hewitt Reynolds of Samercon NC; DeWarren H Reynolds Jr with the State highway Commission; and Emmitt Reynolds, of the ATT in New York. Also, sisters, Mrs C W Woodward of TX; Mrs Mary W Wilson of Cumberland; and Mrs Roderic Clary of Cumberland. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

ROBERTS 5 May 1916 Benjamin Franklin Roberts, aged 5 years, a son of Mrs Wilhelmina E Roberts and Charles E Roberts, died yesterday at his home, 75 Columbia Street due to diphtheria. Burial is in Greenmount Cemetery.

SHANHOLTZ 24 May 1916 Romney- Albert Shanholtz of Moorefield, a son of Mr & Mrs John Shanholtz was killed on Thursday (18 May) in an auto accident at Three Churches on a return trip from Slanesville. He is survived by his wife and four children.

SHAW 09 May 1916 Levi Shaw, aged 81 years, died today at his home 77 Bedford Street following a two week illness. Born near Grantsville, he moved to Cumberland while quite young. He was an officer in the Civil War and later engaged in the grocery business at Centre and Frederick Streets. A wife and three children survive; Mrs W W Inskeep of Greensburg PA; Mrs Ella Zimmerman of Washington DC; and Reta M Shaw at home. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

SHEEDER 19 May 1916 Henry F Sheeder, aged 80 years, a Civil War veteran, was buried in Everett Cemetery yesterday. His wife and three daughters survive.

SHORES 29 May 1916 Keyser- Capt E W Shores, aged 87 years of Piedmont died and was buried in Queens Point Cemetery.

SMITH 26 May 1916 Vale Summit- Lewis Smith, aged 61 years, died yesterday at his home of miners asthma. Surviving are his wife; and eight sons; John Smith; Joe Smith; James Smith; and William Smith of Linten IN; Frank Smith and Les Smith at home; and Lewis Smith and Edward Smith of Pittsburgh.

SNYDER 15 May 1916 Frostburg- Mrs Adam Snyder, aged 60 years, died Friday (12 May) at the family farm near Accident. Her husband and nine children survive. Services at the Lutheran Church.

SPEICHER 27 May 1916 James A Speicher, aged 45 years, died at his home in Accident, Garrett Co, MD. He is survived by his wife and nine children; and brothers, Henry M Speicher; William A Speicher; J Mahlon Speicher; and Henry J Speicher, a State Senator. Burial services at the Church of Brethern.

STOTTLEMEYER 24 May 1916 Harry W Stottlemeyer, a three months old son of Mr & Mrs Stottlemeyer of Elder Street died yesterday of infantile problems. Burial is at Cresaptown.

STRAIGHT 29 May 1916 Fairmont WV- George N Straight, aged 41 years, died in Cook Hospital of injuries he received in an auto accident. He was an agent for an auto dealership and was teaching a new owner how to drive, when the driver lost control . Four other passengers were injured but now recovering. He leaves a widow and several children.

SULLIVAN 13 May 1916 Mrs Belle Sullivan, aged 58 years, wife of John Sullivan of Akron OH, died there following a two week illness. They lived in Ohio for 25 years. She was the daughter of the late Joseph & Catherine Campbell. Her husband and six children survive. Also, a brother, James Campbell of Barton; and sisters, Mrs Harriet Cunningham of OH; Mrs John N Campbell and Mrs Charles Tonry of Westernport. Burial is in Akron OH.

THOMAS 23 May 1916 Berkeley Springs WV- Miss Dana Thomas, a daughter of Mr Henry J & Martha Thomas of Parkersburg WV, died on Saturday (20 May). She is survived by her parents; a sister, Mary Thomas; and brothers, Newton Thomas of Haliway OH; Rev John L Thomas of the ME Church, South of Cumberland; and Rev S G Thomas of the ME Church, South of Parkersburg. The funeral is at Levels WV.

THOMPSON 05 May 1916 Frostburg- William Thompson, aged 29 years, died at his home, 56 Broadway of heart disease following a three month illness. He is survived by his wife; his parents, Mrs & Mr Patrick Thompson of Frostburg; brothers, Frank of Frostburg and James of Clarysville; and sisters, Mrs James Dean; Mrs Joseph Elrich; and Mrs Charles Fram of Frostburg; Mrs Edward Flynn of Homestead PA; and Mrs Emma Thompson of Lonaconing. Burial in St Michael's Cemetery.

WEICHT 19 May 1916 Mrs Roseanna Weicht, aged 83 years, was buried at W Providence Township, Bedford Co., PA. She is survived by daughters, Mrs Marshall Boyd of Cumberland and Mrs J G Smith of Ellerslie and nine other children; 60 grand children and 47 great grand children.

WHYTOCK 27 May 1916 Mrs Virginia Taylor Whytock, aged 75 years, the widow of Judge John Whytock of Albert Lee MN, died yesterday at the home of Frank H McKay, 127 Washington Street following a brief illness. Burial is in Albert Lee MN.

WILHELM 05 May 1916 Mrs Barbara Wilhelm, aged 75 years, died today at her home 7 Sylvan Avenue after an illness of 18 months. Her husband at Pittsburgh; a son, John Trost Wilhelm; and a brother, Andrew Trost survive. Services and burial at Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery.

WILSON 02 May 1916 Frostburg- John Wilson died on Sunday (30 Apr) and was buried from the home of a sister, Mrs John Odgers of Broadway and interment was in Allegheny Cemetery.

WILSON 19 May 1916 Lonaconing- Aleda Wilson, aged 13 years, daughter of Thomas Wilson, died Saturday (13 May ) of lockjaw in Barton. She is survived by her father; a sister, Isabel Wilson and brothers; Donald Wilson; Curtis Wilson; and Floyd Wilson. Also, her grand mother, Mrs Patterson; and these uncles and aunts; Mrs Mary H Meek; Mrs Philip Lashabaugh; and Mr George Davis of Barton; Henry Wilson of Frostburg; Peter Wilson of Cumberland; and John Wilson of Lonaconing. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

WISE 29 May 1916 Marshall Wise, aged 73 years, died at Allegany Hospital today of loss of blood after slashing his throat with a razor, being despondent due to ill health. Besides his wife, these children survive; Rev Clarence Wise of Washington DC; William Wise of Petersburg WV; Mrs John Lewis of Paw Paw who is an inmate in WV Hospital at Westin. The body was sent to Paw Paw for burial.

WRIGHT 05 May 1916 Keyser- Alvin Wright, aged 24 years, a son of Mr & Mrs Luther Wright of Westernport, was struck by a B & O RR freight train as he was asleep on the tracks and died at Hoffman Hospital from his injuries. Besides his parents, he is survived by sisters; Mrs Smith Whitworth and Miss Mildred Wright and a brother, William Wright- all of Westernport.

YOUNGBLOOD 25 May 1916 Anna Youngblood, a 2 year old daughter of L V Youngblood, died yesterday at Allegany Hospital of pneumonia. The body is at the Butler Morgue to be prepared and sent to Paw Paw for burial.

ZEMBOWER 27 May 1916 Emmanuel Zembower, aged 68 years, was struck and killed by an automobile of G M Saville of Levels WV at the Harrison Street railroad crossing. He is survived by his wife and these children; Joseph Zembower and Mrs Sharon Elliott of Cumberland Valley; Mrs Albert Robinette of Cumberland; Benjamin Zembower of Pittsburgh; Charles Zembower, a barber of Frederick Street; Mrs Lawrence Meister, the wife of Patrolman Meister; Raymond Zembower and Clyde Zembower of the C & P Telephone Co; and Percy Zembower, a barber.
