ALKIRE 06 Sep 1916 Hiram Alkire, aged 88 years, died yesterday at the home of a daughter, Mrs A J Allen of 37 Goethe Street. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs John Alkire of Clarksburg; Mrs John Winters of Pittsburgh; and Mrs A J Allen. Burial is in Alaska WV in the Alkire Cemetery.

ATHEY 18 Sep 1916 Thomas Athey, aged 74 years, a native of Oldtown MD, died yesterday at Sylvan Retreat due to a large carbuncle on the head. He is survived by these children: James Athey, Taylor Athey, and Webster Athey of Frostburg; William Athey of Detroit MI; Victor Athey of Wheeling WV; Mrs Alice Young of Baltimore MD; Mrs Charles Hammon of Cresaptown MD; Mrs Albert Swahaw of Town Creek MD; and Mrs Bettie Naughton of Cumberland MD. Also, these brothers and sisters; Scott Athey and Philip Athey of Cumberland ; Mrs Lewis Boor of Keyser WV; and Mrs John Rhoads of Martinsburg WV.

BEAR 25 Sep 1916 Mrs Annie Bear, aged 83 years and 5 months, the widow of Fred Bear, died yesterday at the home of a daughter, Mrs Amelia Brant, 49 Beall Street. She had been a resident for 63 years since coming from Germany and marrying after six weeks of residency. Surviving children are; Mrs Barbara Rosenmarkle; Fred Bear; Mrs Flora H Layman; and Mrs Amelia Brant; all of Cumberland. Also, a sister, Mrs Barbara Berkner, aged 81 years of Chicago. Services are at St Luke’s Lutheran Church.

BELL 13 Sep 1916 Whitfield Bell, aged 3 years, son of Mr & Mrs John Bell of Turtle Creek PA, formerly of Lonaconing, died Monday (11 Sep) and was buried at Oak Hill cemetery.

BELL 23 Sep 1916 Mrs Frank Bell, wife of Frank Bell, died at her home in Mt Lake Park MD on Thursday (Sep 21). She was raised in Grafton by the late Lewis Beyer and Mrs Margaret Beyer now of Blueville WV. Surviving are her husband and five children; Charles Bell of Cumberland MD; Mrs J B Watkins of Johnstown PA; Helen Bell, Bertha Bell, and Howard Bell at home; her mother, Mrs Margaret Beyer; sisters, Mrs Henrietta Gigley and Mrs Emma Myers of Grafton WV; and brothers, Charles D Beyer of Pensacola FL; and William Beyer of Blueville WV. Services at the St Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton WV.

BITTNER 08 Sep 1916 Mrs Mary Jane Bittner, aged 82 years, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs Anna Shuck, 416 Arch Street of infirmities. Besides her daughter, is a surviving brother, Dr Americus Enfield of Everett PA. Burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery.

BLOSS 06 Sep 1916 Stephen A Bloss, aged 62 years, died yesterday at his home in North Branch after a stroke of paralysis on Saturday. He was a track foreman for the B&O RR and a lock tender of the C&O canal at North Branch. His wife and three children survive; Adam Bloss and Mrs Owen Zimmerly of Cumberland; and Lewis Bloss of North Branch. Also, brothers, George Bloss and Charles Bloss of North Branch and William Bloss of IL. Burial is in North Branch.

BONE 15 Sep 1916 Frostburg- Clarence Clifton Bone, aged 26 years, died yesterday at the home of his mother, Mrs Mary Bone of 6 Beall Street. His wife and these children at Carlos survive: Eleanor Bone, Pearl Bone, and Mildred Bone. Also, these brothers and sisters; Mack Bone and Osborne Bone of Cumberland; Mrs Owen Lawman of Ridgeley WV; Mrs James Stein; Mrs George Anderson; and James Bone of Carlos; and also, these uncles: Mack Bone of Midlothian and William Bone and Joseph Bone of Frostburg.

BOOR 26 Sep 1916 Mrs John W Boor, aged 63 years, died today at her home 8 S Mechanic Street after a short illness. She was the daughter of the late Amos and Emily Willison Ash. She is survived by her husband and two daughters; Mrs Gertrude McBeth and Miss Mabel Boor. Three brothers and two sisters are still living. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

BOWDEN 19 Sep 1916 Charles Bowden, aged 3 years, son of Mr & Mrs Charles Bowden of 410 Springdale Street was killed today by the ice truck of the Cumberland Brewing Co. He had passed in front of the truck when he was struck and when witnesses gave testimony to this, the driver John Betz was not held responsible. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

BRADY 19 Sep 1916 Frostburg- John Brady, aged 75 years, a Civil War veteran and resident of Eckhart until 1867, died on Sept 18 at Alexandria, LA. He is survived by two daughter and one sister. Also, nephews and a niece John Brady, Joseph Brady, James Brady, and Miss Catherine Brady, all of Maple Street.

BRADY 25 Sep 1916 Lonaconing- Joseph Brady, aged 39 years, was found dead today at his home, The Brady House. He was a son of the late James Brady. He operated the hotel with sisters; Misses Mary Brady and Ella Brady. Another sister is, Mrs William Graney of Lonaconing; and brothers, Rev. James J Brady of Meyersdale; and Edward Brady of Uniontown PA. Services and burial at St Mary’s Church and cemetery.

BREHANY 19 Sep 1916 Mrs Michael Brehany died on Sunday (17 Sep) at the home of her parents at Pekin. She is survived by her parents; her husband; and five children; and also sisters, Mrs Howard David of Pittsburgh; and Miss Ella of Pekin; and brother, John at Pekin. Burial at St Gabriel’s.

BREIGHNER 05 Sep 1916 Francis Breighner, a 17 month old son of Mr & Mrs Charles Breighner of 908 Lafayette Street died on Saturday (02 Sep) and burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery.

BROADWATER 19 Sep 1916 Lonaconing- Archibald Broadwater, aged 54 years, died at his home at Avilton on Monday (18 Sep) from liver cancer. His wife and son, Herman at home and a daughter, Mrs Chester Green survive. Burial in the Weitzel Cemetery.

BURCH 25 Sep 1916 Mrs Emily Jane Burch, aged 63 years, widow of E B Burch of Bean WV, died today at her home, 220 Humbird Street. Survived by seven sons; Elbert Burch; William F Burch; Samuel Burch; and Homer Burch of Cumberland; Thomas Burch and Charles Burch of Moorefield WV; and George T Burch of Baltimore. Services and burial at Bean WV.

CADDEN 22 Sep 1916 Midland- Mrs Ann Cadden, died of infirmities yesterday. She had lived with a daughter, Mrs E R Grant for years. She is survived by Mrs Charles Robinson of McKeesport PA; Mrs M J Loley of Grafton WV; Mrs E R Grant of Midland; John Cadden of Keyser; and Stephen P Cadden of Baltimore. Services are at St Gabriel’s Church in Barton.

CASSIDY 19 Sep 1916 Mrs Sarah Catherine Cassidy, aged 63 years, widow of James Cassidy who was killed at Altamont WV about 20 years ago, died of a heart attack while seated at in train car of the B & O RR at Queen City Station. Her daughter, Mrs L Graham was with her mother at the time. She is survived by three daughters; Mrs Harry Pirkey of 321 Laing Avenue, with whom she resided; Mrs L Graham; and Miss Maude Cassidy.

CASTEEL 21 Sep 1916 Runzy Casteel, aged 32 years, died yesterday at Western Maryland Hospital from burns following a thrashing machine boiler explosion on a farm at Centreville PA a week ago. His wife and two children survive. Funeral services are at the Centenary Church followed by interment in the IOOF cemetery.

CORBETT 09 Sep 1916 George W Corbett, aged 66 years of Hancock, died yesterday at the Washington County Hospital of cancer of the stomach. He kept a store in Hancock.

CUBBAGE 18 Sep 1916 Benjamin Cubbage, aged 66 years, died Saturday (16 Sep) at the home of a daughter, Mrs Joseph Carey of 55 Ormand Street from typhoid fever. A stone mason from Petersburg VA, he lived in Cumberland for 15 years. He is survived by his wife and these children: John Cubbage and William Cubbage of Cumberland; Mrs Joseph Carey of Frostburg; Mrs Joan Buskirk and Mrs Charles Hammond of Cumberland; Mrs Hammond Bennett of Cleveland OH; Olivia Cubbage and Mrs Albert Sowers of McKeesport PA. Also, a sister, Mrs Frank Simmons and brother, Arion Cubbage of South Cumberland. Burial in Allegany Cemetery.

DAHL 25 Sep 1916 J W Dahl Jr, a child of 7 months, son of Mr & Mrs J W Dahl died today at Allegany Hospital.

DIAMOND BOWLING LANES 18 Sep 1916 The Diamond Bowling Lanes, a completely new establishment, opened tonight by proprietor, Howard E Chaney. The Diamond team bested the Savoy team by 38 pins.

DYCHE 13 Sep 1916 George Dyche, aged 86 years, a retired B&O RR conductor, died today at Allegany Hospital after a long illness. A son, John Dyche of 218 Grand Avenue survives. Burial to be in Little Orleans.

FELTY 05 Sep 1916 Mrs Christina Felty, aged 95 years, died yesterday at the home of a son, Godfrey Felty of 27 Frederick Street. She is survived by these children: Mrs August Lockner of Wertemburg, Germany; Mrs George E Simpkins of Chicago IL; Frederick Felty of Uniontown PA; Christian Felty of Connellsville PA; Godfrey Felty of Cumberland; Robert Felty of Springfield OH; Adolphus Felty of Columbus OH; John Felty of Rowlesburg WV; and Henry Felty of Mt Lake Park. Burial is in Oakland MD.

FINN 16 Sep 1916 Frostburg- Mrs James Finn, aged 60 years, died yesterday at her home in Vale Summit of acute indigestion. Her husband and two son survive; Andrew Finn of Vale Summit and James Finn of Pitcairn PA; and these brothers and sisters, William A Hawthorn of Indianapolis IN; Steele Hawthorn of Vale Summit; Mrs Francis Pryle; and Mrs Arthur Gilmartin of Vale Summit.

FLOTO 25 Sep 1916 James Philson Floto, aged only 5 days, a son of Mr & Mrs Harry Wilson Floto of Greene Street, died today. Services and burial to be in Berlin PA.

FOREMAN 23 Sep 1916 Joseph Foreman, aged 27 years, died Thursday (21 Sep) at Tera Alta WV. His wife and two sons survive. He was a member of the ME Church.

FOREMAN 22 Sep 1916 Catherine Foreman, a 7 month daughter of Mr & Mrs Raymond Foreman of 65 Valley Street died today following a short illness. The funeral is from the grand parents home of Mr & Mrs Frank Shober, 65 Valley Street and burial services in Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church and cemetery.

FOUTZ 23 Sep 1916 Howard Foutz, aged 30 years, a farmer of Buena Vista PA, died at Western Maryland Hospital of typhoid fever after a none month illness in the hospital. His parents survive him. Burial in PA.

GURTLER 02 Sep 1916 George Gurtler, aged 79 years, died Tuesday (29 Aug) of heart trouble at the home of a daughter, Mrs Wilfred Pirkey, 224 Humbird Street. He was widowed recently and unable to attend the burial of his wife Matilda sue to his illness. He will also be buried in Magnolia WV, with his wife. Surviving children are: William Gurtler and Adam Gurtler of Great Cacapon; Charles Gurtler of Greenspring WV; Ellis Gurtler of Magnolia WV; Mrs George Flora, Mrs Edward Phillips; Mrs John Smith, and Mrs Wilfred Pirkey at Cumberland.

HARRIGAN 28 Sep 1916 Mrs Anna Emma Harrigan, aged 28 years, wife of Lawrence Harrigan, died yesterday at her home on Yale Avenue after a three week illness. Her husband and three small children survive. Burial at Greenmount Cemetery.

HAYNEN 01 Sep 1916 The infant son of 13 months of Mr & Mrs John Haynen, formerly of Allegany Mines, now of Garrett PA died.

HIGGINS 23 Sep 1916 Frostburg- William Higgins, age 2 years, son of Mr & Mrs William Higgins of Vale Summit died yesterday and services are at St Michaels Catholic Church.

HOBLITZELL 25 Sep 1916 Mrs J Russell Hoblitzell, a native of Baltimore, wife of H Russell Hoblitzell of Meyersdale PA died at her home on Friday (23 Sep) . Burial and services are at Meyersdale.

HUSBAND 13 Sep 1916 Mrs Nancy Husband, aged 66 years, widow of Bryson Husband who died two years ago, died today at her home in Narrows Park. Children surviving are: Mrs Mary Myers of Greensburg PA; Mrs Rose Smith of Cumberland; Mrs Matilda Fittro of Ellerslie; Harry F Husband off Pittsburgh; Irvin E Husband of Pittsburgh; and Ralph Husband of Cumberland. Burial at Tarr Station PA.

JUDY 15 Sep 1916 Benjamin Franklin Judy, aged 67 years, died yesterday at his home, 530 Greene Street. He is survived by his wife and one son. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

KELLY 09 Sep 1916 Harry Kelly, aged 18 of Piedmont was fatally injured yesterday by a Western Maryland RR freight which he had ridden to work at the Luke Paper Mill. His father died several years ago and his grand father, Jacob C Wilson died a few weeks ago. His mother, Mrs John Kelly of Westernport and five younger siblings survive.

KELLY SPRINGFIELD TIRE CO 10 Sep 1916 An agreement with city officials will bring a new manufacturing plant to the city that will employ up to 3,000 persons on the properties currently owned by the Bopp and Miltenberger families. Capital stock is being issued at $1000 per share in an effort to raise $750,000 to finalize the deal. KEMP 18 Sep 1916 Frostburg- Mrs Truman Kemp. Aged 75 years, a native of Mt Savage MD, died today at her home in Borden Mines following a year of illness. She is survived by these children; John Kemp, the proprietor of the Broadway Hotel; Ross Kemp; William Kemp; Fred Kemp; Charles Kemp; and George Kemp -all of Frostburg; an adopted son, Alexander Warshbig; and daughter, Mrs William Thorpe of Borden Mines. Burial is in Allegany Cemetery.

KERNS 15 Sep 1916 John Kerns, aged 66 years, died Wednesday (13 Sep) at Haystack Mountain Sanitarium. He was a resident of PA but a patient for several months. Funeral will probably at Allegany County Cemetery.

KEYSER 12 Sep 1916 Gladys Keyser, aged 3 years, daughter of Mr & Mrs Walter A Keyser of 21 Broadway street died today of diphtheria and will be buried in Sts Peter & Paul Cemetery.

LAWLESS 12 Sep 1916 George Lawless, aged 28 years, died today at his home near French’s Station after a prolonged illness. His wife and two children are in Ohio.

LEASE 12 Sep 1916 Ridgeley WV- Mrs Martha Lease, aged 76 years, died Sunday (10 Sep) at the home of a daughter, Mrs Frank Reynolds, near Alaska WV. George Lease of Cumberland is a surviving son. Burial in the family plot four miles south of Alaska on the Reese Farm.

LEHMAN 08 Sep 1916 Doyle Howard Lehman, aged 8 years, son of Mr & Mrs J H Lehman of 117 Seymour Street died of diphtheria and burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery.

LEMON 13 Sep 1916 Mrs Laura D Lemon, aged 79 years, died Tuesday (2 Aug ). She formerly lived at Laurel Dale. Surviving children are Homer Lemon of Washington DC; Mrs Mack Ebert of Laurel Dale; and Miss Leota Lemon at home. Burial to be in the family cemetery near Greenland VA.

LEWIS 15 Sep 1916 Frostburg- David Lewis, aged 51 years, died yesterday from miners asthma after an illness of 18 months. Surviving are his wife and these children: Arthur Lewis; Eva Lewis; and Elinor Lewis - at home; and Mrs Albert Spitznas of Akron Oh. Also, sisters and brothers; James W Lewis of Welsh Hill; New Lewis of Winchester Bridge; Mrs E D Jenkins of Martins Ferry OH; and Mrs David L Jones of Frostburg; and a brother-in-law, David Powell of Bowery Street. Burial is in Allegany Cemetery.

LONG 21 Sep 1916 Mrs Barbara Long, aged 55 years, wife of former policeman John Long, died yesterday at her home 302 N Center Street. No children survive and burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery.

MACHTLEY 28 Sep 1916 Mrs Mary Machtley, aged 37 years, died today at Allegany Hospital and is survived by a son at Ridgeley WV.

MARTIN 15 Sep 1916 Mary E Martin, an 18 month old daughter of Mr & Mrs J E Martin of Williams Road died yesterday following a brief illness. Burial will be in Eckhart.

MAYHEW 14 Sep 1916 Rumma Mayhew, aged 28 years, died today at Barrellville following child birth. She is survived by husband John Mayhew and six children ages 2 to 13 years. Burial is at Morrison Station MD.

McLANE 20 Sep 1916 Frostburg- Mrs Stella McLane, aged 47 years, wife of W Oliver McLane, was found dead in her home by Miss Elinore Dean, employed by the family as Mrs McLane was an invalid, but otherwise, in good health. She married Dr McLane in Baltimore in 1894, and he survives with sons; W Oliver McLane Jr at Western Maryland College at Westminster MD; and Charles McLane; and daughters, Miss Anna McLane, a teacher at Eckhart; and Elinore McLane at home. A native of Baltimore where her mother, her sisters Theresa and Grace Lee reside. Another sister in Cincinnati; one in the South; and brothers, Frank in the South; and Robert Lee of Firestone Rubber Co at Akron OH. Burial services are in St Michaels Catholic Church and burial in Allegany Cemetery.

McMILLAN 28 Sep 1916 Lonaconing- A child, nine months old, of Mr & Mrs Hugh McMillan died today at Rockville and services are Friday with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery.

MILLER 02 Sep 1916 Guy Miller, a former resident, committed suicide in Detroit and his body was shipped here for burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

MILLER 12 Sep 1916 Mrs Christina Miller, aged 60 years, died yesterday at her home 15 Hanover Street after an two year illness. Her husband, August Miller died 12 years ago. These children survive: John G Miller and Miss Rita Miller, both at home. Burial in the German Lutheran Cemetery.

MORTON 06 Sep 1916 Lonaconing- Mrs Mary Turner Morton, aged 67 years, wife of Andrew Morton, died on Monday (04 Sep) in her home on Church Hill following a long illness. She came to Lonaconing from Nova Scotia at age 5 and married in 1869. Surviving are her husband and these children: Mrs Alvin Smith of Maryanna PA; Mrs Grant McCoy and Mrs William King of Pittsburgh; Mrs David Robinson of Lonaconing; Andrew F Morton; John Morton; William Morton; Samuel Morton; and James Morton of Lonaconing; and sisters, Mrs John Kinnock and Mrs Elizabeth Stevenson, both of Lonaconing. Burial is in Oak Hill.

MOURY 27 Sep 1916 James E. Moury, aged 36 years, of Pleasant Ridge, Bedford County, died yesterday after a short illness. A son of Mr & Mrs L W Moury, who survive along with these sisters; Mrs Ada May of Mann’s Choice PA; Mrs Clyde Cook of Meyersdale PA; Mrs Hattie Miller of Camp Run PA; Mrs J C Turner of Cumberland MD; and Miss Pearl Moury, at home. These brothers: William Moury and Harry Moury of Somerset PA; Clay Moury of Camp Run PA; John Moury, Glenn Moury, and Ray Moury at home. Burial at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery..

O’CONNOR 19 Sep 1916 Mt Savage- The funeral of John O’Connor, who was accidently killed at Akron OH last Saturday (16 Sep), was held from St Patrick’s Catholic Church at Mt Savage and was attended by a brother, Thomas O’Connor of Baltimore.

OBAKER 09 Sep 1916 Mrs Barbara A Obaker, 51, wife of Henry Obaker, died today at her home in Narrows Park of dropsy following a one year illness. Surviving are her husband and these children: Christopher Obaker, Charles Obaker, William Obaker, Walter Obaker, and Mrs Edward Logsdon of Cumberland. Burial in Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery.

OGLEBAY 18 Sep 1916 Leonardes Oglesbay, aged 8 years, a son of John C Oglesbay of 275 Columbia Street, was killed on Saturday, (16 Sep) on the train trestle of the George’s Creek and Cumberland RR while playing tag. The burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery.

PARADYKE 05 Sep 1916 Frostburg- Mrs Martha Paradyke, aged 61 years, died on Monday (04 Sep) at the Allegany County Home. Her husband, Frederick Paradyke died about two months ago. Surviving family include nieces; Mrs Rev. William Sanders and Mrs Frank Mullan of Lonaconing. Burial in Eckhart Cemetery.

POLAND 08 Sep 1916 Elkins WV- Isaac N Poland, aged 72 years, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs Charles P Crawford on Sept 7 from an advanced age. Born in Barbour Co., WV on Sept 22, 1844, he is survived by two sons, Charles D Poland of Albright WV and Jonas W Poland of Elkins WV; and five daughters, Mrs E E Wolfe; Mrs P W Miller; Mrs R M Godwin; Mrs C P Crawford; and Mrs W D Weese; all of Elkins. Burial is at Maplewood Cemetery, Elkins.

PORTER 10 Sep 1916 William A Porter Jr is severely injured in Consolidation Mine #10 in a mine roof falling accident. As he was braking loaded mine cars, he became squeezed between the top of the cars and the roof of the mine shaft and eventually knocked to the ground suffering a broken shoulder bone and extensive internal injuries and lacerations.

REED 27 Sep 1916 James Wesley Reed, aged 64 years, a glass blower, died yesterday at his home on Springdale Street. He is survived by his wife Annie and four children; James H Reed; Mrs D B Vest; and Mrs J H Cordry all of Woodlawn PA; and Mrs C A Sell of Cumberland MD. Burial at the German Lutheran Cemetery.

REPHORN 06 Sep 1916 Mrs Henry Rephorn of Eckhart is enjoying a celebration of her 90th birthday. A photo and article of seven paragraphs. She was born May 30, 1827 in Preusen, Germany; came to the US at age 19; and had 15 children. They are: Mrs Samuel Wolford; Mrs H E Lancaster; Mrs M M T Porter; Mrs George Engle; Philip Rephorn; Frank Rephorn; George Rephorn; Henry Rephorn; Fred Rephorn; Justus Rephorn; Conrad Rephorn; Joseph Rephorn; John Rephorn; Henney Rephorn; and William Rephorn.

RICE 15 Sep 1916 Mrs Bridget Ann Rice of Oakland died of heart trouble on Tuesday (12 Sep). Born in County Mayo, Ireland in 1836, she came to America as a young girl and married on 18 Nov 1865 to John Rice at Sts Peter & Paul Church by Rev Fr. Joseph Wright. Survived by 5 of her 7 children: Michael Rice, William Rice, and Lawrence Rice of Oakland; Mrs Mary Cromwell and Mrs Ellen Patterson of Baltimore; and the deceased children John Rice Jr and Mrs Ann Bergner. Burial at St Peter’s in Oakland.

RICHARDSON 21 Sep 1916 Frostburg- Lancelot Richardson, aged 63 years, died of Bright’s disease at his home on Mechanic Street. He is survived by a wife and these children; George W Richardson of Cumberland; Charles O Richardson of Pittsburgh; Mrs Joseph Bone, Mrs William Warn, and Miss Eleanor B Richardson all of Frostburg; brothers; Andrew Richardson, Joseph Richardson, and John Richardson all of Frostburg; James Richardson of Pittsburgh; and a sister, Mrs Leroy Lane of Ridgeley WV. Burial in Allegany Cemetery.

RING 26 Sep 1916 Miss Elizabeth Estelle Ring, aged 26 years, daughter of Mr & Mrs Charles R Ring, died today at her home, 51 Baltimore Avenue, following a two year illness. Surviving are parents and sisters; Misses Edith Ring; Agatha M Ring; and Birdie P Ring. Burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery.

RINKER 08 Sep 1916 Mrs Eliza J Rinker, aged 80 years, widow of George Rinker died yesterday at her home, 25 Elm Street of apoplexy. Surviving children are: Mrs Elizabeth Brown; Mrs John H Orndoff; and Misses Jennie Rinker and May Rinker. Burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery.

RIZER 06 Sep 1916 Mt Savage- Randal Rizer, an 11 month old son of Mr & Mrs George Rizer, died yesterday of infantum cholera and is buried in the ME Cemetery of Mt Savage.

ROBINSON 26 Sep 1916 Mrs Susie Robinson, aged 24 years, died today at her home, 314 Offutt Street after a long illness. She was the daughter of Jerry Malone. Services and burial at Dan’s Run WV.

SCOTT 05 Sep 1916 Helen Mar Scott, aged 58 years, died of uremic poisoning at her home on W Washington Street, in Hagerstown. A child of William R Beall of Cumberland, she married De J McPherson Scott in 1879, who survives with these children: Mrs Stephen R Bradley of Nyack NY; Mrs Stuart Playfair of Toronto Can.; Norman B Scott III and W. Ryand Scott of Cumberland. Also, her mother, Mrs Rachel Beall of Hagerstown; and these brothers and sisters: William R Beall of Eureka CA; Robert A Beall of Washington DC; Lawrence L Beall of Atlanta GA; George H Beall of Durham NC; Alpheus Beall of Pittsburgh PA; Mrs J. Augustine Mason of Hagerstown MD and Mrs Grayson Burress of Toronto Can. Burial to be in Rose Hill Cemetery of Hagerstown.

SHAFFER 23 Sep 1916 Charles H Shaffer, aged 56 years, died at the home of a sister, Mrs Frank Bayer at Huntingdon PA after a three year illness. He was formerly a resident of Fairbury NE. He was a brother of Lloyd L Shaffer, clerk of the court; B Frank Shaffer; and Mrs Grace Volk of Cumberland. Burial is in Fairbury NE.

SHERTZER 13 Sep 1916 John Shertzer, aged 50 years, died today from injuries he suffered in a rock fall mine accident in the Mertens Mine at Montell yesterday. His son, Edward Shertzer was on the mine heading and escaped injury. A fellow miner, Patrick Higgins removed Mr Shertzer from under the rock and he was rushed to Miners Hospital in Frostburg. He has a wife and eight children at Vale Summit and a brother, Michael Shertzer of 249 N Center street who had been summoned. Burial is in St Michael’s Cemetery.

SLEEMAN 28 Sep 1916 Frostburg- an infant 19 months old of Mr & Mrs Joseph Sleeman of Vale Summit died Monday (25 Sep) and was buried at St Michael’s Cemetery.

SMOUSE 15 Sep 1916 Leon Smouse, a seven year old son of Mr & Mrs Albert Smouse of Oakland died while playing with a neighbor child, Willey S Friend. They made a jack-o-lantern but the candle did not shine brightly enough, so he poured kerosene upon it and the explosion enveloped him a fire which proved fatal.

SMOUSE 28 Sep 1916 Leonard Smouse, a son of the late Daniel and Elizabeth Smouse, a former resident but now of Washington IA, died there. A wife and two daughters survive there as do many relatives here.

STAGANIUS 05 Sep 1916 John Staganious of Hancock, aged 60 years died Saturday (2 Sep). A son of Frederick Staganious, he never married. He had lost one arm as a youth but remained very strong and vigorous in his lifetime. Surviving are two sisters including Mrs Durcks of Cumberland. Burial in Hancock Cemetery.

TAYLOR 06 Sep 1916 Henry Taylor, aged 64 years, committed suicide yesterday at Lonaconing with a pistol in his mouth. A native of Croyton England, he came to America in 1871 and for a number of years before retirement was an engineer at Ocean Mines #11. Survived by a sister, Miss Harriett Taylor of Midland; and brothers, George Taylor of Midland; Thomas Taylor of Midland; Frank Taylor of IL; and George Taylor in the West. Burial in Allegany Cemetery.

TROST 01 Sep 1916 Mrs A H Trost, aged 51 years, died at her home on Thursday (31 Aug) on N Mechanic Street and burial is in St Luke’s Cemetery.

TROXELL 05 Sep 1916 Mrs Catherine Troxell, aged 72 years, wife of Solomon Troxell, died yesterday at her home, 11 Independence street of infirmities. Surviving are one son, J W Troxell and one daughter, Minnie Troxell, both of Cumberland. Burial is in Rose Hill Cemetery.

TWIGG 08 Sep 1916 Reggie Twigg, aged 31 years, a farmer, died yesterday at his home in Hazen of tuberculosis. Surviving are his wife and five children. Services are at Elliott Memorial Church and interment in Lutheran Cemetery in Cumberland.

VALENTINE 11 Sep 1916 Lloyd Valentine, aged 60 years, died last night in the Bedford Road home that he was born and lived all his life. Surviving are his wife and these children: Mrs Edward Farrin of Bedford Road and Rudolph Valentine and Luther Valentine at home. Burial in Greenmount Cemetery.

WARNICK 15 Sep 1915 Verne Warnick, aged 14 years, son of Mr & Mrs Joseph Warnick of Moscow Mills died today at Western Maryland Hospital of peritonitis. The funeral will be at Barton MD.

WATKINS 01 Sep 1916 William Watkins died on Tuesday (29 Aug) at the home of a sister, Mrs Ella Reese. The funeral was from the home of Thomas W Williams of 136 Spring Street and burial in Allegany Cemetery, Frostburg.

WELLER 05 Sep 1916 A divorce Order of Publication is published for Sara Anna Weller vs. Lloyd William Weller, now of WV. The order lists the marriage occurred 2 May 1911 and he deserted on 15 Oct 1912 and there was one child- deceased as issue from the marriage. Her maiden name of Sara Anna Woods is also requested.

WHITE 19 Sep 1916 Joseph White, aged 85 years, died of infirmities at his home, 119 Maryland Avenue today. A resident of Cumberland for over 60 years, he is survived by a wife and one son, W E White, and two daughters, Mrs G W Cowherd and Mrs J H Wigley. Also, brothers, H H White of Cumberland and Isaac White of Baltimore and a nephew, Dr E H White.

WILHELM 23 Sep 1916 Grace May Wilhelm, a 6 month old daughter of Mr & Mrs William Wilhelm of Cumberland Valley, died yesterday at her home in Centreville PA. Services are at Centenary Church.

WINEBRENNER 08 Sep 1916 Frostburg- Mrs Caroline Winebrenner, aged 41 years, wife of Frank Winebrenner, died today at her home in Shaft of quinsy. Besides her husband she is survived by a sister, Miss Louise Philpot of Shaft; and brothers, John Philpot of Pittsburgh; and Edward Philpot of Shaft. Burial is in Allegany Cemetery.
