Excerpts from The Cumberland Times transcribed by Charles Often ================ 1917 ================ KREITZBURG 26 Dec 1917 Mrs Sarah Kreitzburg, 66 years, wife of George Kreitzburg, died this morning at 5 o'clock at her home on Blair St from paralysis. She was stricken Christmas afternoon following her dinner. She was a dau of Mr & Mrs John Lyons. Surviving besides her husband are 3 sons, George and John of Frostburg, and Thomas of Cumberland; two daughters, Mrs Owen McGreevy of Ocean MD and Mrs James McCue of Leetonia OH. Thomas and Michael Lyons and Edward Williams of Frostburg are brothers and Mrs George Grove and Mrs Jordan E Wilderman-Frostburg are sisters. KREITZBURG 28 Nov 1917 Personals- Mrs JS McCue, who spent 5 weeks here, the guest of her parents, Mr & Mrs George Kreitzburg, has returned to her home in Leetonia OH. KREITZBURG 29 Dec 1917 In the sudden death of Mrs George Kreitzburg, Blair St on 26 Dec, Frostburg lost a well known woman. Mr & Mrs Kreitzburg would have been married 50 years this fall and were contemplating a golden wedding anniversary party. The pall bearers were Michael McCade, John McDonald, Joseph Spiker, George Hunter, Henry Finzel, and Eli Street. Flower bearers were Frank Bates, John Manning, John Nairn, William Lemmert, John McGuire, and PT McGann. Funeral services by Rev JJ Donlon, assistant pastor of St Michaels Catholic Church. NORTHCRAFT 01 Dec 1917 Harry Porter Northcraft, 23, Weber St and Miss Olive Idella Sturtz, 23, were married Thursday (29 Nov)at the home of Mr Northcraft's mother, 9 Weber st. Rev Green of Melvin Chapel Methodist performed the marriage. The bride is a dau of Mr & Mrs Charles H Sturtz, Baltimore Ave. NORTHCRAFT 03 Dec 1917 Mrs Catherine Elizabeth (Tate) Northcraft, aged 56 years, widow of Porter Northcraft, 9 Weber St, died Saturday afternoon (1 Dec) following an operation at Western Maryland hospital. Twice married, survivors from 1 st marriage, son, James Sparks -Purcell PA; from 2nd marriage, Walter H Northcraft; Harry E Northcraft; Mrs Jessie Hendrickson; Mrs Minnie Strong -all of Cumberland; Miss Edna Northcraft, nurse at Elkins WV. Mrs Northcraft weighed 365 lbs and one of the largest people in the city Burial at Fairview PA. SMITH 28 Dec 1917 Levi Smith, florist of Bedford, died Wednesday Dec 26 at home of dau Mrs Harry Beck at age 81 years. He served in Keystone Zouaves in the Union Army of the Civil War and reached the rank of 2nd Lt. Funeral Saturday from St James Episcopal with burial and Masonic Rites. Besides 2 daus, he is survived by Mrs JT Alsip, who conducts the Arandale hotel in Bedford Springs. TWIGG 05 Nov 1917 Funeral of William K Twigg, aged 15, of Gilpintown, who died of dropsy 2 Nov, a son of JR Twigg, was held at the family plot near the Twigg home. He is survived by his parents and 2 brothers and sisters. WIGFIELD 23 Nov 1917 The will of Elijah Wigfield, of near Cresaptown. Widow Elizabeth Wigfield- the farm of over 14 acres and after her death, to sons William H Wigfield and Charles W Wigfield. The will document was dated 20 Jul 1911.
