Fifty years ago, March 18, 1869, Henry C Fletcher and Elizabeth Wilson were married at Rose Hill Farm near Flintstone MD, over one hundred guests being present. They went to housekeeping in Flintstone, living there three years and moving to Everett PA, and in the spring of 1874, they came to Furnas County, Nebraska, driving from Lexington, Nebraska. Mrs Fletcher made a stop in Lincoln for a visit on the way here while Mr Fletcher came ahead to build the house. They had the first frame house in Beaver City, the dwelling standing there where Fred Kohn now lives. They lived there one year and the house burned down with all of the household effects, the family escaping with only the clothes they were wearing. They made another start, taking a homestead south of town. They, like many of the other settlers, weathered the droughts, grasshoppers, and snakes and having their share of joy, sorrow and hardship.
