MILLER 29 Nov 1989 VALLEY ROAD WOMAN KILLED IN CRASH Springfield, W. Va.- A 25-year-old Cumberland woman was killed in a single-vehicle mishap Tuesday about two miles east of Springfield, according to West Virginia State Police at Romney. Barbara Jean Miller , of Valley Road, was pronounced dead at Cumberland Memorial Hospital following transport by state police Medevac Helicopter. Police said Miller was the driver of the compact car which was traveling eastbound on the Springfield Grade Road near the intersection with the Silas Milleson Road when the mishap occurred at about 10:10 a.m. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle in a curve causing it to leave the roadway and strike a bridge, police said. The car then came to rest on its top in about two feet of water. A passenger in the car, Cindy S. Neis, 30, also of Valley Road, was taken to Cumberland Memorial Hospital by Springfield Rescue Squad where she was listed in fair condition Tuesday evening, according to an emergency department spokeswoman. She was born in Mount Savage Dec 28, 1898, daughter of the late Levi and Fannie (Wilhelm) Blank. Mrs. Often was formerly employed in the cafeteria at the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. She was a member of the Mount Savage United Methodist Church and the Ladies Aid Society of the church. Survivors include one son Gerard Often, Barberton Ohio; one brother, Francis Blank, Mount Savage; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
