He had lived in Marshall since 1963, moving from Kansas City. He was owner and operator of Robert's Studio in Marshall. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Marshall, Marshall Optimist Club and the Professional Photographers Association of Greater Kansas City. He attended the Missouri Military Academy and was a 1946 graduate of Mexico High School. He attended the University of California Art Institute majoring in photography. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Hornbeck was born in Sikeston, May 6, 1938 to Sidney Francis and Virginia (Lynch) Hornback. He was one of 14 children. Surviving are Shirley Birk and her husband, Charles, of Tamms, Ill., Jerry Hornback and his wife, Joan, of Cobden, Ill., Joe Hornback of Jackson, Betty Edwards and her husband, Jim, of Boca Raton, Fla., Rita Wright and her husband, Wayne, of Williamsville, and Wayne Hornback and his wife, Pennie, of Centerville, Iowa. On March 19, 1966, Gary married Phyllis J. Hensley (nee Womble) in Overland. Phyllis survives at the home in Mexico. Gary served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1959 as a radar man, aboard the USS Pickaway. He worked for the Federal Government as a computer specialist for 30 years, maintaining the computer records of the U.S. Army Reserve. Gary was a Private Pilot, and his hobby and love was in flying and building aircraft. He built four experimental aircraft: a VariEze, a Glasair, a Protech 2, and a Zenith Zodiac 601. The VariEze and the Zenith Zodiac 601 are now on display at the St. Louis Aviation Museum, and the Protech 2 was donated to Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, for instructional purposes. Gary was a member of the Auxvasse City Presbyterian Church, the National Experimental Aircraft Assn., the Aircraft Owner's and Pilot's Assn. and a Charter Member of the EAA Mid-Mo Chapter 1225. Dorothy was born in Mexico, on Oct. 11, 1940, the daughter of Claude B. and Grace Lee Dowell Slonaker. She was married on July 25, 1971 to Paul Wendall Dunbar who survives at their home. She was a graduate of Paris High School. She obtained a bachelor's degree from Central Methodist College and a master's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She had resided in Wellsville since 1961, moving here to teach business education. She taught for nine years prior to her marriage. She was a devoted homemaker and mother. Dorothy was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where she taught the adult women's Sunday school class and was a member of WMU. She was also active in many community organizations including P.E.O., Chapter EC, Friends of the Library, Young Farm Wives, Harmony Club, and many others throughout the years. Survivors in addition to her husband include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. and Mrs. Chad (Beth) Wilkerson of Kansas City, and Mr. and Mrs. Lindell (Jennifer) Spiers of Wellsville. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green. Jack Spurrier Jack J. Spurrier of Mexico, age 83, passed away on Nov. 25, 2002. Mr. Spurrier was born on July 16, 1919 to Ralph E. and Minnie (Kelso) Spurrier, in Sandpoint, Idaho. He moved to Mexico in 1935 with his mother, step-father, T.H. Rickman, Sr., and family. He graduated from St. Brendan High School in 1936, attended college in Chicago and joined the A.P. Green Refractory Company in 1941 in the Plant Engineering Department as a mechanic's helper. Three years later he was named Assistant Purchasing Agent for the company. From this position, he became a Sales Correspondent and then Assistant Export Sales Manager, and was later promoted to Territorial Sales Office Manager and Sales Correspondent supervisor. In 1953, he was transferred to St. Louis as Assistant Territory Sales Manager and the following year was transferred to Toledo, Ohio as the company's first industry specialist as Manager of Sales-Glass Industry. In this position, he was responsible for sales to the Glass Industry in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. He was head of the International Division of A.P. Green and was a Vice-President of the company. On Oct. 29, 1941, he married Marilynn Mundy, who survives at Gamma Road Nursing Home in Wellsville. He is also survived by his four children, James J. Spurrier and his wife, Jean, of Vincennes, Ind.; Jane Spurrier-Brock and her husband, Glenn Brock, of Reserve, La.; Jacquelyn Hagan and her husband, Steve, of Mexico; and Thomas J. Spurrier and his wife, Amanda, of Charlotte, N.C. Seven granddaughters, Jenna Stucker of Indianapolis, Ind.; Jamie Spurrier of Vincennes, Ind.; Andrea Spurrier of Reserve, La.; Erin Hagan and Kelli Hagan of Mexico; Caroline Spurrier and Sarah Spurrier of Charlotte, N.C.; and one great-grandson, Aden Spurrier of Reserve, La., also survive him. Other survivors include his half-brothers, Howard, Harold and Robert Rickman. His parents, his step-father, two sisters, Gertrude Hulme and Lucille Shaw, and a brother, Ralph Spurrier, preceded him in death. Mr. Williams was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Hannibal, Mo. He had owned and operated Williams Antiques in Vandalia, Mo. He was also a car salesman for over 40 years. Hartung on Feb. 5, 1943 in Bowling Green; he preceded her in death on March 1, 1997. Mrs. Hartung had worked as a reporter for the Vandalia Leader for nearly 25 years. She lived all her adult life in the Vandalia area and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She was a high school graduate and attended Chillicothe College, majoring in journalism. Hogue died at 2 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Missouri Veterans' Home in Mexico. He served in the USMC from December 1942, retiring in June 1971 at the rank of master sergeant. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Vandalia. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. Mr. Hogue was born Sept. 8, 1922, in Kansas City, to Perry and Opal Edith Burkhart Hogue. He was a 1940 graduate of Farber High School. He served with the USMC during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. In 1942 he married Alta Davis; he then married Yuki Higa in December 1971, she preceded him in death in 1999. Survivors include one sister, Claudean Hearn of Vandalia; two brothers, Bob and Jack Hogue, both of Vandalia, and several nieces and nephews. Sturgeon Lucille M. Sturgeon, age 88, of Centralia, passed away at 8:45 p.m. Monday evening, March 24, 2003 at her residence in Centralia. Mrs. Sturgeon had been in ill health for sometime. She was born Feb. 8, 1915 at the family home south of Curryville, to the late Enoch and Ruby Branstetter. She was educated in the rural school. She went to high school in Curryville and Vandalia. Lucille was a rural school teacher before her marriage to Paul D. Sturgeon on Aug. 22, 1937. They were married by Rev. Lloyd Sapp at his home in Ashland. Their attendants were Emma Mundy of Moneta, Va., Alma Marksbury, Corpus Christi, Texas, William Hollander, deceased and Eileen Smith, deceased. In addition to her husband, Paul D. Sturgeon, Centralia, she is survived by a son, Jackson D. Sturgeon, Arlington Heights, Ill.; a daughter, Margot L. Baker, Dallas, Texas; and five grandchildren. In her Branstetter family, there were five sisters and one brother. The oldest sister, Esther McDowell, preceded her in death March 12, 2003. Rachel Kohl of Vandalia and Georgia Warner of St. Charles survive. Two other sisters, Julia Kohl and Eileen Smith preceded her in death. She was married to Basil D. Bell on Aug. 22, 1926 in Hannibal and he preceded her in death July 1, 1961. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Tulsa Joe Bell; two brothers, Fred Leake and Monroe Leake; three sisters, Rosie Leake, Mignon Heizer, and Delia Elliott; and one half sister, Marie Dudgeon. Mrs. Bell had lived in California for 41 years prior to returning to the Quincy area. She then moved to Perry for several years and then to Mexico for five years prior to going to Monroe Manor. She had been employed as a power stitcher in the shoe factory business for over 50 years. She was a member of the Perry Baptist Church. She was a daughter of William F. and Caroline Lena Kaiser Litzinger. She was married on October 1, 1938, to Eugene Irving Queathem. the Queathems moved from Chesterfield, to their farm near Buell. Her husband preceded her in death on July 27, 1996. Mrs. Queathem was a member of the Buell Methodist Church; the Montgomery City Order of the Eastern Star; and a charter member of the Montgomery City Lioness Club. She worked for a number of years at the Hadfield's Locker in Montgomery City, and later at Polly's Diner. Jess was born Nov. 12, 1985 in Joplin, the son of Jim and Christy Graham. He attended the Tri-County Cerebral Palsy Center for eight years. In 1994, the family moved to Mexico. He then attended the Delmar Cobble State School in Columbia. Due to health concerns, Jess began to receive his educational instructions at Harvey House Group Home in Mexico. Survivors include his parents, Jim and Christy Graham of Mexico; his younger sister, Haley; his grandparents, George and Sibyl Graham of Nevada, Mo.; aunts and uncles, Bill and Sherri Graham, Platte City, Bob and Kathi Graham, Greenwood and Jane Ann and Terry Hancock, Nevada. Winkelman, Sr., age 76 of Martinsburg, died at 1:12 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at his daughter's home in Benton City. Zimmermann on May 10, 1947 in Hermann. She preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 1995. Mr. Winkelman worked in the Loading Department at A.P. Greens for 38 years, retiring in February 1989. He was in the Army. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and in the VFW. KATHRYN KAY HARLOW Kathryn Kay Harlow, age 58 years of Centralia, died Oct. 10, 2002 at Columbia Regional Hospital, Columbia. She was born March 24, 1944 at Princeton, Kan., the daughter of John Alonzo and Clara Ellen Armstrong Hull. On Feb. 10, 1967 she was married in Centralia to James Ronald Harlow and he survives. Charles "Hookie" Rummans Charles "Hookie" Rummans, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000 at 5:15 p.m. at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. Mr. Rummans was born on May 14, 1939 to Necell Gardner and Leon Rummans. He lived most of his life in Mexico. "Zeke" McIntyre of Mexico. Mr. McIntyre, 89, died Tuesday April 17, 2001 at 10:35 p.m. at the Audrain Medical Center. Private graveside services will be held Friday at East Lawn Memorial Park. He was a lifelong resident of Mexico and had been a businessman and active civic leader in Mexico for many years. Warren Oscar McIntyre was born in Mexico on February 28, 1912 the son of Rolla M. McIntire and Nell Landon McIntire. He graduated from the Mexico High School in 1929, where he was President of his junior and senior classes. He graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 1934. On September 24, 1938, he married Mary Katharine Davenport of Mexico. While attending the University of Missouri, he was a member and President of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity which he has remained as an active alumni for over 65 years. He was also a member of Sigma Delta Chi Honorary Journalism Fraternity which he served as President. He was the Editor of the Maneater newspaper in 1933-34 and manager of the Showme humor magazine. Upon graduation, he was employed for one year at Bobbs Merrill Publishing Co. in Indianapolis and New York. A lifelong supporter of the University of Missouri athletic programs, he served on the school's Athletic Committee in the 1960's. For over 50 years, Mr. McIntyre operated the Missouri Printing Company in Mexico, a firm his father founded in 1905. In the 1940's, he published the Mexico Free Press and published historical and school texts through McIntyre Publishing Co. He was also an investment broker from 1956-1966 and was the very first Independent Representative for the Edward D. Jones & Co. firm. From 1967-1971, he was Director of Printing for the Missouri Department of Revenue in Jefferson City. Active in Mexico civic organizations, Mr. McIntyre served on the Mexico City Council, was President of the Mexico School Board, a member and former President of the Rotary Club and the Mexico Country Club,was Chairman of the local chapter of the American Field Service, and was a founding member of the Audrain County Historical Society. He was a member of the Mexico United Methodist Church. During World War II, Mr. McIntyre served on active duty in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1943- 1945 with the rank of Lieutenant. He was named an Honorary Colonel on the staffs of former Missouri Governors James T. Blair and Forrest Smith. Zeke McIntyre was a sports fan and an accomplished golfer. He won both the Mexico City Championship and the Mexico Country Club Championship. He held the distinction of being the "senior golfer" at the Mexico Country Club. When he played the course in March, he was commencing his seventy-ninth year playing those links. He was a person of great wit whose sense of humor was legendary. Mr. McIntyre was preceeded in death by his parents and three brothers, Marion W., Rolla M., Jr. and Landon R. McIntire, M.D. He was also preceeded in death by an infant son, Robert, in 1940. He is survived by his wife, Katy, two daughters, Julie (David) Shepherd of Fairfax, Virginia, and Cindy (Edward) Mayo of Niles, Michigan, and a son William Warren McIntyre of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Four grandchildren survive, Jason Shear of Chicago, Ill, Stephen Shepherd of Falls Church, Va., Katharine S. Dubansky of Oakland, Md., and Jennifer M. Fujawa of Niles, Mich.; and two step-grandchildren, Meg M. Brown and Edward Mayo III, both of Boston, Mass. Three great-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren also survive. The family has set up a scholarship fund in his memory to honor college-bound golfers graduating from the Mexico High School. ALBERT KLEINSORGE Albert Henry Edward Kleinsorge, age 86, of rural Wellsville, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at 5 a.m. at the Gamma Road Lodge Nursing Home in Wellsville. Albert was born October 14, 1914, on the family farm five miles east of Wellsville, the third of four children, to Edward Frederick "E.F." and Wilhelmina Matilda Blaue Kleinsorge. He resided on the family farm his whole life except for the past 18 months. Albert was a farmer and farmed the land his father and grandfather once tilled. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he had served as secretary and Sunday school teacher for many years. He had also served as a commissioner for the Special Road District. On May 5, 1945, Albert was married at his parents home to Annadell Margaret Mechlin of rural Laddonia. She survives at the home. He was married to the late Mrs. Cathryn (Hurd) Blaisdell for 38 years, and is survived by his wife of the past 22 years, Reubeline L. (Cope) Blaisdell and his six children, Mrs. Jean Russo, Lancaster, Mass., Joan Blaisdell, Lynn, Mass., Mrs. Maureen Duso, Webster, Mass., True Worthy James Blaisdell, Jr., Lynn, Mass., John Blaisdell, Marblehead, Mass., and Mrs. Kathleen Rodriguez, Mexico. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, including Joseph Wagner, Mexico, and Leah Wagner, Jefferson City, 4 great-grandchildren, 5 step-daughters, 15 step-grandchildren and 16 step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Lennarde Clayton Blaisdell, Yoncalla, Oregon, and Theodore Edwin Blaisdell, Pensacola, Fla. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Rolland Blaisdell. His father and grandfather owned and operated the prominent funeral business Blaisdell & Sons of Lynn, Mass. He graduated from John Muir High School of Pasadena, Calif., in 1935, and then graduated from Oregon University in Eugene, Ore., where he was a close classmate of the former Jackie Robinson and played football. He served 41/2 years with the California National Guard and also was a Drill Sergeant for a short time with the Army-Air Force in Wichita Falls, Tex. Mr. Blaisdell was a former manager with the GE Lynn River Works for many years until 1958, and was also a member of the original "Jet Pioneers." He was a former President of the North Shore Sportsmens Club and coached the Swampscott Pop Warner Football Team. Upon relocating to Mexico, Missouri in 1975, he was affiliated with the Missouri Military Academy in Mexico for 17 years. He was educated at Vandalia Elementary and High School. He served in the U.S. Army in W.W. II in Europe. He married Leola Hagar on Sept. 21, 1941. Survivors include three daughters, Connie Dowell of Hurst, Texas, Carolyn Ball of Farber, and Kathy Duhon of Hankamer, Texas; six grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on July 25, 1994, parents, and one sister. HAROLD M. BATSELL Harold M. Batsell, age 71 of Paris, died at Regional Hospital in Columbia on Sunday, May 14, 2000. Mr. Batsell was born on Oct. 13, 1928 in Monroe County, the son of Ray and Hazel McCann Batsell. He was married to Wanda Crow on April 18, 1964 in Mexico. He was a farmer and worked with his father in the Batsell Hardware store for 54 years. DISHMAN Jennie Louise Watts Dishman, age 86 of Mexico, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000 at the Audrain Medical Center at 6:20 p.m. She was born on Aug. 19, 1914, a daughter of Russell Aurbin Watts and Eva B. Wilson Watts in Audrain County. On Dec. 23, 1939 she was married in Mexico to Edward Victor Dishman who preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 1983. To this union two sons were born, Dr. James Edward Dishman of Warrenton and Kenneth Dale Dishman of Mexico. Mrs. Dishman is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Gilbert (Belle) Berry of Mexico and Mrs. Gertrude Miller of Mexico. She was preceded in death by one brother, William Watts; and two sisters, Delia Watts and Minnis Isgrig Marion. Other survivors include six grandsons, Dr. Kevin Dale Dishman of Atchinson, Kan., Edward Matthew Dishman of Osage Beach, Kristopher Dale Dishman of Carthage, Kelly Dale Dishman of Mexico, James Joseph Dishman of Jefferson City, and Kurtis Dale Dishman of Mexico, all who will serve as pallbearers; four great-grandchildren, Kyle Dean McComb of Iberia, Allison Faye Dishman and Abigail Nicole Dishman, both of Atchinson, Kan., and Payton Lewis Dishman of Carthage; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; many cousins also survive. He was a past president of the Vandalia Fair Board Association. Mr. Oliver was born on June 24, 1916 in Audrain County to Forrest Garrett and Minnie Alice Gliser Oliver. He was a 1934 Vandalia High School graduate. On Aug. 6, 1939, he was married to Elizabeth Mealy in Montgomery City. She survives in St. Louis. Other survivors include one daughter, Glenna F. Mr. McDannold was born Oct. 31, 1920 in rural Ralls County, the son of Paul and Eulah Dowell McDannold. He married Helen Michael on July 26, 1945 in Bowling Green; she survives at the home. Vivian Gladys Zuroweste Vivian Gladys Zuroweste, 97, Auxvasse, passed away Saturday, May 25, 2002 at the Presbyterian Manor Care Center in Fulton. She was born April 7, 1905 in Pulaski County, the daughter of the late John and Mollie (Scott) Knipp. On Oct. 8, 1930 in Fulton, she was united in marriage to Arthur H. Zuroweste. He preceded her in death in May of 1938. Also surviving are his parents; one brother, David Howdeshell of Vandalia; one sister, Rita Howdeshell of Houston, Texas; two nieces, Amber and Crystal Howdeshell; two grandmothers, Lucille Browning of Laddonia and Mable Eskew of Vandalia; and several aunts and uncles. Mr. Howdeshell lived in the Vandalia area most of his life before moving to Des Moines, where he was self-employed in steel construction and repair for 10 years. Mary Agnes Sell Mary Agnes Sell, 67 of Mexico, died at 11:34 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2002 at the Pin Oaks Nursing Home in Mexico, where she has been a resident since 1983. Miss Sell was born on June 9, 1934 near Fort Scott, Kan. to Willie Bradley and Opal Revilla Wilkins Sell. She is survived by five sisters, Mrs. Eunice (Bill) Trindle of Tecumseh, Okla., Esther Beecham of Kansas City, Kan., Grace Pennell of Columbia, Mrs. Jean (John) Trindle of Hazelton, Kan., and Mrs. Ruth (Fred) Davis of Paris; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. Miss Sell professed faith in Jesus Christ in her youth and this faith she kept throughout her life. Safford, 78, of Mexico, died at 8:02 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at the Missouri Veterans Home where he had resided for the last seven years. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at Pickering Funeral Home with Fr. Alan Stetz officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Mr. Safford was born on Dec. 17, 1923, in Terre Haute, Indiana, a son of Carl Anthony Sr. and Myrtle Jackson Safford. From the age of nine, he was raised by his father and stepmother, Muriel Oglesby Safford, who survives in Columbia. He was a graduate of Hannibal High School in 1941. He served in the Army Air Corps for five years during World War II, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a radio operator and navigator on a B-25. He was a member of St. Brendan Catholic Church, Mexico, and American Legion Post 1000, Jefferson City. When he returned from the service, Mr. Safford worked for Safford Shoes, a family business, from 1946 until 1954. He then graduated from St. Benedict's College in Atchison, Kansas, and taught Latin and English in Belton, Missouri for 24 years, retiring in 1984. He also worked in Security for Mobil Oil Co. As a hobby, he made violins. In addition to his mother, Mr. Safford's survivors include a brother, Carl A. Safford Jr., and his wife Mildred, Mexico; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Virginia) Strain, Laguna Woods, California; nephews Dan, Steve and Monte Safford, Mexico, and niece Cathy Safford, Kansas City, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews in both Missouri and California. Louise Smith Louise Smith, age 92 of rural Santa Fe died Tuesday, evening, May 28, 2002, at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico. She was a graduate of Perry High School and attended Kirksville Teacher's College. She taught school for three years at South Fork School. On June 7, 1931, she married Fred Smith who preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1972. She was an active member and Elder of the South Fork Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her son, Charles Donald and wife, Wanda Smith, of Mexico; and daughter, Maxine Adams of rural Santa Fe. He was born March 14, 1915 at Bellflower, the son of Thomas J. and Ida Ramsey Baugh. On Sept. 15, 1940 he was married in Hallsville, to Grace Rumbaugh and she preceded him in death March 3, 2000. Survivors include two daughters, Artie Sue Long, Moberly, and Judith A. Roberts, Hallsville; one son, Thomas C. Baugh and his wife, Cecilia, Hallsville; seven grandchildren, Kristina Sapp, Ashland, Deanna Rowland, Hallsville, Scott Baugh, Centralia, Andrew Baugh, Pristina, Kosovo, Aaron Baugh, Marc Long and Matt Long, all of Hallsville; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Irmalee Thomas, Little Rock, Ark. Beatrice Garland Beatrice Garland, 101, of Jonesburg, passed away on March 29, 2003 at the Jonesburg Nursing and Care Center. Mrs. Garland was born on Feb. 14, 1902 to August and Grace (Wright) Kaiser. She was the oldest of five children. She married Glen Garland on July 12, 1925 to which two children were born, Mary White and Glen Garland. She lived most of her life in Jonesburg. She loved her family, having lots of family gathering for which she cooked and baked. She was a sweet giving person, volunteering at the Senior Center and Nursing Home. She taught school, was a nurse and had many other jobs in her lifetime. She worked, loved and lived life to the fullest. She is so loved and will be missed by all. Mrs. Garland is survived by her daughter, Mary White; one son, Glen Garland and his wife, Dorothy, all of Jonesburg; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Garrett Leona Marie Garrett, age 74 years of Centralia, died unexpectedly March 29, 2003 at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia. She was born Aug. 18, 1928 at Green Ridge, the daughter of Robert E. and Rosa McKenzie Tilton. On Aug. 18, 1945 she was married in Columbia to Walter Garrett and he survives. Patti dedicated her energies to the development of leadership in young women. At SMSU, Patti was an active member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority holding numerous positions including chapter president. Fellow classmates, university administrators, and A·A national recognized Patti as an outstanding leader. After graduating from college, Patti worked as a National Leadership Consultant for A·A, and since 2000, Patti had served as a membership and ritual consultant for the Zeta Zeta Chapter at CMSU in Warrensburg. Patti also enjoyed participating with the Accenture Team in the KC Corporate Challenge (an annual multi-sport athletic event). Patti, 29, died at home on Saturday, March 29. Lehnen, Jr. on July 4, 1940 in St. Louis. Mrs. Lehnen grew up in Lawrence, Mass. and later moved to New York City where she completed high school and graduated from Manhattan Business College. She then moved to St. Louis where she was employed by Karshrach Realty. After marriage, Mrs. Lehnen spent the remainder of her life on the Lehnen family farm near Wellsville until October 1999 when she entered Stribling House Contin-u-care in Mexico. Mrs. Lehnen was a homemaker. She enjoyed needlework, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Resurrection Catholic Church in Wellsville. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mexico where she was honored as the oldest living member during the church's sesquicentennial celebration in 2001. Hays, 22, of Elsberry, formerly of Vandalia, died April 13 at University Hospital in Columbia as a result of an automobile accident. She was a lifelong resident of the Vandalia-Farber area. She was a Christian by faith and an avid collector of Beanie Babys, angels, and Boyds Bears. ALBERT LEE JESSE Albert Lee Jesse, 69, of Centralia, died at his home April 13, 2000. He was born Feb. 26, 1931 at Thompson, the son of Howard Clayton (Molly) and Thelma Claudine Wisdom Jesse. On Feb. 26, 1955 he was married at Sturgeon, Mo. to Janet Faye Self. Their children are two daughters, Jada Lea Jesse of Columbia, Connie Sue Jesse of Kansas City, Mo.; two sons, Joseph Clayton Jesse of Columbia, Clinton Ray Jesse of Fulton; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Frank (Dorthy Elizabeth Betty) Pool of Centralia; and one brother, Louis Ray Jesse of Pittsburg, Ks. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles William Jesse. He graduated from Sturgeon High School in 1949. A United States Navy veteran, he served four years during the Korean War. He was an employee of National Refractories of Mexico for approximately 40 years. On Oct. 22, 1932, he was married to Grace Toalson and she preceded him in death Sept. 17, 2000. They had been married sixty-five years. She was married to John Lewis Maxwell on Oct. 7, 1962 in Rush Hill and he preceded her in death May 23, 1982. Survivors include her mother of Rush Hill; one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Tim Gieseker of Martinsburg; two brothers, Donald Eastwood of St. Louis and Jerry Eastwood of Laddonia; one sister, Glenda Eastwood of Kirksville; and two grandchildren, Kaylee and Kimberlee Gieseker of Martinsburg. She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Robert Eastwood. Mrs. Maxwell was a lifetime area resident and member of the Rush Hill Community Church. She had worked as the Mexico ASCS office secretary for six years and then as the office manager for Lane Agri-Supply, Mexico for several years. She was a member of the Missouri Fiddlers, the McClintic Rustlers Extension Club and had served as a board member for several years for the Rush Hill Community Center. ANNA BELLE ROBINSON Anna Belle "Annie" Robinson, 66, of 512 S. Western St., Mexico, died at 11:51 a.m., Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the Audrain Medical Center as a result of a heart attack. She had been in failing health for the past few years. Mrs. Robinson was born May 29, 1934, in Audrain County, Missouri as one of 10 children of Francis Lee "Frank" and Elsie Irene (Norman) Dollens. She grew up in the "Possum Walk" community southwest of Thompson where she attended Payne School until the eighth grade. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, rural Centralia, where she accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. For several years she babysat in her home. On April 12, 1952 at Salem, Arkansas, she was married to George Wesley "Shorty" Robinson, who survives. They made their home west of Mexico, and in 1974 they moved to their current residence on Western Street. They were the parents of four children, all of whom survive. They are: Linda Jeffords, Mexico; Naomi Ruth "Noni" Vore (and husband Dan) of Auxvasse; John Wesley Robinson (and wife Celeste) of Wellsville; and George Edward Robinson (and wife Penny) of Mexico. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two on the way; one brother, Arthur Edward Dollens of Mexico, and three sisters: Velma Ruth Gates of Mexico, Bettie Lou Rivers and Elsie Lorraine Gifford of Thompson. Preceding her in death were her parents, a granddaughter Savannah Faith Robinson; three brothers, Raymond Lee Dollens, Donald Francis Dollens and John Franklin Dollens, and two sisters, Retta Mae Jones and Mary Frances Pinkerton. She was born October 23, 1910, near Williamsburg to the late John and Allie Love Hunt. She married Sam Payne on May 19, 1959, in Fulton. He preceded her in death September 4, 1982. He had been a Vandalia area resident for all of his adult life and was a member of the Spencer Creek Baptist Church, and a life member of Vandalia VFW Post 2173. Mr. Carver was born on July 10, 1914 in Wellsville to Wm. Cecil and Bertie Cossey Carver. He was a 1933 Vandalia High School graduate and served as staff sergeant in the United States Army Air Force in World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre from 1942 to 1946. On March 29, 1942, he married Geneva Clark in St. Louis. She survives at the home. Stille, age 77, of Rocky Mount, formerly of Mexico, died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at his home. Mr. Stille was born Oct. 5, 1924 in Kirksville to Joseph Emery and Lola Anna Harrison Stille. He married Beverly Jean Bass on Oct. 7, 1966 in Holts Summit. He owned and operated Mexico Monument Company until he retired in 1975. He lived in Mexico until moving to Rocky Mount after retirement. Mr. Stille was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II. In addition, he was a member of the Lake Ozark Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, of the home; one stepson, Van Kessler of Columbia; one stepdaughter, Pam Lee also of Columbia; two grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; one sister, Jo Ann Boyd of Red Bank, N.J. and a number of nieces and nephews. Rhonda Jeffries Rhonda Jeffries, 44 of Frankford, formerly of Vandalia, died April 6, 2003 at her residence in Frankford. She is preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Virginia Orion. Mrs. Jeffries had lived in the Vandalia area most of her life. She was Baptist by faith and a member of First Baptist Church in Center. KENNETH DALE DISHMAN Kenneth Dale Dishman, 54 of Mexico, died on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000 at the University of Missouri Medical Center after a seven year battle with diabetes and a heart condition. He was born in Mexico on July 10, 1946 to Edward and Jennie Dishman of Mexico who preceded him in death. He married Judith Bailey on Aug. 14, 1966. He attended Mexico Public Schools, Southwest Missouri State University and University of Missouri where he graduated with a masters in agricultural education. At Southwest Missouri State, he participated in Advanced ROTC earning the distinctive gold bars. Mr. Dishman started his 20 year teaching career at Elsberry, Mo. in 1969. He taught Vocational Agriculture and Animal Science at Graham, Mo., Ottumwa, Iowa and 15 years at the Davis Hart Vocational School in Mexico. Mr. Dishman found his work with the Future Farmers of America to be extremely rewarding. The challenge of developing leadership for the future of agriculture was the center of his life's work. Yearly trips to Washington, D.C., Area IV conferences, State FFA Camp at the Lake of the Ozarks and various judging competitions in various states highlighted this commitment. In 1978 the Mexico FFA Chapter was honored as the best in the state in activities under his leadership as an advisor. In addition to teaching, the Dishman family was kept busy managing a farrow to finish swine operations along with the family farm. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, MSTA, NEA, Kiwanis, Jaycees and Lions at various towns where he taught. He is survived by his wife of 34 years; four sons, Dr. Kevin D. Dishman (Julie) of Atchinson, Kan., Kristopher D. Dishman (Kendra) of Carthage, Kelly D. Dishman and Kurtis D. Dishman (Angela) of Mexico; three grandchildren, Allison Faye Dishman, Abigail Nichole Dishman of Atchinson and Payton Lewis Dishman of Carthage; and one brother, Dr. James Dishman (Ann) of Warrenton. She was a graduate of Paris High School. She obtained a bachelor's degree from Central Methodist College and a master's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She had resided in Wellsville since 1961, moving here to teach business education. She taught for nine years prior to her marriage. She was a devoted homemaker and mother. Dorothy was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where she taught the adult women's Sunday school class and was a member of WMU. She was also active in many community organizations including P.E.O., Chapter EC, Friends of the Library, Young Farm Wives, Harmony Club, and many others throughout the years. On Aug. 15, 1949, he was married in Arkansas to Maudie Mae Kennon. She survives. Crawford, age 77 of Mexico, died at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002 at her residence. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Arnold Funeral Home with the Rev. Al Moreau officiating. Mrs. Crawford was born April 10, 1925, in Audrain County, the daughter of Ike and Sarah Wilson. She married Robert W. Crawford on Dec. 11, 1971. Mrs. Crawford had worked for the Shoe Factory and Standard Oil. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her husband, Robert W. Crawford of the home; one son, Dwight Rahmeyer, Springfield; one daughter, Marlene Ochse, Easton, Pa.; two step-daughters, Kathleen Crawford, Princeton, N.J. and Liane Smith, Fort Myers, Fla.; one brother, Carl Wilson, Owasso, Okla.; four grandchildren; and one step-grandchild. Mr. Davis died at 5:39 a.m. June 1, at Audrain Medical Center, Mexico. He had worked as a lift truck operator at Harbison Walker Refractories for over 43 years, retiring in 1994. He was a lifelong Vandalia resident and a trustee and member of the Second Baptist Church, Vandalia. Mr. Davis was born Feb. 26, 1931 in Vandalia, the son of John R. and Byona M. Salmon Davis. He married Fannie L. Davis on June 26, 1950 in Vandalia; she preceded him in death on June 24, 1998. Survivors include four sons, Michael, Marlin, Myron and Mark Davis, all of Vandalia; three daughters, Marsha, Marian and Myra Jean Davis, all of Vandalia; one brother, Albert Davis of Kansas City; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mitchell; and six brothers. Memorials are suggested to the Second Baptist Church Building Fund. Rosetta (Sarah Verdi) Boyer Rosetta (Sarah Verdi) Boyer, 76, of Montgomery City, died on Sunday Feb. 2, 2003 at New Florence Nursing Center, New Florence. Rosetta Boyer was born April 23, 1926, in New Orleans, La., to Sebastino and Josephine LaMonica Verdi. Rosetta married Keith L. Boyer in St. Louis on March 10, 1944. She was very active in church and served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. Rosetta enjoyed taking care of her husband and children. She will be missed by her family and many, many friends. Mrs. Boyer is survived by her husband, Keith L. Boyer of Montgomery City; three children, Paulette Eaves of Montgomery City, Rodney Boyer and wife, Shiela, of St. Louis, and Tammy Van Meter of Belleville, Ill.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Anntonnette Giamalva of St. Louis; and one brother, Anthony Verde of St. Louis. Mrs. Boyer is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Bradley Boyer; and one brother, Marion Verdi. Ehrlich Hazel Dean Ehrlich, 90, of Mexico, died at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Walker officiating. Mrs. Ehrlich had been employed by the International Shoe Company until she retired on Oct. 9, 1946. On Oct. 9, 1946, in Pittsfield, Ill., she married Lee Taft Ehrlich, who died on April 3, 1996. Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including one great niece, Mrs. Rayola Miller, Fowler, Ill. Donna Jean Dixon Donna Jean Dixon, 65, Fulton, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 at the Belleville Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill. She was born on Aug. 23, 1937 in Buell, the daughter of Wilbur and Abbie (Moore) Cluster. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remember by her mother, Abbie Cluster of Shelbina; two sons, Gary Dixon of Nashville, Tenn. and Robert Dixon of Eunice, La.; three daughters, Patricia Ruby of Vandalia, Regina Arnaud of Eunice, La. and Sheryl Statham of Collinsville, Ill.; one brother, John Cluster of Fulton; and one sister, Carol Schofield of Shelbina; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dixon worked as a cook in the bakery at the Fulton State Hospital in Fulton. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, collecting dolls, and reading. Green Refractories for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967. He was baptized at New Harmony Christian Church in Curryville.
