Inez Marie Spurgeon Inez Marie Spurgeon, 73, Stover, died early Sunday morning, Jan. 10, 1999, at the Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. She was born Nov. 24, 1925, in Mankato, Kan., the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Jane Ziegler Walker. She was united in marriage to Harold Spurgeon, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Spurgeon was a homemaker and had resided in Stover for several years. She is survived by a son, Orville Miller, Kansas City; a daughter, Charlene Lovejoy, Stover; a sister, Lulla Gray, Independence; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. Elna Lela Bear Newkirk Elna Lela Bear Newkirk, 85, Marilyn Heights, died Jan. 14, 1999, at her home in Marilyn Heights. She was born Nov. 22, 1913 at Okeene, Okla., the daughter of Hugh Morris and Dessie Agness Powell Bear. On Aug. 9, 1938 in Camdenton, she married Norman T. Newkirk who preceded her in death in 1978. Mrs. Newkirk lived most of her life in Moniteau County, In 1932 she graduated from Tipton High School. She earned her bachelorÕs degree in education from Central Missouri State University in 1957. She taught elementary school for thirty years at various schools in the Moniteau County area. Mrs. Newkirk was a member of the First Baptist Church, Tipton. She is survived by two sons, N. Thomas Newkirk, Fresno, Calif., and Monte Newkirk, Cleveland, Ohio; one daughter, Janis Wolf, Defiance; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Larry Lawrence Payne Larry Lawrence Payne, 61, Tipton, died Jan. 15, 1999 at his home. He was born Aug. 28, 1937 in Hanna, the son of Chester and Alma Woody Payne. On May 26, 1973 in Syracuse, he married Sharon Sousley, who survives the home. Mr. Payne lived in Versailles, prior to moving to the Tipton area. He worked for Wal-Mart since 1981. Prior to that he was self-employed and worked with heating and air conditioning. He was a member of West Union Baptist Church, Versailles. He loved woodworking and he also was a avid fisherman and hunter. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Renee Skipper, Ocoee, Fla.; two brothers, Gene Payne, Tipton and Robert Payne, Wentzville; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Virginia 'Ginger' Hibdon Virginia "Ginger" Hibdon, 48, Florence, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 12, 1999, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. She was born Sept. 11, 1950, in Independence, the daughter of Virgil J. and Glenna Ledgerwood Conner. On Aug. 23, 1977, she married Clint Hibdon, who survives of the home. Mrs. Hibdon was employed at Interstate Studios in Sedalia and was supervisor with Interstate Image Service. She served on the Publication and First Aid Committees, and received her 10-year pin at Christmas. She enjoyed hunting and fishing, and won first place in the McDonnell Douglas State Archery Competition. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Gary Fahrni, Salina, Kan.; one daughter, Cynthia Sullivan, Independence; her mother, Glenna Conner, Gravois Mills; one sister, Linda Hollaway, Gravois Mills; and one granddaughter. She was united in marriage to Douglas E. Weaver on Sept. 23, 1970, and he also preceded her in death. Mrs. Weaver was a homemaker. She was a member of the Mt. Nebo Gospel Church near Versailles and also attended the Walk of the Water Faith Chapel in Osage Beach. Williams, 69, Eldon, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999 at Capital Region Medical Center, Jefferson City. He was born Aug 18, 1929, at High Point, the son of the Rev. N.E. Williams and Ruth Medlen. Mr. Williams was a 1947 graduate of Eldon High School. He served four years in U.S. Army. After military service, he enrolled in the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1951. He earned a bachelorÕs degree in 1956 and a law degree in 1958 at UMC. After graduating, he became a member of the law firm of Webster and Dunn in Carthage. In December of 1959, he returned to Eldon and established his own law practice. He closed the practice after he was first elected Judge in 1978. During his years of public service, Williams served as Miller CountyÕs associate circuit judge for 12 years. He also served seven terms, 14 years, as Miller County prosecutor. He served as the appointed city attorney at Eldon for 18 years. He served on assignment as a circuit judge in the counties of the 26th Judicial Circuit, Miller, Morgan, Moniteau, Camden and Laclede, and in other areas of the state on assignment by the Missouri Supreme Court. He was a member of the Miller County Republican Central Committee for 10 years and was its chairman for several of those years. He was a member of the Eldon First Baptist Church, Eldon Lions Club, the Masonic Order, the American Legion and the Missouri Bar Association. He was past president of the Miller County Bar Association and operated his private practice from April 1991 until his retirement in October of 1996. He is survived by a daughter, Jeanette Kay Baquet, California; two sisters, Marie Peich, Versailles, and Ruby Morrow, Eldon; two brothers, Earl Dean Williams, Las Vegas, Nev. and Cecil Paul Williams, Parma, Ohio; and three grandchildren. She was born March 31, 1914, near Stover, the daughter of the late Gerd and Mary Weinberg Tietjen. She was united in marriage to C. Wraymond Geary on Nov. 11, 1934, in Clinton, and he preceded her in death on May 7, 1980. Mrs. Geary was a graduate of Stover High School. She was a homemaker and also assisted her husband in operating the Geary Oil Company in Stover for 43 years. She was a member of the Stover United Methodist Church, were she taught Sunday school for many years, served as church co-treasurer and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She moved to Savannah in 1980 from Stover. She is survived by one son, Dr. Lanny Geary, Kennett; one daughter, Myrna Schroder, Savannah; one brother, Herbert Tietjen, Columbus, Ind.; one sister, Lorraine DeLong, Sacramento, Calif.; and four grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and Norman Tietjen; and two sisters, Elinor Luedeman and Mabel Harrell. She was united in marriage to Donald Garber on Feb. 23, 1951, in Kansas City, and he survives at their home. Mrs. Garber was a homemaker. She had been an active member of the Parent, Teacher Association, serving on the local and state levels. She was a member of the Christian Church of the Ozarks near Ivy Bend, where she was involved in various functions within the church. She had resided in the Ivy Bend/Stover area for several years after moving from the Kansas City area. Mrs. Allen was a retired accountant and bookkeeper, She was a member of the First Baptist Church Sunrise Beach, and former member of the Whitechurch Baptist and the Welborn Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan. For 40 years, she was involved teaching Sunday school to young children. On Oct. 3, 1931, in Iberia, she married Paul S. Yarger, who preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1984. Mrs. Yarger graduated from Eldon High School in 1927 and continued onto Central Missouri Teachers College. She taught in rural schools. Along with her husband, she owned and operated the MFA Insurance Agency in Eldon for approximately 30 years. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge. She was a Republican Committee Woman in Miller County, member of Eldon First Christian Church, lifetime resident of Miller County. She is survived by a son, David A. Yarger, Versailles; two brothers, Glenn Atwell, Flint, Texas, and Charles Atwell, Hannibal; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandsons. She was born Nov. 9, 1933, the daughter of the late Earl and Veronica (Heck) Perry. She married Ronald Williams in 1954. He preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1990. She is survived by two children, Pam Wolfe and Billy Williams, both of Gravois Mills; three sisters, Margaret White, New Bloomfield, Vicki Wood and Alice Gibbs, both of Fulton; and several nieces and nephews. Reusser, 89, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at the Forum at Overland Park. He was born in Jamestown. Mr. Reusser graduated from Californria High School and attended Westminster College in Fulton. He was a registered civil engineer. His career included the Missouri Highway Department, The Domestic War Effort during World War II. And for 27 years he was with the Kansas City Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, were he was chief of the supply division. He had been a volunteer at the church, Ghost Ranch in Abiguiu, N.M., and the Nelson Gallery. He was a member of the Village Church since 1950, Friends of Art and was a 70-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Jamestown. (Bill) Robinson, 72, Camdenton, a former Morgan County resident, died Saturday evening, Sept. 25, 1999, at the Lake of the Ozarks General Hospital in Osage Beach, Mo. He was born March 8, 1927, in Hindsboro, Ill. the son of the late Edward Robinson and Margaret Boland Robinson. On Aug. 13, 1950, in Tuscola, Ill., he married Mary Lou Houser. Mr. Robinson was a Navy veteran of both World War II and Korea, serving from 1944 until 1952. He was a member of the Arcola Catholic Church in Arcola, Ill. and had been a lake area resident for the past 34 years. Ilene Anderson Ilene Anderson, 71, Sunrise Beach, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 2, 1999, at Lake Ozark General Hospital in Osage Beach. She was born March 1, 1928, in Morgan County, the daughter of Thomas W. and Thelma June Avery Hill. On May 8, 1948, she married Roy P. Anderson, who preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1997. She is survived by two sons, Jim Anderson and family, Versailles, and Stephen Anderson and family, Sunrise Beach; three sisters, Della Anderson and Joann Collins, both of Laurie, and Barbara Wilken, Sedalia; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Earl James Whittle Earl James Whittle, 93, Versailles, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 2, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. He was born Sept. 13, 1906, in Morgan County, the son of John L. and Mollie Aust Whittle. On Dec. 12, 1931, in Morgan County, he married Crace O. Caviness, who preceded him in death on July 17, 1989. Mr. Whittle was retired from Primo Pants Factory in Versailles. He is survived by two sons, Johnny Whittle, Greenville, Miss., and Earl Whittle Jr., Clearwater, Fla; three daughters, Velma Wolf, Independence, and Shirley Marriott and Carol Helton, both of Versailles; three sisters, Marie Cornett and Myrtle Garrison, both of Versailles, and Minnie Limke, Kansas City; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, three sisters and one grandson. Robert Wesley Edwards Robert Wesley Edwards, former resident of Morgan County, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at the home of his son in Shawnee, Kan. He was born June 30, 1925, in Nelson, the son of the late Robert Solon (Pud) Edwards and Virginia Jane (Horner) Edwards. Mr. Edwards attended school in Nelson through the fifth grade. He completed his public school education in Marshall, graduating in May 1943. He entered the Navy on Aug. 13, 1943, where he served in the Navy Air Corps until his discharge April 2, 1946. On June 1, 1946, he married Wanda Marie Welch of Marshall, and she survives of the home. On Sept. 1, 1946, he entered Missouri Valley College, where he remained until May of 1948, when he transferred to Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy at Rolla to receive a bachelor's degree in civil engineering on July 20, 1950. While in college at Rolla, he joined the Army Reserve. After graduation, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers. At retirement, he was a lieutenant colonel and had served a grand total of 41 years, 10 months and 17 days. After graduation from college, he worked four years for the Missouri State Highway Department in the construction division before moving to the Corps of Engineers office in Kansas City. He was with the Corp for 27 years prior to retirement. His last position was at Truman Dam during the construction completion phase. He retire Dec. 28, 1981, from engineering practice. He was a Methodist, a Boy Scout leader for many years and a warrior in the tribe of Mic-O-Say. He also was a member in the Retired Officers Association and the National Civil Engineering Society. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert Terry Edwards, and his wife, Linda, Shawnee, Kan.; a daughter, Pamela Jane Ward, and her husband, Allan, rural Winston; four grandchildren, Allison Ward, Erin Ward, Marcy Stuhlsat and Matt Edwards; his stepmother, Catherine Edwards, Marshall; and a great-granddaughter, Cassidy Stuhlsat. Wayne Foster Wayne Foster, 94, Versailles died Saturday evening, Feb. 26, 2000, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. He was born Oct. 17, 1905, in West Mineral, Kan., a son of the late Homer M. and Della Bryner Foster. He was married to Hazel Williams in 1942, and she preceded him in death. Mr. Foster had a distinguished career as an aviation pioneer and teaching pilots to fly in the Army Air Corp during World War II. In 1942, Mr. Foster enlisted in the Army. However, when it was discovered he could fly, he was transferred to the Air Force at Cape Girardeau. While there, he taught young cadets how to fly. By the time Mr. Foster quit flying at the end of World War II, he had logged more than 3,500 miles in the air. After graduating from high school in Labette County, Kan., Mr. Foster went to work for the county road division. In 1938, he moved to the Lake of the Ozarks area near Purvis to work at a job making Chris Craft boats. Three years later, he and Herb Bellamy bought a plumbing shop in Versailles. He later owned and operated Versailles Metal Supply and with the assistance of George Edgar was able to continue working until semi-retiring in 1998. When land was acquired in Versailles to build an airport Mr. Foster's interest in aviation led him to volunteer to design, build and maintain a navigational wind directional pilot aid at the airport, which assists pilots in landing at the Versailles airport and enhances safety and professionalism. He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Homer and Lillian Foster, Sedalia; and other relatives and many friends. In addition to his wife, he also was preceded in death by his sister, Jocelyn Earnest, who died on Feb. 21, 2000, in Hutchison, Kans. Jackson, 76, Versailles, died early Sunday morning, April 30, 2000, at the Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born Jan. 14, 1924, in Groveland, Mass., the daughter of the late Henry and Caroline C. Hall Stephenson. She was united in marriage to Walter W. Jackson on July 16, 1949, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1983. Mrs. Jackson was a Navy veteran, serving her country during World War II as a Seaman 1st Class. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Jackson moved to Versailles from Nobleboro, Maine, in 1996 to be near her daughter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stover and was active in the senior citizen clubs in Versailles and Stover. She is survived by four sons, David E. She was born Aug. 13, 1916, in Philadelphia, Penn., the daughter of Ferdnand George and Bertha Violet Wenzell Lentz. On Oct. 5, 1940, in Reno, Nev., she married Sam R. Hagewood, who preceded her in death on May 3, 1997. Mrs. Hagewood was a telephone switchboard operator for several years, a member of the Trinity Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #410 both in Versailles. He was born March 13, 1907 at Proctor, a son of Edd and Sadie Raines Franklin. He was married to Hazel Spencer on March 28, 1928 at Versailles. She preceded him in death July 19, 1983. On Jan. 21, 1987, he married Pauline Marriott at Miami, Okla. She preceded him in death in 1995. Mr. Franklin owned and operated several saw mills in the lake area before retiring. He attended the Pentecostal Church. He is survived by two daughters, Katherine Allen, Gravois Mills and Lynn E. DeCoite, Kansas City; three stepsons, Sylvester Lee Marriott and Donald Ray Marriott, both of Stover, and Rex Dale Marriott, Versailles; one sister, Opal Flippin, Sedalia; one brother, Guy Franklin, Sacramento, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
