Born in Cianciana, Sicily, Italy, Mrs. Piazza lived in Cherry Valley 51 years. She was active in family businesses in Cherry Valley for many years, including a hardware and lumber store and Mimi's Cherry Valley Inn restaurant. When she and her husband, Domenico, moved from Yorkville, Ohio, to Cherry Valley, they opened the hardware store on Beaumont Avenue. In the 1970s, her daughter and son-in-law, Giovanna and Bernie De La Paz, took it over. Her son, Domenick Jr. of Cherry Valley, opened the restaurant in 1976 and sold it 13 years later. Mrs. Piazza provided most of the recipes, made the cannelloni and baked the desserts, according to her family. In her youth in Ohio, she had a knack for learning foreign languages and helped interpret for other coal mining families in business, government and court matters, said her sister, Frances Roshak of Cherry Valley. Mrs. Piazza belonged to the Cherry Valley Grange, Royal Neighbors of America and the Italian Catholic Federation Branch 21 in Redlands. She was a Pink Lady at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital. He was taken ill suddenly and died before a physician could be summoned. A 63 year-old Glen Avon woman died yesterday afternoon at Riverside Community Hospital from injuries received in a morning two automobile accident at 12th and Pine, said Riverside police. Police said that Lillian Hoesman, 10041 Mission, Glen Avon, had suffered head injuries in the crash. She died at 1:40 p.m., according to the coroner's office. She died Saturday of cancer at her home in Riverside. Burial will be in Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Memorial Park in Riverside. Mrs. Hoesman, who was born in Vinita, Okla., lived in Riverside 33 years. She was a homemaker. She also co-owner Hoesman Roof coating, Hoesman Fiberglass and Hoesman California Properties, all in Riverside. Mrs. Hoesman previously worked on her family's ranch in Oklahoma, where she raised cattle. She was a member of the Arlington Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She enjoyed ballroom, dancing, fresh water fishing and hunting. Mrs. Hoesman is survived by her husband, Dorsey, three daughters, Gayla Moore of Santa Barbara, Linda Hammil of Vinita, and Eulajean Schiffner of Loma Linda; a son, Tracy of Riverside; four grandchildren; three sisters, Arlene Hendricks and Thelma Mayes, both of Vinita and Marie Myerhoff of Mountain View, Ark.; and a brother, Carroll Caldwell of Tulsa, Okla. She married George W. Whitley in Charlevoix, Michigan, in 1923. She later married Jack F. Arnold in Santa Rosa in 1970. She was a nurse's Aide at Charlevoix Area Hospital, a cook at Loeb Farms, Manager at Fay's Dress Shop and a Clerk at Rexell Drug in Charlevoix. She belonged to Rebekah's Lodge, Mary Brewster Circle and the First congregational Church, all in Charlevoix. Survivors include a son, Roy Whitley of Petoskey, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband George in 1968, husband Jack in 1979 and one son, George W. Whitley in 1945. Singer passed away suddenly, March 14, 1980, at the age of ? years, after being rushed to San Gorgonio Pass Hospital. A native of Petoskey, Michigan and a resident of the Banning- Palm springs area, since 1948. He retired from the Detroit, Michigan Fire Dept. with the rank of Captain. During his early days with that department, he was assigned as driver to the horse drawn fire engines. He was a charter member of the Detroit, Michigan Firemans Fund Association. Having served in the U.S. Army during W.W. I, he was a member and past commander of the Beaumont Post No. 1108 Veterans of W.W. I. During the construction of the Palm Springs Tram, he was Inspection Engineer for 3 - 1/2 years and was the first person to ride the Tram upon completion. Mr. Singer was very fond of children and for several years was very active in Scouting. Survivors include; his wife, Gladys M.
