From the Lodi Sentinel, 19 Jan 1918:

Mrs. Housken, Pioneer Woman, Crosses Divide

Remains Will Be Interred In Woodbridge Cemetery This Afternoon

The death of Mrs. Catherine Housken, wife of George Housken and mother of George E. Housken of the Wagner Leather company, Stockton, occurred Thursday morning as a result of heart trouble.

She had been quite well the previous evening, despite her 75 years, and had her son and his wife as guests at the family home. It was not until 4 o'clock in the morning that she was seized by the trouble that three hours later ended in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Housken were among the early settlers of Woodbridge district, and resided on the home place until about five years ago, when they moved to Stockton. She was a woman of great industry, wide information and kindness of heart. She was for years an active worker in the Methodist church and at one time was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, being a charter member of Woodbridge chapter.

Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Housken, seven of whom are living. Three years ago Mr. and Mrs. Housken celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and all their children were present with the exception of Mrs. Gussie Van Embden, who resides in Holland.

Mrs. Housken was a native of Germany, aged 75 years. Left to mourn her death are her husband, George Housken, four daughters and three sons -- Mrs. William Fountain of San Francisco, Mrs. Gussie Van Embden of Holland, Mrs. R. J. Coggeshall of Santa Cruz and Josie L. Housken of San Francisco; George E. Housken of Stockton, Frank O. Housken of Tracy and W. O. Housken of Thornton.

The funeral will take place this morning in Stockton. Interment in Woodbridge cemetery at 1 p.m.
