Pioneer Woman Called By Death

Mrs. Agnes Mattice passed away yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe McKindley, near Acampo. Deceased was a native of England and was 81 years, 8 months and 13 days of age. When she was but six years old she moved to Illinois, and was married when she was 18 to Simon Mattice. They were blessed with nine children -- seven boys and two girls, six of whom are now living. They are Mrs. Emma McKindley of Acampo, Mrs. Leona Wilson of Lodi, Arthur Mattice of Lodi, Freeman and Chester of Clements, Edward of Woodbridge.

Mrs. Mattice came to California with her husband and Mrs. McKindley via the Isthmus of Panama in 1856. They located at Volcano, a mining town in Amador county, where all of the children, with the exception of Mrs. McKindley, were born. Besides her sons and daughters there are 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren to mourn her demise.

The funeral will be held at 2:30 this afternoon from the McKindley residence under the direction of Hale & Hawden. Rev. Nesbit of Acampo will officiate at the house and the Women's Relief Corps will take charge of the services at the grave.
