From the Lodi Sentinel, 7 Dec 1918:
Mrs. Magdelina Mauch of Maple street received a telegram, stating her son, George, who was in the U.S. navy, was accidentally drowned November 18th in the Panama canal zone. The particulars have not yet been received. The body, under military escort, is being shipped here to O. H. Wells, and the funeral announcement will be made later.
The Lodi sailor enlisted in the navy some time ago, and has been cruising all over the world. He was 23 years of age and had many friends here. He was a brother of John Mauch, who is in the aviation corps at Queenstown, England, and Mrs. M. J. Froshour and Miss Johanna Mauch of Lodi.
