Mrs. Bertha Nies, 71, 17290 N. Sunrise St. in Victor, died Wednesday morning in a Stockton hospital after a short illness.
Born in Butte, N.D., she attended school there and came to Victor in 1920 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Hensel. Mrs. Nies attended Lodi Union High School and in 1924 married Albert Nies in Victor, where the couple made their home during their entire marriage. Mr. Nies died in 1970.
Mrs. Nies was a member of the Fairmont Seventh-day Adventist Church in Lodi.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Irene L. Wasik of Victor and Mrs. Ethel Nietschke of Lodi; three brothers, William Hensel of Lodi, Conrad Hensel of Escalon and Alfred Hensel of Galt; four sisters, Mrs. Esther Bosse of Railroad Flat, Mrs. Ruth Motz of Lockeford, Mrs. Alice Bechthold of Laguna Beach and Mrs. Alvina Fisher of Barstow; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Lodi Funeral Home chapel with Elder Merlin E. Foll of Fairmont Seventh-Day Adventist Church officiating. Interment will be in Cherokee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Friday. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Fairmont church's Memorial Fund.
