Lodi Pioneer Crossed Divide

After a short illness Charles [illegible] Powell, a well-known and prosperous vineyardist of this section, passed away yesterday morning at 1 o'clock. Deceased was a native of Maryland, aged 66 years, 11 months and [illegible] days. For the past 44 years he had resided in this section, having retired a few years ago. The family home was at 123 West Oak street.

He was the husband of Sarah J. and father of Rodney C. and [illegible] D. Powell and Mrs. Jennie [illegible].

The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late residents under the direction of Hale & Bawden. Rev. W. A. Schwimley will officiate at the house and the Knights of Pythias will have charge of the service at Lodi cemetery, where interment will be made.

Powell Funerals Largely Attended

The funeral of Charles D. Powell, who passed away Monday, was held yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the late home at 123 West Oak street. Rev. Schwimley officiated at the house and the Knights of Pythias had charge of the funeral at Lodi cemetery, where interment was made.

It was a large funeral. People came from far and near to pay their last respects to the man who stood high in the community. A male quartet rendered sacred songs, and the floral offerings were many and beautiful.
