From the Lodi Sentinel, 24 Oct 1918:
Influenza claimed another victim Tuesday in the person of Miss Lillian Ellen Soucie, a student nurse at St. Joseph's hospital, who contracted the disease while nursing the earlier cases brought to the institution. She had served nearly three years and was due to obtain her diploma in a very short time. She was devoted to duty and worked faithfully and well, up to the moment when the disease prostrated her. Of a sweet and lovable disposition, she gained the respect and affection of all with whom she came in contact.
By her devotion to duty she earned the confidence and esteem of physicians, nurses and patients and she is mourned sincerely by many professional people as well as hosts of lay friends throughout the city and county. Deceased formerly lived here, and there were many sad hearts in this place as the news of her untimely death was reported.
Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Soucie, formerly resided at the corner of Cherokee lane and Pine street. They now live at San Diego.
