Henry Wittmeier Dead in France

Mr. and Mrs. Simon Wittmeier, who live seven miles east of Lodi on the Jack Tone road, have received the following telegram informing them of the death of their son, Henry, in France.

"Deeply regret to inform you that it is officially reported that private Henry Wittmeier, Infantry, died of [illegible] pneumonia October 9, 1918. -- Harris, Adjutant General."

Young Wittmeier was severely gassed in August and wrote to his family and friends in this vicinity while convalescing in a hospital.

Besides his parents, he leaves the following brothers and sisters: Fred, Sam and Edward, Mrs. John Caple, Martha and Pauline of Lodi; Mrs. J. Baumbach of Fresno; John and Jacob of Montana.
