Fred Fisher
May 8, 1929 - Aug. 8, 2000
Fred Fisher of Boulder died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000. He was 71.
Born May 8, 1929, in Dickenson, N.D., he was the son of Frederick D. Fisher and Jean Frank Fisher. He married Barbara Allen, Oct. 31, 1964, in Folkston, Ga.
Mr. Fisher worked as an X-ray technician. He moved to Boulder from Ogden, Utah, in 1989.
Survivors include his wife of Boulder; two daughters, CasSandra Fisher and Rachel Fisher, both of Boulder; and a brother, John Fisher of Billings, Mont.
A rosary will be said from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. todayat Howe Mortuary, 2121 11th St., Boulder.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 2312 14th St., Boulder.
Interment will be Monday at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver.

Donald L. Arnold
Feb. 23,1936 - Aug. 4, 2000
Donald L. Arnold of Johnstown, formerly of Boulder, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Longmont United Hospital. He was 64.
He was born Feb. 23, 1936, in Farnham, Neb., to Forrest John Arnold and Leah Stevens Arnold. He married Elfriede Roser in 1961. They divorced.
Mr. Arnold was raised in Boulder and moved in the 1960s. He lived in Greeley, Loveland and Johnstown.
He worked for Mountain Bell and AT&T for more than 30 years.
He was a member of the Corvette Club and enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, camping, golfing and skiing.
Survivors include a son, John Arnold of Loveland; two daughters, Andrea Mai Lucero of Long Beach, Calif., and Angela Lydia Wyatt of Portland, Ore.; a brother, Steve Douglas of Herndon, Kan.; three sisters, Joy Hill of Dacono and Geraldine Morris and Carol Craig, both of Boulder; and a grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Ernest Warren; and brothers, Kenneth Wayne Arnold and Vern Eldon Arnold.
Services were held.

Vern Tillman Bickel Jr.
March 5, 1927 - Aug. 8, 2000
Vern Tillman Bickel Jr. of Boulder died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Boulder Community Hospital. He was 73.
He was born March 5, 1927, in St. Louis, Mo., to Vern T. Bickel Sr. and Lucy Schnabel Bickel. He married Lillian Hewell Grace on July 4, 1976, in Denver.
Mr. Bickel received a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Missouri. He was owner and chief executive officer of First Credit Corp., a consumer finance business, and was former owner of American Gym Corp. He also worked in personnel management for Kansas City Life Insurance Co. and owned a chain of health and fitness centers.
He founded and chaired the Colorado Union of Taxpayers, served as a trustee for the Independence Institute and was a benefactor of the National Taxpayers Union, Americans for Tax Reform, the CATO Institute, Hillsdale College in Michigan, Citizens Against Government Waste, the National Tax Limitation Committee, the Ludwig Von Mises Institute for Austrian Economics, the YMCA of Boulder Valley, Hospice of Boulder County and the Salvation Army of Boulder County.
He enjoyed body-building, being a private pilot, mountaineering, sailing, hiking, jogging, reading and philosophical discourse. He belonged to the Methodist Church in Kansas City.
Survivors include his wife of Boulder; three sons, Brent Bickel of Superior, Tyler Bass of Arvada and Guy Grace of Orange County, Calif.; a daughter, Trina O'Keeffe of Evergreen; two brothers, James R. Bickel of Nevada, Mo., and Carl Bickel of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Mary Jane Bickel of Joplin, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren.
A community gathering of family and friends will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 16 at Vinelife Community Church, 7845 Lookout Road, Boulder. It will be followed by a celebration of Mr. Bickel's life at noon, with the Rev. Russ Goodrum of Abundant Life Assembly of God Church of Silverthorn officiating.

John Richard Coss
April 20, 1947 - July 20, 2000
John Richard Coss of Eagle, Alaska, formerly of Boulder, died at his home on July 20, 2000. He was 53.
The son of Ralph Coss and Bertha Cooper Coss, he was born at Boulder Community Hospital on April 20, 1947. He married Clara Gutierrez in 1968. They were divorced in 1984.
He attended Washington Elementary School and Casey Junior High School and graduated from Boulder High School in 1966.
He lived in Boulder County from 1947 to 1966, from 1970 to 1979 and again from 1981 to 1984.
Survivors include his father of Boulder; children Dezine A. Coss of Saratoga, Wyo., John R. Coss of Westminster and Andrea M. Coss-Arellano of Longmont; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Green Mountain Cemetery, 209 20th St. in Boulder. Nancy D'Ippolito of First Presbyterian Church in Boulder will officiate.

Anna Mae Reddington
Sept. 23, 1919 - Aug. 10, 2000
Anna Mae Reddington of Louisville died in Boulder on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000. She was 80.
The daughter of Joseph and Ana Koci, she was born Sept. 23, 1919, in Gebo, Wyo. She married LeRoy Reddington on June 25, 1938. He preceded her in death.
She moved to Louisville from Wyoming as a young child. She graduated from Louisville High School in 1937.
She worked as a bookkeeper for Hesteads, then for Woolco until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of American Business Women's Association. She enjoyed embroidery.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice D. Akers of Boulder, and Gayle A. Maddona of Houston; a son, Gary L. Reddington of Louisville; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Ambrose, and a granddaughter.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Darrell Howe Mortuary Chapel, 1701 W. South Boulder Road, Lafayette. The Rev. Duane Roll will officiate.

Virginia B. Becker
Jan. 11, 1924 - Aug. 9, 2000
Virginia B. Becker of Longmont died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, in Boulder. She was 76.
She was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Wichita, Kan., to Harry Blake and Mary Crandall Blake. She married Floyd K. Becker on Oct. 2, 1945, in Wichita.
She graduated from East High School in Wichita. She attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.
She moved to Longmont from Boulder in 1969.
Survivors include her husband of Longmont; a son, Steven Becker of Pine; two daughters, Karen Lian of Louisville and Mary Lynn Becker-Spector of Sherman Oaks, Calif; and nine grandchildren.
Private graveside services were held.

William Kellett
July 28, 1924 - Aug. 10, 2000
William Kellett of Lafayette died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at his home. He was 76.
He was born July 28, 1924, in Lafayette to William Kellett Sr. and Nettie Channell Kellett. He married Norma Towery in 1950 in Lafayette.
Mr. Kellett worked for the federal government for 34 years, in the Postal Service and at the National Bureau of Standards.
He was a graduate of Lafayette High School and served in the Merchant Marine in World War II. He was a past president and secretary of the Colorado chapter of the U.S. Merchant Marines of World War II.
He was a former member and past chief of the Lafayette Fire Department, and a member of American Legion Post 161 in Arvada and the Lafayette Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife of Lafayette; two sons, Norman Kellett of Broomfield and Ken Kellett of Auburndale, Fla.; a stepson, Dale Portsch of Washington, D.C.; and a stepdaughter, Jeannine Thompson of El Cerrito, Calif.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Nadine Lybarger, Blanche Bertram, Delores Kellett, Dorothy Kellett and Shirley McNulty.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Avalon Funeral Home, 1320 Centaur Village Drive, Lafayette.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Avalon Chapel, 1320 Centaur Village Drive. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area "A," Denver.

Everett 'Jerry' O'Connor
Oct. 3, 1936 - Aug. 10, 2000
Everett "Jerry" O'Connor of Louisville died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, in Denver. He was 63.
He was born Oct. 3, 1936, in rural Boulder to Vernon J. O'Connor and Mary P. Steinbach O'Connor. He married Therese Dravecky in 1960 in Louisville.
Mr. O'Connor was a carpenter. He was superintendent of construction of the Waffle House. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife of Louisville; a son, Joe O'Connor of Louisville; a daughter, Jeanne Frazzell of Broomfield; a brother, Larry O'Connor of Brush; two sisters, Jean Matterson of Louisville and Mary Lou Gibson of Conway, S.C.; and three grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6739 South Boulder Road, Boulder.

Thelma Seitzinger

Thelma Seitzinger of Lafayette died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, while visiting relatives in Texas. She was 83.
She was born in Boulder on May 23, 1917, to Walter Giggey and Cynthia Shearer Giggey. She married Eldon Sloss, and they were divorced; Mike DalSoglio, who died; and Harry Seitzinger, and they were divorced in 1973.
She worked as a dental assistant in Boulder for 35 years.
She was a lifelong resident of Colorado. She moved to Lafayette about 1951.
Survivors include a son, David DalSoglio of Lafayette; a daughter, Carol Adair of Friendswood, Texas; a sister, Grace Spier of Broomfield; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Jacobson, and a daughter, Donna Haven.
Services will be at 7 p.m. today at Friendswood Methodist Church in Friendswood, Texas.
A memorial gathering will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Gate-n-Green Clubhouse, 13405 Main St., Broomfield.

Brent Ewing
Jan. 9, 1951 - July 7, 2000
Brent Ewing of Little Rock, Ark., formerly of Boulder and Brazil, Ind., died Friday, July 7, 2000, in Little Rock. He was 49.
The son of Bill and Helen Ewing, he was born Jan. 9, 1951, in Brazil, Ind.
A 1969 graduate of Brazil High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Indiana State University. He completed postgraduate work at Ohio State University and the University of California at Berkeley. He graduated from the Rolf Institute in Boulder.
Survivors include his mother of Brazil; his father of Florida; a sister, Sharon McCatty of Clarkston, Mich.; a brother, Kent Ewing of Brazil; and his fiancee, Patricia Bryles of Little Rock.
A memorial service will be held and a rosary said in Little Rock. A Mass of Resurrection will be held in Brazil.

Mitzi Lehman
April 21, 1903 - July 8, 2000
Mitzi Lehman of Boulder died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at Boulder Manor Nursing Care Center. She was 97.
The daughter of W. Zielbauer and Louisa Hajek Zielbauer, she was born April 21, 1903, in Vienna, Austria. She married Max Lehman on March 23, 1927, in New York. He preceded her in death.
She lived in Boulder for 17 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Louise Ufer of St. Simons Island, Ga., and Gloria Zann of Golden; a stepson, Arthur Lehman; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Golden West Senior Residence, Aspen Room Penthouse, 1055 Adams Circle, Boulder.

Wilbert Wilson Light
Sept. 11, 1918 - June 5, 2000
Wilbert Wilson Light of Arvada, formerly of Boulder, died June 5, 2000, in Wheat Ridge. He was 81.
The son of Eddie L Light and Ida Mertz Light, he was born Sept. 11, 1918, in Grapevine, Texas. He married Beatrice I. Gindorf on Aug. 17, 1940, in Belleville, Texas. She preceded him in death.
He was a gasketing sales representative for more than 50 years, most recently for Industrial Gasket.
He graduated from Giddings High School and attended Business College in Houston.
Mr. Light served in the Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Widowed Men and Women of America and King of Glory Lutheran Church and a former member of the Boulder Elks Club.
Survivors include three daughters, Nina Swanson of Marshfield, Wis., Valerie Wright of Atlanta and Deanna Light of Arvada; two sisters, Ida Bell Rauch of Carmine, Texas, and Mildred Otto of LaGrange, Texas.
Services were held.

James Raymond Kane
May 19, 1941 - July 7, 2000
James Raymond Kane of Murfreesboro, Tenn., formerly of Boulder, died Friday, July 7, 2000, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. He was 59.
The son of Henry Kane and Dorothy J. Denham Kane, he was born May 19, 1941, in Texas. He married Donna M. McKinnon.
Mr. Kane lived in Boulder from 1941 to 1948. He was a director of judges for the Tennessee Walking Horse Association.
Survivors include his wife of Murfreesboro; father of Beaverton, Ore.; a son, Jim Kane of Idaho; two step-sons, Matthew Treece of Long Beach, Calif., and David Treece of Pasadena, Calif.; two daughters, Kathy Kane of Hawaii and Leslie Kane of Washington; a brother, John R. Kane of Lake Oswego, Ore.; a sister, Wendy McDonnal of Oregon; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held today in Murfreesboro.

Russell Wilson Rice Jr.
June 26, 1925 - July 4, 2000
Russell Wilson Rice Jr. of Frankfort, Ky., formerly of Boulder, died in Lexington, Ky., on Tuesday, July 4, 2000. He was 75.
The son of R. Wilson Rice and Louise Wood Rice, he was born in Frankfort on June 26, 1925. He married Billie Marie Collins in Lexington, Ky., on Jan. 2, 1948.
He graduated from the University of Kentucky. He was a veteran of the Marines and the Air Force, serving in World War II and Korea. He lived in Boulder for 15 years while working as a mechanical engineer for IBM.
Mr. Rice was a member of the Living Waters Church and was an ordained minister with the New Life Christian Fellowship in Sullivan, Mo. He was an ordained minister with the Rocky Mountain Fellowship in Denver, had been president of the Full Gospel Businessmen's Association in Lexington, Elder with the Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Lexington and a pastor at the Agape Fellowship Church in Louisville, Ky.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janet Rice Schreiner of Seattle; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held in Frankfort on Friday. He will be buried at Frankfort Cemetery.

Sidney Moritz Clark
Feb. 4, 1940 - July 9, 2000
Sidney Moritz Clark of Lafayette died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at Terrace Heights Care Center. He was 60.
The son of Glen F. Clark and Marie Moritz Clark, he was born Feb. 4, 1940, in Monte Vista. He married Grace Couch on June 12, 1970, in Durango. She died in 1994.
Mr. Clark served in the Army from 1962 to 1968. He was a sheet metal worker.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Clark of Stuttgart, Germany, and Mark Clark of Lafayette.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Dora Eastman
Aug. 29, 1939 - July 10, 2000
Dora Eastman of Boulder died Monday, July 10, 2000, at her home. She was 60.
The daughter of Abelardo Manriquez and Laura Garcia Manriquez, she was born Aug. 29, 1939, in LaPaz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. She married Gerald S. Eastman on April 11, 1981, in Boulder.
She worked at Boulder Community Hospital from 1980 to 1990 and at the regal Harvest House from 1993 to 1996.
Mrs. Eastman enjoyed quilting and antiques.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Laura Moyer of Boulder; her mother of LaPaz, Mexico; four brothers, Bernardo Manriquez, Enrique Manriquez, Alberto Manriquez and Alonso Manriquez, all of LaPaz; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial services will be at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Flagstaff Amphitheater. A potluck breakfast will follow at Chautauqua Park.

Maria Meng of Boulder died Thursday, July 6, 2000, at her home. She was 64.
The daughter of Peter Giess and Ernestine Geiger Giess, she was born June 11, 1936, in Yugoslavia. She married Hermann Meng on Nov. 4, 1957, in Denver.
Mrs. Meng, who immigrated to the United States from Germany during World War II, was a cake decorator. She moved to Boulder County in 1988.
Survivors include her husband of Boulder; two daughters, Haidee Cave of Sacramento, Calif., and Susan Meng of Edgewater; and two grandchildren.

Kathryn J. Murray

Kathryn J. Murray of Boulder died Sunday, July 9, 2000. She was 96.
Born Aug. 29, 1903, in Kenton, Ohio, she was the daughter of Roy Cessna and Gertrude Fleming Cessna. She married Paul Murray on June 18, 1929, in Longmont. He preceded her in death.
She worked at the Longmont Daily Times-Call in the 1920s and 1930s and at the Colorado Bookstore in the 1970s.
Mrs. Murray lived in Longmont from 1910 to 1944, moved to Sterling, then moved to Boulder in 1951.
She was a member of the hospital auxiliary and active at the First United Methodist Church in Boulder.
Survivors include a son, Max Murray of Boulder; two daughters, Barbara Fentiman of Santa Fe, N.M., and Elaine Fitch of Louisville; a brother, George Cessna of Boulder; a sister, Rachel Walls of Longmont; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Isabel Reed.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 1421 Spruce St., Boulder. Burial will be at Mountain View Memorial Park.

Majiba Ann Reichner
June 16, 1938 - June 30, 2000
Majiba Ann Reichner of Nederland and formerly of Boulder died Friday, June 30, 2000, in Boulder from complications of cancer. She was 62.
She was born June 16, 1938, in the Bronx, New York City, and was orphaned shortly after birth. She was adopted at age 2 by Morris Levy and Mildred Garfunkel Levy of New Rochelle, N.Y., and her name was changed from Edwina Wasserman to Ann Lois Levy.
She married Albert Reichner in 1958. They divorced in 1974. She married Mark Moll on June 13, 1992, in Boulder.
Ms. Reichner was an artist. She started Gallery 9, an art gallery in Los Altos, Calif., and her artwork was shown in various places around the country, including New York City. She helped start the Nederland Artist Co-op.
She graduated from New Rochelle High School in New York. She received a bachelor of fine arts degree from Boston University in 1961.
She participated in West Coast spiritual groups and traveled to India, where she met Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, who gave her the spiritual name Majiba. She was a founder of Rajneesh Puram, an Oregon commune, where she lived from 1981 to 1986, when she moved to Boulder. She moved to Nederland in 1992 but continued to be active in Boulder art groups.
In Nederland she was a volunteer for the visitors' center and was a member of the Planning Commission since 1996.
Survivors include her husband of Nederland; a brother, Leonard Levy of Raymond, Maine; two sons, Steven Reichner and Nathan Reichner, both of San Jose, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Wellington Yau
Aug. 10, 1980 - July 4, 2000
Wellington Yau of Boulder drowned on July 4, 2000. He was 19.
The son of William Yau and Linda Liu Yau, he was born Aug. 10, 1980, in Aurora.
Mr. Yau served in the Marine Reserves since January 1999 and was a sophomore at the University of Colorado.
He enjoyed music.
Survivors include his mother and father of Denver and a brother, Henry Yau of Denver.
Visitation and funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Family Funeral Care, 8600 E. Hampden Ave., Denver. The Rev. Rodolfu Biera will officiate.

Jean Senderling Bryant
June 17, 1906 - Dec. 13, 2000 Jean Senderling Bryant of Boulder died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Boulder Manor Care Center. She was 94.
Born June 17, 1906, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Howard A. Senderling and Mary A. Schramm Senderling. She married Leonard Bryant. He preceded her in death.
From 1944 to 1995, Mrs. Bryant lived in Steelton, Pa., where she owned and operated a small store from her home. She also was a legal secretary for law firms in the Philadelphia and Harrisburg, Pa., areas.
She moved to Boulder in 1995.
Mrs. Bryant was a member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Highspire, Pa., and served in numerous roles including church secretary.
Survivors include a son, Andrew L. Bryant of Lafayette, and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Congregation Church, 1128 Pine St., Boulder. The Revs. David Randall-Bodman and Marty McMane will officiate. Cremation was held at Howe Mortuary and Crematory in Longmont.

Martin Edward Graham Sr.
April 25, 1914 - Dec. 14, 2000
Martin Edward Graham Sr. of Longmont died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Applewood Living Center. He was 86.
He was born April 25, 1914, in Ware, Mo., to Emory Graham and Lucy Ann Husky Graham. He married Mary Sekich in Platteville on Oct. 23, 1937.
Mr. Graham farmed in the Mead area until his retirement in 1976. In 1965, he was recognized as a High-Ten sugar producer. After his retirement, he worked part time for Sekich Equipment Co.
He attended school in Wellington and Lafayette. He moved to Longmont in 1937.

Alexander Gravely of Englewood and formerly of Boulder died of cancer on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, in Denver. He was 56.
He was born July 14, 1944, in Charleston, W.Va., to Alexander Gravely and Virginia Rayburn Gravely.
Mr. Gravely was a home decorator. He received a bachelor of arts degree in interior design from Georgia State University.
He lived in Boulder from 1995 to 1999. He enjoyed biking and was a gourmet chef.
Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Jancosek of Boulder; a brother, Lewis Gravely of Columbus, Ohio; and his partner, Garry Adams of Englewood.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ira Long of Boulder died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000. He was 92.
The son of Frank R. Long and Lillie W. Henderson Long, he was born Dec. 19, 1907, in Louisiana, Mo. He married Minnie O. Patrick on April 6, 1929, in Louisiana.
Mr. Long moved to Boulder from Louisiana in 1926. He worked in construction.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was the oldest member of the Elks Club of Boulder.
Survivors include his wife of Boulder; two sons, Linn L. Long of Longmont and Maurice Long of Lafayette; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mountain View Memorial park. A gathering for family and friends will follow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Howe Mortuary, 2121 11th St., Boulder.

John 'Quinn' Edward Quintana

John "Quinn" Edward Quintana of Aurora, formerly of Erie, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at home. He was 55.
The son of Cruz Adelio and Rose Martinez Quintana Adelio, he was born Aug. 12, 1945, in Longmont.
Mr. Quintana was a 1964 graduate of Erie High School. He served in the Army from 1964 to 1967.
He worked as a chef in restaurants and hospitals in Colorado and Florida.
Mr. Quintana moved to Aurora six years ago after living in Florida. He was a member of St. Scholastica Church in Erie.
Survivors include his mother and his stepfather, Alvie Miller, of Erie; two brothers, Roger Quintana of Aurora and Cruz Quintana of Northglenn; and his sister, Suzanne Tena of Erie.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at Howe Mortuary Chapel, 439 Coffman St., Longmont.

Michelle Rose Compton

Michelle Rose Compton of Fort Collins, formerly of Boulder County, died Aug. 9, 2000, in an automobile accident in Boulder County. She was 42.
The daughter of William Harry Uhler and Ana Maria Olquin Uhler, she was born Sept. 24, 1957, in Rapid City, S.D. A stepfather, Paul Adkins Jr., raised her from a young age. She was married to Kerry Scott Compton for 14 years.They divorced.
She moved to Boulder County from Columbia, Mo., in 1967 and lived here until 1999.
She enlisted in the Army on Dec. 29, 1976, and was on active duty through June 29, 1979. She served in the Army Reserves and, most recently, the National Guard as an administrative specialist, operation sergeant and motor sergeant. She began her National Guard career on Sept. 7, 1986, as a clerk typist, then worked as a product controller. She was a sergeant first class and received numerous service medals and military awards. She most recently was assigned to Company A, Second Battalion, 135th Aviation, Buckley Air Field, Aurora, and also worked in the National Guard Combined Support Maintenance Shop in Longmont.
Survivors include three daughters, Pauliana Jeanne Compton, Jessica Rose Compton and Amanda Lee Compton; her parents; two brothers, Cary Michael Uhler, and Joseph John Wolfe; two stepbrothers, Paul Hoskin Adkins III and Jason Van Adkins; and a sister, Lola Jeanne Okland; and a granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at Howe Mortuary, 2121 11th St., Boulder.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary chapel. The service will be followed by full military honors at Green Mountain Cemetery. Her remains will be cremated.

Theresa Louise 'Tess' Corbett

Theresa Louise "Tess" Corbett of Boulder died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, in Boulder. She was 97.
She was born Dec. 21, 1902, in Rutland, Ill., to Frank and Mary Rinaldo Calvetti. She married Carrol E. "Jim" Corbett in 1927 in Illinois. He died in 1982.
Mrs. Corbett graduated from the University of Illinois in 1925. She taught math in Beardstown, Cerro Gordo and Monticello, Ill.
She moved to Boulder in 1996 from Monticello. She enjoyed bridge and making cookies for her neighbors. She belonged to St. Philomena Catholic Church in Monticello.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Louise Voss of Lafayette; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 24 at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Monticello.

Laura Elizabeth Gillette of Boulder died Aug. 7, 2000, at home. She was 80.
She was born Nov. 23, 1919, in Charlottesville, Va., to Walter Clifton Estes and Laura Lucille Lewis Estes. She married Warren Gillette in 1944 in Annapolis, Md. They divorced in 1976.
Mrs. Gillette graduated from McCaskey High School in Lancaster, Pa., and from nursing school at Gallinger Hospital in Washington, D.C.
She was a commissioned officer in the Navy Nursing Corps from 1942 to 1944, serving at Philadelphia, Annapolis and Key West hospitals.
She moved to Boulder in 1951.
Survivors include three sons, Warren Jr. of Scottsdale, Ariz., Owen of Golden, and Christopher of Herndon, Va.; two sisters, Margaret Francis Kelly of Pittsburgh and Mary Ellen Adams of Highland County, Va.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held at Culpepper National Cemetery in Culpepper, Va. The date and time have not been set.

Paula Mae Hewitt of Boulder died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000. She was 57.
The daughter of Wilbur Merle Mobley and Mildred Irene Haley Mobley, she was born Oct. 29, 1942, in Bloomington, Ind. She married Kenneth Hewitt on Jan. 2, 1962, in Prescott, Ariz. He died in April 1974.
Mrs. Hewitt had recently been employed as a calibration technician for the National Institute of Standards and Technology. She previously worked as a paralegal for Martin and Mehaffy of Boulder and was the former clerk of the city court for the city of Prescott.
She graduated from Prescott High School in Prescott. She earned a bachelor's degree from Yavapai Community College in Prescott.
She moved to Boulder in June 1978.
She was a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church, the Order of Eastern Star and Queen Esther Chapter No. 5 of Boulder. She was the past grand chaplain for the Grand Chapter of the State of Colorado for the Order of Eastern Star and the past grand representative to the State of Nevada for the Grand Chapter of Eastern Star for the State of Colorado.
Survivors include her mother; a son, Glen Edward Hewitt of Lafayette; a daughter, Sherrie Jane Boudreau of Broomfield; two sisters, Phylis Harper and Shirley Johnson, both of Solsberry, Ind; and two grandsons.

Mrs. Ryan was a nurse and a homemaker. She moved to Boulder in 1984 from Youngstown, Ohio.

She was born Feb. 9, 1943, in Matrice, Italy, to Angelo and Maria Guiseppa Sbrocca. The family came to the United States when she was 8 and to Boulder County 30 years ago. She married Paul Klamer in 1970. They later divorced.
She owned and operated La Salsa Restaurant in Boulder.
Survivors include a son, Bodhi Reeves of Longmont; two daughters, Noah Donovan and Maia Klamer, both of Longmont; four brothers, Mike Sbrocca of Birmingham, Mich., Sam Sbrocca of Warren, Mich., Nick Sbrocca of Boulder and Romano Sbrocca of Phoenix; and two sisters, Angelina Sbrocca and Lucy Lourey, both of Boulder; and her former husband of Boulder.

Max T. Serrano of Boulder died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, in Louisville. He was 77.
He was born Dec. 17, 1922, in Kim, Colo., to Jose Maria Serrano and Vigil Guadalupe.
Mr. Serrano worked as a pipelayer for construction companies.
He was a lifelong Boulder resident. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1951 during World War II and the Korean War, leaving the service as a technician fourth-grade. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
He enjoyed playing pool.
Survivors include two sisters, Jane Madrigal of Lafayette and Mary Martinez of Ekert; a brother, Jacob Serrano of Louisville; and a grandson.

Wilbur H. Stampe of Lafayette died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Boulder Community Hospital. He was 89.
The son of Henry Stampe and Minna Clausen Stampe, he was born on July 25, 1911, in Freemont County, Neb. He married Anna Domenico on June 13, 1948, in Louisville.
Mr. Stampe worked 35 years as a maintenance foreman for Public Service Co. of Colorado. He also was a farmer.
He lived in Boulder County for 81 years.
He enjoyed fly-fishing, hunting, baseball and Western novels.
Survivors include his wife of Lafayette; and a sister, Marcella Bowles of Wyoming.
A sister, Margaret Randolph, preceded him in death.

Virginia 'Pat' Wolzien

Virginia "Pat" Wolzien of Boulder died of breast cancer Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, in Louisville. She was 82.
She was born June 12, 1918, in Muskegon, Mich., to Edward Lorenz and Catherine Arenz Lorenz. She married Eldred Carl Wolzien at the beginning of World War II. He died in 1998.
She received a teaching degree from Wisconsin State University and taught high school English in Wisconsin. She moved to Washington, D.C., in 1942 and to Boulder in 1954.
Mrs. Wolzien was an advocate for school libraries, becoming one of Boulder's first elementary school teacher-librarians in the 1960s. She taught at Whittier and Washington elementary schools from 1960 to 1980. She belonged to the Delta Kappa Gamma organization for school librarians.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Wolzien of Boulder and Tom Wolzien of New York; and two grandsons.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 5 at First Congregational Church, 1128 Pine St., Boulder.

He was born Feb. 28, 1920, at New Milton, W.Va., to Lewis Townsend Davis and Dorthea Bee Davis. He married Marilyn Davis on May 27, 1949, in Riverside, Calif.
Mr. Davis worked as a pipe fitter in the gas department of Public Service Co. of Colorado for 30 years before retiring in 1982.
He moved to Boulder County from California in 1950.
He was a member of the Seventh-day Baptist Church in Boulder and Good Sams.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Lewis Eugene Davis of Broomfield; a daughter, Linda Sue Harris of Colorado Springs; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilson B. Davis and Elston Leon Davis.

Margaret 'Peggy' Mooney

Margaret "Peggy" Mooney, formerly of Boulder, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, in Baltimore. She was 73.
She was born March 30, 1927, in Peoria, Ill., to Leslie E. Welsh and Anna Grant Holden Welsh. She married James Thomas Mooney on June 18, 1949, in Bradford, Ill. He died March 3, 1985.
Mrs. Mooney received a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Illinois at Champaign. She taught in Louisville and at Fairview High School in the early 1960s, at Manpower adult education in Denver from 1964 to 1968 and in Adult Education in Baltimore from 1968 to 1973. She was also a supervisor in Baltimore.
She was a pianist and a blue-ribbon baker. She did volunteer work, teaching religion to children with special needs. She belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society of Our Lady of Fatima.
She lived in Boulder County from 1950 to 1964 and from 1998 to 1999.
Survivors include four daughters, Mary Pass of Clearwater Springs, Texas, Sarah Morton of Baltimore, Kathleen Fagan of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Madonna Mooney of Boulder; a son, Thomas V. Mooney of Lakewood; two sisters, Mari Alyce Canonie of South Haven, Mich., and Gloria Voorheese of San Diego; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Mooney; a brother, Holden Welsh; and a sister, Leslie Welsh.

Tracy Kay Cole Dycus of Houston, Texas, formerly of Boulder, died at home Monday, July 17, 2000. She was 44.
Born Sept. 5, 1955, in Boulder, she was the daughter of Arthur B. Cole Sr. and Sadie Louise Johnson Cole. She married William Michael Dycus in Fort Collins on July 17, 1991.
She attended Boulder High School and lived in Boulder until 1996.
Mrs. Dycus loved horseback riding, music, picnics and dancing.
Survivors include her husband of Houston; and two brothers, Walter "Rocky" Stone of Lafayette and Arthur B. Cole Jr. of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Vicky Jo Cole, and a brother, Bryce Thomas Cole.

Marat Karpeisky

Marat Karpeisky of Boulder died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, in Boulder. He was 70.
The son of Yakov L. Karpeisky and Sophia V. Rossinskaya Karpeisky, he was born Sept. 8, 1929, in Kharkov, USSR. He married Elena Arshavsky. They divorced. He married Nelli Sh Kostyanovskaya in Moscow in 1996.
He was an internationally recognized authority on enzyme and Vitamin B6 chemistry.
Mr. Karpeisky immigrated to the United States and to Boulder in 1993.
Survivors include his wife of Boulder; a son, Alexander Karpeisky of Lafayette; a daughter, Julia Karpeisky of McLean, Va.; and a granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his first wife in 1995 and a brother, Yuri Karpeisky, in 1994.

Sadie M. McKee of Boulder died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000. She was 91.
Born Oct. 31, 1908, in Aiken, S.C., she was the daughter of William H. McKee and Lillie Rutledge McKee.
She was a dietitian for the U.S. government for 25 years. She moved to Longmont around 1930, then to Louisville and later Aurora. She moved to Boulder 31 years ago.
She was a longtime member of Southern Hills Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Louise Helart of Boulder; two nephews; and three nephews.

Elmer Carroll Shipley Jr. of Boulder died June 3, 2000, at Terrace Heights Care Center Boulder. He was 49.
Born April 22, 1951, in Washington, D.C, he was the son of Elmer C. Shipley Sr. and Ethel M. Miller Shipley. He married Patricia E. Doory. She died in 1976.
He moved to Boulder in 1980 from Hagerstown, Md.
Mr. Shipley was a self-employed woodworker and owned Shipley's Rockers.
He served in the Navy and was a member of the American Legion of Hagerstown.
Survivors include a daughter, Angel Marie Shipley of Boulder; a stepson, John Parrish of Baltimore; and four stepdaughters, Margaret Kerns, Trisha Tate, Susan Fuse, Debbie Parrish, all of Baltimore.

James Logan Edmunds of Boulder died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, in Boulder. He was 87.
The son of Daniel A. Edmunds and Elma Ashman Edmunds, he was born May 27, 1913, in Waukegan, Ill. He married Elizabeth Hayes on May 25, 1935, in Bloomington, Ill. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Edmunds earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois.
He worked for Sinclair Refining Company and Atlantic Richfield.
He grew up in the Chicago area and moved to Boulder in 1996.
Mr. Edmunds was an Eagle Scout, was on the swim team in high school and college and was treasurer of the Arco/Dino Retirees Club. He enjoyed fishing, electronics and PC computing.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Bierbaum and Beth Biddle, both of Boulder; a sister, Elizabeth Siska of Madison, Wis.; a brother, Merrill Edmunds of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; and a granddaughter.

Ada J. Williams of Boulder died Wednesday, June 21, 2000. She was 89.
Born April 19, 1911, in New Auburn, Minn., she was the daughter of Wells Crosby and Jessie Beebe Crosby. She married Elno R. Davis. He died. She married Vernon D. Williams on Sept. 1, 1984, in Denver. He preceded her in death.
A graduate of Wheat Ridge High School and Barnes Business School, she worked as a secretary for the U.S. Bureau of Mines, retiring in 1973.
She moved to Boulder in 1978 from Lakewood.
Mrs. Williams enjoyed painting and traveling.
Survivors include three daughters, Katherine Spreadborough of Renton, Wash., Myrna Cox of Englewood and Beverly Wells of Sandusky, Ohio; a son, Gary Davis of Lakewood; a brother, Kenneth Crosby of Tucson, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Kathleen Lingenfelter of Boulder died of natural causes in Boulder on Friday, July 21, 2000. She was 78.
The daughter of James Tatum and Addie MacCranor Tatum, she was born July 6, 1922, in Herrin, Ill. She married Paul Lingenfelter on Dec. 26, 1945, in Denver.
She moved to Boulder from Illinois in 1926.
She graduated from Boulder High School in 1940.
Mrs. Lingenfelter was a homemaker.
She enjoyed camping and reading.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Michael Lingenfelter of Louisville; four brothers, Joe Tatum, Norman Tatum, James Tatum and John Ellis Tatum, all of Boulder; a sister, Donnie Tatum, of Boulder; and a grandson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder. A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Crist Mortuary.

Iona Thomas
Oct. 30, 1918 - July 22, 2000
Iona Thomas of Louisville died Saturday, July 22, 2000, of natural causes in Boulder. She was 81.
The daughter of John Bowes and Bertha Ramsey Bowes, she was born in Larimer County on Oct. 30, 1918. She married Charles Thomas in 1935 in Castle Rock.
She moved to Boulder County from Larimer County in 1919.
Mrs. Thomas was the co-owner of the City Grocery and Market in Louisville and a homemaker.
She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, gardening and flowers.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Barbara Stahr of Louisville and Beth Decker of Platteville; two sisters, Sadie Moore of Boulder and Viola Owens of Louisville; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Jeff Decker.
A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Louisville, 200 South Boulder Road.

Sharon Lynne Aylsworth of Lafayette died Thursday, June 22, 2000, in Boulder. She was 66.
The daughter of Walter Vesey Lutz and Esther Alberta Madsen Lutz, she was born March 28, 1934, in The Dalles, Ore. She married Glen Aylsworth in The Dalles in 1955. They divorced.
She was a waitress at the Madras, Ore., Truck Stop for 15 years. She was a cook for Meals on Wheels in Lafayette.
She attended Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Ore. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Louisville. She volunteered in the music department at the Condon Baptist Church in Condon, Ore.
She enjoyed researching her family's genealogy, needlework and sports.
She moved to Boulder County from Madras in 1993.
Survivors include two daughters, Jill Jackson of Lafayette and Joan Kain of Centralia, Wash.; a son, Jeff Aylsworth of Seattle; three sisters, Naoma Cutshall of Midland, Texas, Beverly Larson of Charlottesville, Va., and Carol Curtis of Vancouver, Wash.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Louisville.

The son of Raymond Collins and Edna J. Wilson Collins, he was born Sept. 22, 1932, in Chicago. He married Mary Ann Morrison in June 1955 in Chicago.
Mr. Collins was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He served in the Army.
He enjoyed fishing, boating and hunting.
He moved to Boulder County in 1994.
Survivors include his wife of Broomfield; three sons, Thomas Collins of Westminster, Bill Collins of Boulder and James Collins of Louisville; a sister, Thelma Carson of Broomfield; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Earl Collins.

He was born Dec. 28, 1962, in San Jose, Calif., to Robert Annecone and Elizabeth Killmartin Gaunt.
He moved to Boulder two months ago. Prior to that, he lived in Los Angeles. He enjoyed antiques, music, gardening and poetry.
Survivors include his mother of Boulder; his father of Langley, Wash.; a brother, Stephen Annecone of Boulder; two stepbrothers, Jason and John Annecone of California; and his grandmother, Anna Marie Annecone of San Jose.

Cecile "Pat" R. Compton of Longmont died Tuesday, July 25, 2000. She was 61.
Born Nov. 21, 1938, in Manchester, N.H., she was the daughter of George Bellemare and Yvette Bellemare. She married Robert A. Cepeck in 1956. They divorced. She married Richard E. Compton on Sept. 3, 1970.
She had lived in Japan, Pakistan, Germany, Sacramento, Calif., Merrimack, N.H., and Colorado Springs.
Mrs. Compton moved to Boulder County in 1977.
She worked for several Boulder County companies, including MicroMotion, Storage Technology, and Boulder County Enterprises. She was a foster parent to seven children in the 1980s.
Survivors include her husband of Longmont; her father of Manchester, N.H.; four daughters, Sherri-Ann D. Hagen, Jodi L. Barkley, Michelle R. Lynch and Patricia Guay, all of Longmont; three sons, Robert Cepeck of Greer, S.C., David Cepeck of Milford, N.H., and Richard Compton of Boulder; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Yvette Bellemare Morey, and stepfather, William Morey; brother, Robert G. Belle; and grandson, Kevin Cepeck.

Rosa A. Ebner

Rosa A. Ebner of Boulder died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, in Boulder. She was 78.
The daughter of August Weiss and Rosa Burri, she was born in Zug, Switzerland, on Feb. 14, 1922. She married Walter P. Ebner on June 1, 1949, in Switzerland. He preceded her in death.
She moved to Boulder from Denver in 1960.
Mrs. Ebner was the co-owner, along with her husband, of Crossroads Optical in Boulder. She worked as an optician for 35 years. She previously was a seamstress in Chicago, where she sewed uniforms for the Chicago Cubs. During World War II in Switzerland, she played an accordion to entertain Allied forces.
She enjoyed hiking, gardening and knitting.
Survivors include a son, Heinz Ebner of Erie; two daughters, Christina Ebner of Boulder and Monica Larimore of Jamestown; and seven grandchildren.
A service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crist Mortuary Chapel, 3395 Penrose Place., Boulder.

Albert Theodore Romano

Albert Theodore Romano of Louisville died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, in Louisville. He was 85.
He was born Sept. 9, 1914, to Jolsomine Romano and Annunciata Caranci Romano in Louisville. He married Magdalene J. Fladung on June 13, 1942, in St. Louis Catholic Church, Louisville.
He attended elementary school and high school in Louisville.
Mr. Romano was a coal miner and carpenter for 50 years. He belonged to the United Mine Workers and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Carpenter's Local Union No. 1068 in Denver. He also belonged to Tri-City Elks Club and the Louisville Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and cook.
He is survived by his wife of Louisville; one daughter, Sharon R. Sibayan of Denver; two sons, Theodore L. Romano of Cheyenne and Anthony T. Romano of Denver; two sisters, Louise Elwell of Louisville and Sabina Bailey of Denver; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony Romano and George Romano; and four sisters, Clementine Romano, Albina Romano, Annie DelPizzo and Mary Caranci.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Gertrude Hall of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6739 South Boulder Road.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Dorino DeLazzar will celebrate mass. Services will conclude with burial at Sacred Heart of Mary cemetery.

Daniel Grier 'Dan' Wisotzkey
July 13, 1928 - July 25, 2000
Daniel Grier "Dan" Wisotzkey of Lafayette died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Boulder Community Hospital in Boulder. He was 72.
Born July 13, 1928, in Wrightsville, Pa., he was the son of Dorsey G. Wisotzkey and Janet Frances Smith. He married Dee M. Strevig on May 31, 1951, in Columbia, Pa.
He earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education at Millersville University in Millersville, Pa., and a master's degree in educational administration from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
A Lafayette resident since 1995, he formerly lived in Boulder from 1962 to 1995.
Mr. Wisotzkey was a teacher who began his career in a one-room school house in Sawpit, Colo. teaching seventh- and eighth-grade from 1952-1955. He was the school principal at Wattenburg and then was the elementary school principal in Platteville and in Akron. He later was the supervisor of transportation for the Boulder Valley School District and worked for the Colorado Department of Education as the supervisor of food services, child nutrition and school transportation, retiring in 1991.
He was national chairman of the School Transportation Section for the National Safety Council from 1968-1969, a member of the Colorado Food Service Association, and a former member of the National Education Association, of Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity at UNC, Flatirons Country Club and Boulder Elks Lodge No. 566 of Boulder. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He received the Thomas P. O'Hearn Massachusetts School Food Service Association Legislative Award in 1986.
He was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his wife of Lafayette; two daughters, Theresa M. Hostler of Arlington, Texas, and Lucy K. Mack of Farson, Wyo.; three sons, Daniel G. Wisotzkey of Lafayette, Robert G. Wisotzkey of San Francisco and Richard J. Wisotzkey of Longmont; and five grandchildren.

Peter Dennis Slack

Peter Dennis Slack of Boulder died from a heart attack Saturday, June 24, 2000. He was 51.
The son of Ellis G. Slack and Adele Sovering Slack, he was born Aug. 25, 1948, in Berkeley, Calif. He married Jill Croft on June 13, 1981.
Mr. Slack moved to Boulder in 1966 and attended the University of Colorado, where he earned a bachelor's degree in architecture in 1973.
From 1977 to 1981, he worked as an architect in Telluride. He was an independent architect in Boulder for more than 23 years. In 1993, he was presented with Historic Boulder's award for distinguished accomplishment and historic preservation in a remodel. He recently joined Gillans Inc. architecture and engineering firm in Westminster.
He was an active member of Boulder County's firefighting community for more than 19 years, most recently serving as director of the Regional Training Center. From 1994 to 1996, he was chief of the Pinebrook Hills Volunteer Fire Department. His book "Firewise Construction" was published by the Colorado State Forest Service in 1999.
Survivors include his wife of Boulder; a daughter Jocelyn V. Slack-Reutebuch of Los Angeles; two sons, Andrew W. Slack and Jeremy Slack, both of Boulder; his mother of Boulder; his father of Greer, S.C.; two brothers, Bruce Slack of Louisville and Ellis G. Slack Jr. of San Diego; and two sisters, Jocelyn Wasson of Wilson, Wyo., and Jennifer Escher of Boston.

She moved to Boulder from Longmont in 1950. Mrs. Feldman worked as an elementary school teacher for the Boulder Valley School District. She retired in 1989.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Christian Women's Club.

Ralph L. Hume

Ralph L. Hume of Boulder died of natural causes Tuesday, June 27, 2000. He was 84.
He was born on Jan. 10, 1916, in Indianola, Neb., to Paul Hume and Susan Colling Hume. He married Helen Ladwig on June 8, 1944, in Miami, Fla. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Hume was a sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and a member of the Boulder Elks and Trinity Lutheran Church.
He managed the Hotel Boulderado for 10 years after working as a bellhop there before World War II. He also worked at the MacArthur Beach Hotel in Venice, Fla., for two years. He was the classified ad manager at the Daily Camera for 21 years.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Hume of Boulder; a son, Sandy Hume of Boulder; a brother, Donald Hume of Boulder; and one granddaughter.

Arthur L. Kistner of Boulder died at his home Wednesday, June 21, 2000. He was 66.
He was born Dec. 26, 1933, in Lincoln, Neb., to Carl E. Kistner and Leota I. Davis Kistner. He married Madge Zimmermenn on April 14, 1961, in Urbana, Ill.
From 1955 to 1958, he worked in Army intelligence.
He received a BA, MA and Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Illinois in Champaign.
He worked as an instructor at the University of Illinois; assistant professor at the University of Delaware; assistant professor at Cornell College; and an associate professor at the University of Colorado.
He moved to Boulder in 1968.
He enjoyed playing the piano, fishing, hiking, camping and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of Boulder; and two sons, Karl Kistner of Las Vegas, Nev., and David Kistner of Boulder.

Ruth Ann Hagaman
April 20, 1949 - Sept. 30, 2000
Ruth Ann Hagaman died at her home in Longmont on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, after a long illness. She was 51.
A Boulder native, she was born April 20, 1949, to Bert Seltmann and Edna Allan Seltmann. She was raised in Boulder, moved to Sheridan, Wyo., in 1973 and then moved to Longmont in October 1989. She married Gene Hagaman in 1973. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hagaman was a cashier at several Longmont stores but primarily was a homemaker. She enjoyed the casinos at Black Hawk-Central City, yard sales and shopping. She was an active Seventh-day Adventist.
Survivors include three sons, Brian Shannon of Longmont, Allan Dale Hepler of Grand Junction and Ford Eugene Hagaman of Hannibal, Mo.; two daughters, Diamond Jean Williams of Longmont and Tonya Lorie Hagaman of Erie; four brothers, Eldon Lee Seltmann of San Pablo, Calif., Donald Seltmann of Boulder, Harvey Seltmann and Howard Seltmann, both of Longmont; three sisters, Mary Lou Rainsbarger of Weimar, Calif., Carol Mae Lucero of Dacono and Betty Fern St. Clair of Reno, Nev.; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont. Entombment will be held after the service at the columbarium at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Pastor Gideon Haas of the Seventh Day Adventist Church will officiate.

Millard Harris Ashley
April 16, 1921 - Oct. 1, 2000
Millard Harris Ashley of Longmont died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, in Longmont. He was 79.
The son of Clint Ashley and Ollie Deathridge Ashley, he was born April 16, 1921, in Bakerville, Tenn. He married Victoria Antonian on Feb. 15, 1941, in Detroit.
He served in the Navy in the submarine division from 1943 to 1945.
Mr. Ashley worked as a mechanical engineer and pipefitter for 50 years and helped build nuclear power plants, missile plants and oil refineries in many states. He retired from Alberici Mechanical of St. Louis in 1987.
He moved to Longmont from Elk Grove, Calif., in 1993.
He was a member of the Mason Wolverine Lodge 484 where he attained the rank of 32nd Degree Mason participating as a Shriner and in the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Steamfitters Local 636 of Detroit.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, judo and shooting pool.
Survivors include his wife of Longmont; two daughters, Patricia Thurston of Anderson, Ind., and Diane Ashley of Boulder; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Morace Hayes Ashley and Arthur Ashley; and two sisters, Jewel Derbeque and Georgia Fuller.

Jean Brown of Grand Junction, formerly of Boulder, died Sept. 22, 2000. She was 76.
Born Oct. 10, 1923, in West Palm Beach, Fla., she was the daughter of Patrick Thomas Aquinas Martin and Myrtle Miller Aquinas. She married David Michener in 1942. They divorced. She married Mearlen J. Brown on June 6, 1970, in Boulder.
She attended Antioch College and lived in Boulder County from 1961 to 1976.
Mrs. Brown was a secretary in the Psychology Department at the University of Colorado.
She enjoyed square dancing, music, reading and walking.
Survivors include her husband of Grand Junction; two sons, Thomas Michener of Boulder and Juan Michener of Grand Junction; a daughter, Marian Michener of Seattle; two stepdaughters, Mary Brown of Shanghai, China, and Jenifer Brown of Laramie, Wyo.; two stepsons, Kurt Brown of Shawnee, Okla., and Duncan Brown of Grand Junction; and five grandchildren.

Leonard Chusmir

Leonard Chusmir, the husband of former Daily Camera publisher Janet Chusmir, died Sept. 25, 2000, at his home in Coral Gables, Fla. He was 73.
The son of Herman and Alice Chusmir, he was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Providence, R.I. He married Janet Zoll on June 19, 1949, in Boston. She died in December 1990. He married Maria Elana Torano on July 4, 1992, in Miami. They divorced last year.
Leonard and Janet Chusmir moved to Boulder from Miami in 1982. They moved to Coral Gables in 1987, when Mrs. Chusmir was hired as executive editor of the Miami Herald.
Mr. Chusmir earned a bachelor's degree from Boston University and a master's degree from Barry University in Miami. He had a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from the University of Miami.
He taught at the University of Miami, the University of Colorado at Denver andFlorida International University. He also had careers operating a craft store, running a jewelry manufacturing business, overseeing a home construction firm and, according to an obituary published in the Miami Herald, directing Knight Ridder's suburban division.
He was a philatelist and collected forgeries. He was a member of the International Retired Professionals.
Survivors include a sister, Lillian Weiner of Providence; a son, Steven Chusmir of Sanford, Fla.; a daughter, Marsha Shapiro of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and a grandson.

Gilberta Gara

Gilberta Gara of Torrington, Wyo., and formerly of Boulder and Niwot, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, after a lengthy illness. She was 58.
The daughter of Claude Joseph Potts and Jean Miller Potts, she was born March 29, 1942, in LaGrange, Ky. She married Ervin L. Gara Jr. on Dec. 21, 1963, in Lexington, Ky.
They moved to Boulder from New York in the late 1960s and lived in the Boulder and Niwot area for 27 years. They moved to Torrington in 1995.
She graduated from Oldham County High School in 1961 where she was active in sports and was homecoming queen. She attended the University of Kentucky, where she studied home economics.
She worked for Gara and Sons, marketing products to the King Soopers grocery store chain. She later worked in the oil and gas business, in direct marketing, and then for Pre-Paid Legal Services as an associate director.
She was involved with her sons in 4-H activities and school booster clubs. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, reading, and bird- and wildlife-watching.
She was an active member of the Texas Longhorn Association for many years, which included raising and showing cattle at shows throughout Colorado.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ervin L. Gara III of Torrington and Greg R. Gara of Erie; her mother, Jean M. Decker of Louisville, Ky.; and a brother, C.J. Potts.
She was preceded in death by her father.

Everett Curtis Long

Everett Curtis Long of Rifle, formerly of Boulder, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at the Colorado State Veteran's Nursing Home in Rifle. He was 88.
Born Sept. 8, 1912, in Boulder, he was the son of Jesse D. Long and Cora G. Curtis Long. He married Anne McLaughlin on June 20, 1940. She died in January 1997.
He attended Boulder public schools, including University Training School, Mapleton Elementary, Northside Junior High (now Casey Middle School) and Boulder Prep. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1934 with a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Colorado, where he edited the university newspaper, the Silver & Gold.
Mr. Long served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a primary flight instructor at El Reno, Okla.
He worked most of his life in the family's iris growing business, Long's Gardens, founded in Boulder in 1905, taking over the business after his father's death in 1945. In an effort to ensure a reliable water source for the gardens, he built a dam on Upper Woodland Lake, creating Skyscraper Reservoir, which now is part of the city of Boulder's water supply.
Mr. Long served in several offices with the Farmer's Ditch Co. and the Silver Lake Ditch and Reservoir Co., was a director for the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District and a participant in the National Water Resources Association and the Colorado Water Congress. He was presented the Headgate Award in 1982 from the Four States Irrigation Council.
He was a life member of the American Iris Society and an emeritus iris judge, served on the committee founding the Colorado Garden and Home Show, was a trustee of the Denver Botanic Gardens, was a founding member of the Boulder Lens Club and a member of Town & Gown, Torch Club, Rotary Club, Boulder Flying Club, Boulder Rifle Club, Rocky Mountain Climber's Club and Colorado Mountain Club.
He enjoyed hiking and mountain climbing, serving as a guide in the 1930s on Longs Peak and making 93 ascents of the peak in his lifetime. He also climbed in the San Juan mountains, making several first ascents. He was an avid skier.
Survivors included two daughters, Margaret A. Long of Rifle and Catherine Curtis Long Gates of Boulder.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Curtis Long Blessing, and a brother, Carleton Curtis Long.
Mr. Long was cremated.
A celebration of life will be held on an undetermined date in May at the family iris gardens.

Margaret J. Lord of Olathe, Kan., and formerly of Boulder, died Sept. 24, 2000, at Good Samaritan Center in Olathe. She was 87.
The daughter of the Rev. Alva P. Jones and Mary Ethel Harrison Jones, she was born Nov. 23, 1912, in Evanston, Ill. She married Ted W. Lord in 1936. He died in 1973.
She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Oklahoma City and attended Emporia State Teachers College. She was model for Emery Byrd Thayer in Kansas City, Mo., for several years.
She played the violin and the ukulele. She enjoyed sewing and bridge.
She lived in Boulder from 1957 to 1965.
Survivors include two sisters, Helen Terry of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Marianne Sullivan of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, Jim Jones of Costa Mesa; two sons, Ted Lord Jr. of Colorado Springs and Tim Lord of Clovis, Calif.; three daughters, Barbara Ware of Windsor, Diane Quaintance of Gardner, Kan., and Deborah Treiber of Granby; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Lunblad; two sisters, Vera Teller and Vonda Ray; and two grandsons.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Church of the Eternal Hills in Granby.

Granville Franklin Mason

Granville Franklin Mason of Orem, Utah, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at home. He was 78.
He was born July 28, 1922, in Lafayette, the son of Robert Alexander Mason and Iris Irene Channel Mason. He married Marguerite Montemayor on Sept. 6, 1941, in Denver.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a self-employed acoustical contractor most of his life.
He enjoyed football, any Brigham Young University sports event and fishing. He was a high priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include his wife of Orem; two sons, Granville Franklin Mason Jr. of Provo, Utah, and Stanley Mason of Orem; two daughters, Beverly Carlson of Provo and Iris Monson of East Greenwich, R.I.; 24 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four siblings, Jerry Stewart, Yvonne King, Maxine Dodds and Robert Mason.
Funeral services were held in Orem. Burial will be in Orem City Cemetery with full military rites conducted by VFW District No. 4.

Paul McCoy Berry
Dec. 26, 1907- Feb. 2, 2001
Paul McCoy Berry of Boulder died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Hospice of Boulder County Care Center in Louisville. He was 93.
The son of Killian Creek Berry and Orril Serepta McCoy Berry, he was born Dec. 26, 1907 in Eskridge, Kansas. He married Helen Hannah White in June 1935 in Pasadena, Calif.
Mr. Berry received a master's degree from College of Pacific in 1932, and a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in 1960.
He was a sociology instructor at Colorado State University from 1941 to 1945 and a sociology professor and department chairman at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn., from 1946 to 1974. He was a visiting professor on a Fulbright grant to the University of Cape Coast in Ghana, Africa, from 1971 to 1972.
Mr. Berry and his wife moved to Boulder in June 1974.
He enjoyed woodworking and gardening and was an active member of Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder.
Survivors include his daughter, Donella Berry of Colorado Springs, and his siblings, Jack, Aggie and Ruth.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his son, Clayton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 17 at Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder, 5001 Pennsylvania Ave., Boulder.

Cora Baltierras of Lafayette died Sunday, July 2, 2000, in Denver. She was 70.
The daughter of Jacob Espinoza and Clotilda Espinoza, she was born April 20, 1930, in Erie. She married Manuel Baltierras on Feb. 23, 1945.
Mrs. Baltierras was a homemaker. She enjoyed bingo, sports and making tortillas.
Survivors include her husband of Lafayette; two sons, Manuel C. Baltierras of Louisville and Steve Baltierras of Westminster; five daughters, Margaret R. Vialpando and Tillie M. Archuleta, both of Lafayette, Peggy C. Chavez of Broomfield, Cynthia A. Blea of Thornton and Louise E. Espinosa of Northglenn; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 110 W. Simpson, Lafayette.

Annabelle Bell of Thornton, formerly of Boulder, died Sunday, July 2, 2000. She was 77.
The daughter of Charles W. Mischke and Ethel Borders Mischke, she was born Dec. 18, 1922, in Lewiston, Mont. She married Herbert Bell on May 18, 1941, in Kalispell, Mont. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Bell lived in Boulder from 1948 to 1981. She retired from Neodata in Boulder, where she worked as a data processor.
She enjoyed crafts, sewing and traveling.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharron Kratt of Makilteo, Wash., and Dianna Dunkelberger of Broomfield; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Anthony Louis "Tony" Carpentier of Broomfield died Monday, July 3, 2000. He was 64.
Born Aug. 13, 1935, in Ossining, N.Y., he was the son of Louis Carpentier and Agnes Siano Carpentier. He married Jill Ann Le Boeuf in March 1958. They divorced. He married Sylvia Hymer on Jan. 14, 1988.
Mr. Carpentier graduated from New York University with a degree in electrical engineering. He moved to Boulder in 1969 from New York. In 1975, he moved to Broomfield.
He was a retired hardware engineer from Sony, Storage Tech and IBM. He formerly owned Tony's Place in Louisville.
Mr. Carpentier was a member of the Catholic Church and served in the U.S. Air Force. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf.
Survivors include his wife of Broomfield; former wife of Broomfield; three sons, Louis A. Carpentier of Westminster, Steve Carpentier of Lafayette and Joe Carpentier of Nederland; three stepsons, Dean White of Wheat Ridge, James White of Troy, Texas, and Stephen White of Ignacio; one daughter, Laurie Carpentier-Cassidy of Broomfield; one stepdaughter, Michelle White of Englewood; three sisters, Frances Fallacaro and Anita Farquhar, both of Ossining, and Catherine Corsetti of Croton On Hudson, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and 10 step-grandchildren.

Gaylord Lappin of Longmont died Monday, July 3, 2000, at his home. He was 51.
Born Nov. 25, 1948, in Boulder, he was the son of Virgil Lappin and Dorothy Jackson Lappin. He married Mary Ruggiero. They were divorced. He married Linda Murrell on Jan. 30, 1999.
He grew up in the Boulder area before moving to eastern Colorado. He graduated from Simla High School in 1966.
Mr. Lappin owned Open Water Divers shop in Lafayette and was an open water instructor. He made specialty furniture for a number of years.
He was active in Faith Community Lutheran Church in Longmont. He was volunteer firefighter for the city of Lafayette, and a member of Boulder Water Rescue Team.
He also served as director of Mountain View Fire Protection District, and was a member of the Limon Voluntary Ambulance Service. He served on the Lafayette City Council and was a member of the Sunrise Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife of Longmont; two daughters, Jennifer Lappin of Longmont and Jessica Lappin of Erie; a son, Jeff Lappin of Lafayette; stepson William Humphries of Erie; two sisters, Caroline Brown of Genoa, Colo., and Sharon Dauenhauer of Longmont; a brother, Gary Lappin of Pueblo; and one grandson.

Born Oct. 27, 1922, in Schenectady, N.Y., she was the daughter of Maurice L. Moore and Christine Plunz Moore. She married Herbert W. Saunders on Aug. 9, 1941, in Berlin, N.Y.
Mrs. Saunders moved to Boulder in 1942 from New York. She worked with several University of Colorado professors and with a cleaning service. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of Boulder; two sons, Carl D. Saunders of Lafayette and William F. Saunders of Superior; one daughter, Harriet L. Newham of Lafayette; a sister, Brenda C. Sweet of Concord, N.C.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter O. Moore.

She moved to Shrub Oak, N.Y., in 1957 and to Port Richey, Fla., in 1972. In 1997, she moved to Boulder.
She was a member of the St. Michael's Church in Hudson, Fla., and the Jasmine Lakes Women's Club. She enjoyed sewing and traveling.
Survivors include her husband of Boulder; two sons, Charles Paul Swilpa Jr. of Boulder and Richard Swilpa of Sea Brook, S.C.; a sister, Evelyn Kovacs of Shrub Oak; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lena Silvestri, and a brother, Peter Steverango.

Born Oct. 18, 1925, in Jurbarkas, Lithuania, he was the son of George Gavenia and Elizabeth Orentas Gavenia. He married M. Lilly Vendelis on Dec. 26, 1954, in Chicago.
He moved to Boulder in 1967 from Chicago, then moved to Wisconsin in 1979 and returned to Longmont in 1993.
Mr. Gavenia worked for Ona Drapery as a manager from 1967 to 1979 and was self-employed in the drapery business in Wisconsin.
He belonged to Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Boulder and Dekorra Lutheran Church in Wisconsin. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of Longmont; a daughter, Audra Harders of Longmont; two sisters, Mary Krafft and Ema Gavenia, both of Chicago; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

He was born Sept. 12, 1903, to Josph F. Wentz and Doris Fulriede Wentz. He married Margaret McKay on June 23, 1928, in Chicago. She preceded him in death.
He worked as a civil engineer for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. He moved to Denver in 1936 from Minneapolis and to Boulder in 1990.
He enjoyed the beach, playing golf and football.
Survivors include his sister Helen Williams of Bloomington, Minn.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Henry Clay 'Red' Locklar Jr.

Henry Clay "Red" Locklar Jr. of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Boulder, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001. He was 85.
The son of Henry C. Locklar Sr. and Eula E. Butler Locklar, he was born Jan. 23, 1915, in Camden, Ark. He married Addie Allene Kerr Locklar. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Locklar graduated Phi Beta Kappa of the College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky. He later earned his master's degree in engineering.
He worked at the Bluegrass Army Signal Depot during World War II and later at WLAP radio. Mr. Locklar worked as a research engineer with IBM in Lexington, Ky., and Boulder, and held several patents. He retired from IBM in Boulder in 1980 and lived in the city until 1999.
Mr. Locklar enjoyed flying.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda K. Weeter of Louisville, Ky.; a son, Henry C. Locklar III of Lexington; a sister, Lillie M. Gilleland of Page, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Janet Marilyn McKee of Boulder died from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Louisville. She was 67.
Born Aug. 29, 1933, in Gordon, Neb., she was the daughter of Ross D. Rash and Vera Cooper Rash. She married Richard J. McKee on April 12, 1955, in Gordon.
She earned a bachelor of music education degree from the University of Nebraska.
A resident of Boulder since 1966, Mrs. McKee was an organist at St. Paul's United Methodist Church and a piano teacher.
Mrs. McKee was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and PEO Chapter CZ, was an Eco Cycle block leader and librarian for Boulder County Parks and Recreation, a volunteer naturalist and a volunteer at Mesa School.
Survivors include her husband of Boulder; three sons, James K. McKee of Mountain View, Calif., Brian R. McKee of Tucson, Ariz., and David A. McKee of San Francisco, Calif.; a daughter, Glynis A. McKee of Boulder; a brother, Ross Rash of Udall, Kan.; a sister, Louis Hinton of Gordon; and a granddaughter.

He was born Feb. 23, 1936, in Farnham, Neb., to Forrest John Arnold and Leah Stevens Arnold. He married Elfriede Roser in 1961. They divorced.
Mr. Arnold was raised in Boulder and moved in the 1960s. He lived in Greeley, Loveland and Johnstown.
He worked for Mountain Bell and AT&T for more than 30 years.
He was a member of the Corvette Club and enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, camping, golfing and skiing.
Survivors include a son, Michael John Arnold of Loveland; two daughters, Andrea Mai Lucero of Long Beach, Calif., and Angela Lydia Wyatt of Portland, Ore.; a brother, Steve Douglas of Herndon, Kan.; three sisters, Joy Hill of Dacono and Geraldine Morris and Carol Craig, both of Boulder; and a grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Ernest Warren; and brothers, Kenneth Wayne Arnold and Vern Eldon Arnold.

She graduated from East High School in Wichita. She attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.
She moved to Longmont from Boulder in 1969.

She was born April 7, 1935, in Denver to Harold F. Defler and Margaret H. Williams Defler. She married Lon Parrish in Boulder County in 1950. They were divorced. She married Glen Boisseaux in 1966 in Denver. They were divorced. She married Ben Fahrenholtz in Denver in about 1971. They were divorced.
Ms. Fahrenholtz moved to Boulder County in 1944. She worked in retail sales for Wal-Mart. She was retired.
Survivors include her mother of Lafayette; a sister, Jackie Jordan of Longmont; a brother, Clark Defler of Indiana; two daughters, Kathleen Parrish and Trish Parrish, both of Anchorage, Alaska; a son, Richard Parrish of Lafayette; twin sons, Garin Boisseaux of Lakewood and Kinsman Boisseaux of Littleton; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Monte Parrish.

Zella B. Hoskin of Boulder died in her home Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000. She was 98.
The daughter of Edwin S. Lokie and Mary Alice Havens Lokie, she was born Dec. 5, 1901, in Kankakee, Ill. She married James E. Hoskin in 1927 in Littleton. He died in 1987.
Mrs. Hoskin came to Colorado with her family in 1906. She attended Littleton public schools and earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Colorado State Teachers College at Greeley in 1926. She then taught in Louisville.
She moved to Boulder from Littleton in 1946.
She was a vocalist and pianist and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine Hoskin of Boulder.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on a date to be determined.

She was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Longmont to Charles L. Dameron and Anna G. Price Dameron. She married Carmen Scarpella in 1946. They divorced. She married Pasquale Colabello in 1960. He died in 1994.
She was a homemaker and co-owner of Pasquale's Pizza in Louisville. She enjoyed cooking and animals.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Hagan of Golden; a son, Bradley Colabello of Longmont; two sisters, Naomi Minick of Grass Valley, Calif., and Charlene Bashor of Lafayette; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Ronald Dameron, John Price, Betty Truman, Madonna Yadelis and Violet Leacock.

Richard J. Lang of Boulder died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, at Boulder Community Hospital. He was 78.
The son of Otto J. Lang and Mabel Johnson Lang, he was born Sept. 18, 1921, in South Bend, Ind. He married Dorothy B. Grunert on April 12, 1947, in South Bend.
He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946.
Mr. Lang moved to Boulder from South Bend in 1961. He worked as a design engineer at Rocky Flats, retiring in 1983.

Christopher Northcutt of Longmont died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, from injuries suffered in a car-bicycle accident in Firestone. He was 19.
The son of Terry E. Northcutt and Barbara L. Schnurbusch Northcutt, he was born April 2, 1981, in Denver.
Mr. Northcutt grew up in the rural Longmont area and attended Valley High School in Gilcrest.
He was a member of the Boulder County Cinch Busters 4-H Club, Boulder Horse Show Association, the Pride Club at Valley High School and the Special Olympics Colorado Chapter of Equestrian Division, representing Team Colorado in the 1999 Special Olympics in Raleigh Durham, N.C., where he won two gold medals.
He loved music, horseback riding, bicycling and dancing.
Survivors include his parents of Longmont; and two sisters, Alexis Northcutt and Briana Northcutt, both of Longmont.

Born Dec. 29, 1916, in Richland, Iowa, she was the daughter of Charles R. Wiggins and Freda R. Cowguill Wiggins. She married Richard H. Sifferd on May 18, 1940, in Kansas City, Mo. He died in 1978.
Mrs. Sifferd moved to Boulder County in August.
She attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Mo., Joliet Junior College in Joliet, Ill., and received a bachelor's degree from the College of St. Francis in Joliet in 1969 and a master's in education from Loyola University in Chicago in 1972.
Mrs. Sifferd worked as an assistant to the dean at Joliet (East) High School and as a counselor at Nomence Junior High School.
Mrs. Sifferd enjoyed traveling and was active in Girl Scouts.

She graduated from the Denver School of Nursing in 1939. She worked as a registered nurse and was the director of nursing at the University of Colorado.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elk City.
Survivors include three nieces, Patricia A. Van Hon of Cleveland, Texas, Cynthia J. Trezise of Fairbury, Ill., and Nancy Wright Slain of Kailua, Hawaii; and two nephews, Dr. James C. Wright of Virginia Beach, Va., and William J. Engler of Craig.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Alice M. Hurt, Marjorie Wright Engler and Veda K. Wright Patterson; and two brothers, James C. Wright and Harold L "Joe" Wright.

Sue Colabello of Wheat Ridge died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000. She was 72.
She was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Longmont to Charles L. Dameron and Anna G. Price Dameron. She married Carmen Scarpella in 1946. They divorced. She married Pasquale Colabello in 1960. He died in 1994.
She was a homemaker and co-owner of Pasquale's Pizza in Louisville. She enjoyed cooking and animals.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Hagan of Golden; a son, Bradley Colabello of Longmont; two sisters, Naomi Minick of Grass Valley, Calif., and Charlene Bashor of Lafayette; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Ronald Dameron, John Price, Betty Truman, Madonna Yadelis and Violet Leacock.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Darrell Howe Mortuary, 1701 W. South Boulder Road, Lafayette.

The son of Otto J. Lang and Mabel Johnson Lang, he was born Sept. 18, 1921, in South Bend, Ind. He married Dorothy B. Grunert on April 12, 1947, in South Bend.
He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946.
Mr. Lang moved to Boulder from South Bend in 1961. He worked as a design engineer at Rocky Flats, retiring in 1983.

He moved to Boulder two months ago. Prior to that, he lived in Los Angeles. He enjoyed antiques, music, gardening and poetry.

Cecile "Pat" R. Compton of Longmont died Tuesday, July 25, 2000. She was 61.
Born Nov. 21, 1938, in Manchester, N.H., she was the daughter of George Bellemare and Yvette Bellemare. She married Robert A. Cepeck in 1956. They divorced. She married Richard E. Compton on Sept. 3, 1970.
She had lived in Japan, Pakistan, Germany, Sacramento, Calif., Merrimack, N.H., and Colorado Springs.
Mrs. Compton moved to Boulder County in 1977.
She worked for several Boulder County companies, including MicroMotion, Storage Technology, and Boulder County Enterprises. She was a foster parent to seven children in the 1980s.
Survivors include her husband of Longmont; her father of Manchester, N.H.; four daughters, Sherri-Ann D. Hagen, Jodi L. Barkley, Michelle R. Lynch and Patricia Guay, all of Longmont; three sons, Robert Cepeck of Greer, S.C., David Cepeck of Milford, N.H., and Richard Compton of Boulder; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Yvette Bellemare Morey, and stepfather, William Morey; brother, Robert G. Belle; and grandson, Kevin Cepeck.

Rosa A. Ebner of Boulder died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, in Boulder. She was 78.
The daughter of August Weiss and Rosa Burri, she was born in Zug, Switzerland, on Feb. 14, 1922. She married Walter P. Ebner on June 1, 1949, in Switzerland. He preceded her in death.
She moved to Boulder from Denver in 1960.
Mrs. Ebner was the co-owner, along with her husband, of Crossroads Optical in Boulder. She worked as an optician for 35 years. She previously was a seamstress in Chicago, where she sewed uniforms for the Chicago Cubs. During World War II in Switzerland, she played an accordion to entertain Allied forces.
She enjoyed hiking, gardening and knitting.
Survivors include a son, Heinz Ebner of Erie; two daughters, Christina Ebner of Boulder and Monica Larimore of Jamestown; and seven grandchildren.

Albert Theodore Romano of Louisville died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, in Louisville. He was 85.
He was born Sept. 9, 1914, to Jolsomine Romano and Annunciata Caranci Romano in Louisville. He married Magdalene J. Fladung on June 13, 1942, in St. Louis Catholic Church, Louisville.
He attended elementary school and high school in Louisville.
Mr. Romano was a coal miner and carpenter for 50 years. He belonged to the United Mine Workers and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Carpenter's Local Union No. 1068 in Denver. He also belonged to Tri-City Elks Club and the Louisville Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and cook.
He is survived by his wife of Louisville; one daughter, Sharon R. Sibayan of Denver; two sons, Theodore L. Romano of Cheyenne and Anthony T. Romano of Denver; two sisters, Louise Elwell of Louisville and Sabina Bailey of Denver; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony Romano and George Romano; and four sisters, Clementine Romano, Albina Romano, Annie DelPizzo and Mary Caranci.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Gertrude Hall of Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6739 South Boulder Road.

Daniel Grier "Dan" Wisotzkey of Lafayette died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Boulder Community Hospital in Boulder. He was 72.
Born July 13, 1928, in Wrightsville, Pa., he was the son of Dorsey G. Wisotzkey and Janet Frances Smith. He married Dee M. Strevig on May 31, 1951, in Columbia, Pa.
He earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education at Millersville University in Millersville, Pa., and a master's degree in educational administration from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
A Lafayette resident since 1995, he formerly lived in Boulder from 1962 to 1995.
Mr. Wisotzkey was a teacher who began his career in a one-room school house in Sawpit, Colo. teaching seventh- and eighth-grade from 1952-1955. He was the school principal at Wattenburg and then was the elementary school principal in Platteville and in Akron. He later was the supervisor of transportation for the Boulder Valley School District and worked for the Colorado Department of Education as the supervisor of food services, child nutrition and school transportation, retiring in 1991.
He was national chairman of the School Transportation Section for the National Safety Council from 1968-1969, a member of the Colorado Food Service Association, and a former member of the National Education Association, of Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity at UNC, Flatirons Country Club and Boulder Elks Lodge No. 566 of Boulder. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He received the Thomas P. O'Hearn Massachusetts School Food Service Association Legislative Award in 1986.
He was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his wife of Lafayette; two daughters, Theresa M. Hostler of Arlington, Texas, and Lucy K. Mack of Farson, Wyo.; three sons, Daniel G. Wisotzkey of Lafayette, Robert G. Wisotzkey of San Francisco and Richard J. Wisotzkey of Longmont; and five grandchildren.

The daughter of William Andreasen and Esther Harrison Andreasen, she was born Nov. 28, 1918, in Elburn, Ill. She married George W. Caldwell on Aug. 24, 1940. He died July 6, 1993.
She worked as a secretary for Boulder County Head Start, the University of Colorado and Boulder County government.
Mrs. Caldwell worked with women at the Village Place apartments making and selling crafts to benefit needy Longmont families.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Caldwell of Longmont and Richard Caldwell of Camdenton, Mo.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Carmen M. Collins of Las Vegas, formerly of Boulder County, died of natural causes on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001. She was 77.
Born April 1, 1924, in Trinidad, she was the daughter of Joe Maes and Esther Montoya Maes. She married Raymond Collins on Dec. 15, 1945, in Quartzite, Ariz.
She was an administrator of Universal Paper Goods for 30 years.
Mrs. Collins lived in Boulder County from 1924 to 1943.
Survivors include her husband of Las Vegas; a son, Kenneth Collins of Las Vegas; two sisters, Lee Vera of Golden and Jean Witte of Broomfield; two brothers, Joe Maes of Louisville and Charles Maes of Durango; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Madeline and Stella; and two brothers, Ruben Maes and John Maes.

Kip Mossberg of Louisville, formerly of Nederland, died of natural causes on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2001, at Boulder County Hospice at Balfour Retirement Community. He was 86.
Born Sept. 20, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of Herman Mossberg and Josephine Ihlstrom Mossberg. He married Virginia "Ginny" Booth in 1938 in Roselle, N.J.
Mr. Mossberg drove an ambulance in New Jersey during World War II.
He worked for Simmons Co. for more than 40 years.
Mr. Mossberg moved to Nederland in 1998 and to Louisville in January.
He acted in community theater in New Jersey, was active in the Methodist church in New Jersey and Florida, attended Nederland Presbyterian Church and the Nederland Senior Center, and enjoyed gardening and the mountains.
Survivors include his wife of Louisville, a daughter, Lynne Ihlstrom of Nederland; a son, Wayne Mossberg of Alaska; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a foster son, Allen Eich.

He was born July 1, 1937, in Chicago to Franz Schuller and Karolina Schaffner Schuller. He married Patricia Durrant on Oct. 6, 1962, in Illinois. They divorced.
He moved to Boulder from Danville, Ill., in 1976. He was a manager of plant engineering at Nobel/Sysco Food Services in Denver for 20 years. He enjoyed hunting.

Christopher Paul Zook

Christopher Paul Zook of Boulder County died Thursday, July 27, 2000, of injuries from a car accident on Colo. 93 south of Boulder. He was 44.
He was born Jan. 3, 1956, in Hayward, Calif., to Ronald Zook and Sylvia Price-Williams Zook. He married Nancy Phares O'Donnell on May 26, 1990, in Boulder.
Mr. Zook was principal engineer for the technology group in the magnetic storage division of Cirrus Logic, where he had worked since 1992. He was an inventor, digital logic designer and expert in digital signal processing. He specialized in error-correcting systems and coding for storage devices.
He was the top patent-holder at Cirrus Logic, with 44 patents issued and 17 pending. In addition, he held more than a dozen patents dating back to 1989 from his work at Storage Technology and Exabyte.
He attended the Air Force Academy, the University of Colorado at Denver and the University of Colorado at Boulder. He received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1979 and a master's in electrical engineering in 1989.
He moved to Boulder County in 1980.
Survivors include his wife of Boulder County; a daughter, Kelly Phares-Zook of Boulder County; a stepdaughter, Megan Phares of Fort Collins; his father and mother of Salem, Ore.; and a sister, Lori Zabroski of Salem.

Born May 16, 1913, in Willow City, N.D., he was the son of William Ditzen and Clara Hildebrandt Ditzen. He married Margaret Taylor in 1954 in Boulder.
Mr. Ditzen moved to Boulder in 1952 from Nebraska. He worked for Bauldi Moschette.
He was an avid small game hunter and a member of the Muffin Club and Mount Zion Lutheran Church.

Erma A. Evans of Boulder died at the Boulder County Hospice Center in Louisville on Saturday, July 29, 2000. She was 94.
The daughter of Louis Abbott and Mary Abbott, she was born July 27, 1906, in St. John's, Kan. She married F.S. "Bob" Evans on June 24, 1951, in Stafford, Kan. He died in 1987.
She attended St. John High School and graduated as salutatorian in 1924. She received an advanced teaching certificate from Fort Hays State College.
Mrs. Evans was a school teacher for 23 years, owned a beauty shop and Evans Investment Co.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in St. John.
She moved to Boulder in 1992.
Survivors include her stepson, Gerald L. Evans of Boulder, three step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Louis Allen Abbott.
Services will be held Wednesday in St. John, Kan.

Lillian E. Jones of Lafayette died Sunday, July 30, 2000, in Boulder. She was 75.
The daughter of Henry P. Befus and Anna M. Schlagel Befus, she was born Aug. 21, 1924, in Sheboygan, Wisc. She married Leslie C. Jones in 1948 in Denver. He died in 1992.
She moved to the Boulder area in 1952 from Cheyenne, Wyo.
Mrs. Jones worked at Bank One, formerly First National Bank of Boulder, for 15 years before retiring in 1990. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Lafayette and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include a son, Howard Jones of Estes Park; two brothers, Raymond Befus of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Jacob Befus of Houston; a sister, Emma Honstein of Longmont; and a grandson.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, 200 W. Cleveland, Lafayette.

Francis R. Lockwood

Francis R. Lockwood of Longmont died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at the Applewood Living Center in Longmont. He was 89.
Born Oct. 20, 1910, in Fort Morgan, he was the son of Dr. Frederick W. Lockwood and Anna Riordan Lockwood. He married Phyllis W. Whiteley on Feb. 10, 1934, in Denver. She died May 24, 1981.
He grew up in the Fort Morgan area, graduating from Fort Morgan High School in 1928. He attended the University of Colorado before serving in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Lockwood moved to Boulder in 1935. He retired in 1977 from CU, where he worked as maintenance superintendent.
He was an avid reader, a poet and a gardener.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Grant of Longmont and Karen Meyer of Louisville; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Lockwood and Phil Lockwood, and a sister, Marian Lockwood.
Private family graveside inurnment memorial services will be held at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder at a later date.

Frank J. Schuller Sr. of Boulder died Monday, July 24, 2000. He was 63.
He was born July 1, 1937, in Chicago to Franz Schuller and Karolina Schaffner Schuller. He married Patricia Durrant on Oct. 6, 1962, in Illinois. They divorced.
He moved to Boulder from Danville, Ill., in 1976. He was a manager of plant engineering at Nobel/Sysco Food Services in Denver for 20 years. He enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Schuller of Boulder, John Schuller of Silverthorne and Frank Schuller Jr. of Coronado, Calif.; a daughter, Theresa Schuller of Bailey; three sisters, Eugenia Schuller of LaVerne, Calif., Margaret Christian of Vida, Ore., and Rita Famiglietti of Boulder; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Crist Mortuary Chapel, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. at Crist Mortuary.

Alta Sharon Conway of Broomfield died Jan. 29. She was 56.
Conway was born July 9, 1944, in Lubbock, Texas, to James P. Leslie and Audrey Cleo (Irwin).
Conway was a resident of Broomfield. She served her country in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1964. She enjoyed cross-stitching, reading, horses, writing poetry and researching the Civil War.
Conway worked as a research librarian for Texas Tech University. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Broomfield and a member of American Business Women's Association.
Conway is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Tracy) Brines of Charleston, S.C.; son, Charles (Lori) Conway of Greenville, Ohio; son, James (Dawn) Conway of Akron, Ohio; daughter, Donna (Jason) Kempf of Broomfield; eight grandchildren; and sister, Kay Kempf of Dallas.
Services were Feb. 2 at Redbud Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas, with Reverend Don Ross officiating. Burial followed in the city of Lubbock cemetery.

Born Sept. 26, 1931, in Brussels, Belgium, she was the daughter of Abraham C. VanPuffelen and Irma E. Lindenmeyer VanPuffelen. She married Stan Mullen in 1951. They divorced in 1975. She married Paul Alden on Sept. 13, 1975, in Boulder.
She moved to Boulder in 1971.
Mrs. Alden worked as a pediatric nurse at Boulder Community Hospital. She enjoyed quilting.
Survivors include her husband of Boulder; son, Steve Mullen of Chicago, Ill.; two daughters, Lynn Tidd of Boulder and Rebecca Mullen of Omaha, Neb.; brother, Paul VanPuffelen of Deluth, Minn.; and eight grandchildren.

Born March 2, 1913, in Longmont, she was the daughter of Irwin Lambright and Eliza Ryan Lambright. She married George A. Comstock on July 24, 1936, in Boulder.
She graduated from the University of Colorado.
Mrs. Comstock worked as a teacher before retiring. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi and Daughters of the American Revolution and was an artist.
Survivors include her husband of Allenspark; a son, Jack of Wichita, Kan.; a daughter, Alison Anne Baldwin of Boise, Idaho; two grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Inurnment service will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Mountain View Cemetery in Boulder.

Jerry W. Dickerson of Louisville died Thursday, July 20, 2000. He was 61.
Born July 21, 1938, in Lyons, Kan., he was the son of John J. Dickerson and Marjorie Janssen Dickerson. He married Linda Maudry in 1958. They divorced. He married Sherry Tegman in 1981 in Greeley.
Mr. Dickerson graduated from Emporia State College in Kansas.
He worked as a house inspector for State Farm Insurance and worked for Montford of Colorado. He moved to Louisville in 1978.
Survivors include his wife of Louisville; father of Shawnee, Okla.; two sons, Tim Dickerson and Jason Dickerson both of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Judy Moody of Shawnee, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.

Angela "Angie" Kohl of Longmont died Saturday, July 22, 2000. She was 92.
She was born Sept. 24, 1907, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Natale Piccoli and Concepta Nobili Piccoli. She married Walter E. Percy in 1940. He died in 1985. She married Alfred J. Kohl on Feb. 27, 1987, in Florida.
Mrs. Kohl lived in Longmont most of her life. She worked as a hostess at the Pennsylvania State House.
She enjoyed dancing and was involved with the Longmont Senior Center.
Survivors include her husband of Longmont; stepson, Richard Kohl of Allenspark; stepdaughter, Bonnie Olsen of Greeley; five step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Susanna W. Twomey and Lina Stidworthy.

John E. Ogren

John E. Ogren of Boulder died Monday, July 24, 2000. He was 86.
The son of John E. Ogren and Emma Peterson Ogren, he was born June 8, 1914, in Niwot. He married Marie V. Neundorf on Oct. 18, 1943, in Wallace, Idaho.
He served in the Army during World War II. He was furloughed from the Army to work in the mining industry in Wallace. He worked as a machinist at the University of Colorado for 30 years, retiring in 1979.
Mr. Ogren enjoyed the mountains, hiking, hunting and fishing. He was the oldest confirmed member of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife of Boulder; a daughter, June A. Cromwell of Boulder; son Phillip J. Ogren of Westminster; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Ogren, and a sister, Ella Conda.
Mr. Ogren will lie in state from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Howe Mortuary, 2121 11th St., Boulder.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Green Mountain Cemetery. The Rev. Vera Gubert-Steward will officiate.

Luverne Henry Sindt
May 15, 1915 - July 10, 2000
Luverne Henry Sindt of Boulder died Monday, July 10, 2000, at Manor Care Health Services in Boulder. He was 85.
Born May 15, 1915, in Holstein, Iowa, he was the son of Henry Charles Sindt and Bertha Bremer Sindt. He married Marie G. Nichols on Nov. 1, 1938, in Boulder. She died in 1995.
Mr. Sindt studied accounting through correspondence school.
He moved to Boulder in 1937 from Iowa.
He was a retired senior trust officer at First National Bank, now Wells Fargo, in Boulder, retiring in 1980. He formerly worked for the Alba and Warner Dairies of Boulder County. He also was the former produce manager for the Safeway store in Boulder. After his retirement he did part-time accounting at Thornton's Shoes of Boulder.
He was a longtime volunteer with the Boulder County Republican Party and was a former member of the boards of directors of the First United Methodist Church of Boulder, Frasier Meadows Manor and Unity of Boulder.
He enjoyed genealogy and coin collecting.
Survivors include a sister, a sister Mildred Cosby, of Downey, Calif.; three daughters, Judy Knudson Norton of Corpus Christi, Texas, Kathleen Blackwelder of Lander, Wyo., and Nancy Sindt-Kneisley of Lakewood; a son, Richard Sindt of Vietnam; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kerry Knudson Holden.
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 7 in the parlor at the First Methodist Church of Boulder, 1401 Spruce St. The Revs. Cathy Norman and Ralph Henard will officiate.

Adele Horrell of Greendale, Wis., and formerly of Boulder, died Friday, June 23, 2000. She was 96.
She was born July 22, 1903, in Hartford, Wis. to Gustav Horrell and Augusta Zilch Horrell. She married George Horrell in 1931, Milwaukee Wis. He died in 1970.
She lived in Boulder from 1954 to 1995. She was a registered nurse and worked at Boulder Community Hospital.
In 1995, she moved to Westchester, Ohio, and later moved to Greendale, Wis.
Survivors include three sons, George Horrell of Greendale; Robert Horrell of Pendleton, Calif; David Horrell of Las Alamos, N.M.; one daughter, Kathleen Culver of Terra Haute, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy, and a grandson, Eric.
Memorial services will be held in Milwaukee.

Kenneth E. Kieffer Feb. 9, 1933 - June 22, 2000
Kenneth E. Kieffer of Firestone, and formerly of Boulder and Longmont, died Thursday, June 22, 2000. He was 67.
The son of Otto R. Kieffer and Blanche Wattowa Keiffer, he was born Feb. 9, 1933, in Granite Falls, Minn. He married Gail Erie in Granite Falls on Nov. 11, 1955.
He moved to Boulder from California in 1963 and later moved to Longmont, where he worked as a computer operator for the Federal Aviation Administration until he retired in 1990. In 1989 he moved to Firestone, where he served on the planning commission.
He was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Paul Kieffer of Firestone and Kevin Keiffer of Longmont; three daughters, Patty Woolman of Longmont, Linda Kieffer-Peterson of Kent, Wash., and Terry Kieffer-Coulimore of Berthoud; two sisters, Shirley Ruud of Farmington, Minn., and Fran Lofquist of Spring Valley, Nev.; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a sister, Mary Ann Kieffer.
A memorial service with the Rev. Bill Lee of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church will be at 11 a.m. today at Howe Mortuary Chapel, 439 Coffman St., Longmont.

John A. Mattson of Pinewood Springs died Friday, June 23, 2000, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins. He was 82.
The son of Alvin E. Mattson and Florence Kezar Mattson, he was born Jan. 8, 1918, in Warren, Minn. He married Lois Nelson on Sept. 6, 1941, in Thief River Falls, Minn.
Mr. Mattson worked with his family in the newspaper and printing business in Warren and Thief River Falls, Minn, prior to serving in the Navy from 1942 to 1945. He later worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corp. in Burbank, Calif., for 25 years, retiring in June 1974. He moved to Pinewood Springs in 1979.
He was a member of the Thief River Falls Jaycees, the Optimist Club of Estes Park, the Estes Park Rock Club and the Pinewood Springs Community Church.
Mr. Mattson enjoyed camping and hiking.
Survivors include his wife of Pinewood Springs; two daughters, Linda Rhimes of Seattle, Wash., and Mary Cronkhite of Quartz Hill, Calif.; and six grandchildren
He was preceded in death by a brother, E. Donovan Mattson.

Ruth Marie Perea of Superior died Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Boulder Community Hospital. She was 85.
Born May 12, 1915, in Miera, N.M. She was the daughter of Antonio Gurule and Adela Quintana Gurule. She married Flavio Perea on Dec. 14, 1934, in Clayton, N.M. He died in 1993.
Mrs. Perea was a resident of Superior and Newark, Calif.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Perea was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Boulder and St. Edwards Catholic Church in Newark. She enjoyed painting and sewing.
Survivors include two sons, Samuel Perea of Fremont, Calif., and Larry Perea of Newark; two daughters, Mae Espinosa of El Sobrante, Calif., and Marie Perea Young of Superior; two brothers, Joe Gurule of Reseda, Calif., and Bob Gurule of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sisters, Jennie Tafoya of Albuquerque, Nellie Meserve of Maxwell, N.M., and Vickie MacSherry of Olympia, Wash.; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Visitation and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in California.

Lilly Gavenia of Longmont died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000. She was 70.
The daughter of Benediktas Vendelis and Emma Srugyte Vendelis, she was born May 11, 1930, in Naumiestas, Lithuania. She married George Gavenia in Chicago, Ill., on Dec. 26, 1954. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Gavenia lived in Boulder County off and on since 1969. She worked as a seamstress for Ona Drapery in Boulder.
She enjoyed crafts, flower gardening and traveling.
Survivors include a daughter, Audra Harders of Longmont; a sister, Ona Keishold of Boulder; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Leonard. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Howe Mortuary, 2121 11th St., Boulder.

Daryl Lee Ortscheid of Boulder died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at home. He was 51.
He was born Oct. 27, 1949, in Galena, Ill., to Delos Ortscheid and Pearl Zeal Ortscheid. He married Trudi Drawbaugh in 1966. They were divorced. He married Rosanne Bernstein on Aug. 6, 1996, in Las Vegas.
Mr. Ortscheid was head custodian for the Boulder Valley School District, where he had worked since 1984. He previously worked for International Harvester.
He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose.
He attended public and Catholic schools in Galena, Ill., and Muscatne, Iowa. He moved to Boulder in 1983.
Survivors include his wife of Boulder; his mother of Muscatine, Iowa; a daughter, Dawn Hill of Muscatine; two sisters, Sandy White of Galena, Ill., and Janet Johnson of Roscoe, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
A memorial party,in lieu of a funeral, will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Dark Horse restaurant, 2922 Baseline Road, Boulder.

Edward Richard Johnson of Boulder died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at home. He was 83.
He was born Sept. 3, 1917, in New York, to Ragner Johnson and Frieda Scharfe Johnson. He married Doris G. Turnquist on Sept. 1, 1945, in Long Island, N.Y.
Mr. Johnson retired as a machinist from Thompson Industries of Port Washington, Long Island, N.Y.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War. He played semi-professional football in New York.
He moved to Boulder in 1982 from Franklin Square, Long Island, N.Y. He was a member of Boulder Elks Lodge No. 566 and the Senior Optimist Club of Boulder. He enjoyed singing, dancing and bowling.
Survivors include his wife of Boulder; a son, Rich Johnson of Boulder; two sisters, Eleanor Zierman of Massapequa, N.Y., and Lillian Mahoney of Redmond, Wash.; and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2200 Broadway, Boulder, with the Revs. Vera Guebert-Steward and Mark Tweitmeyer officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Marine Corps MACS-23 Buckley AFB, Denver. Services will conclude at the church.

She was born Aug. 6, 1924, in Herrin, Ill., to Shirley Vincent and Elizabeth Mae Sanders. She married Leo Lowe in 1953 in Illinois. He died in August 1982.
Mrs. Lowe was a housewife who enjoyed reading and playing organ at church.
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Cutlip of Denver; a son, Billy Lowe of Denver; two sisters, Mary Sutton of Cahokia, Ill., and Shirley Capps of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Diane Lopez, who died Nov. 25, 2000.

Mr. Lupton, who moved to the Boulder area in 1984, was a self-employed home-remodeling contractor who enjoyed outdoor sports. He earned a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
He is survived by his parents who live in Farmington, N.M., and by a sister, Karen Beeson, of Longmont.
Memorial serviceswill include visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Avalon Funeral Home, 1320 Centaur Village Dr., Lafayette. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Avalon Chapel.

Donald E. Heil
April 17, 1931 - Nov. 11, 2000
Donald E. Heil of Boulder died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at his home. He was 69.
He was born April 17, 1931, in Sugar City to John Heil and Katrina Markus. He married Virginia Woodruff in 1962 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Boulder.
Mr. Heil, a Boulder resident since 1949, was a rancher who raised cattle and operated a horse stable with his brothers. He was a 1954 graduate of Colorado State University and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife of Boulder; one daughter, Susan Lang of Lusk, Wyo.; two sons, Steven Heil of Lusk and Henry Heil of Longmont; three grandsons; three sisters, Bertha Heil of Boulder, Katherine Herbst of Brush and Elsie Smith of Kremmling; and a brother, Robert "Bud" Heil of Boulder.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Crist Chapel, 3395 Penrose Pl., Boulder. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Tuesday. Crist Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth S. Power
Jan. 27, 1923 - Nov. 10, 2000
Elizabeth S. Power of Boulder County died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at home. She was 77.
She was born Jan. 27, 1923, in Charleston, W.Va., to Dr. Benjamin Swint and Marcelline Smith. She married Arthur J. Power in 1948 in Charleston.
Mrs. Power worked in medical research for Union Carbide Co. in Charleston and was also a homemaker. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame of Maryland.
She was a volunteer at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church of Boulder and enjoyed water color painting and classical music.
Survivors include her husband of Boulder; a daughter, Elisa Power of Pittsburgh; three sons, David Power, Chris Power and Brad Power, all of Boulder; two sisters, Agnes de Sales of Wheeling, W.Va., and Marcelline Beckelheimer of Charleston; and a brother, Benjamin Swint also of Charleston.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Patricia Shane, Bernice Sheets and John Swint.
Visitation and rosary will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Howe Mortuary, 2121 11th St., Boulder.
A funeral will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 2312 14th St., Boulder.

Eugene G. Sparks
Dec. 21, 1933 - Nov. 9, 2000
Eugene G. Sparks of Thornton, formerly of Boulder, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at home. He was 66.
He was born Dec. 21, 1933, in Newton, Iowa, to Hollis Sparks and Opal Hubbard Sparks. He married Donna Lentz in 1957 in Marshalltown, Iowa. They were divorced in 1971. He married Julie Borys on July 29, 1979, in Englewood.
Mr. Sparks served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He was a police officer in Grinnell, Iowa, from 1956 to 1962 and in Boulder from 1962 to 1974. He was self-employed since 1974.
He was a former member of the Boulder Emergency Squad, and he taught martial arts and self-defense for several years. He lived in Boulder from 1962 to 1974.
Survivors include his wife of Thornton; two sons, Geoffrey Sparks of Boulder and Anthony Sparks of Albuquerque, N.M.; two daughters, Donita Heurich of Niwot and Monica McNamara of Westminster; two stepdaughters, Kate Smith of Northglenn and Sonja Smedley of Broomfield; his mother, Opal Hubbard of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother, Jerry Sparks of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Judy Ahrens of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dick Sparks.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Northern Hills Christian Church, 3853 E. 120th Ave., in the Mission Trace Shopping Center in Thornton.

Anthony 'Tony' Caputa
Dec. 12, 1949 - Aug. 11, 2000
Anthony "Tony" Caputa of Loveland, and formerly of Boulder, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at home. He was 50.
The son of Frank Caputa and Dorothy Lee Caputa, he was born Dec. 12, 1949, in St. Louis. He married Michelle Totten on Sept. 9, 1995, in St. Louis.
He graduated second in his class from Missouri Carpenter's Apprenticeship Program. Mr. Caputa moved to Boulder in 1976 and then to Loveland in 1995.
He owned and operated Caputa Construction in Boulder. After moving to Loveland, he worked for Local Union 510.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Boulder.
He enjoyed fishing and Harley Davidson motorcycles.
Survivors include his grandmother, Dorothy Bryan of St. Louis; his parents; his wife; two daughters, Jennifer Sheridan of Loveland and Renee May of Salt Lake City; two brothers, Robert Caputa of St. Louis and Steve Caputa of Robertsville, Mo.; two sisters, Colleen Hacker of St. Charles, Mo., and Mary Caputa of Longmont; and three grandchildren.
A service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont. The Rev. Allen Elder will officiate.
His remains will be cremated.
The family requests people donate blood to area hospitals.

Paula Mae Hewitt
Oct. 29, 1942 - Aug. 11, 2000
Paula Mae Hewitt of Boulder died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000. She was 57.
The daughter of Wilbur Merle Mobley and Mildred Irene Haley Mobley, she was born Oct. 29, 1942, in Bloomington, Ind. She married Kenneth Hewitt on Jan. 2, 1962, in Prescott, Ariz. He died in April 1974.
Mrs. Hewitt had recently been employed as a calibration technician for the National Institute of Standards and Technology. She previously worked as a paralegal for Martin and Mehaffy of Boulder and was the former clerk of the city court for the city of Prescott.
She graduated from Prescott High School in Prescott. She earned a bachelor's degree from Yavapai Community College in Prescott.
She moved to Boulder in June 1978.
She was member the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church, the Order of Eastern Star and Queen Esther Chapter No. 5 of Boulder. She was the past grand chaplain for the Grand Chapter of the State of Colorado for the Order of Eastern Star, and the past grand representative to the State of Nevada for the Grand Chapter of Eastern Star for the State of Colorado.
Survivors include a son, Glen Edward Hewitt of Lafayette; a daughter, Sherrie Jane Boudreau of Broomfield; two sisters, Phylis Harper of Solsberry and Shirley Johnson, both of Solsberry, Ind; and two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4655 Table Mesa Drive, Boulder.
Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. with Bishop Gordon Lewis, Mr. Bob Mercer, Bishop Allen Newell of the church and Joe Fisher of the Masonic Lodge officiating. Services will conclude at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder.

Michael Thomas Hoge

Michael Thomas Hoge of Longmont died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at home. He was 17.
He was born Jan. 16, 1983, in Boulder, to Richard C. Hoge and Cynthia Ann Wood.
He was a senior at Longmont High School and was elected student body president for the coming school year. He was a member of the National Honor Society and participated in sports.
He was also a student ambassador to Chino, Japan, in 1998 as part of Longmont's Sister Cities Program.
He enjoyed cliff jumping, Frisbee, mountain biking and traveling.
Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Colton Hoge and Ben Hoge, both of Longmont; a sister, Rebecca Hoge of Longmont; and grandparents, Rosalie Hoge of Boulder, George and Lillian Hoge of California, and Tom and Mitzi Wood of Longmont.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lifebridge Church, 66th and Gay Street in Longmont. The Rev. Glenn Perica of Central Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Joseph Leon Holt
June 16, 1938 - Aug. 13, 2000
Joseph Leon Holt of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Boulder, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000. He was 62.
He was born June 16, 1938, in Boulder to Joseph and Margaret Holt. He married Carolyn Hamby in 1957. They divorced. He married Laura Cramer on Dec. 26, 1998.
Mr. Holt grew up in Boulder and began working in the family business, Holt Electric Co., when he was 15. He entered the electrical apprenticeship program at 18. He had his own business in Boulder in the early 1960s, then moved to Colorado Springs in 1966. He moved to Kansas City in 1968 and worked for Evans Electric and recently retired from Capitol Electric.
Mr. Holt was a member of IBEW Local Union 68 of Boulder.
When he was young, he participated in drag racing in Boulder. He helped form the Boulder Timing Association and helped build a drag racing strip. He also belonged to the National Hot Rod Association.
He was an avid sportsman and bass fisherman. Mr. Holt belonged to the National Guard from 1956 to 1962. He also was active in the 1970s as a CB radio operator.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Holt and Russell Holt, both of Kansas City; a daughter, Jenelle Holt of Kansas City; a brother, Lyn Holt of Fruita; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at D.W. Newcomer's White Chapel Funeral Home in Gladstone, Mo.

Elizabeth 'Betty' Jane Smith
July 2, 1927 — Aug. 13, 2000
Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Smith of Boulder County died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000. She was 73.
The daughter of Joe Feeney and Marcella Lyons Feeney, she was born July 2, 1927, in Louisville, Ky. She married Loren "Les" Smith on Dec. 16, 1950, in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
She was a registered nurse at Boulder Community Hospital in the 1950s. She volunteered at senior centers, nursing homes and Community Hospital.
She enjoyed the mountains.
She moved to Boulder County in 1951.
Survivors include her husband; two brothers, Jim Feeney of Boulder and Joe Feeney of Florida; a daughter, Karen Smith of Boulder; three sons, Tim Smith, Tony Smith and Chris Smith, all of Boulder; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Kevin Smith and Bryan Smith; and a sister, Katherine McKee.
A memorial service will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the family farm, 3375 75th St. The Rev. Tom Trujillo will officiate.
