She was the beloved daughter of the late Robert J. and Georgina Genre Broussard. She is survived by one sister, Ms. Agnes Poché, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was prede- ceased by 3 brothers: Robert U., Agile E. and Arthur S. Broussard and 6 sisters: Elmire M. Broussard, Estelle B. Hoover, Sister Josephine (Alice) Broussard, Sister Frances Therese Broussard, Sister Louise (Emile) Broussard, and Aline B. Lambert. Sister Marie entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in New Orleans in 1938 and served 47 years as a teacher and principal in Catholic schools from 1940 to 1987. Sister Marie began teaching at St. Joseph Academy in New Roads, La. and served as principal at Sacred Heart School and St. Joseph Parochial in Baton Rouge. She taught at Guardian Angels School in Cincinnati Ohio and St. Frances Cabrini in New Orleans. Upon her retirement from the classroom, Sister Marie served her religious community as bookkeeper from 1987 to 2005 at St. Joseph Convent in New Orleans. She moved to Baton Rouge after Hurricane Katrina and continued her ministry of prayer. Sister Marie retired to Mount St. Mary Convent in Wichita, Kansas earlier this year. Wake Services will be held Monday, August 30th, at 7:00 pm at Mount St. Mary Convent in Wichita with a Mass of Christian Burial in the convent chapel on Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Sisters of St. Joseph Cemetery on the convent grounds. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in Baton Rouge on Wednesday, September 8th, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. in St. Joseph's Academy chapel by Msgr. Willam L. Greene.
