Olive was born January 17, 1905 on the family farm in Jonathan Creek Township,
Moultrie County, IL to William Samuel and Gertie A Purvis Elder. She earned a
teacher certificate from Eastern Illinois State Teachers College, attended
Eureka College and the University of Illinois. She was united in marriage to the
Reverend Duncan D. McColl on October 14, 1930 in the Jonathan Creek Christian
Church where they had met while Reverend McColl was the student minister. They
shared together in Christian ministry in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Texas.
She moved to Wichita following her husband's death in 1968. She is also preceded
in death by her parents, her sister, Alma Elder and her brother and
sister-in-law, William and Frances Elder.
