        MRS. C. S. SMITH IS DEAD
Funeral Will Be Held at Three This Afternoon
   Mrs. Clarence S. Smith, who for seventeen
years has been an invalid, passed away at her
home, 1632 St. Francis avenue, at 3:30 yesterday
afternoon. Seventeen years ago she suffered a
stroke of paralysis and only a few months ago
complications set in that resulted in her 
death.
   Mrs. Smith came to Kansas from New York in
1884 and though she has been confined to her
home most of the time, by her sweet disposition
and winning ways, she made many friends. Being
an invalid for so many years, she required much
attention, but the family and friends always 
found it a pleasure to serve her. She was a 
patient sufferer.
   Mrs. Smith was a daughter of G. Lapham of 
this city and a niece of Elbert G. Lapham,
ex-United States senator from New York. She was
a mother of nine children, five of whom are
living. Of the living there are four sons--
Chester, Robert, Arthur and Gain--and a 
daughter, Miss Rae.
   The funeral will be held from the home of
her sister, Mrs. H. I. Addington, of 1515
North Emporia avenue, at 3 o'cloc this
afternoon. Rev. Harmon of this city and Rev.
McCormick Marsh will officiate. Interment
will be made in Highland cemetery.
