Andover Marriages 1805-1944 Andover, Maine Marriages 1805 to 1863 The following is a listing of the marriages as taken from the Vital Records of the Town of Andover and other sources believed to be reliable. Intentions are so noted when published. Some records list the officiants, and are included here as well. This list of Andover marriages may not be complete because some marriages may not have been recorded, some records may be missing, and some marriages may have taken place in other nearby towns. It is not uncommon for the same name to have been spelled two or more different ways. For example, the name Abbott is spelled both Abbot and Abbott. Also, the spelling may have changed over the years. For example, what was Hutchings then may be Hutchins now. Marriages Before 1805 Some marriages may have taken place before 1805, but Andover did not become incorporated until 1804. We have been unable to locate any marriage records prior to 1805. Marriages Between 1863 and 1892 Many of these records are missing and there is nothing to report at this time. We will keep trying to locate these records, but some were reportedly destroyed by fire many years ago. Marriages from 1892 to 1966 The Maine State Archives has searchable records of Maine marriages from 1892 to 1966. You can search by Bride's Name, Bride's Town, Groom's Name, Groom's Town, or year. Because of the wealth of details, we have entered the names of the bride and groom in bold type so you can find them easily. These marriages were recorded in the Andover Record of Marriages, on pages 1 through 17. The original records were hand-written, and some of them were very difficult to decipher. We have entered a ? where we were not sure of the spelling, and ??? where we didn't even have a clue. The reference appears after the last entry on each page of the original documents. 1892 Frank R. Also, it appears that some births, deaths and marriages in the 19th century were simply not recorded at all. Therefore, we have gone to secondary sources to supplement the gaps in the town's official records. These marriage intentions were reported in History of Rumford, Oxford County, Maine From its First Settlement in 1779 to the Present Time, by William B. Lapham, Augusta: Press of the Maine Farmer, 1890. They were converted to electronic format by Cheryl Kelso, host of Oxford County, ME USGENWEB project. We thank Cheryl for letting us use them on the Andover Web page. Please be advised that these marriage intentions are secondary sources. We suggest that you use them as a guide to locate the primary sources. Abbot, Aaron J., of Andover, and Marcia S. Ripley, February 9, 1849 Abbot, Thomas P., of Andover, and Maria H.
