1820 census for Montville Plantation, Lincoln, ME, lists Samuel and his family consisting of wife and 6 children.

 

1840 census of Liberty lists Samuel bet 60& 70 yrs, living with his wife (Betsey, bet 60 & 70, one male bet 15&20, and one female bet 15 & 20, probably Susan D and Parris..

 

1850 census for Liberty, Waldo, ME taken the 18th day of Sept, lists Samuel as 77, living with his wife Betsy 71, their daughter Betsy Dickinson 32 and her children Clara 5, Susan 2, and Leonard 1 month.

 

Notes for BETSY STUART:

Census of Sep 18, 1850,  Waldo County, ME., p 98, 655/706, shows Betsy Dickinson age 32, living with her father, Samuel Walker, age 77 and Betsy, her mother, aged 71 in Liberty.  There are three Dickinson children.  Clara, age 8, "Delana"(Susan D) aged 2, and "Leonidas(Leonard) W." age 1/12.  There is no other Dickinson in the county.  All these people were born in Maine and lived on a farm worth $900.  Transcripted from notes of H.E. Quigley

Census of 1860 shows Betsy Dickinson age 41, living with her brother, Paris Walker, age 36, and Betsy, her mother, age 88 in Liberty, Waldo County, Maine, along with children Clara A, age 18, Susan D., age 12, and Leonard W., age 10.

 

Cemetery records for Hamilton Cemetery in Liberty would tend to conclude that Betsy was buried there with her husband Samuel and daughter Susan D.  A tombstone bearing the initial B.W. is next to Samuels.  This was also confirmed by Ms. Melanie Ripley of the Liberty Historical Society (8/2/08)

 

Dickinson family bible lists Betsey's dob as 20 Nov 1776.

 

Directions to Hamilton Cemetery:  East on Route #3 and turn right at Sherman's Corner.  Proceed to the foot of St George Lake.   On the curve of the road, take the dirt road off to the right and proceed to the last farm on the right hand side of the road is a stone wall.  Follow this stone wall going west a short distance.  The cemetery is on the edge of the field with a wall around it.

Per Melanie Ripley with the Liberty Historical Society, a Susan Walker, age 20, is buried in Hamilton Cemetery in Liberty with Samuel and Betsy Walker, her parents. (8/2/08)

Notes for PARRIS WALKER:

Per the census of 1900 for West Lincoln, Lancaster, NE, Paris is listed as a lodger, age 76, widowed, and employed as a stone mason.

 

Research by Karen L Seback (klseback@alltel.net) in Jun of 2006 found that Paris is buried in Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln.  Records indicate he was born 2/3/1824 and died 4/6/1904.  She went to the cemetery to view the site and advised that he does not have a headstone.  He is buried in Sec 1-A Sp-26

 

Death Notice in the Lincoln Evening News p. 6 & col. 2. MORTUARY:

Harris Walker, aged eighty years, died Saturday morning at 11:30 at his home, three and a half miles north of the city on North Fourteenth Street.  Heart trouble was the cause of death.  Mr. Walker homesteaded his farm in `1868 and had lived there since that time.  The funeral service was held today.  Interment at Wyuka.

SHEPHERD 30 Oct 1865 in Waldo, ME.  She was born Abt. 1827 in Maine, and died 09 Nov 1912 in Montville, Me.

Per Liberty ME census of 1840, Micah, bet 30&40 yrs, is living with a son (Samuel) bet 5 & 10, His wife (Mary Jane) bet 20 & 30, and two daughters, (Eliza Jane and Mary Ann) bet 5 & 10.

 

Per Augusta ME census of 1850, Micah {Michael} is a laborer, 41 y living with his wife Mary, 39 y, and two children, Samuel, 18 y, and Mary

 

Per Augusta ME census of 1860, Micah 57y, was the keeper of an Alms House.  Living with him were his wife Mary Jane, 49y and their daughter Mary Ann, 11 yrs.  Working there as a seamstress is Harriet C. Richards, 23y, and her husband Asa Townsend, laborer, 24 y.

 

Per Augusta ME census of 1870, Micah, 60 y, is a farmer. Living with him are Clara Walker, 35 y, and her sister Marcia, 24 y.

 

Per Montville ME census of 1880 Micah Walker 73 Farmer, Clara (wife) 50, Marcia Shephard 30 Sister-in-Law, assisting w/house.

MOOERS 03 Nov 1840 in Dresden, Lincoln County, ME, daughter of THOMAS MOOERS and MARY ATKINS.  She was born 24 Sep 1821 in South Gardiner, ME, and died 09 Feb 1845 in Gardiner, Kennebec, ME.  He married (2) SUSAN R. DENSMORE 29 Aug 1847 in Dresden, Lincoln County, ME, daughter of JOHN DENSMORE and LYDIA LILLY.  She was born 09 Oct 1824 in Dresden, Lincoln County, Maine, and died 05 May 1854 in Dresden, Lincoln County, Maine.  He married (3) SARAH ELIZABETH PUSHARD 08 Aug 1858 in Dresden, Lincoln County, ME, daughter of JUDE PUSHARD and SARAH LILLY.  She was born 06 Aug 1836 in Dresden, Lincoln County, Maine, and died 21 Feb 1921 in Dresden, Lincoln County, Maine.

 

Notes for WILLARD W WALKER:

Willard W. Walker is the third son of Samuel A. and Betsy Richards and brother of Betsy Dickinson.

1840 Census of Dresden, ME lists Willard as a "tradesman".  There is living with him another man (20-29 or 30-39) and a boy (15-19) and a female (15-19) (who may have been his wife?)

1848 the South Dresden Post Office was at his place (home)

1850 Census of Dresden, ME lists Willard as a "cooper", living with his wife Susan R. age 25 and two children, Orrin L., age 8, and Mira F., age 2.

1855 and again in 1878-79 Willard was a selectman

1860 Census of Dresden, ME again lists Willard as a resident. His occupation was a cooper.

1861 he represented Dresden in the state legislature

1870 Census of Dresden, ME lists Willard, living with  Elizabeth (suspect this is Sarah E), 34.

1877 he subscribed $87 as a stockholder with Orison Stilphen to build "the lower bridge". (The bridge was built with tax money in 1887) 

1880 Census of Dresden, ME lists Willard, living with Sarah E, 43, and daughter Levina, 34, who is listed as a teacher

Willard is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery. He was 74 years old at time of death.  A notation from a book (not properly referenced) reads "buried near the Methodist Church in So Dresden with a monument.

History of Dresden Maine, Charles Edwin Allen author, Pg 730

"Willard W. Walker was born in Liberty, Maine.  Married 1st, Lovina Moores of Gardiner; 2d, SusanR. Densmore; 3d, Sarah E. Pushard.  He purchased the place where he lived near the lower bridge of Robert A. and James F.E. Patterson.  He was fisherman and farmer".

Notes for SARAH ELIZABETH PUSHARD:

Sarah was the daughter of Jude Pushard and Sarah H. Lilly, both of Dresden. This is the second Sarah E. born to Jude and Sally Pushard.  The first one born Dec 11, 1830 must have died young.  See p. 90 Dresden Town Records 1794-1891. 

Dresden, Me vital records list Sarah as housekeeper and widow of Willard W. Walker  She is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Dresden.

Per 1880 Dresden census, Levina is listed as 34 yrs, working as a teacher.  She is living with her parents.

 

Lovina died at 72.  She is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Dresden.  She never married.  Death certificate lists dob as 12 Jan 1844.

5.  BETSY2 WALKER (SAMUEL1) was born 27 Nov 1819 in Liberty, Waldo County, ME, and died 27 May 1897 in Palermo, Waldo County, ME.  She married (1) LEONARD WHITAKER DICKINSON Nov 1839.  He was born Abt. 1790 in Maine, and died Bet. 1849 - 1850 in Maine.  She married (2) AARON M PHILLIPS 17 Apr 1864 in Liberty, Waldo, ME, son of WILLIAM PHILLIPS and PHOEBE.  He was born 08 Apr 1817 in Thomaston, ME, and died 21 Dec 1904 in Palermo, Waldo County, ME.

Per 1900 census of Andover MA, Leonard is a boarder living at 162 Central Street and is employed as a carriage painter. It states that Leonard was born in New Hampshire.

Per the 1910 Census of Reading, MA, Leonard was born in Vermont.

Per the 1920 Census of Reading, MA, Leonard was born in New Hampshire.

 

1929 Reading Street Directory shows Leonard W. Dickinson, Auto Painter, age 75 living at 40 Mt. Vernon St. Living with him are his son, Eugene E., Auto Painter, age 53 and Eugene's wife, Minnie M. age 57.

Norman L. age 26, Auto Painter and Orrison L. age 23, Mechanic lived or worked in the rear of 40 Mt. Vernon.

  

Pastor at his funeral was Rev. Willard C. Arnold of Old South Methodist Episcopal Church, Reading

1920 Census of Gardiner ME lists a Fred Townes 62y living at 63 Summer St in Gardiner with his wife Rebecca, 52y.  He is from ME and she is from England.  He is a cobbler and she is a stitcher at a shoe factory.

Per his WWI draft registration card, Fred was living in Gardner ME at 63 Lincoln Ave.  He is 38 yrs and is employed at the R. P. Hazzard Shoe Co as an assistant supervisor shoemaker.

 

 

10.  LEONARD WALKER3 DICKINSON (BETSY2 WALKER, SAMUEL1) was born 23 Jul 1850 in Freedom, ME, and died 26 Feb 1938 in 11 Chute St, Reading, MA.  He married ZAIDA E STILPHEN 24 Nov 1874 in Boston, MA2, daughter of ORRISON STILFIN and MARY WALKER.  She was born 24 Feb 1844 in Maine, and died 10 Feb 1929 in Reading, MA.

Dresden ME census of 1860 lists Zaida as 15, living at home.

Dresden ME census of 1870 lists Zaida as 25, living at home.

"E" was added by Zaida because she liked the name "Evelyn" and adopted it.  She was usually referred to as Ida.

Notes for MINNIE MARIE MARTZ:

Helen (Dickinson) Quigley remembers celebrating her mother's birthdays on Feb. 2, Ground Hog Day, but that her mother's official records were destroyed in a fire. Tombstone indicates 1870 as date of birth but if she was 73 then 1872 calculated from the Federal Census of 1880 and Reading Town Reports seems more likely.
