The purpose of this document is to clarify and expand on the genealogy of Bradford Wing, Ansel Wing and Charles L. Wing as presented in “The History and Genealogy of the Town of Morrill, Maine” by Robinson, Morse and White.  The book surmises that Bradford and Ansel may be father and son with Eliza Wing as wife and mother but states that this was never proven based on available evidence at the time.  The book identifies the line of descent of the Charles L. Wing family and notes that four of the children married more than once but the details were not available to the authors.  The ancestry of Charles L. Wing beyond his parents was also not known to the authors.

The information provided herein will show the following:

Bradford Wing was descended from John Wing(e) (Wynge) and Deborah Bachiler thru their son Stephen Wing(e).

Bradford and Eliza were not man and wife.  Bradford was married to Thankful ?Havenor.  They had a number of children.  The last was Eliza who was born about 1840, probably not the Eliza who joined the Christian Baptist Church in 1839 according to the “History and Genealogy of the Town of Morrill, Maine” by Robinson, Morse, and White.  Bradford had an older brother Stephen Wing who married an Eliza Prescott in Wayne, Maine on September 3, 1822.  I do not know if this is the Eliza in the Morrill records.  Not much is known about Stephen and Eliza.

Two of Bradford’s children were Ansel O. Wing and James Hale Wing.  Ansel O. Wing married Nancy Pearson and had a daughter Orissa A. Wing.  James Hale Wing married Rosetta Smart and they had a son Charles L. Wing.  Charles L. and Orissa A. Wing, first cousins, married.

The wives of Charles’s sons Edwin S., Orrin W. and George H. Wing are identified:  Edwin S. married 3 times: Orrin W. married 2 times; George H. married 4 times.  There is some evidence presented for one husband of his daughter Myra E. Wing.

Four children of Charles and Orissa married multiple times according to the “History and Genealogy of the Town of Morrill, Maine” by Robinson, Morse, and White.  The information that I have gathered to date is as follows:

Edwin S. Wing married three times.  The above reference source mentions a son Will Bragdon Wing.  The Maine State Archives list a marriage between Edwin S. Wing and Mary M. Bragdon on August 18, 1893.  Edwin shows up in the 1900 Federal Census as living with his parents, widowed, and no mention of his son.  I have found no record that shows who Will Bragdon came from.

Edwin and Mary divorced and he married Garrie B. Peavey of Waldo.  It was her first marriage.  They were married March 16, 1898 in Waldo, Maine.  She was the daughter of Orrin Peavey and Abigail Curtis.

After Garrie’s death Edwin married, a third time, Emma Montgomery of Rockland, Maine on March 22, 1920 in Rockland, Maine.  It was her second marriage and she was divorced.  She was the daughter of Charles M. Tripp and Mary Sellers.

Orrin W. Wing married twice.  The Maine State Archives list a marriage of an Orrin W. Wing to a Liley Carter on March 6, 1903 in Monroe , Maine.  She was the daughter of Alonzo Carter and Lizzie M. Harding.  According to a LDS website Liley Carter who married Orrin W. Wing lived to 1977.  They subsequently divorced.

The History and Genealogy of the Town of Morrill, Maine” by Robinson, Morse, and White indicates that his second wife Luella survived him.  The Maine State Archives list the marriage of Orrin W. Wing to Mrs. Luella M. Wing on May 14, 1934 in Rockport, Maine.  This would be the third marriage for Luella Maker.  She first married Fred Cousins (Cousens), then George H. Wing (Orrin’s brother George) and then Orrin W. Wing.  She was the daughter of Alonzo Maker and Caskielena Rivers.

George H. Wing married four times.  History and Genealogy of the Town of Morrill, Maine” by Robinson, Morse, and White indicates one wife was Minnie (later records will indicate that this was his second marriage).  The Maine State Archives list 4 marriages for George H. Wing.

George’s first marriage was to Mary Gaspar (or Gasper).  They married in Belfast, Maine on May 11, 1903.  This is listed as the second marriage for her and that she was divorced.  She is listed as the daughter of Elbridge Thomas and Edna Robbins of Belfast.  I do not believe that this is her second marriage.  I believe that it is her fourth marriage.  She first married an Unknown Robbins prior to 1892.  She married second Fred Gordon.  They had 2 children, Elberti and Hazel.  Fred died on Feb 1, 1898 in Gloucester during a gale while serving on the schooner James Holmes.  She was married to Fred under the name May Robbins.  She married Allie Gasper next, her third husband under the name Mary Gordon.  She married George H. Wing her fourth under the name Mary Gaspar.  She later married, her fifth, Arthur L. Wing of Morrill, Maine.  In the “History and Genealogy of the Town of Morrill, Maine” by Robinson, Morse and White she is listed as Mrs. Persis Mae (Thomas ) (Gordon) Wing who had been married twice before.

George’s second marriage was to Minnie Harvey of Swansville, Maine.  They were married in Belfast, Maine on August 18, 1910.  George was divorced and Minnie was single.  They had a son Charles L. Wing, born July 1, 1911, died June 25, 1982.  He was married to Margaret MacLeod.  The marriage may have taken place in Massachusetts as he had a Social Security number issued there.

George’s third marriage was to Lillian M. Davis following the death of Minnie.  It was the third marriage for both.  They were married May 11, 1915 in Rockland, Maine.  She was much older than him.  She is listed as 47 and he as 40 on the marriage certificate but he was closer to 36.

George’s fourth marriage was to Mrs. Luella May Maker Cousins.  The marriage records are quite misleading.  It claims his father as Charles Wing and his mother as Annie Perron and that it was the 2nd marriage for both.  Both were widows.  George's death certificate claims his wife as Luella Wing and his parents as Charles L. and Orissa Wing.

George and Luella had a daughter Ruth Arlene Wing who later married, had 5 children, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.  This family lived in the Tewksbury, MA area.

Myra E. Wing married twice.  The identity of both husbands is unknown to me.  The 1907 Belfast City Directory claims that she married a Mr. Jeness of Concord, NH.

Attached to the end of this paper is the descendant report for Bradford Wing which hopefully shows all the above marriages.  If anyone has a comments or corrections to the data presented herein their inputs will be greatly appreciated.

1910 Federal Census for Monroe Maine Edwin is back home with parents and siblings and listed as widowed and no mention of son. The "History and Genealogy of the Town of Morrill, Maine" by Robinson, Morse, and White state that Will Bragdon Wing was living in Searsport in 1952.  By 1910 Edwin was divorced from his first wife and his second wife had died.

He married a second time Luella Maker Cousins Wing, of Warren, on May 14, 1934.  It was his second marriage and her third. He was divorced and she was widowed.  Her second husband was a George H. Wing but not Orrin's brother.  He was 57 and she was 51 at the time.  He was a laborer.

According to the "History and Genealogy of the Town of Morrill, Maine" by Robinson, Morse, and White George married three times.  One wife Minnie was born in 1895 and died in 1914

George first married Mary Thomas Gaspar. It was his first marriage and her second.  She divorced her first husband.  He was 24 and she was 28 at time of marriage. He was listed as being a sailor. This I believe is Persis May Thomas.  She used the name Mary and didn't claim her second marriage to Allie Gaspar, only her first to Fred I. Gordon. She later married Arthur L. Gordon of Morrill.  The 1907 Belfast Directory claims that he married Persis M. (Thomas-Gordon).

George H. Wing married, his second, Minnie Harvey of Swansville on August 18, 1910.   He was 32 and she was 15 at the time.  He was a cooper.  She died in 1914.   It was her first marriage and his second.  He was divorced.

George H. Wing married, his third, Lillian M. Davis on May 11, 1915 in Rockland, Maine.  He was a fisherman. It was the third marriage for both.  He was widowed and she was divorced.  He was 40, according to the marriage certificate - not right,  and she was 47 at the time.

George H. Wing married a fourth time to Mrs. Luella M. (Maker) Cousins.  The marriage records are quite misleading.  They claim his father as Charles Wing and his mother as Annie Perron and that it was the 2nd marriage for both.  Both were widows.  George's death certificate claims his wife as Luella Wing and his parents as Charles L. and Orissa Wing
