Mrs. Mary Virginia Elsberry


Mrs. Mary Virginia Elsberry died at the home of Gid Sheridan, near Monroe City, Saturday and 
the body was brought to Thompson Funeral Home at Madison with funeral services held there 
Sunday at 2 p.m. by Rev. M.O. Paul and burial was made in the Madison Cemetery.

Mrs. Elsberry was 87 years of age and is survived by four sons. Ed, who lives south of Madison, 
John of Orrick, Tom of Clarence, and Arthur of Moberly and the daughter in whose home she 
died; sixteen grandchildren and several great grand-children.

Submitter's Note: Mary Virginia Elsberry was born on November 4, 1850 in Monroe County, 
Missouri.  She was the daughter of Oscar Burton and Lucinda Garnett.  She died on April 3, 
1937.  She was first married to William Elsberry on August 2, 1868 in Monroe County.  After 
William?s death in 1872 she married William?s half brother Joseph N. Elsberry on July 28, 1873 in 
Monroe County.
