C. J. Hardwick Died, in this city, on Wednesday, May 10, 1885, aged 65 years, 3 months, 27 days. Mr. Hardwick was born in Kentucky, and with his family moved to Kansas in 1867, coming to Galena in the spring of 1880. He was the father of nine children, six of whom (four boys and two girls) are yet living. For fourteen years he has been a widower, and the care of the children, thus deprived of a mother, rested wholly upon him. No father could have done more to discharge this duty faithfully. Being a firm opposer of all that tinged of wrong-doing, his counsel and influence was always in favor of the good and his endeavors to keep his children in the right path were such as to commend him to all who realize what home without a mother means. His remains were followed to their last resting place, in Spring River Falls cemetery, on Thursday last, by a large number of friends, who with us extend to the children their heartfelt sympathy in their hour of grief.
