James Thomas Stephens J.T. Stephens of Madison Dies; Funeral Today Madison, July 29 - James Thomas Stephens died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Claude Lepper, Saturday afternoon about 11 o'clock after an illness of peritonitis. Mr. Stephens was ill only a few days. He was born near Ash Mo., December 1, 1860, the son of William and Frances Dailey Stephens, and with the exception of several years spent in Centralia, he lived his entire life in this vicinity. He was married to Miss Jennie Briscoe, who survives him. He is also survived by the daughter, Mrs. Lepper, and two sons - Briscoe Stephens of Oakwood, Mo., and Minor Stephens of California Junction, Iowa; by 5 grandsons and 2 granddaughters, and one brother, Bud Stephens of Mexico. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon by Rev. O. P. McKenzie in the Holliday Christian Church. Burial was in the Holliday cemetery. Source: Undated article from unknown newspaper.
