Laura Bell Manuel "Laura Bell Manuel, daughter of Thos. A. Manuel and J.A. Manuel is no more! Born April 11, 1872, died Aug. 15th, 1873. Sixteen short months this little bud of promise, so full of life and so beautiful in its innocence, gladdened the hearts of fond parents--then Azrael, the Angel of Death called her home. An only daughter, the light of their eye, the pet of their love, the second great sorrow within a few months that has darkened their household and their hearts. Although the merry prattle is hushed, and the tiny footfall is heard no more, yet there is comfort. She is a lamb of the upper fold. She has passed the jasper walls, entered the pearly gates, and rests in the Eternal City of souls. "God gave, He took. He took, He will restore-he doeth all things well." "So fades the lovely blooming flowers, Frail smiling solace of an hour So soon our transient comforts fly And pleasures only bloom to die. Farewell! We meet no more. On this side heaven; The parting scene is o'er The last sad look is given." Source: Source: Paris Mercury, Tuesday, Oct 28, 1873 transcription by Debra Branigan. Moses C. Overfelt "God in his all-wise providence, removed from our midst, On August 21, 1873, Moses C. Overfelt, youngest son of David and Eveline G. Overfelt, age 19 years, 3 months, 13 days, Yes, Moses has been called from the home and association of doting parents, a loving sister, and brothers, and gone to try the realities unknown to us, yet his oft-spoken, "I trust in Jesus", should cheer their sorrowful hearts, they are remembering that "blessed are the dead who die in the Lord". His sufferings here were great, but borne without a murmur. "To die and be at rest" was his only desire. He was much loved and esteemed by all who knew him, and Truth, as a bright ornament, ever adorned his character." "You fond parents forbear to complain That he has now gone from your sight! You soon shall behold him again With new and redoubled delight." Source: Paris Mercury, Tuesday, Oct 28, 1873 transcription by Debra Branigan.
