George Yates GEORGE YATES DIES NEAR INDIAN CREEK Funeral Services to be Held Thursday Monroe City, Oct 1 - George Loren Yates, 55 years and one month old, died at his home near Indian Creek, southwest of this city at 6:45 o'clock this morning. He had been in ill health for some time and for several weeks was a patient in St. Elizabeth's hospital, Hannibal, later being taken to St. Mary's hospital, St. Louis, where he remained until 10 days ago when he returned home. A son of John A. Yates of this city and the late Maud Combs Yates, Mr. Yates was born in Monroe county, August 31, 1880, and his entire life was spent in this community, where he was well and favorably known. For several years he was engaged in the general merchandise business here first with the Williamson firm and later with Shearman. After leaving the store he removed to a farm where he spent the remainder of his life. He was a consistent member of the Catholic church. On October 17, 1906, Mr. Yates was married to Miss Olive Nuckman, who survives, with the following children: Glenn of Shelbina; Genevieve, Martin, Lorene, Wilfred, Emma Maud and Rosemary all al home; one son, Melvin, preceded his father in death. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. R.S. Asbury of Memphis, Tenn, Mrs. J.A. Montgomery and Mrs. B.E. Crandall of Monroe City; two brothers, Claud and Roy Yates of this community. The remains were removed to Wilson's funeral home and prepared for burial and will be taken to the family home late this evening. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning from St. Stephens church at Indian Creek conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Father Kiernan. Interment will be in St. Stephens cemetery.
