He was president of the company, after the death of his father in 1951, until 1980 when his son Donald became president. Mr. Amyx served as the mayor of Gainesville for two years and as president of the Industrial Develop-ment Corporation. He was a charter member of the Gainesville Lions Club. In 1988, he was named Gainesville’s Citizen of the Year.
